  1. If he'd stopped after the first sentance, it would have been pretty clever. Got more labored as it went on. Definitely written by a fan of the Onion, just not as well as the Onion. A bit ironic when criticizing someone for mediocre talent.
  2. That could ruin the integrity of this internet poll!
  3. Bob Devaney came to Nebraska from Michigan and Wyoming and changed the culture, and Pelini doesn't really have any Nebraska roots, so you obviously don't need to be from here to be "one of us." But Devaney started a culture of winning and that's the one you can't break. Had Callahan kept winning we probably wouldn't have questioned his methods. But tossing humiliation on top of losing and he became something we couldn't and shouldn't relate to. Callahan had a thin-skin and was too easily threatened. He drove an NFC Champion into the ground in one season and you always sensed he thought he was slumming at Nebraska. Winning would have prolonged the experiment, but the dude was kind of a dick.
  4. It's always amusing when enough people disagree with a poster that his only possible explanation is that they're a herd of gullible sheep. It is what it is, Milli Vanilli. Let's put it to bed.
  5. Not everyone is you. It's not a matter of gullibility either, chief. Doesn't matter who manufactured it or why, over the past 20 years NU vs. CU has produced some nailbiter games, some painful blowouts and some games of national signifigance. Nobody in the Big 12 North comes close in terms of memorable games. Of course you could go back 40 years to make your case. But that would be kinda stupid.
  6. Well it is absolutely what you said just a few posts earlier. I did note the furious backpedling. And yes, they have nothing more to win by beating Colorado than they did beating Baylor. Still counts as one conference win. Same as beating Oklahoma. But doesn't it feel a bit better beating Colorado than Baylor? Cause I think that's all this is really about. And we haven't even beat them yet. And had a guy missed a 57 yard field goal last year in a game that would have almost salvaged Colorado's miserable season, the off-season discussions on this board would have been very different. I'm guessing ABC-TV would also prefer that the Huskers treat this game as something.
  7. The pocket protection is slightly better than plays that require the line to string it out. I'd like to declare the option experiment with Zac Lee officially over. The play just doesn't work. At least Lee has been smart enough to go down with the ball and not pitch it back to an already engulfed Helu. Or how about the old pitch out? A pivot and pitch out to Helu, who will immediately have a better angle at turning the corner? And with this post I'm officially off the Travel Squad and deserving greater respect. Thanks for not pointing out that my previous post had the Huskers at 9 - 3 when we are, of course, 8 - 3. For the moment.
  8. Underthrow the long ball instead of overthrow the long ball? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Throw the ball as accurately as possible. That's all you ever do. Anything other than trying to hit your receiver in stride increases the possibility of interception. Besides, an underthrown long ball stands a better chance of getting picked off than an overthrown long ball. Nebraska had some guys who could pass, but even Dave Humm, who held the single season record for years got surpassed by Joe Dailey.
  9. Yes, Knapple, it's a created rivalry, and yes, if they slapped Iowas State as the last game of every season it would take on more meaning than deserved. But it's still a rivalry. Not a legendary rivalry. Not the best rivalry. Clearly not your favorite rivalry. But a rivalry. My definition of a rivalry is when the records get tossed out the window. No matter if each team's season has gone in different directions, it's never considered an easy game. And crazy sh#t can happen. Colorado certainly fits that bill over the last 20 years. Not sure I can argue the point with someone who thinks this game means nothing. Guess I'm old fashioned but I like winning and think 9 - 3 sounds better than 8 - 4. p.s. Coaches use rivalries for motivation. And if one coach doesn't think it's a "rivalry", the other coach will most certainly exploit that.
  10. What he had last season was the 12th most productive offense in Division 1. What he has this season is an untested quarterback who hasn't been as good as we hoped, and a backup QB who isn't ready to take over. Plus a lingering injury to his featured running back and injuries and dismissals to two other promising running backs. Everyone was screaming for him to make adjustments. He has. I think everyone is on the same page, now. This just isn't a very good offense. And we're 9 - 3.
  11. Ah. I assumed Colt McCoy. In that case, yes. McShay iis determined not to agree with Kiper.
  12. Well if you're talking about decision-making that involves any kind of predictibiility or common sense, the Raiders don't count.
  13. There's a video on YouTube about Husker Tradition. Gives you goosebumps. Couple minutes into it, Lee Corso and Chris Fowler go on record as saying the Nebraska fans have more knowledge and integrity than any fanbase in college football. I don't know how you could show any more favoritism than that. Except, possibly, when ESPN staff voted for the greatest teams in college football history and put two Nebraska teams in their Top 3. In case you didn't notice the Huskers haven't been so great the past few years. ESPN has certainly been obliged to report that. Even then, they appear to be rooting for the Huskers to get back to relevence. Still have yet to hear an ESPN analyst give the Huskers anywhere near the ripping we so willfully give our own team right here on HuskerBoard.com.
  14. You know, Kansas State isn't even rated, but given where the Huskers stand this season, what's at stake and what has yet to be proved, this could be a signature game for Bo Pelini. Style points definitely count.
  15. Uhm....being #2 out of every college player in the United States isn't exactly a slap in the face. In draft terms, the player who will be taking every offensive snap tends to have the edge, especially if he's anywhere near as good as advertised. It's definitely a safer pick for management. Though in hindsight the teams that fall in love with a purty quarterback often wish they'd shored up either side of their line instead. McCoy feels like a Matt Leinart to me. But Suh is generating crazy amounts of heat. More than I've seen a defensive player get in years. So the "disrespect" card doesn't really play.
  16. Have you ever gotten the Milli Vanilli-hating thing? It's similar to that. Uhm, I hate licorice, too. Is it like that? Or like hating Fox News? Cause I get that. As for ESPN not giving the Huskers enough love? Pure paranoia.
  17. It would be interesting to know every poster's real age. I think it would explain some things.
  18. I've never ever gotten the ESPN-hating thing.
  19. Actually they invented the internet down there, but they only get about 35,000 people for their home games.
  20. I remember feeling pretty satisfied at the end of last season, but thinking that the drop off in offensive skill players suggested the '09 team shouldn't be expected to do better and could easily do worse. That being said, I started drinking the Kool-Aid with a healthy Helu and a Zac Lee who appeared already up to speed in his early starts and would only get better. But those Tech and Iowa State losses (and the Baylor and Oklahoma wins) were the offensive equivalent of those horrific defensive meltdowns in '07. For that reason alone this season is a dissapointment. But if they close out the North, don't lose too badly to Texas, and go out on a high with a decent bowl game I will feel at least as good as last year. This team can't possibly feel cocky about Kansas State and Colorado. The level of focus and discipline will be the real test of Pelini.
  21. Yep. That's bizarre. I guess Harbaugh can take some solace that every major program with a potential head coach opening is already gathering at his door. Another year for Bo. The meltdowns in the thick of a season where they were poised to be highly ranked were a matter of focus and discipline, and that falls on the HC.
  22. I can think of several running backs better than Bobby Reynolds and I.M. Hipp.
  23. I dunno. Reminds me of people who showed two, maybe three games worth of patience for Shawn Watson's rebuilding offense before grabbing the torches and pitchforks. Yeah. The parallels are uncanny. Except for the fact that one school's standards are high and above the other's.... And the fact that one school's season is imploding while the other's is still capable of a BCS bowl. And the fact that one school is playing with one of its best teams ever while the other school is rebuilding. And the fact that one of the coaches has been on scene for eight years while the other has yet to complete his second year. Aside from that, it's almost exactly the same. Well considering that the entirity of my point is that losing creates short term memory problems, I accept your compliment.
  24. For now I'd like to see us beat Kansas State, and look comfortable doing so.
  25. Holiday Bowl is - for whatever reasons - always one of the most entertaining games and San Diego is a good January vacation. But boy, you don't want to be playing Stanford right now.
