  1. actually, the best way he could have handled it is to say: Yes - there will be coaching changes and they will be made and finalized as soon as possible. Once things are finaled we'll hold a press conference so we can address your questions. But until then, no comment will be the answer to any coaching related questions. Actually, that is exactly how he handled it. If one would read Shatel's entire article, it's posted in the thread about it, one would see that Pelini said as of now there are no openings, BUT there could be some staff movement next week. Meaning: Watson, Gilmore, etc are still under contract and employees of the University, however, there contracts are soon to expire and there may be some openings then.
  2. If possible I would have given you a plus 5. This is almost copy and paste from like 3 other threads. BTW- did you all miss this? 2. Pelini had an agreement with Indiana coach Kevin Wilson not to say anything about assistant coach Corey Raymond coming to NU until Raymond had officially been hired. Wilson jumped the gun and confirmed the hire on Wednesday, national signing day, putting Pelini in a tough spot because he couldn't comment on Marvin Sanders' status. 3. Pelini said Sanders' future was not officially wrapped up until Thursday. Pelini said he was not at liberty to discuss Sanders and refused to comment on Sanders any further than his statement on Thursday. 5. Pelini wouldn't comment on Scott Frost or any of the other speculation involving possible offensive coordinators or assistants. However, he said there could be some staff movement next week. Do you not see that he is being completely literal with his answers, based on contractual start dates and official announcements and doing everything in a "by the book" fashion. If you understand points 2 and 3 and then read point 5 none of this is a problem. Some of you (currently being outvoted 3 to 1 in the teleconference poll) really seem to be stuck on this. Those of you that think TO will step and and deal with your imaginary problem will probably be disappointed. I'd guess he has been part of decisions and information control all along. I "+1" this. I really wish people would read a whole article before complaining about one sentence. I really think it is "some" people on this board that are getting too caught up in semantics, not Bo.
  3. Huskerboard makes every posting member smarter. If you read the "Braylon Heard Did Not Make It" thread, everybody did amazingly on their ACT's!!!!
  4. This may be true. I don't believe anyone (I'm probably wrong) is saying getting a degree from a University means your are automatically more intelligent than people without. I'm working on my 2nd degree, my brother has zero. Yet he is better off financially and probably has a better grasp on life. I would willingly say that he is smarter than me. What I believe is that if you want to go to a University and play sports, you have to meet the standards of the school and the NCAA (or whatever athletic association that school is a part of). Which includes High School GPA and/or ACT, SAT scores. A great musician/artist doesn't need a college to be successful. Braylon (if his goal is to make football a successful career) needs college to play his sport. He needs to meet the standards set forth.
  5. Do you run into a lot of situations out in the real world that are comparable to filling out a bubble sheet test? Yeah. Didn't think so. The real world isn't multiple choice. Standardized tests largely measure how good you are at taking standardized tests. That's true with the SAT, ACT, LSAT and to a lesser degree the MCAT. How many times does an attorney have to dissect a frog in his career? Yet to graduate from law school, one has to graduate from a four-year institution, preceded by graduating high school, preceded by passing eighth grade biology, which required dissecting a frog. One can argue that most of what is learned in school is totally irrelavant to everyday life. However, these irrelevant steps are required to show the ability to learn and move on to harder and more relavant material. If Braylon, or any student for that matter, can not pass the neccesary classes/tests, he need to find a way to show he is worthy of moving forward with his education. Unfortunately for him that is two ways, "1" getting the necessary ACT score (culturally biased or not) or "2" go to JUCO and prove that he can be successful in the classroom. It's on his plate, not the University's, Bo's, High School teachers'. He can still make it, on way or the other. His choice. So filling in circles is as academically beneficial as learning the anatomy of animals? Noted. I'll let you know in 5 months how useful frog dissection is to an attorney. I can think of a few scenarios where general lab knowledge would be helpful. It's certainly more useful to an attorney (keeping in mind that I'm not yet an attorney) than multiple choice testing ability. Virtually nothing in the law is multiple choice/black letter. My point isn't to argue what is relavant or irrelavant (frog dissection/attorney might be bad analogy). My point is that people need to take necessary steps(irrelavant or relevant)to get where they want to be. I'm not arguing for or against the use of the ACT, like everything it has Pros and Cons. However, the NCAA uses this as a measuring stick, this point cannot be argued. Braylon has put himself in a position that his enrolling at Nebraska relies solely on this measuring stick. If Braylon got jobbed by a bitter high school teacher, or the UNL Financial Aid Office was at fault, or if the NCAA changed the rules at the last minute, then I would feel sorry for him. But, he has put himself in this situation and he still has very attainable ways out of it. Therefore, I do not feel bad for him. Although, I do hope he makes it one way or the other because he seems to be a good ballplayer and he wants to receive an education beyond high school.

  7. So...are you agreeing that you may have been unfocused, for whatever reason, in high school? Thus, recieving a GPA that wasn't truly reflective of your intelligence. But doing well on the ACT, whether you cared to take it or not, shows that you truly are capable of learning you just didn't care to show it to most of your HS teachers? 307Husker is not saying people who don't do well in high school can't score high on standardized tests. He is saying people that do not score highly, are generally less successful in college. The statistics, which 307Husker stated, show that there is a corrolation to HS studies, learning ability, and ACT tests. It is just that, a corrolation, not a template. There are exceptions to this rule. Back to Braylon, he had low scores in high school which led to a need for a certain ACT score. If he was "college worthy" he could make up for his "unfocused" HS career and show he can handle college coursework by scoring a sufficient score on a standardized test. However, his low score shows that his low high school grades might be more than just "not caring". He might just be one of millions, that are not capable of going to a Universtiy fresh out of high school.
  8. Per NCAA rules, a team is only allowed to have a certain number of asst. coaches, this includes OC, DC, LB Coach, DL Coach etc. If the Huskers do not hire a replacement for Ekeler, Pelini could potentially bring in another offensive coach. This could free up Watson to be strictly a QB Coach or Offensive Coordinator.
  9. I heard Bo Pelini is interested in the Stanford job!!!!
  10. Please enlighten with a better analogy then.
  11. Let us know when you reach the summit of that molehill. Ill be climbing right along side you Forge. This is just another example of Bo's ineptitude with the media. Maybe he will finally learn his lesson and show a little respect towards the media. I was listening to the post game press conference when this lady asked the question regarding the sailor calling the play. He was very short and disrespectful with her. When is he going to figure out that the press is simply doing their job, the same way he is doing his. IMO he deserves to be attacked by the media like this. I wish more of the local media would step up and ask the difficult questions and write the difficult stories to keep Bo accountable. Imagine you are sitting in front of your boss. You are explaining to him and the board of directors how you just screwed up a big business deal. You are trying to explain how the deal went bad (finances, logistics, labor costs, etc.)and what you plan on doing to make sure it doesn't happen again. You are concentrating on questions pertaining to a situation in which you failed. The secretary then interupts your meeting, "excuse me, Mr. Pelini. What color of flowers would you like me to pick up for your anniversary?" Hey, she's just doing her job! On another note, if the media would ask "tough" questions, Bo would probably be nicer. How does "what happened to the sailor calling a play?" qualify as a tough question? The press needs to do their job to get respect. A start might be to ask a "football coach" who just coached a "football bowl game" a "football" question.
  12. Actually, I'm glad we had Henery while we had this offense. Think how bad it could have been without him getting us at least 3 points when the offense was on the field.
  13. Thanks, my office now knows I look at Huskerboard at work!!!! +infinity to you, sir!
  14. Link no worky www.journalstar.com It is in the Husker extra section in the article titled "Pelini mum on Miami Job" It is also in the first 4-5 pages of this thread. Osborne did say that he gave no permission to Pelini to talk with Miami. However, Osborne comment didn't do much because now people assume Bo went over Tom's head. This rumor is going to go on until Bo says it is all BS. Even then, I have a feeling it will continue with every job that comes open.
  15. Because some people are stupid who continued to believe in this stupid rumor and drag it out. Here is what Pelini and Osborne had to say but yet people still believe in this stupid rumor. Bo Osborne As a poster below said, it's not a rumor, it's been reported by 2 news outlets. If this was not true, it would be really simple for Bo to say, "I am happy at Nebraska and am not looking for any other jobs at this time." That would put this report to bed instantly. Or TO could say, "We have not been contacted by Miami requesting permission to talk to Bo, and Bo has not requested permission to talk to Miami."[/b] You have to read into their vague statements. As far as this is concerned, I get the feeling that maybe Bo wants to be somewhere where there is a little less pressure (maybe) and the fact that TO is looking over his shoulded and possibly questioning his every move could bother him. I'm sure the public admonishment from Perleman didn't sit too well, either. TO did come out and say this. Link? Journal Star It has also been posted several times in this ongoing trainwreck of a thread:)

  17. I didn't say Miami is as good a football team as Nebraska. I said they are as nationally relevant. I was referring to the post that said Miami is not in championship discussions, I stated that just four months ago they were favorites to win (granted a bad) ACC conference and had a Heisman candidate at the QB postition. This talk was before any games were played; that tells me that they ARE nationally relevant. Nebraska had to go 5-0 before the Huskers were in the talk and had a Heisman candidate.
  18. Actually, Miami was also several pundit's favorites to play in the NC Game. Harris was also a preseason Heisman contender. Very early and before games were played, but they were in the conversations. To unbiased college football fans, Miami is not that far below Nebraska in national relevance.
  19. If it makes anyone feel better, David Ubben (also from ESPN) refenced the Journal Star and said Osborne and Pelini debunked Miami rumors. ESPN is just referencing newspaper articles. FWIW, the Miami Herald article also says that Nebraska played Clemson in last year's bowl game. Not a lot of research done!
  20. Bold: So he didn't "really" freak out, only similarly? Underline: Me either!
  21. I'll give the writer some credit. He probably had in his mind when the game was scheduled that he wanted to take the "Turner back to Nebraska" angle and the emotions behind it. I'm sure (at least hoping) that he had pre-interview(s) with Gill about his upcoming trip, watched his mannerisms while he was there. And more than likely (assuming he had Gill's permission) wanted to talk with Turner after the game win or loss. While he was talking with Turner, all the "dramatic" things happened and he felt that might be a better column. I enjoyed it, I could picture the scene he set, and I read from the first to last word. The author did his job. I'm not a writer, so I'm slow to be critical. My cousin is a sportwriter for a paper in western/central Nebraska, and he told me it is not uncommon (with permission) to follow a subject on to the team bus (you have to fit the subject's schedule). This would explain the "up close" view of the post game meal. Granted, he deals more with UNK and high school coaches. Bottom line..Chat was probably having an organized interview, but felt the story happening around the interview was better.
  22. That would be like cheering for Duke Football, You know it won't help them any, but why not. Duke football is "cheer practice" for Duke Basketball. It's just to remind people where the campus is!!! to be clear that is a joke aimed towards Bo's reference to A&M's yell practice Knapp, it's not funny if you have to explain it ooooooooo....a knapp-slap! Please trust me, it was all in good fun. I thought I should put this out before I get the wrath. In all honesty, I tried to "edit" my own post to explain it was a joke. But hey, I don't claim to be funny, just fun.
  23. That would be like cheering for Duke Football, You know it won't help them any, but why not. btw, I got your joke and thought it was funny Duke football is "cheer practice" for Duke Basketball. It's just to remind people where the campus is!!! to be clear that is a joke aimed towards Bo's reference to A&M's yell practice Knapp, it's not funny if you have to explain it
  24. I forgot to mention.... With a BCS bowl comes the month long advertising of FOX/ESPN (whoever has the games this year) pimping up the BCS bowls and matchups. That means Nebraska gets nationwide primetime advertising for a few weeks plus the other financial benifits with a BCS game. In the Cotton or Holiday bowl, the Huskers will be blended in a 60 second spot with a dozen other bowls. The build up to a BCS game is worth millions in advertising alone (free to the University). Heck, does ESPN or whoever have to pay Nebraska to use them in advertising, I don't know
  25. I look at it this way... Some people say that in the Fiesta Bowl (NU vs. Undeserving team) the Huskers have nothing to gain, everything to lose. In a lesser bowl such as the Cotton or Holiday NU gets a much better opponent to impress the nation. My thought is, if Nebraska can't win the Big 12 against OU, OSU what makes us think they can beat a top tier SEC or Pac10 team to earn that respect? I would much rather win the Big12 and have the chance to make a an offensive/defensive "juggernaut" performance in a BCS bowl on primetime TV. Not only do we impress the nation, the BCS is one game closer to looking at its procedures. What would happen if NU played Boise State for the BCS title. Would anyone here say they would rather play Alabama in the Cotton Bowl because if Nebraska wins the MNC it doesn't mean much because Boise didn't deserve to be there? I'll go ahead and anser for you..... NO
