  1. But the Democrats had no authority the first two years....It wouldn't have mattered what Schiff and others wanted to use as an excuse.
  2. How would those investigations obstruct the Mueller probe?
  3. But astonishingly enough, they don't......
  4. why is it every new face tells us they are getting large Amounts of pms stating support from other posters? I guess I’ll ask you as well: if there are that many that care, please invite them to join the discussion.
  5. That Duke vs. UCF finish was the best of the tourney so far!  Glad my bracket didn't get destroyed, but man, my stomach hurts for that UCF kid!

  6. Weird.... I always pictured you as this!
  7. Reminds me a lot of the Hillary investigation. “Yeah, there’s evidence. Just not enough to charge.” it it will be interesting to see how we handle the Russians in 2020 though.
  8. I know this isn’t directed at me. But I think most of here that have negative feelings about Trump formed them while listening to him try to put a thought into words, or directly from Trump’s Twitter. I don’t need CNN to make me roll my eyes at the guy.
  9. Over/under on MNBigRed not making it through the weekend? A lot of hot takes this morning; he's ready to roll! Wasn't quite ready to write him off, but now.....
  10. He's the first dem candidate I've watched "campaign". But after watching the first 10 minutes of the "Morning Joe" interview, I had to find the second half to see what else he had to say. Like I said, I've invested zero time looking at candidates, but he is pretty impressive.
  11. "Part" of the wall will most likely be going up. Thanks to emergency funds being transferred from other agencies. Now, as a Nebraskan watching my neighbors sift through what is left of their belongings, I would much prefer funds be transferred from "pet projects" to actual citizens facing a real emergency. An emergency that will have a negative financial impact on the United States; at least in the agriculture sector.
  12. Correct. To my understanding, the formation of independent counsel was to make sure Trump didn't stop the investigation. @MNBigRedNorth is probably right that Mueller wouldn't have been appointed. But that says a lot more about what Congress and the DOJ thought about Trump's intentions to find out what happened, if anything.
  13. This it what I don't understand and actually makes be believe "there is a there there". Trump could have easily, and quietly, announced support behind his intelligence agencies to look into possible Russian interference. His announcement could have been something as simple as "Although there were no successful attempts to alter the the 2016 Presidential election, there were attempts. I believe it is important to protect democracy that we evaluate the attempts and ensure that we are in a position to successfully defend our system again in future elections." The investigation would have slipped back behind the scenes and possibly been out of the news all together until indictments happened. Even then, Trump could call the indictments proof that our agencies are capable of finding justice and holding guilty people accountable. If he is innocent, this would not blow up in his face. However, if he did do "something", it would be a pretty big grand finale!
  14. 2020 is going to be interesting. I'm not totally confident Trump will lose. But I think he, and the people that voted for him, will be taken more seriously this time around. There is also the interesting experiment of how people will vote for the "economy" or the "direction of the country". From the article, these two things are no longer the same: "Trump this week seized on a new CNN poll that showed more than seven in 10 Americans, or 71 percent, view the U.S. economy as “very good” or “somewhat good.” That was higher than CNN has measured at any point since a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll in Feb. 2001 found 80 percent thought the economy was that robust. Yet Trump’s approval rating in the poll — which is usually tied closely to the economy — is just 42 percent. And unlike during the late ’90s, when President Bill Clinton’s approval ratings surged ahead of his personal favorability amid major scandal, Trump’s favorable ratings (41 percent in the CNN poll) track closely with his job-approval rating. Those low scores also apply to many attributes typically seen as desirable in presidents. Just 40 percent say Trump cares about people like them; 34 percent say he is honest and trustworthy; 41 percent say he can manage the government effectively; and 32 percent say he will unite the country, not divide it. Moreover, even how Americans view the state of the country has become divorced from the economy. In the latest POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, only 36 percent of voters said the U.S. was headed in the right direction, compared with nearly two-thirds, 64 percent, who said it was off on the wrong track. For the economic models to be correct, voters would have to shrug off much of what they dislike about Trump and decide the strength of the economy makes a change unwise."
  15. OK? But "assuming" he would have stayed and not played (at least not more that 4 games) he still would have lost a year of eligibility. He transferred when he did so he could play in 2019.
  16. So this happened.... Teachers at an elementary school in Indiana claim they were shot in the backs with plastic pellets without warning during an active shooter drill. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/teachers-shot-active-shooter-drill_n_5c93fc99e4b0a6329e142b5a?ncid=engmodushpmg00000004 via @HuffPost
  17. I didn't realize this was a concern about Biden until this thread. Man, after doing a quick Google and watching some of the videos that have been compiled. Wow, very creepy!
  18. Why not? If Hoiberg has signed a contract, I don't see a legal issue in announcing. But I also don't see a reason to announce while the team is still playing with Miles as coach. If he hasn't signed anything yet, then there is nothing to announce.
  19. I can kind of see it. If Gebbia had stayed, and never played, he still would have lost a year. Gebbia had to transfer when he did to save a year of eligibility. But on the other hand, one player played a lot as an underclassmen, switched positions to help the team, and also stuck around long enough in a new system to know for sure that he wasn't going to play a ton in it, and then transferred to have just one more year to actually enjoy himself.
  20. And there are many people on this site that are openly much more conservative than I am. Like it has been suggested before, tone down the rhetoric and just talk on issues case-by-case. Support it with facts. You can use your "Conservative Tree House", but don't be angry when people ask for the points to be verified. It is a very reasonable forum. But I freely admit, it rejects crazy in a very entertaining way!
  21. I'm curious, If that was the deal breaker twenty years ago, how on Earth are you not disenfranchised by Trump over the last 30 years?
  22. I'll just lay my political beliefs out there in a nutshell: 1. Taxes: of course I want to pay less, we all do. But I realize taxes are necessary to fund important programs, therefore I want them spent in the most efficient way possible. I don't believe "charity" would ever be enough to cover the programs that help make America what it is. 2. Education: As a public school teacher, I'm a proud supporter of public schools. However, like everything it isn't perfect and should strive for constant improvement. I'm also ok with people sending kids to private schools as long as it isn't on tax payer money (see #1). 3. Abortion: I want to see it go away. It is a sad and tragic thing for any person to go through. But as a father who potentially had to face a decision about my wife's high risk pregnancy, I understand that when hard decisions need to be made to save lives of mothers and babies, the govt should have no role in those discussions. Only doctors, parents, and clergy if wanted. I believe programs that lower unwanted programs should be utilized around the country to lower abortions. I have no problem with the laws that say "optional" abortions are illegal after the 1st trimester. 4. Immigration: I want secure borders. I believe investing in technology and equipment is the way to go. Yes, walls/fencing are needed in areas of high traffic. But there are better things to spend money on than one continuous wall. I think it should be easier for high-skilled immigrants to gain citizenship and low skilled workers to get a seasonal work visa. I also believe companies should be punished more than the workers when hiring undocumented immigrants. I'm also for the DREAM act that allows people brought as children, that don't have a criminal past, and are pursuing college and careers to stay. 5. Healthcare: This one is tricky. "Who knew it would be this complicated?" But I'm not for the status quo. There is no humane reason that people should have to choose between paying the mortgage or life saving medicine. 6. Environment: I believe climate change is happening and humans are a significant part of that. Policies surrounding energy, construction, manufacturing, and conservation should be aware of the impacts on the environment. Now it would be awesome if every individual could be responsible and make good choices, but that isn't how the world works. Sadly, we need regulations to reign in both laziness and greed. 7. Religion: I don't think anyone should be persecuted for their religious beliefs. I feel they should be able to assemble and pray and live life without the worry of judgement. I also strongly feel this means religions outside of Christianity also. 7. Government: In general I don't see the govt as "bad". I see bad people we elected to our govt. I'm a strong believer in Lincoln's words: "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people...." I, like many others, see the the government as a reflection of the American people. When I pay taxes, I don't see it as paying a third party; I see it as chipping in to pay for my part of society. When my government wants to exclude people because of religious beliefs or sexual orientation, I take it personal because that is "MY" government. I want to live in a nice community, in a nice state, in a nice nation; that takes a concerted effort of people working together to raise and spend funds in a responsible way and creating an environment were people can grow and be successful if they put in the effort. Overall, I'd say I'm a right leaning Democrat. Although I am a registered Republican. My wife, however, jokes that she is going to buy me a MAGA hat when we talk politics: she's much further left than I am
  23. This might be your problem. I don't have any stats to back this up, just an anecdote. But my Dad lives in Pierce County, one of the strongest Trump supporting counties in the 2016 election in nation. When he goes to coffee in the morning the guys, who proudly voted for Trump, no longer want to talk about national news. Why? Because they freely admit they voted for Trump as a vote against Clinton. They don't like the guy, they think he's a clown. He's just better than the alternative. Now these same people want border security. They want anti-abortion legislation. They want lower taxes. They want a fiscally responsible government. And a few are openly against Muslims, LGBT, and any other non-white non-Christian. They all hate "liberals". And most importantly they want life the way it was back in 1960 when they were kids and everything was groovy and the family farms were enough to support their families. But they also have given up on Trump getting them that. But they'll vote for him again because he's Republican. Like I said, a very small snippet, but I have not seen a person with reasonable political beliefs be a HUGE Trump supporter. I'm sure they exist, maybe you'll prove to be one.
  24. I don’t mean to say what he did was good. But it also wasn’t some disgusting form of child abuse. How old are the kids? The vaccine came out in 95.
