  1. Chase is by far the better QB than Brad. No comparison. I loved it when KU played against Brad Smith. Beat him 3 straight years. He was KU's most valuable player!! Were those the 3 conference games you guys actually won in that span?
  2. This thing has turned into a survey.... How is a kid not being in the right position during the 9th game of the year and most of the first 8 for that matter a talent issue? It's not directly, but a kid's athletic ability will give him a chance to recover from his mistakes (ie. recovery speed, vertical leap, etc) How is a team that gets penalty after penalty, misses tackles, misses assignments not undisciplined? Who said they weren't? Bo keeps saying we are undisciplined and inconsistent...in so many words. Is making a bowl at 6-6 really a step in the right direction? (How many bowl games are there again? I know the practice time is good but seriously) Yes. The team is already improving in the intangibles. If you look beyond the stat sheet, the team is making positive changes. Why are the next 3 games winnable when we haven’t proven that we can stop any good offenses? (KSU passed all over OU and for the record we are freaking underdogs this weekend) Every game is winnable. It doesn't come down to our opinions, it comes down to the players and coaches getting it done. Why do we still play guys that look lost from the opening kickoff? The coaches see these guys every day in practice. Who else do you think we should we be playing? Why is it alright for Bo to talk to the media (just doing their jobs) or officials the way he does? Become a head coach, then ask. How many more loses with the coaching staff saying “We didn’t have them prepared” before people start questioning these coaches ability? (not just the ones with a connection to Billy C) Apparently, people are already questioning this (hence the question?). Some fans have patience, some fans don't. The coaches aren't making excuses. If things don’t improve next year does Bo fire his brother or do we go through another Billy/Coz thing? Bo is still managing the defense. Does Bo ever stop just paying attention to the defense during games? He makes comments on offensice plays in the press conferences. What makes you think he's not paying attention? If Bo hasn’t won a North title by year 3 do we panic? You might, I won't. What if the North were playing out like the South is this year, with a bunch of good teams losing to each other? What kid from last years or this years recruiting class is supposed to be that stud recruit that starts the transition up? (not on offense either) If we're expecting the turnaround to come from an 18-year old, instead of the coaching staff....we're in bigger trouble than you realize. If things don’t improve in the next few years does this tarnish Dr. Tom’s reputation? why would it? He's not coaching. The people wanted Bo, he gave them Bo. Now that Va Tech is turning out to be a very average team how bad does that loss look? (remove Va Tech insert Mizzou) You really can't play that game one way. If the Virginia Tech game make us look bad, then the Texas Tech game should have us talking National Championship. Do people still think Joe Ganz will play on Sundays? Drafted is one thing, but I don't think any of the Big 12 short stacks will play in the NFL. Not Daniel, not Reesing, not Ganz. The NFL puts too high of a premium on "franchise" measurables. I think the combine will weed the short guys out. Why don’t the biggest Blowout in Memorial Stadium (Mizzou) history or the most points ever scored by OU in that series not bother some people? They don't bother me any more than all of the negative records that happened during Callahan's tenure. In year one of Bo's stint, he's still dealing with the environment he inherited. Why wouldn't some of these negative things continue to surface here and there? Why does our Coach and some of our “Leaders” on the field always looked confused and frazzled when we get jacked in the mouth? I have only seen Bo pissed, not frazzled or confused. As for the players, leaders aren't made overnight. Like it or not, on defense, everyone is a first year player (think freshman) in Bo's system. How many people across the state were Bo Pelini for Halloween? I was a Kevin Cosgrove defense for Halloween this year. No one remembers seeing me.
  3. Chase Daniel is a system QB. He's great in that system, but don't confuse him with an NFL quarterback. You have to throw from under center in the pros, not from 8 yards back from the line of scrimmage. He doesn't have a high release and will not be able to throw well over a D-line. There's no 'spread' in the big leagues. I know some shorter guys have had success, but guys like Doug Flutie and Joe Theisman did not flourish in today's NFL, where there is an overrated premium on prototype-sized players. Chase Daniel may get drafted due to his collegiate success, but he will not be a serviceable NFL quarterback. I'd bet the farm on it. Same for my favorite college QB, Joe "Pony Boy" Ganz. ....seriously, watch Joe. He runs like a pony.
  4. This article doesn't appear to be about his top choices. It looks to me like it's just about his last and next visit. He only mentioned BYU in reference to wasting a visit since he's been there a bunch of times unofficially. Mentioning Nebraska or Oregon in this conversation would actually seem out of place unless he has Husker Tourette's. "So anyway, I was at Arizona last weeken....NEBRASKA!....and I met the coaches and talked about mov....GO BIG RED!...moving over to right tackle..."
  5. First penalty.....we're playing some pretty disciplined ball for as many offensive plays as we've had. These guys must hate running gassers!
  6. Me too. I also wonder what all red would look like....maybe not so great with a white helmet.
  7. I played against Bates in a flag football league in Omaha, in the winter after his Senior season. I'm certainly no scout, but the kid was an awesome athlete. I remember him throwing a 50 yard bomb off his back foot while he was getting rushed. He has a lot of agility and strength at his size. I think he's built to be a D-I wide receiver if anything. For some reason, he was on a team with Pat Ricketts and Randy "puff-puff-pass" Stella.
  8. Captain, you are suffering from a severe case of ECS (Excess Callahan Syndrome). You need to take a Chill Pill™ and wait through 8 or 9 games. If conditions do not improve after 8 or 9 games, a biopsy may be necessary to determine how deep the infection is. Your case of ECS may require surgery to remove the infectious Callahan cells from your system. Potential side effects of the Chill Pill™ include irritation, nausea, intermittent confusion and loss of bowl (not bowel).
  9. This guy is never going to win the Heisman Trophy.
  10. If I were a smart Heisman candidate quarterback, embarrassed by a nationally televised booger eating incident.....I might be tempted to claim that someone spit on me, to take the attention off of my booger eating. Maybe someone in the stands had a rude sign, like: "Chase Daniel, 3 TDs, 250 YDs, 1 pick, 2 snacks". He might be trying to clear his name by making other players seem detestable. He's going on tour. Rumor has it that he's going to claim that he got 'totally pissed on' during a 3rd and short next week.
  11. I don't know that this is very similar to the Callahan issues. Chase Daniel didn't claim that Bo Pelini, himself, spit on him. Callahan was the undeniable culprit in the "death slash" and "hillbilly" incidents. Bo wasn't involved in this...so a player being identified could be dealt with, without reflecting the same on the coach or the program. If Missouri was pressing this issue, and Bo was ignoring it, it'd be a different story. Callahan had no out with his incidents, you HILLBILLIES!
  12. "I dont need some hyper sensitive fan telling me how I can or cant feel about the program, or what I can or cant post." Me either.
  13. Callahan did not avoid accepting blame for botched games, but I think it was a little more calla-culated on his part. He said that because he knew it'd be horrid PR to blame players and other coaches. I think Callahan was pretty solid at saying what he thought people wanted to hear. With Bo, it just 'feels' different. His statement of accountability comes off as 100% genuine and humble. You can plainly see the passion, frustration and dedication in him.
  14. That's the only thing I disagree with you on, X... "The Huskers' penalty rundown: 14 for 101 yards against Missouri; 7-69 against Virginia Tech; 7-41 vs. New Mexico State; 12-103 vs. San Jose State; 6-60 vs. Western Michigan." - LJS Isn't playing good football relative? For Texas Tech, playing good football is not rushing for 300 yards. It's executing the fundamentals of their system. It's avoiding mistakes. Are you telling me that our players don't have the 'capability' to make tackles? Because, I've seen them tackle. Are you telling me that our players don't have the 'capability' to read defensive keys and execute? Because, I've seen a few interceptions, batted passes, sacks, forced fumbles, etc. Are you saying Ganz isn't capable enough to make better decisions at times? Because, I've seen him orchestrate some very crisp drives. Have we not seen flashes of good football from all of our units at times this season? If you have, then it's not about fundamental capability. It's about consistency, technique and focus. Translating what you do in practice, to the field, is not a matter of recruiting stars. The fundamental reality is that there is a ton of youth and inexperience at several positions. Plus, the 'experienced' players have a lot of bad habits....but that doesn't make them incapable of playing well enough to win games.
  15. For those of you who can't see the difference between Bill Callahan's response to a loss like this, and Bo Pelini's response.....get a clue. Maybe you just don't understand how passion fuels progress. The team is not what it was last year. It's going to get better. The phrases "We're a work in progress" and "We're going to have to get better" and "It's my fault" should give you a clue as to a change in accountability in the program. Are you not listening to these things when they're said? Well now that you have coach that will tell you the truth, try listening. I know you WANT to hear something different, but he's telling you we're working through where we're at....a 5-7 team with a new coaching staff. There is a HUGE difference between a realist and a pessimist. Realism says to be concerned that we are not playing well enough to compete in this league. Pessimism says we're not a good enough program to compete in the league. Talent is about speed and ability, not offsetting the lack of discipline and mental mistakes that have killed us. Why don't you wait until we play well, before you decide we have no talent. If we play a well executed game and still get our butts kicked, THEN we can start talking talent. To my knowledge, we haven't done that yet. And for people asking what a true fan is....a true fan, is simply a fan who SUPPORTS their team through thick AND thin. They may go up and down emotionally, based on the results, but they do NOT start ragging the program, the players, the coaches, or taking up a loser's mentality because they've been getting outplayed. Fire this guy, bench that guy...5 games into losing against two teams we thought could beat us bad if we didn't play excellent football. Since when does 'Husker Pride' start showcasing itself as entitlement and whining? Hard work, faith and patience pay off, but I guess some people are just spoiled pessimists (aka 'fair weather' fans). How are phrases like "we won't", "we can't", "we don't", cry cry cry....SUPPORTING your team? It's a process called 'group think'. One person starts a negative thread and it sways the negativity in others. It snowballs. You have every right to do this, but as a fan, how is this helping the program or your fellow fans move forward? I hope this negative attitude doesn't spill over into your real lives... "I'm a fan, but I'm going to take my shots at the program, even though there is another big game to play next week. I'm going to cry and whine about how everything sucks. As a 'fan', this is my best contribution to help get things moving in a positive direction. I think my negative b**ching and pessimism is a very sensible approach." Seriously, if you don't have faith in the team and positivity to support the struggle.....go root for Missouri or Kansas. There's plenty of room there for you to blow in the breeze.
  16. That was a kick return. EDIT: Sorry Dan, somehow I read that and completely ignored the "kick-off or" at the beginning.
  17. Agreed, but we're not Buffalo and Missouri's not at home. Those are both real factors, IMO.
  18. Mizzou is going to have to turn it over 3 times for us to be similarly successful. Says who? Buffalo was only +1 in turnovers in that game. They gave it up twice.
  19. Missouri's defense is not that good. They're offense is awesome, but their defense gave up 42 to Illinois, 17 to Nevada and 21 to Buffalo. We can't put up more points than Buffalo? If Nebraska's offense can click and keep the crowd in it....this could very well be a shootout. I'm not predicting a win, but remember three things: This team isn't likely to give up. A 50 point loss is for a Callahan team. Buffalo put up 21 in Columbia. We can't do better at home? Missouri is playing good football, but they're not an NFL dynasty. Look at all the upsets around the league. It's anybody's week right now. Being blind to an opponent's abilities is one thing, but a lot of you guys are cashing in the chips like a Cosgrove defense. We haven't lost yet. We aren't talentless, we've been playing poorly. There's a difference. We applaud the players for not giving up, but then give up on them before the game even starts? What if the players went on the field with the mentality of some of you 'fans'? Get your tails from between your legs and pretend like there's something to play for. This loser-chatter is more pathetic than anything I've seen on the field this year. Seriously. For those of you who are certain we're going to get blown out....please stay out of the stands! We don't need that mentality 'supporting' our team on Saturday. It's contagious. This is the type of attitude that quietly sulks in the crowd when our guys need us into it the most. For those of you who always think your team has a shot....have another sip of the kool-aid and support them.
  20. A lot of women put a great deal of value in how they look. Accenting features that are in high-demand by the common man... ...is a great way to get the attention you don't want. But there is more than one way to dress a salad so it doesn't get eaten...
  21. Ok here is the deal. I have been a huge Husker fan my whole life, I lived in Nebraska throughout high school (still do during summers), but now I attend Georgia Tech (Sophmore). I would not let those numbers fool you. GT has a great front seven, along with some very good run support corners. In contrast, Nebraska does not have a premier defensive unit. In my honest opinion you have to add at least 100 yards of total offense against the Huskers do to the talent discrepancy. The passing game may not be great, but if the Huskers get gashed by the run, which is totally possible, that will open up the pass. GT was solid against Tyrod and the tailback and as a result the pass was not opened up very well. I would guess that Tyrod will have near 100 rushing yards by himself against the blackshirts, he is a top runner, but his accuracy is suspect. Just out of curiosity, what are you basing the terms 'great front seven' and 'talent discrepancy' on? Georgia Tech's two games against suspect offensive lines or last year's 7-6 record? Neither Taylor or Perrilloux are proven commodities. I think we're jumping the gun a bit on what any untested teams are really made of. Two or three games is way too early to be talking talent discrepancies....especially at Georgia Tech. Out of the last four years, Nebraska has had significantly higher ranked recruiting classes in three of them (that means that the experts would say that the current team talent at Nebraska exceeds that of Georgia Tech). So unless you've been watching Nebraska games on PPV, and paying close attention...I'm curious how you're quantifying adding "100 yards of total offense...[due] to the talent discrepancy." 'Living in Nebraska' is not a qualification for ignoring statistics or sensibility.
  22. I think this is the same thing Dillard was talking about during fall practice. He said that last year, guys were out trying to be superheroes, instead of sticking to their assignments. I've blown plenty a lot of plays at shortstop over the years, because I was too focused on the double-play before the ball ever hit my glove. It sounds like Sanders is describing something like that with Asante....big play potential undermining sound assignments and fundamentals. I don't think this is an issue of the kid's physical ability. I have confidence that the staff will either coach him through this, or find someone else that plays a more controlled game.
  23. Maybe this 'Great White Receiver' thread should be moved elsewhere? Outside of Steve Largent, would we really compare the on field dominance of any other white receivers to Jerry Rice, Terrel Owens, Randy Moss, James Lofton, Art Monk, Marvin Harrison, Chris Carter, Michael Irving or Tim Brown? White receivers are like black quarterbacks....in the history of the league, they just haven't been as successful at the position. Besides, Ricky Proehl has made himself the benchmark for white receivers moving forward.
