  1. One's faith has hardly been rewarded especially yesterday. He's a new coach without a clue offensively. I think your faith is misplaced. ah... faith is misplaced. so if Bo, as head coach, as the man who'll lose his job if he's not successful, can't be trusted to play the best players, who should be? some guys/gals on the internet? you gotta be kidding. he's the head coach folks. like it. don't like it. that's how it is. who plays, who doesn't, it's ultimately his call. you are N or you are not. you support him, or you don't. your choice. and just my opinions. I personally believe Bo has given Shawn Watson a huge leash with the offense. Shawn Watson will be fired long before Bo will be. The defensive turnaround has not been good, it has been great. It is time for a power running game again and a new Oline coach. Ultimately the Husker's and Bo's bills are paid by the people of this state. Ultimately the boosters will make the final decision on Watson after this season. If we go to a power running game we have a great offensive line coach. He just doesn't mesh well with Watsons pansy-ass offense. 9 yards up the middle 5 plays in a row with a lead blocker either isn't challenging enough or sexy enough for Watson. A true freshman fumbles trying to get extra yards and you completely abandon it for the shotgun? That is the most confusing move I might have ever witnessed in football playcalling.
  2. I said this in another thread but : Zac Lee is not a Big XII signal caller. That's what seems to be missed by those still thinking he should be playing. He will never be even serviceable at this level. Maybe Cody Green will be, maybe Kody Spano could be next year. It is time to see if Green can play at this level. Think about this, Zac Lee wouldn't start at any other Big XII school right now (barring injury to their starter). He would be third string at Iowa State.
  3. I don't think a complete firesale is the right move. Some yes, play Caputo and bench Hickman? That is a terrible idea. The offensive line looked fantastic yesterday. So good that Watson decided that 9 yards a run with a lead blocker was too easy. We had to make it harder on ourselves. I guess it is too technical for us to understand. BTW, is Hickman hurt badly? Holt and Brooks maybe, and even though Paul had a terrible game he has shown he is the only thing close to a playmaker we have at receiver. Need to get in his head and find out why he has the dropsies. One more comment about the receivers, and I am not trying to say they shouldn't make the catches. We were always told if if hits your hands you should catch it, but HOLY sh#t, if the ball is behind you by a yard every friggin' time how the hell are you not going to drop quite a few. Not only that, but when it is on target you aren't expecting it to be. Drops like this, when you are inaccurate on nearly every throw, are 50% quarterbacking. Zac Lee is not a Big XII signal caller. That's what seems to be missed by those still thinking he should be playing. He will never be even serviceable at this level. Maybe Cody Green will be, maybe Kody Spano could be next year. Think about this, Zac Lee wouldn't start at any other Big XII school right now (barring injury to their starter). He would be third string at Iowa State.
  4. I was never in the closet. I just call things the way I see them. I've followed the Huskers for a lot longer than you might think. I'm not a husker hater. I just don't care about them now that they're worse than mediocre. Their decline started about Frank's 2nd year. I'm just saying huge changes need to happen before the Huskers are an ass kicking team again on BOTH sides of the ball. Osborne is a great guy but he doesn't understand the game and Pelini is not head coach material. An awesome defensive co-ordinator but not a head coach. Speaking of closets, nothing will change until the University cleans out the football closet from TOP TO BOTTOM. If you followed Husker football for as long as you claim, then you would know that we had a pretty damn good football team in Frank Solich's second year 12-1 finished ranked #2....4th year he is in the national championship game. Yep, decline. Wow, naive, idiotic.
  5. It could feature the same plays but have execution differences not to mention play calling differences. Just saying. Toughness is coached, not play called.
  6. I'm not trying to call you out, but is this a fact or just your thoughts? If somebody has quoted or knows Cotton is not worried about technique or footwork, then I am very worried about the future of our O-line (not just this year, but as long has he is coaching). College is the only place these kids really develop technique and footwork. In high school, most of these kids were so more physically gifted than the people they were playing against that they didn't need to really care about technique or footwork. In the pro's, well in the pro's if you haven't already learned technique and footwork you probably won't be one. Color me shocked if this is fact. (ok not that shocked given our recent performances). I'm trying to find the quote, I know it has been posted on here before....
  7. 12? TT, MU, VT.... Or are you saying all season?
  8. because 6 games in you should see PROgression not REgression. Then why not bench Niles Paul? I could not believe what he did on that lateral pass. That play in my opinion turned the tide of that game to Texas Tech. Who was the O-lineman who just watched the tech player scoop the ball and take it in for the score? Bench. For whatever reason Texas Tech just wanted the game more than Nebraska. It was evident on the offensive side of the ball. 1. I didn't read the part about benching, and if you bench Niles Paul who plays for him? Have you seen 3 players better up to this point that would warrant him sitting? Hate to break it to everybody, but how many passes has Niles dropped, besides that lateral? Not many, and he is our best guy. When the coach's said he separated himself from the field, I hoped it was he was great. Turns out he is just above average and the rest are just that, average. I also understand he should have been aware, but Lee is supposed to lead him so that is a forward pass to completely avoid that mistake. That play is just as much Lee's fault as it is Niles. (again, I'm not absolving Paul for not chasing after the ball) Same goes for the O lineman you mention. 2. No matter what you think the problem is, we have regressed as an offense. Injuries are a big part of this problem. The Rex Burkhead injury looms huge now that we find out about the "chronic" injury Helu has. We don't have developed depth behind Helu. Burkhead got by on pure talent. Losing Q was huge, even though we all tried to downplay it. Ward, Jones, Okafur don't have it, why else would they ponder pulling Dontrayveous' Redshirt? 3. This seems to me to be a re-occurring theme with Watson. Even at CU, they would stink the first half of the year on offense even against lesser talented teams. Then they would have an offensive makeover and come back. This has happened every year at NU as well. I understand changing your offense to fit your player's strengths, but can we maybe make this determination a little earlier in the year? Don't take this as a fire Shawn Watson rant, I'm not in that boat, yet. 4. The offensive line is not as bad as we all let on. When I watched the VT, MU, TT games again this week I used a stopwatch (really) to document the time Lee took to throw the ball. On all but 3 or 4 sacks he took more than the allotted 3 seconds. More than 5 times he had a clear running lane and took a sack or threw a terrible pass when he could have gained solid yardage with a scramble. When blitzed they pick up 5 or 6 guys, the RB are not helping in pass pro like they should be. Burkhead was actually pretty good at this, Helu was against VT, not since then. Maybe this was when he originally hurt that shoulder? 5. Last point, from re-watching those games. Jared Crick has a motor that will not stop. He really is a good player on his own even with the constant single coverage. Missouri went to a chip on Crick as well because he and Suh killed them. Amazing stuff, Carl Pelini is the best position coach on that staff not named Ron Brown. What Carl did with a unit that was the worst part of our team and now made them the best DL in the country with the same talent. Unbelievable. Truly remarkable coaching job. edit: spelling
  9. I agree with starting Green right now so that he can begin to mature. But, I find it interesting that in every prediction you have the opposing team scoring more points with Lee as the starting QB. I realize the defense would likely be on the field more with Lee, but they haven't really shown issues with getting fatigued late in the game, despite having been on the field ALOT in all of our major games thus far. As a very young starter, Green is much more likely to be prone to turnovers than Lee is, especially as he has shown that he is more willing to take chances in the passing game. It seems to me that if we start Lee, we'll probably continue to have a bunch of low-scoring, ugly games where neither team can score due to our offensive ineptitude, but defensive prowess. If Green starts, we'll probably put more points on the board, but be more susceptible to giving up points due to turnovers. I'd personally take Green at this point. We would at least get some exciting football instead having to watch our offense go 3 and out all day. I would say that if we continue to go three and out consistently, the D is going to be exhausted. The longer you get into a season the more likely your big guys are going to be fatigued earlier in the game. It will also give the opposing O more drives, which gives them a better chance to score. To the Green point, I see that. However I would counter with the fact that our D hasn't given up a TD on a turnover yet. They are great in quick change. It is when you have to stop a B12 offense on 65 or 70 plays that you are going to be exhausted. I don't know, all in all I think the D is great, but will start to break down emotionally if the O can't score. Either way, whoever starts, lets support the guy. Don't boo Zac Lee when he comes out if he starts, that would be terrible for this program, its fans, and the future recruits. What does that say about our level of support of Bo if we boo his decision before anything happens on the field that day?
  10. because 6 games in you should see PROgression not REgression.
  11. I agree with the bolded part, and with ISU's defense I could see a fairly decent day. CG will play a lot tomorrow, probably in the first half. I think he will look just as good as Zac does. I think no matter who we have at QB we can go 9-3 and win the North. So for fun, here is my prediction with both starters Game result with CG result with ZL ISU W 41-7 W 31-14 I feel ZL will have the defense on the field longer @ Baylor W 24-3 W 17-10 CG first road game, Lee on the road OU L 17-21 L 7-31 Don't like our chances in this game, same ol' Lee @ KU W 41-21 W 35-31 There D is so bad we will score, our D will slow them down KSU W 49-3 W 31-10 Again the D is tired, on the field too long with Lee @ CU W 27-10 W 21-13 Usually close, we pull away at the end. So I think the record would be the same, but think we COULD be a better team with a mobile QB. I realize I don't have much to go off of for this prediction, just my gut feeling. I feel CG may have took a lot of chances, but at least he isn't afraid to try and make a play. I also think he wouldn't press so much if he wasn't down by 3 TDs. I guess I feel that if you win the same games with CG or ZL, and if you think CG wins the starting job next year, why don't you start him now? Anyway, there you go, my prediction.
  12. Uh? Sort of a ham what does that mean? Either I'm having a huge brain fart or thats a new college term hamming it up, ham for the camera...... absolutely not a new term, my grandmother used to use it.
  13. When pass blocking, you don't blow off the ball most of the time. You make initial contact and then step back and wait for the defense to dictate. You pass guys off to a teammate or help a teammate depending on what the DL and LB do. You have to think about who to block while in Pass Pro or you are going to miss blitz pick ups. Blowing off the ball is the problem that Ricky Henry has. I will say, I don't feel Cotton's approach of not worrying about technique and footwork jives well with Watson's style of offense. If we were a running team, fine you can get away with it. In pass pro you have to have fantastic footwork or you won't get to the guy in time. Just my .02.
  14. Don't kill the babies, they are innocent in this! I agree with you, can we please merge all the Anti-Pelini threads together and label them something like "Chicken Little Forum: For those that are convinced the sky is falling". Thank you.
  15. McAeQiLmEYU Okay, so your opinion is wrong. We're happy that you now realize what we've know for a long time. Seriously dude, what is with you and calling opinions wrong or right? For christ sake, you can disagree with an opinion. You can offer a different opinion. You can even try to persuade somebody of your opinion. However, you can not have an opinion that is right or wrong the way you use it. Only facts can be considered such. Basic 8th grade education would teach you this. Not trying to be an asshat here, but this has been going on for a while now and wanted to say something.
  16. There is baseless, naive, idiotic post #600 from you. The press conference ALWAYS starts at 11:30 a.m.
  17. Yes you do. A good coach adjusts on the fly. This is exactly what we did last year after Missouri. Remember how everyone was down on the offense then, asking for Wats and Cotton to be let go? All of the sudden we change to our personnel and we win games. Same thing could be happening now. I would like them to figure it out earlier, however.
  18. I could see it if CG plays a lot at QB. With the depth at RB I think this is how he sees the field.
  19. I'm not speechless often, but I'm hoping this was supposed to be sarcastic, because this level of stupidity is simply baffling. Nothing in that ill conceived ranting even borders on truth. Bo, simply is not head coach material he is a defensive coordinator. If Devaney and Osborne would have acted like this to the media at post game conferences, Memorial stadium would still be 50,00 seats. How many dumb question do you think they answered? And they mostly had to go to Lexington or hastings or Fremont because the media could not have cared less. Where does Bo think his checks come from Green Bay? They built this by being good at holding the media and creating fan interest. THE JERK school of head coiaching is new to me! Scream at every offical refuse to answer questions call the Blackshirt tradition nothing and say that your defense who just played a hell of game did not do good job is just what one expect of a JERK! And to say Watson is a great coach that was not the question. You have two replies, one: we did not execute and two :our offensive coach is a genius! Oh but,----We had a great game plan--- Watson is a offensive genius. We just have lousy lazy kids who can not execute our 320 play West Coast shotgun offense. Blame the player not the coaches and the game plan! It must just be the rain! Sure it is the rain and then we just did not execute our brillant offensive game plan! Oh and the defense did not bail us out. They just did not execute! Whose job is it to tell the players when we throw a lateral it is LIVE ball! Millard North knows a lateral is a live ball but Nebraska does not! And, PLEASE what game plan includes a bacward lateral pass? You saw it DIDN'T YOU? Coach WATSON IS JUST A GENIUS WE JUST DID NOT EXECUTE THE FUMBLE!!!!!! Two games 200 yards in penalties and about 8 quarters of the worst offense I have ever ever seen at Nebraska! Hem and haw and bellow all you like. Repeating nonsense results in more nonsense. To conclude that Bo Pelini is not head coaching material after he took a 5-7 2007 squad to a New Years day bowl game and revitalized one of the worst defenses in college football in two short seasons belays such a profound ignorance of coaching and simple logic that most mentally sound people would have a soul searching session when they came to grips with their own delusional interior life. I'm sorry Nebraska ain't going to the national championship this year. And I'm sorry Bo Pelini isn't some freak coaching hybrid capable of calling both defense and offense. And I'm sorry that he's in his second year as head coach. And I'm sorry if his fierce competitiveness rubs you the wrong way. But you know what's great about America? You don't like it? Fine. Feel free to piss off. Go root for somebody else. But keep your crap ass attitude off this board for the sake of everyone else. Your tedious humdrum is a waste of our time. You don't think Bo knows it's the coaching? You don't think he's steaming mad at himself and his coordinators? Nothing Bo said in his postgame conference was inaccurate. The blackshirts are a great tradition, but tradition doesn't force turnovers, it doesn't bat down passes or sack the quarterback. Media people hound him about the jerseys, and then after a tough loss they just don't quit, so Bo gives them the truth with a side of hot sauce. Deal with it. And as much as people want to complicate football because it is a complex sport, it still comes down to blocking and tackling. The teams that do those things make plays. The teams that make plays win. Period. So enough with the whine fest.
  20. Wrong. Lee had plenty of time. I have never seen so many so called "coverage sacks" against NU. 3 seconds. That is what you get. 3 seconds then you throw or scramble. Figure it out Zac. You are done. Sorry, but I think we still win the North with Green starting. Put him in now, gain experience, do as much this year as Lee could do. Oh ya, give Roy Helu the god d a m n ball.
  21. I 100% agree. I have been a staunch supporter of Lee all year. It is time to put Cody Green on the field. I am sick of the tentativeness. Let Green deveop, Lee isn't the answer. I disagree the ceiling is higher with Lee. I think we can win the north with Green.
  22. Kickoff didn't happen until almost 11:30. We'll be okay, I hope. I would bet KETV would switch us in Omaha. If not they will probably put it on one of the ESPN channels.
  23. You know what else is crazy, keep going on that 60-3. 1992 9-3 1998 9-4 1999 12-1 (finished season ranked #2) 2000 10-2 2001 11-2 That is an astounding record for 10 years. 111-15 over ten years and playing in 5 of the 10 National Championship games, that is absolutely mind boggling. Now think back to how many games that we lost. How many were close? Nearly all of them. It just makes you think about how far we fell, and how quickly. Glad to have a feeling that we are on the right track. But 60-3 or 111-15 might not ever happen for anybody again. Florida State was 108-12-1 (admittedly slightly better than ours) in the 90s with 2 NC and NU was the dominant team of the time because of the three undefeated NC they won. Simply amazing. Florida over their 5 seasons, even assuming they go undefeated this year would wind up 58-9. That might not look like a huge difference, but figure that out per season. Florida: 11.6 wins 1.8 losses Nebraska: 12 wins 0.6 losses That is an average of a game and a half better record each season, with a stronger schedule. No, Nebraska was more dominant. I also remember digging up some info before about the talent of that era, something like 21 of the 24 starters in that Fiesta Bowl played in the NFL. That doesn't even count Frazier. Amazing stuff. P.S. I have been drinking by myself and went stat nerd. Sorry guys.
