  1. just like everything in life, you aren't going to win them all.....but just today..... We all know thow great Reggie Smith (OU) is (OU-NU)....... How about Maclin for MU (think it was NU-MU) and didn't Ashlee Palmer decommit on signing day (left NU to Ol' Miss)...he lit a few guys up today.... I still think ***'s mean a little bit....... Yes, coaches need to develop, but certain guys are naturally great athletes.... just like the 3 mentioned above... I know that we have had guys that we "got" at the last minute, so this isn't a "feel sorry for ourself" topic, just interesting to see these guys play and just think "what if"....
  2. I thought he played well, but thought the flip was crap....... This kid has fought trouble the last 2 years, and still seems to be a little out of control.... It didn't even look like Coach Ball even said much to him about the 15 yards that cost his team the PAT....... if the weed issue is true, then we don't need nor want this kid....yes, I know all kids do illegal things....drink, drugs, etc ...., but if he is consistantly in trouble, it will probably continue........ I also heard Macovicka mention a younger and better brother....this would be the only reason to recruit Ronnell....to keep the Grixby pipeline going in hopes to sway younger brother.
  3. For everyone who wants Bo, this isn't very good news.... I would be okay with Bo, but right now, I really don't have a "clear cut" choice.... There are a lot of guys whom I could be happy with, but every one of those guys make me nervous... I am not sure there is a "can't miss" guy.... but back to the topic......If Miles leaves for Michigan, which appears to be a strong possibility.... One wouldthink that Bo would be 1st in line for the LSU job....considering they love his defense and he knows the kids, system, ect.... As of today, Bo is also probably 1st choice of Arkansas.....Bo is very familar with the SEC and Big 12, so he may have options....Wtih Arkansas and Michigan officially searching, if NU wants Bo, you would hope that the rumors of the "behind the curtain" deals are accurate, of Dr. Tom may wait a little long by giving everyone else a full week head start.
  4. I hope you guys are right, and my rumor was wrong........ I remember that guy who told me was our local radio announcer who covers Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska high school football games....... He told me this very late in the year, and he probably is full of sh!t......hope so... remember, I said it was "rumor".......if this kid is out there, and in good standing, I say we get him.....
  5. yeah........ I guess that is what I get for basing my decision on just "watching" him help Augurn win the title on tv last year...... At the time of that "post", I thought.....wow....wouldn't it be nice.....but, as the saying goes.....can't judge a book by it's cover...... Heck, that would suck to have such a "talent", but if he was detrimental to the team...... too bad for Auburn and for Troy........remember.....as I stated in the "post"..... the "dismissal" thing is a rumor, but I think the truth.... Can't explain....other than I "screwed" up my assessment.....but hey, that will happen about 20 more times just today alone
  6. My first Husker game was NU-OU.....when Mitch Krenk caught the "bounce" pass from Gill-Fryar-Krenk...... Nu held on to win ...when Billy Simms (I think) fumbled very late in the game at the NU 10 yd line....crowd stormed field...... I was about 12 years old, and attended with my grand-parents (NU fans) and their best friends from Oklahoma City (OU fans and season ticket holders)....... the tension in the car ride home was absolutely nuts....2 grown couples refusing to talk to each other for approx. 2-3 hours....awesome
  7. Wow, we had Lawrence Taylor ....... you meant Lawrence Phillips..... I know it was a typo....nothing personal.... See, I do think that the next decision he makes means a lot more to this program than any in the past....this program has slipped tremendously becuase of some of those past decisions, but if we indeed want to escape this cycle that we are about to embark in, then the next HC must be successful.... Our image is tarnished more than ever, and another 3-4 year cycle of less than stellar football and disgruntled fans certainly will not help.... If we get into this runt too deep, it may be a horribly long time before the "order is really re-stored"..... Folks, this next decision is BIG.....We need to win and win consistently for at least a 4-5 year period to get credibility back.... I understand that the glory days are in the past and the time of "domination" is long gone with parity, but we need to at least string 4-5 years of top 10 - 15 finishes together before we get out of this "national funk".....Face, if we struggle for another 3-4 years with the "wrong" hire, this time-tabel will be even longer than what we think..... OU was down 10 years....Gibbs, Schnellenberger, Blake.....before they came out of it with Stoops......are any of you willing to sacrifice another 6 years to reach the OU comparison....If not, you realize what I am talking about !!!!!!
  8. On a 'lighter" note, if you would put him in the middle of the field and let the defense tackle him one by one.....he would probably only get hit 5-6 times.....HA HA...... you know Ruud would be a step late, McKeon would whiff, etc...... just kidding.....bringing a little humor to a very serious situation.
  9. I hope they find the dumb sumbitch who would stoop to that and lock his ass up for a very long time......best fans....people like that make me friggin want to kick their a$$...... It's friggin football....a GAME, you freak..... Hell, I hate the JOB that Coz has done, but I don't hate the man...... some people just don't understand LIFE !!!
  10. This is not a discussion on whether or not a change needs to be made......that's a done deal, and even if it's not, I'm getting tired of same ol' topic... Instead.....Does anyone agree that the next 2-3 weeks, TO is going to make a decision that will ultimately be the most important one in the progarams history and future.... I have a real "uneasiness" about this whole situation... I just feel that our biggest fear 4 years ago is ultimately coming true...... "revolving door"....." Alabama"..... TO needs to make sure that this next coach, or same coach is someone who is going to not only turn this program around, understand the fan-base, but feels as if this coach will stick around..... Of course, I am not trying to tell TO his job, so for some of you guys looking for a reason to "attack" or "argue"....please don't waste yours or my time... My question I guess would be.... is anyone else very uneasy about the entire situation? TO retires, we all freak out....Frank takes the job (does fine....ok....), fired, Husker Nation a little divided on this..... BC comes in and Husker Nation still divided a bit..... 4 years later..... Most escorting BC to the door...... Now, if we don't get lucky like OU with Stoops (turns around program and stays)..... I am afraid that in 4-5 years, this may happen again....which is why I am uneasy , but realize the "enormity" of the decision about to be made... I trust TO, just uneasy feeling about what's happening...... (not firing BC, just teh progression the programs taken)
  11. Personally, I have said that I would like to have Watson stay on as OC and have Bo allow him to run this same offense....Keller's interview tonight confirmed how "lethal" this system can be.....Keep Watson, let him regain a few of the recruits and let Pelini be HC and bring Marvin Sanders in to run the defense.....I would be okay with that scenario......although I have supported Paul Johnson,......if we were to keep Watson, I would much rather that happen.
  12. As some of you fans may have also just watched..... I just watched a 15 minute live interview with Sam Keller on Big Red Wrap Up........ I don't care what kind of success he had or didn't have, he is a very class act and his interview made me proud of him.... As many of you know, I am a teacher/coach, and this guy just left an amazing impression on me. He was very supportive of Ganz and anwered questions honestly.....yes, he defended BC, but almost every player will defend their coach. He handled the injury and adversity with class...... Yes, Ganz has handled this offense the past two weeks with fantastic numbers and may be better in this offense, but anyone who "attacks" Sam Keller has no clue.... just on the sideline, he was jumping all over the place, cheering on his teammates......What a leader... Now I really hope this kid gets some form of opportunity in the NFL, at least a free agent.... Sam, I wish you luck and thank you for coming ot NU.
  13. enough of the coaching talk.....let's talk football..... What are NU's chances of beating CU at Boulder...... Outside of the OU victory (impressive), has CU proven anything? They did play KU very well at home too.....but ohter victories and losses appear to be about the same as us, with the exception being we mopped up KSU and beat ISU...but both at Lincoln. I am 50-50 on this one....looking for other's insight....I did hear that CU's defense is a little banged up....and wiht our offense stepping up a bit, might be a slight advantage....also heard on the radio that NU is ranked higher in most "football" categories, with the exception being rush defense. Not looking for this to be a "bash CU" thread, but a true "insight" on what may or may not happen... I think that we have a very good opportunity, but one good game doesn't do enough for my confidence in this team to think that we couldn't get blown away either.
  14. As the rest of you, I would have loved to hear why Bowman didn't play.......Now, I haven't broken down film, and only watched the game from my seat in South stadium, but I did watch Blue a lot...... I enjoy watching the "young" Huskers play...... I really didn't see anything "amazing" from him. Yes, he played pretty well for a freshman, but I have a very hard time believing that he was playing any better than Bowman....... If you watched any of the KSU "big plays", it was Blue that couldn't get-off of his block to make a tackle... the KSU wide-outs seem to dominate him once they locked up.....many times the people around me were yelling for holding, but in reality, Blue was just getting defeated badly by the block.... Not dissing Blue, I am excited for him and his future.....I love to see guys be possible 3-4 starters, but I don't think he played better than Bowman.... In addition, Bowman stayed an additional year instead of jumping to the NFL (yes, coming off of an injury), only to suffer another injury..... worked his a$$ off to return early for the TEAM and the coaches, voluntarily took his own blackshirt (only one man enough to do it), and really symbolized the "true Husker".....He should have kicked everyone else's a$$ for not followin suit.... And this is how BC treats him on Senior Day..... Do you think that his parents were here from Alaska? If so, it is a shame.
  15. knapplc......you didn't answer my question.....if TO names a coach who is not successful, how will Husker Nation react...... I am comparing AD to AD....... I don't need a reminder on what TO means to the Program....... TO walks on water to me, so I know were I am coming from......just want opinions on how will he be viewed if "his" coach is another Frank....then TO is 0-2.....
  16. Good post...... I stated something similar a few weeks ago, but didn't get much response...... I honeslty could live with the scenario you laid out..... Very good points on To and second chances..... I really believe that BC could have saved his own job by firing Coz' mid-way through the season..... If BC would have made that move, I think most fans would have given him the benefit of the doubt, knowing that he was willing ot make sacrifices for the betterment of the team... At this point, I believe it is too late... BC has far removed himself from the program and TO..... I am not exctied about firing a coach, nor do I look forwar to the possibility of "rebuilding" for another 3-4 years, nly to hold our breath to see if we go through all of this stuff again... To me, the writing is on the wall, and has been.....not by rumors, but by TO's actions....if he was honestly considering keeping BC, TO would not have let soem of the big -time recruits just "walk-away".....I know recruiting may be over-hyped in some of your opinions, but you just don't let a top 3 QB, top-teir RB and top-teir LB walk without making an effort....especially when 2 will end up at a rival school.... I agree wit your post and everything in it, but I just think that it's too late for this too happen.
  17. This is just something other than "coaching" speculation.....it is getting old.....so here it goes.. First, I love TO, named my son after him, and he is the reason I coach today.....now with that said, I am only putting this out here for debating sakes..... What if TO brings in a guy (Pelini, Gill, ?) and during the next 2-4 seasons, the guy struggles to get Nu back on tract? Will everyone line up to lynch TO like they did Pud? If TO really believes in the new coach, will Husker Nation have the patience to give the man 4-6 years, even if we aren't going to bowls and losing to Big 12 rivals..... I trust TO, and a change is needed, but my biggest fear as a life-long Husker is that NU is going to become a revolving door like Alabama...... Only if we could get lucky like OU did with Stoops....a guy who turned the program around and STAYED !!!!! Just wondering if TO catches a break if he choses an unsuccessful coach?
  18. I have a feeling that with everything surrounding the coaching staff and the inevitable changes, Lucky is as good as gone...... 1620 the zone interviewed Steve Sipple (LJS) and he said the odds are 75% chance that Lucky will leave after this season.... I really, really hope that he stays.....but can't balme a guy for not wanting to stay around and have to learn another system that may hamper his draft stock..... right now, he can pass block (improving every game), catch extremely well, and make things happen in space....... He definatley needs to get tougher inside or he will not survive in the NFL... IMO, he follows Brandon Jackson's lead and takes a leap.... Castille, Helu Jr., Glenn, and hopefully Collins Okafor can carry the load.
  19. Happy Birthday KC........ Have a good one bud...... HANC AND FAMILY..... and oh yeah, Mrs. HANC say's Go Broncos...... I know, she is completely out of line, especially on your birthday, but you know her....
  20. Had a hard time telling...... Whenever there was a stoppage of play...time-outs or injuries, the offensive skill guys seemed to huddle around Watson, but it seemed that 80% of the time, Ganz met BC 5 yds onto the field between each play........ unless, Watson was relaying the plays through BC, I would assume that BC was calling most of the offense.
  21. cmb23...... I disagree with the "hypothetical" thought that many of us would have voted NO about bowling prior to the KSU game........ Obviously, in order to go bowling, NU must beat KSU and CU......probably the 2 most "hated" current rivals of our program........ I would venture a guess, no matter how disgusted we all are at the season, no one would have said that they wanted NU to lose to either one of these two rivals.....meaning, yes, most of us would want this team to win out, thus becoming bowl eligible......once agian, anyone wanting anything less is not a die-hard fan....they are call "fair-weather" and band-wagon.....We all stick together in all kinds of weather (yes, piss poor seasons too.... NU fan for life) I do agree what a win can do for a fan base.....You are absolutely correct....but, I do say that I believe that most Husker fans are taking this win with a grain of salt....meaning, yes, the win was great, the possible bowl "eligibiltiy" is nice, but one win doesn't change the big picture....... changes will be made.
  22. Not positive, because I coach in Iowa, (very close to Neb.) so I keep tabs on Neb. High Schools, but someone told me that he got "kicked off" of the team this year at Auburn.... This is what I heard.....fact or fiction... I don't know....someone close to the situation will have to reply
  23. A very LOUD YES....on going bowling......... Makes zero sense for not wanting this team to go to a bowl.... 1st: Beating CU (along with KSU) takes a little of the sting out of a horrible season. 2nd: Remember, CU is on NATIONAL TV..... exposure, exposure, exposure....needs to be POSITIVE !!! (WIN) 3rd: Additonal practice time for the young guys..... not worried about "scheme" issues....just playing football 4th: Fire BC, interim coach takes over, hire new HC soon...... no questions left hanging * not sure if the right HC is hired, that they may come to NU immediately to begin recruiting and getting to know players....Yes, even if it is Pelini....wouldn't surprise me to see him step away from LSU (even in a BCS situation and NC) because that would show his commitment to NU.. 5th: Being on TV for the bowl is more exposure....exposure.....exposure 6th: If we go to a bottom tier bowl (only option), our opponent shouldn't be able to blow us up. * This team isn't "horrible".....get over the KU "image" and realize that they are GOOD !!! KU and MU in top 5-6 teams in country.....and we played them on the road...... USC....better than us.....no doubt.... Texas will be in top 15 and played them on the road....... A-M and OSU losses suck, because they aren't terrific and they were in Lincoln....... If we can beat CU, this team should deserve a chance to play in a bowl, and to say otherwise just doesn't make sense to me.
  24. I have mentioned Norton Jr. in about 5 threads and posts and even tried soliciting responses a couple of times..... I couldn't get anyone to reply...... I am with you all the way..... I think this guy would be a great DC, based on his experience with Pete Carroll, his NFL experience and "name"......carries cout with recruiting.....has been a winnereverywhere he has been.....
  25. Gotcha........ yes, I was mostly refering to him and his option offense..... Your correct... and the more I know about this guy, the more I want him to lead the Big Red...... He would be able to utilize the talent already here, and bring in a D-coord. to fix the black-shirts..
