  1. Not to worry; Mike Garrett is going to kick some NCAA ass, take some NCAA names, and make everything right. After all, it's all just because the NCAA is jealous of USC!
  2. USC is hoping to bring someone else down with them. Case in point... not suprised at all about alabama, oregon washington (pete carroll school of corruption grad) and the likes but Fresno?? :laughpound :laughpound well i guess they have nothing to lose right For Fresno, it was probably the case of them dialing the wrong number.
  3. I agree to some extent. However, the one area where TCU/Boise State/Utah unarguably fall short is in quality depth. Luckily, they play in conferences where they only play 2-3 tough games per year and therefore have a much easier potential road to BCS bowls. Also, the team is probably less banged up from their road to that bowl game than their BCS opponents. To think about it another way: Put Boise State talent and coaching at KU. Would they be in a BCS bowl in the last five years? I don't think they would. My point exactly! The coaches at these schools may not even be the best, but they know how to play their conferences, and they play to their strengths better than anyone. Which is what NU needs to do. That's a tough call. I would argue that this approach can hurt you as well. I think NU's problem from about 1988 to 1993 or so is that they targeted themselves, especially their defense, to win in the Big 8/12, which meant stopping the triple option variants. While they were largely successful in doing that, they then struggles in bowl games against teams with more modern offense schemes. I think Ohio State had a similar problem in the early 00's when they excelled at "Big 10" football, with it's emphasis on size and power, but then struggled against bowl opponents from conferences that emphasized speed.
  4. I've always been a big fan of QBs named Bubba!
  5. What happens if only native Nebraskans accept?
  6. Not to worry; I understand Neuheisel is going to send them to USC where Lane Kiffin is going to personally instruct them in the finer points of ethical conduct!
  7. You're the cornhuskers, for criminy's sake! What are folks supposed to assume, that it's border-to-border barley and hops? Besides, it could be worse. If UNL was in Keya Paha county, you'ld be known as the Cactus Flowers.
  8. When you name your first daughter Jere Taggie Whatever, you'll know you're there.
  9. I wonder if the UT administration will feel the same about Brown if they suffer a 2005 Oklahoma Orange Bowl or a 2007 Ohio State BCS Championship Game loss.
  10. The big risk with white shoes is that they will make your feet faster than the rest of you. Needless to say, when this happens, things get very ugly.
  11. I'm calling bullsh*t on the Horns getting pandered to. Oklahoma has that honor. Texas comes in second. Texas has gotten screwed by OU over and over. Look at how many Big XII title games OU has been in compared to Texas over the last 5-6 years. Look at last year. Texas beat OU head to head, but OU got the go-ahead over them. I agree that all of the Texas teams should be in the same conference, and we should go back to the Big 8. Blame it on Arkansas. They dimed out the rest of the Southwest Conference back in the early '80s, and got the entire conference with the exception of themselves, and Rice (who is academic first), put on probabation, where they lost a ton of scholarships and revenue. At that time, the SWC was dominant. SMU was in national championship talks, so was Texas, Baylor was awesome, etc. As a result, SMU was the only program in the history of the NCAA to get the death penalty and lose their team for two years, which they are still recovering from. Then in the early '90s, after the SWC lost prestige and money, Arkansas jumped to the SEC, as the SWC fell apart. There was no way it could have held together, because there were only two decent teams, Texas and A&M. Texas has more D1 teams than any other state with 10. They are about to get two more in the next 3-4 years, being University of Texas in San Antonio, and they will play in the Alamodome as their homefield. The other is Texas St down in San Marcos. That will give Texas 12 teams, which will be 10% of all D1 teams. Here is my Texas confrence configuration. With these new teams, I would do it like this: Lonestar Confrence North North Texas TCU SMU Texas Tech UTEP Baylor South Texas Texas A&M UTSA Texas St Houston Rice It goes without saying, of course, that the Lonestar Conference should be non-BCS!
  12. LOL, imagine the camera panning over the nominees and Suh's giving McCoy a noogie with a smile on his face. Laughing at that mental pic...... Seriously though, let's not get our hopes up too high for Suh, because they do point out on the site that most of the early vote is the regional people and people voting for the non-traditional candidates that are hoping they can sway the vote with the early results. They also mention that people who might be voting for questionable picks (McCoy, Tebow) will hold out to the bitter end in order to lesson the amount of flak that they'll take. I'm praying for an upset, but according to the site's logic, he still would be a long shot to win it. Here's to hoping that this long shot comes in. I doubt very seriously Suh, or any O or D lineman, will ever win the Heisman. However, the mere fact that Suh is receiving serious consideration tells me he is quite possibly one of the best D lineman in the modern history of college football.
  13. When it comes to recruiting, I see the burden being on the coaching staff to make the case to the recruit, explaining where the offense (or defense) is now, where it hopes to be, and how the recruit is foreseen to fit into that plan. I don't see the burden being on the recruit to do complete due-diligence on the school to determine where he might fit and speculate on how the system might want to change to best use his unique talents and skills. If a staff can't make that case to the recruit, I expect that recruiting is going to long uphill battle.
  14. Apparently, he is thoroughly and consistently average Big 12 Offense Coordinator. He would probably be a good upgrade for Baylor.
  15. Mountain West Conference would also be a nice fit at least geographcially. Honestly though we need to tell Baylor to GTFO out of the conference and get TCU. That would strenghten it up a bit. Wait, you want to take the one below average team in the South and replace them with TCU and you think that would solve the problem? I don't follow the reasoning of how that would help even out the conference divisions............... Well right now the South division pretty much belongs to Texas and Oklahoma. Taking out Baylor and putting in TCU would be able to challenge Texas and Oklahoma. TCU has been good the last 6 years. Baylor hasn't had a winning season ever in the Big 12. I mean seriously the South division is a two horse race. Every now and then you get Texas Tech and A&M. TCU would be another team to challenge. The only consistent deadweight the North has had has been Iowa State. Well, OK. I would argue, however, that the entire North has been a deadweight and adding TCU to the south would only extrapolate this dilemma. Just don't see the benefit..... I hear the Mid-American Conference is open for applications. Maybe Frank Solich would put in a good word for us.
  16. We only need one rich guy, and his name is Warren Buffett.!
  17. This is like 2 and 1/2 coaches for the price of one, at least in girth. Maryland's Ralph Friedgen was nearly available, but he's back at Md. for another year. I say we go for girth, and worry about quality later.
  18. All this may be true, but most of what you said about the Big 12 pandering to Texas could also be said about the SEC and Florida. Somewhere along the line, Conferences seem to morphed from being an administrator and coordinator of conference athletic teams, schedules and officiating to becoming conference member cheerleader and advocate extraordinaire, especially for those schools that have the best chance for national recognition. To me, it seems a perversion of the original conference mission (and true mission, I believe), but, well, there you go. It is what it is. If a conference needs to break a few member school eggs to make a conference omelet, several (including the Big 12 and the SEC) do so without hesitation or apology. Just be thankful Nebraska isn't Arkansas.
  19. I think Missouri's only excuse would be that they were thoroughly over matched by the NU defense. They managed to play tough defense of their own for three quarters, and Lee's difficulties for the first three quarters greatly helped their defense. Ultimately, NU's offense came alive, and that was all she wrote.
  20. Just ask Miami how hard it is to win in Blacksburg!
  21. For what it's worth on the VT game; I've seen VT play nearly 50 games over the past 5 years, and I've never seen them play better than against Miami. I don't think Miami is as bad as VT made them look, but having seen Nebraska play once, I think Nebraska would have beaten Miami on Sat. by probably 2 TDs. Correct
  22. Although it seemed to have worked out in the end, I think a lot of folks were upset by his decision to tear down their own stadium and move their games to the Steelers' stadium (Heinz Field?)
  23. Ah, thanks. I saw those links on my search but I ignored them because I assumed they referred to his tenure at Pitt before he came to NU. I'm surprised they hired him back.
  24. Just curious; did he land on his feet at another school, or just ride away into the sunset?
  25. My opinion is that recently VT has been a relatively slow starter that gets better throughout the course of the season. Your best chance to beat them is early in the season. By week 4, they may well be getting into high gear.
