  1. Nebraska: Armed Forces vs. Air Force If this is the match up it will interesting seeing how the coaching staff balances short-term goals with long-term goals. I think an extra couple of weeks of traditional practice would really help prepare for the 2016 season and further bond the staff with the players. However, the triple option can be very difficult to stop without the time-consuming preparation of first having some of the coaching staff learn the system, then teaching the scout team how to run it, and then teaching the defense how to stop it. Much of that triple option defensive preparation isn't particularly helpful in the long term for a team playing a B1G schedule.
  2. "I am pretty sure we would get the better athletes the Navy." Ya think? If not, NU should be renamed "Army".
  3. Don't let the uncertainty and inconvienance of coach churn depress you; just be thankful players don't (yet) enjoy the same freedom of mobility as coaches!
  4. The image of walking into a McDonald's and finding myself face-to-face with Bo behind the counter is deeply disturbing.
  5. Ann Arbor has poutine, Loncoln has runza. Seems like a draw to me.
  6. Is HP saying he only wants coaches that no one else wants and will never want?
  7. Garrett is listed for it but don't get it twisted. Riley is a QB guru. He makes chicken salad out of chicken sh#t on a pretty consistent basis Hope you're not implying that Nebraska has an abundance of chicken-s**t at QB ?
  8. Wait a minute! I don't know who Navy's OC is at the moment, but my loyalties tell me he is BY DEFINITION a fabulous coach!
  9. To give him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps on his own Mitchell decided to apologize and went to the PR Dept. for help in wordsmithing?
  10. I believe Bush was at USC from 2003 to 2005, and Orgeron from 1998 to 2004, so apparently he was. I can't find a specific reference, but given that Bush was a high profile recruit for USC in 2002 and Orgeron was USC's principle recruiter in 2002 it is possible that Orgeron himself recruited Bush.
  11. Trying to steal my posts? I hope this doesn't imply that Perlman wants only HC candidates that nobody would ever want.
  12. Granted Bo was the HC at Nebraska and not DC, but defense was often one of Nebraska's weak areas during Bo's tenure. How much of that falls on Bo, and how might that affect his future as DC?
  13. Orgeron sounds like an interesting possibility. Are any of his fingerprints on the Reggie Bush scandal at USC?
  14. I think it's really just as simple as our AD had his own guy, had done all his due diligence as is his job, and wasn't run by boosters or regents. We don't know if we would have worked our way towards Frost had Riley declined. Eichorst values positive energy, and that is something I think Riley and Frost both share in abundance What Riley offers right now is a lot more experience and a lot more stability. I assume the AD avoided the problem many AD's these days have trouble avoiding, namely, if you're going to be held accountable for your hiring decisions (and you are) you might as well make your own decisions, rather than let boosters, etc. "help" you make a decision you're not completely sold on.
  15. If Riley can convince Polynesian players to play in Lincoln that will be quite an accomplishment!
  16. Maybe Riley can hire Bo as his DC?
  17. Maybe we're not seeing the big picture. Maybe the master plan is: 1. Fire Bo. 2. Hire Riley. 3. A miracle occurs.
  18. Hmmm. Not sure my math is right, but I think it looks like: 14 years at OSU: Record: 93-79 In Pac 10 (Pre-Divisions): 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th In Pac 10 North: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th Bowls: Las Vegas Bowl (2), Insight Bowl, Sun Bowl (2), Emerald Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Not Bowl Eligible (4) Conference Titles: 0 Division Titles: 0 I'm looking for signs of an upgrade over Bo here, and honestly I'm just not seeing it.
  19. I honestly don't know how anyone can predict how things will work out. In 1962, Nebraska hired their 4th choice for HC after being turned down by the HCs of Utah, Utah State and Michigan State. Their choice was the HC at Wyoming, where he went 35-10-5 over 5 seasons, The consensus among Nebraska press and fans at the time was very decidely mixed as to whether or not he was a good choice.. This new hire was Bob Devaney, who most now agree did a pretty good job during his 11 years at NU; well enough that he earned the right to hand pick his own successor. His choice was his OC, a guy named Tom Osborne, who also did pretty well.
