  1. That’s the one I watched too. I think mostly starts around the 1:06:00 mark
  2. I I didn’t think Phillips instigated. I actually think he kept the boys from making a really bad mistake in physically interacting with the Black Israelites.
  3. Man, this is one ugly situation. I don’t blame the boys as much as I did at first, but I don’t think Phillips deserves fault. The group from Covington was getting sucked into confrontation by the Black Israelites. Phillips and his group noticed and entered the group to redirect the students. From there, it’s hard to say about all the individual comments back and forth, except that it was ugly. It also all could have been avoided if chaperones were there to get the kids away from the very small group of Black Israelites.
  4. Right or wrong, NE teachers don't have a choice (as far as I know). I'm required to give and the district matches...Unfortunately there isn't a lot left to invest in other retirement options. Edit: This isn't a "woe is 'underpaid' teacher me!" post. Just the truth that we pay 10% every month. I think many people would be hard-pressed to find more money to save after 10% for retirement, mortgage, all other expenses including college funds for kids. I'm hoping my wifes 401k rocks it and the pension is still there. Could be a pretty cushy retirement!
  5. I'll be honest. This makes me nervous. I'm a teacher and give into NPERS every month. We also have a 401k through my wife's work. If I could retire tomorrow I'd be in great shape with my pension. However, I'm not eligible to retire for at least another 20 years....a lot could change...
  6. How so? Something new? Or there were things that happened before that caused schools to cool on him? Did they creep back up?
  7. I guess.... It also shows that there are no places in London that Police won't go if they are called to enforce the laws of London and/or England. Which is the opposite of what your friend told you. Maybe I'm misunderstanding....
  8. Do the Police volunteer this information? Is she a police officer? How does she know? The article I posted says this is false. Police have cracked down on the Muslims that tried to "police themselves" and Muslim leaders have publicly condemned the "self policers (sp)"
  9. I think a good point to remember is that there are people in all nations that are susceptible to "fake news".... I'm sure there are plenty of people in England that are sure tens of thousands of Americans are being raped and murdered by drug-dealing Mexicans because their American, Infowars watching, friend told them about it...
  10. Are these real? I thought they were debunked a while ago... https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-no-go-zones-muslim-sharia-law-third-poll-hope-not-hate-far-right-economic-inequality-a8588226.html
  11. I don't get why he couldn't have his hotel, a couple of blocks away, cater...
  12. +1 There is a Tweet for everything....I can't wait to see what it like in 10 years with Twitter. There won't be any new Tweets, just people retweeting old Tweets to call people out.
  13. My apologies if this was meant for me. I was referring to B.B.'s post from above...
  14. I got lost at "poverty doesn't make a person sell drugs". Have you not seen "Breaking Bad"?????!!! All jokes aside. I'm not impoverished, I wouldn't sell drugs or steal to support my kids. However, if I saw my kids starving or need medical treatments I cant afford, you better believe I'm gonna do whatever it takes to feed/help them. Laws be damned...
  15. I think I get your point. I've had quite the FB discussion with one of my cousin's kids this morning. CliffNotes: We agreed the government is in debt and money for the wall would add to deficit. We agree healthcare options are way to expensive for normal families. We agree that sometimes the government needs to spend money they don't have and hope for a return on the investment. Her stance: Spend money we don't have on a wall to make healthcare cheaper for all. Also her stance: Do not spend money we don't have on healthcare to make healthcare cheaper for all Wasn't sure where to go, except the beer fridge, after we established that....
  16. Maybe I don't actually qualify as a Democrat. But I'm in the camp that I'd like troops out of warzones. But I also realize if you just pull them out without a real plan, chaos can and most likely will fill the void.
  17. Careful, you might get one of those "eyerolls"
  18. I fully understand his point. ....and I'm saddened by it.
  19. Agree. And to add to your explanation about how Trump is not truly pro legal immigration: this whole "crisis" was built upon the caravan of people coming to the US to seek asylum and ports of entry. This is completely legal. They are not "illegal" until they fail to show up for court appearances, which is an issue that can't be solved with a "wall".
  20. I'm with you. Let the motherf***ker golf everyday of the week in Florida. Sorry about the language, but I figured this was the new normal when talking about politics and people involved.....
  21. I did notice. And it's a big reason why I don't trust the GOP. I'm for universal healthcare. I'm for green energy and an aggressive approach to climate change. I'm for rebuilding our infrastructure. I'm for a lot of things that cost a lot of money. I'm also okay for raising taxes and making cuts to pay for them. I just don't get why Dems think the words "raise taxes" is a dirty word. If we citizens are getting something for our money (like a planet to live on) it should seem like a "steal". I think most families would be ecstatic to pay $5000 a year in taxes to pay for healthcare instead of the $12000 they pay to private companies in the forms of premiums and deductibles. American people aren't all dumb. Lay out the problems. Lay out the math. Lay out the benefits. Maybe I have too much faith in Americans....
  22. And because of that, funds should be raised to pay for it. Maybe eliminate fossil fuel subsidies and/or increase revenue. I agree that huge steps should be taken. Yelling over and over again that we need to do something, isn't doing anything. Proposing a bill that has zero% chance of passing isn't doing anything. If we are going to rely on our government to "do something", a framework of legitimate programs and policies need to be fleshed out and funded. Otherwise, we aren't doing anything.
  23. I'm all for investment in green energy and rebuilding infrastructure. I think addressing the needs created by climate change and our failing public works are definitely worthwhile goals. But so is paying for them. If they can't "cut" something, raise taxes. I know government budgets/debts are much more complicated than simple credits and debits. But instituting a multi-trillion dollar program with no intention of funding it is crazy.... I think Claire McCaskill was right about some of these new members. Their hearts are in the right place, but they are going to be pretty disappointed when they realize what they can actually achieve.
