I would agree, they are mental mistakes. Things that will hopefully be shored up. The penalties were huge. Its awful hard to run on 2nd and 25. If these mistakes aren't fixed by the end of the year, this is a valid argument. Just not after 2 games. Let them teach the kids. They needed a "fastball or two" as Bo said to get something on tape to teach with.

Being critical after two games isn't realistic. you might need a bigger body of work before you make this kind of judgement "Being critical of what is happening on the field doesn't make anyone a bad fan, it makes them a realistic one." ...or an uninformed one. If everything was Hunky Dory, we wouldn't have Bo. We know it isn't, just give him more than 120 minutes of football to judge his entire staff on.

There aren't my stats they are ISU's under Barney-ball. If you can't look at the stats what can you look at? Rushing yards a game have nothing to do with the passing stats that Meyer and Blthye milked the first few years until they hit their peaks and teams figured them out. I listed RUSHING YARDS and you tell me they are misleading by throwing out Meyer's PASSING YARDS. You also said you can't count the yards lost from a sack, I say BS because the discussion is about Barney's coaching and didn't he coach the OL at ISU? So aren't sacks usually because of crappy blocking? Like I said before nothing ANYBODY says can change my view of Barney and his lack of coaching skill. He is Cosgrove without the success. If you take away the best runner from any team, their stats are going to drop. Don't you think a great team would do better than ISU? Do you really believe the backup to the starter, regardless of his talent to somebody from 10 years ago (I still don't know what the hell that has to do with anything in this argument), is going to be as talented at ISU as say Texas or OU? 3. Can you for one second stop the bashing and think about this? We have played two games with a bunch of guys that are trying to completely change the offense. If you go back and remember the offensive coaches re-designed the blocking schemes from last year on the run game. They got the receivers and tightends more involved at the request of Ron Brown and changed the Oline's assignments on many plays because Barney and Watson didn't like Callahan's ideas. That's right, Callahan. We keep forgetting that he is an OLine coach. That's what he is in the f*ckin' NFL, for christ sakes. (along with running game cooridinator which sucks for Brett Favre!) You don't think he had some input to the blocking schemes? Bo said that they are 1 guy off on many plays. 1 guy off is everything in a run play. NO, I WILL NOT! I refuse to accept anything like that. Part of what makes this so special to everybody is that we EXPECT greatness. OU has been to 5 BCS bowls in 6 years. Why do you think we can't do that? What makes you think we can't be top 2 in the conference every year? There are 4 legitimate big money, big tradition programs in this conference. OU, Texas, aTm, and Nebraska. Notice we are the only ones in the North. The Big 12 setup actually helps us in this. We won't be back if we allow that pesimistic attitude to become the norm in this state. I don't think this thread was meant to annoint us to only a top 25 level team. The author does not expect this to happen, but he has fears about it. You always have fears about anything you love. All of us love Husker Football, but we cannot allow ourselves to slip into any other level of expectation except the best. If our coaches and players work hard enough, they can and will be dominant again. Nebraska Football will be back because that is what this fanbase demands. Plain and simple, we will not allow for us not to return to our rightful spot at or near the top of college football. WE LOVE IT TOO MUCH!

I have completely stopped reading the World-Herald's football section. I am subscribing to the LJS, mainly for Sipple but also for their better reporting. The World-Herald has lost its edge. I would love to see a running attack, and hope to see that edge that our OLines used to possess. God I love Nebraska Football. Isn't it f*ckin' great that we only have 9 days?!? GO BIG RED!!

I can't think you mean effort, but generally I feel that what is called "saving" things for certian teams is actually the fact that the trickery hasn't been installed yet. The coaches won't put those particular plays into the gameplan for that week, because they don't feel they'll need to. Don't get me wrong, a good coach always prepares for the worst but usually you don't need a triple flea flicker in week 1 in major college football. I for one an excited to see the secondary, I hope they can be inspired by the Pelini/Sanders team just like in 2003. I feel there is talent there, and Marvin Sanders said he has more talent in this secondary than the previous one. That saying something, considering there were 4 NFL players in that secondary! They had better go all out.

I don't think its a bad idea, but it will never be the entire stadium so it shouldn't be done. The Athletic Dept will have to give away shirts/announce ahead of time. If everybody doesn't do it, it should't be done.

The college football team NU fans love to hate? 1. Ohio State Notre Dame No self respecting Husker fan can honestly root for this team. They are the exact opposite of everything we stand for. Plus, how in the hell does everybody rank them in their top 25? Are you kidding me? 2. USC Miami Another polar opposite to us. Their over the top celebrations and complete lack of respect for anything is just the start. The fact that they beat us 27 billion times during the "slow defense" years is tougher. 3. Notre Dame Texas Everything is bigger in Texas, especially egos. The fans that traveled to Lincoln aren't bad, but the ones in Austin are. Most of us don't like the fact that they run the conference b/c of their money and boosters. It was nice to see them beat USC in '05, though. 4. Florida The Gators don't get opposing fans' blood boiling as much as they used to -- like when former coach Steve Spurrier was taking jabs at many of his team's opponents. But many fans just can't believe quarterback Tim Tebow is really that good. <--- I think that is pretty right on, besides we kicked the crap out of them! 5. Oklahoma Michigan We hate Michigan, we just don't play them so they are farther down the list. We would have beat them (badly) in '97, we did beat them in '05. It doesn't matter to their idiot fans. They are the greatest program in history. Nevermind the fact they never win anything outside of the Little 11 title. You have to have more than 1/2 of a Nat'l Title (that you didn't deserve) since 1960 to be in our league, kiddies. 6. Michigan Kansas State Talk about Kool-Aid. Johhny come lately KSU was so arrogant 3 years ago they acted like THEY had 5 National Titles. Earth to KSU, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A CONFERENCE TITLE. You are not an elite program. You aren't even an excellent program. My god, CFB started before 1994. You should know that, since you had the record for most losses in a row in the 80s, but I guess they lost the Sports Almanac from those seasons in Manhattan. 7. Texas Colorado Many of us hate the snobby aholes in Boulder. Mainly b/c we don't want urine thrown on us at the games. These guys are absolutely the worst fans in CFB. Make sure you rent a car with out of state plates if you go to a game in Boulder. Plus the whole "we're going to make you our rival even if you don't think we should be" thing is really pretty ridiculous. 8. Alabama USC I am just so damn sick of these guys. I wish my yearly salary was equal to that of the stars on this team. How the hell does the NCAA not find something on these guys, seriously. Oh well, they'll win the Pac 10 again and probably be in the NC hunt. National Media bias is definately apparent here. Plus they almost single handedly destroyed last season. Wait, maybe I should be thanking them for getting rid of BC 9. Miami Iowa Maybe this is just me from growing up on the border, but my god Iowa fans think the Hawkeyes have great tradition, and will actually argue with you about ours. One of them works with me and thinks that Iowa and NU are on the same level historically. Are they given the Kool Aid intraveneously? Holy sh*t! 10. Tennessee The SEC Left them for last b/c I can't stand the entire conference. All of them, they are so smug and unbelievable. They have more loyalty to the conference than they're own team! The good news is, if Marlon Lucky is as good this year in RL that he is in that game, he'll win the frickin' Heisman! I won the NC the second year, Zac Lee improved by like 12 points and is awesome.

I am one of those guys who loves the tradition that makes NU special. This rivalry is not dead. Yes it is carried by the fans, but all rivalries in college football are. These kids always had just 4/5 yrs to soak it in, the passion for rivalries in CFB is carried in the hearts and minds of the rabid fanbases that tradition rich schools are lucky enough to possess. This is still a rivalry, and I refuse to give UT, KSU, or KU any credit as a rival. OU, CU, and MU are our rivals, always have been. That's it. (MU gets put in because of the trophy, that's the deciding factor). Just b/c a team beats you doesn't make them your rival. ISU beat us in '92, are they a rival after? No. DECADES of great competition between teams makes for a rivalry. Not 5 seasons, not even 10 seasons. When you are a prominent national power in CFB, you're rival must be a prominent national power. I would say that OU qualifies. I will have to agree that it is unfortunate that we can't play every year. Also, those of you that say it isn't a rivalry b/c NU is down. What about the 90's where OU was much worse than NU is right now? 73-7, 69-0...those were scores of the last two OU games TO coached. You think OU can beat NU that bad right now? (I guess we'll see, won't we) Sorry to rant, but this is a subject that I feel passionate about and think we need to embrace all traditions.
