  1. Honestly dude, make it a priority. Make each Husker away game when you and your friends meet at a bar to hang out. The dates are set far in advance so that is not a problem. Make each Husker home game a day where you and them go to Lincoln and/or a bar to watch it. I know that only covers about 3 months but it is a start. You will probably have to nag some of them about it, but do it, it is worth it. I don't have a problem with "events", We gather and we have fun. My question is how to "fill in the gaps". How to move a couch without organizing a reunion? How to have a place to go when the wife pisses you off that doesn't require a trip to the gas station? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to help move a couch or offer a "beer and ear", I just wish it didn't require a moving truck and realtors to be closer to buddies.... TeacherCD, I also teach and I'm in the middle of summer, maybe I'm just suffering from cabin fever.
  2. I have a feeling this is a common problem for a lot of guys our age. The "beer commercial" world of a group of guys hanging out (after different jobs and lifestyles) and getting into "shenanigans" doesn't really exist after the age of 25. However, I come from a small town where I had a dozen cousins and family friends within 5 miles; not the case anymore where "close" means 15-20 miles through town...
  3. I'm in my early 30's, married, have 3 young kids (not old enough for sports), live in West Omaha, and have no time for leisurely "hanging out". I have plenty of friends but we have spread out. Even though Lincoln, Gretna, and other spots are close; it is a pain in the *ss to get together for a few beers unless you want to make a night of it including babysitters and spouses.....and a personal assistant to handle everyones's schedules Our neighborhood consists of people much older than us, my coworkers are mostly in another zipcode, and my wife's coworkers are all female. Hell, I can't move a couch to the basement without planning it for 2 weeks. More or less, I'm just venting about getting older, and having responsibilities. Just looking for advice on how to make the transition easier.
  4. TITS MY BAD GUYS!! dumb move though. I actually played basketball with him at the rec yesterday. Strange. Dammit, it's people like you using disrespectful terminology that makes the rest of us stare at pics of "Bob Devaney" and the word "censored". Act like a grown man, act like you don't see 'em Just stop talking..
  5. Who's this kid think he is...Lebron James???
  6. Once these recruits realize "Bob" Stoops is still at Oklahoma, things will slow down a bit. Some of these kids probably thought they committed to OU!
  7. Wifi has some info from an inside source. He can't say right now but probably about 7:00 or so he'll be able to let us in. Wait, is his inside source the guys from Huskerboard or every Nebraska newspaper???
  8. I will accept updates from either EZ or TV...
  9. Stanton and Darlington making Spring game debuts on the same day With the hype that "unproven" QB's get after this game we are going to have a fun Spring and Summer next year discussing if the "next Manning" is going to start over the "next Brady"! Welcome aboard!!!
  10. Aren't they still going to be called "The Big East"? I thought they were allowed to keep the name. Anyway "The Big East" is still going to be a great basketball league. I agree it isn't B1G basketball, but it isn't far behind. I'm actually excited enough about the new Big East that I will actually go to a few Creighton games....
  11. Sorry, Landlord. I'm rereading my quotes and I don't see the "couple yards" in your post. For some reason that what I had pictured in my mind. My apologies, my reading skills need some work....
  12. Really?...the University just needs a reason not to let Brown close to kids, this might be it.... I don't care how kind and affectionate the coach is AFTER winging a football at my son/daughter, the guy would be a "douche" in my eyes. I remain hopeful that you are exaggerating and the OP is just a chance to share your "story"...If a Division One coach heaves a ball at a kindergartener from 4-5 feet at full strength, the guy should be should be nowhere near the field of child development. Easy does it there cowboy. I'm bettin it was a little exaggerated. Not to mention you probably had to be there to fully comprehend the moment. Outside of the Omaha city council appearence, Ron Brown's record stands for itself. Do we have to go down this road again? Sorry, didn't mean to go there. I like Brown as a coach, kinda the reason for my post; I want him on the staff. I don't want someone's loose story telling starting rumors that are bad for Coach Brown, but I probably did more harm than good with the "drama" in my post. I fully support Ron Brown as an NU coach! Sorry, Coach Brown - just please don't get caught whipping footballs at kids in carseats By my recollection it really wasn't a loose or exaggerated story. Not entirely in context maybe. But I had zero issue with it, and all of Nebraska FCA staff and the dozens if not hundreds of parents and huddle leaders didn't seem to either. Either your story is exaggerated, or Brown threw a ball as hard as he could at a six year old from 5 feet away while the child was running towards him and got "dinged up"...

  15. This is what I'm afraid of also. Oh well, it will only be an issue if the Huskers hold home against Mich and Indiana stays strong against the Buckeyes. I'll worry about it next Sunday
  16. I have a question about how the seeding will play out after the Huskers take 2/3 from the Gophers. If Indiana wins the series against OSU and Nebraska takes care of Michigan, in a "normal" scenario NU and Ind would be #1 and #2. However, because of Minnesota's cancelled series with Michigan State, they will have a better winning percentage (assuming they win their last series against Illinois). My question: how will the MSU vs. Minn cancelled series play into league standings and tournament seeding?
  17. It makes complete sense. Just read the "What 2012 season would you rather have". Wisconsin is good because they lost close games, including a blown lead at Nebraska. Nebraska is bad because they had to squeak out wins and got lucky against Wisconsin. The psychology of Husker fandom is a complicated area
  18. Congrats Hoffman's!!! Jack, you have done more for your cause than would have ever been expected. Congrats also to Rex and the rest of the Husker squad. Very proud to support you guys!!!!
  19. Caption: "I completely understand that Coach Pelini let you carry the ball. But, I REALLY, can't let you push that button...."
  20. Regarding your second point, isn't that what we should've thought with the Big 12 North? Sure, NU won that division more often than not, but once Osborne's recruits were gone, NU could no longer complete with the new Big 12 elite (OU/UT) nor the national elite. I fear this realignment will put NU on this same course. Theoretically, NU should now experience even more trouble pulling the best recruits out the B1G Eastern states considering they're already closer to home and now the percpetion will be that the best football the B1G has to offer will be in the East. Perhpas NU will do a better job overcoming this in the B1G than they did in the Big12, but on paper, this is the same story different conference. There is truth to your post except one major variable. NU has fired 2 coaches for not succeeding in "weak" divisions by making regular appearances. Bo has done that outside of his first year on the job, and his first year in a new conference. Bo has appeared, and competed, in conference championship games (insert Wisc. joke here ) when common logic was against it... first year: shared North with a good Mizz team 2nd year: :01 3rd year: 2nd half offensive meltdown from a championship 4th year: new conference, different style. Still, respectful showing. 5th year: hey, at least the bus driver showed up..... I know this will get us nowhere, but ALABAMA has only represented their division 3 out of the last 5 years.....and 4 of the last 13!!!!
  21. I agree with everything you said. Our only difference is perspective. I see the divisions as a problem for OSU, Mich, and PSU, not Nebraska. As far as money, if the B1G continues to share equally, it won't matter if OSU vs Mich gets more ratings than Neb vs. Wisc (However, I do concede that recruiting could be affected by this. But I'll get to that in a moment). I would rather see the Huskers as a regular Championship Game contender and play the powerhouses than play in the same division and only get to the title game every 3 or 4 years. I think playing (assuming Neb wins some) OSU or Mich for titles at least every other year, would do more for recruiting than playing these teams in October. Very good points. An easier path to the championship, even revenue sharing, and the east beating up on each other all can work well for the Huskers. We are already at a recruiting disadvantage of a sort anyway... but regular/semi regular CCG appearances certainly cannot hurt. That said... there is Wisconsin who is a load and who has owned the Huskers. So... must somehow get past them to get in. Someone above said that the West would be the Huskers to lose... that had to make the Wisconsin fans laugh as they sit on a scoreboard over the Huskers with a 70pt beatdown. No... the West is Wisconsin's to lose with the Huskers the hopefuls to unseat them. But yes... that path is still easier than the path through the East. I agree. I was basing my post off of a lot of the views I was reading in this thread, aka the "West" is the Huskers' to lose. I agree that Wisconsin has every right to laugh as they read this thread. They have every right to laugh as people talk up OSU and Mich and that they are the powerhouses. Still, we have ONE Wisconsin on the West side, and the East side has TWO teams in OSU and MICH.........and on the plus side: Nebraskans get to flash the "Westside" hand gesture on national TV during the CCG and not look like a "complete" tool!!!
