  1. I am not sure that I would label anyone as the "least impact" player....... at this point, Harrison Beck and Josh Freeman were "no impact" 4-5 star guys and Stew Bradley was a huge impact 1-2 star guy.... Besides, this kid is an ATHLETE !!!!!! He was on a 4 x 400 relays that ran an insane time at the State Track Meet....you can't teach speed and competitiveness...... I have relatives that live in Crete and the word is that he may be the best athlete to come from Crete in many, many years...... He supposedly is a tremendous "hitter" as a DB.... the kid loves contact and plays QB because of his athleticism... Welcome aboard John....we will just have to wait and see if his is a high or low impact player....but I am going to guess that an in-state kid who has grown up a Husker, and has his type of athletic ability, will work his a$$ off and will be a player before all is said and done....
  2. Just like most of you, my entire basement is a Husker shrine...... I have spent all 38 years of my life traveling to many, many places following the Big Red, and have spent a small fortune collecting memorabilia......... My most prized possession is a signed letter from Coach Tom Osborne wishing my wife and I a happy marriage Yes, I proposed to my wife at Memorial stadium, under the bleachers at a fall practice, and yes, invited TO to come to the wedding....... this is the absolute truth.... on the DAY of our wedding rehearsal, we received a "congratulations" letter from TO and he thanked us for inviting him..... (yes, I know that his secretary probably wrote it and stamped his name ) , but I show it off to everyone who enters the "shrine".
  3. I agree with all of you that are saying "cut him loose"..... At this point BC has no option but to send him packing...... it's all over ESPN radio.... NU needs to re-establish a little National respect, and unfortunately, it starts with handling this the right way !!!! Steve Ryan (Big Red Report) said earlier today on 590 that he felt that Mo was going to get at least a 5-6 suspension with the possibility that he may be cut loose.... He also stated that he felt that Mo is the difference of 2 wins..... Steve Ryan thought that NU would lose 2 more games if they cut Mo......not my opinion , just sharing what an "insider" believes.... IMO, I say that the two additional losses are the price that NU HAS to pay to handle this the right way.... to be arrested TWICE in a 5 week span is totally assinine...... Farewell Mo..... whom, under the new NFL commish, may have really hurt his future football career !!! dumbass..... oh yeah, I forgot, he is an honor student, so he probably has a lot to fall back on....
  4. First and foremost, NO, you do NOT fire Anderson...... no debate..... But, some of the "off the field" problems do "Reflect" on the program and head coach (comes with the territory).... And, I have said all along, that NU hired the wrong HC when they picked Anderson over Childress, and yes, I predicted that Childress would and will be more successful than Anderson..... It is still way too early to see if that prediction is correct or not, but we will see over the next few seasons... IMO, Childress was the master-mind to NU success all along, even with Van Horn... You do not fire Anderson, but honestly, he hasn't impressed me much..... He won early, with Van Horn's player's...... his team fell apart last year and really really struggled this season....this is not a very good baseball team ..... You do not fire him, but the word "hot-seat" may sneak into our vocabulary as we enter the next two season's.
  5. KSU no doubt, with ISU a close 2nd...... living in Iowa, I hate those guys
  6. I watched this clip, and was wondering where are the clips from the Schnellenberger, Gibbs, and Blake era Just kiddin'... Being 38 years old and the world's biggest NU fan, I grew up watching most of those plays and players...... At the time, I hated OU, but at the SAME time, I respected OU.... Now that I am a football coach, and know more about the game than when I was a youngster, I truly respect the OU tradition and the NU-OU rivalry....... Some of those hits are awesome....... Good clip, thanks for sharing, but NU rules !!!!!!! Go Big Red
  7. Lucky appears to be the popular choice, and I don't disagree, but for conversation sake, I am going to throw 2 more names at you.... 1. Suh.....he will be all-big 12... and we are already trying to replace all of the front four...the loss of him would be devestating to the d-line, until some of these juco guys prove something. 2. Bowman.... I know he is already probably lost, but with our cb play last year, I have no confidence that it will improve without ZB...... Grixby can be a great technician, but his size is the issue..... Murrillo needs to show something....
  8. I agree...... I wasn't trying to pin blame on any of the coaches that Lucky got hurt..... I was just suggesting a different way to run the scrimmage that would allow the top untis a chance to work together, and a chance for the 1's to play the 1's and trying to get the main guys rest at the end of the game....... It was not a "bad" decision by the coaches to leave Lucky in....they really had no options, and it was NO ONES fault that the injury occured...... good points, and debate

    QB battle

Okay......we might as well begin this long awaited and much discussed topic..... time to "sound-off" as that dick-head Travis Justice would say..... Here is my take....not right or wrong....jsut my take. Keller is the solid #1....and has been in BC's mind since day 1..... BC has to give Ganz a complete look because of his knowledge and dedication to the team.....Now, GAnz is a very good player...do not mistake that for an instance, but Keller is the NFL typ of QB that makes a WCO guy drool....... Unfortunatley, I see Ganz as the Matt Turman of the 2008 season..... he will be very reliable and capable if Sam goes down, but will only get his chances if mop-up or emergency. Furthermore, if Zach Lee is everything some of you guys are reporting OR if the rumor mill about Patrick Witt is accurate.....poor Joe may be a career Matt Turman.... I LIKE JOE GANZ.....I am just telling it like I see it...
  10. Chuckd.......... I understand your point.....but as a coach, I try to protect my obvious starters (must have guys)....ie.....qb's wearing green jerseys........ IMO, after the offense has 8 series in the 1st half alone, and another 4 in the 3rd period..... I think that they have had enough PRACTICE for one session..... If you have watched many football practices, most are "controlled"....meaning that quick whistles, no cut/chop blocks..... in a game such as the spring game, late (4th qtr).... especially after only 15 practices, guys start getting a little tired....sloppy..... and add in the fact that the young guys are still playing for their 15 seconds of fame..... the RISK of injury increases dramatically........so yes, as a coach, late in a spring PRACTICE, I make sure that my ONLY RB is safe...... Yes injuries happen at any point (moving tv's )....... and yes, I expect all of my players to practice a FULL practice at the intensity determined for the practices, but in this situation, I will gaurantee you that if BC would of had a "full stable" of running backs, Lucky would not have seen the field in the 4th...... so my idea , as stated above has not changed as far as using the 4th period for young backups....especially if you go 1's vs 1's in the 3rd....
  11. Not sticking up for ESPN, because I f'n hate them..... and not trying to be a "downer".......but I wonder if the QB's at other schools were playing against their 1st team defense or playing against back-ups like NU did?? Just an honest question...... personally, I think NU should go 1's vs 2's for the 1st half...... timing and continuity are extrememly important..... but it would be nice to see a "running clock" third qtr., when 1's face 1's....... Let's see Ganz and Keller face Suh and Co......or let's see this "improved" line vs Suh...... and come the 4th qtr...get the starters OUT !!!!!
  12. ADd to the fact that he also threw in a lot of "abbreviations"....... "1st down due to DPI".....defensive Pass Interference " Thenarse in there for the TFL".....tackle for loss This is okay for guys/gals who understand football terminology, and are listening closely to the actions, but maybe for the common fan, this is a little bit "too much"
  13. I absolutely agree.....I am not "predicting" that Castille will fill this role, I am just saying that if BC thinks he can, then Culbert is back to DB

    Royals

Hey, this is kind of a message for my buddy KChusker........ I just saw that coming up soon, during a homestand, the Royals are going to hand out " Royal fleece blankets" to the first 20,000 fans that come to the game........ Just wanted to know if you could go pick me up a few??? I am sure that once the enitre crowd arrives, they should have around 12,000 blankets left over ..... if you could nab me a few, I would like to hand them out as Christmas gifts, along with a "jelly of the month" coupon. Okay.....don't get fired up....just joking..... Go Cubs !!!!!!!!
  15. The key to this argument is how well will Castille fit into the mix and how SOON !! IMO, if Castille comes in and is ready to see action as a "capable back-up" in emergency situations (Lucky-Glenn) both down with injury....then I see Culbert back on defense this fall..... Just because they move him back to D in the fall, doesn't mean that he can't make an emergency switch to RB if necessary.... IMO, the coaches are developing a great ATHLETE into a "multi-position" player, that they can move around to fill voids in emergency situations.... He will go back to D if Castille proves he can play......
  16. I believe the same as Overland...... GAnz will probably start with the Red, considering the time he has put into the program......Keller will get an opportunity to run the Red offense in the 2nd half.....just my thought... Witt and Davis will both get a number of snaps.....
  17. Forecast from Omaha Station tonight at 6:00 was high of 40 degress with a chance of a lot of rain/snow on Friday.......not the best recruiting weather if we are bringing kids in from warm weather climates....also, if it is shi++y as is sounds, the 75,000 will be only around 40,000 and will not "wow" recruits like a 70 degree day with 70,000 people.... I f*@King hate mid-western weather !!!!!
  18. Wow...... at the risk of sounding too "emotionally philosophic".....this was a touching video.... I am a teacher, and have been for 14 years...... I coach football and many other sports.... I do understand the type of impact teachers have on any and everyone of the students that they come in contact with......this video is a great example of just one story of this magnitude..... thank you for sharing.....
  19. Once again, you have heard my "song and dance" about this before, but IMO, Potter will be a bust at NU... Big kid, successful at HS because of size......NU took him because of "in-state" talent that BC needed for PR.... horrible, cocky attitude, seems to be a little bit of a "me" instead of "team"....... and Allen will win the position outright, causing Potter to finish his career at UNO or UNI.
  20. I agree with gamecocks....Green has the experience at Corner and we need him for depth and size...... Right on target with Culbert and Thenarse... Just my opinion, but as I have said in many, many posts, I don't claim to know more than the staff....so I will trust their decision making skills..
  21. guys, I hope that I am dead wrong, but don't expect to see Bowman anytime soon, and very, very possibly ever again...unless there is a medical hardship case... As a coach, I have seen this injury before...in fact, a player this past fall ruptured PT, and still is not at full speed...granted, he is not the athlete of ZB, nor do we have the 24 - 7 trainer at beck and call, but don't get your hopes up. Today on 1620 the zone, the hosts talked to "several" (4-6) doctors and/or atheltice trainers, and only 1, yes 1, said 4-6 months was possible....the rest said that 4-6 was very optimistic, and seemed a little over agressive....everyone says that the PT is the power tendon, becuase all the motion of the quad has to travel across the tendon...... many Dr./AT's said today that it usually takes a full year before the athlete is 100%.. I truly hope that I am wrong, but the luck that this kid has had, makes me a little bit nervous.... and, at what point do you start putting ZB ahead of the team....this was a guy, who was set to go pro, to avoid another injury, and was "persuaded" by people on the inside to come back... one of the people being Coach Kennedy......not saying this was wrong, because it was absolutely correct....barring a freak thing like this.. but, if ZB can come back in the middle of the conference schedule, and has been shut - down for over a year and 1/2, ....1st, can he really be completely ready, and 2nd, is it in his best interest to totally rehab. and take a shot at the combine, instead of risking another , probable career ending tear.... the poor kid would be done before he even got a pay check....
  22. This is why, many, many times on this board, I have asked if ANYONE has any insight on Potter....it seems like most of us have/had him listed as the guy to take over for Carriker..... I just dont' buy it, or see it happening... Just my personal opinion... Outside of making an impact on special teams (absolutely, extrememly important impact).... I just haven't seen or heard enough about him to just "assume" that he will be next in line..... My gut feeling is that he will be a guy we all will consider a "bust" in a few years.....probably will not start, be disgruntled, and and will transfer to UNO to finish his "over-hyped potential" career.... Hope I am wrong, and he is all-big 12 !!!!! Go Big Red
  23. Yes, he is from Boston, and is the world's biggest Red Sox fan, but his last gig before coming to Omaha was in Alabama I believe, or somewhere in the SEC country.... I know he wasn't born there...but he is always referring to SEC..... I actually do believe some of the stuff he says, but he is not a "smart" talk show host...he spouts a lot of "wrong" info., and then will defend himself, without even realizing that he is completely wrong..
  24. I am the world's biggest husker fan (aren't we all), but I also am not afraid to tell it "like it is".....in other words, I don't wear the perverbial "big red blinders", but i will say that Matt Perault is a complete dumbass from the hicks of SEC country.....He thinks he knows it all, when he absolutely doesn't know sh!t......I am not saying this because he occassionally bashes NU...but the fact is, most of us know more about sports than this idiot....I have called him a few times to set the record straight... Hell, Kugler and Severe, especially Severe bash the Huskers often also, but at least they don't come across arrogant and they are informed....Heck, Kugler even works nationally for westwood one radio...he was doing live broadcasts of the great 8......these guys are good and pretty humorous....don't waste your time with 590 am.
  25. I live in Southwest Iowa, and listen to Omaha radio....from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm there is a talk show called "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" on 1620 am.......During the football season, NU football seems to be the most talked about topic, but they do talk about other "sports".... It is fairly enjoyable to listen to......After that, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm , 1110 am has a husker talk show.... I don't get much of a chance to listen to it, but I know that during football season, it is almost all husker football....year -round on whatever sport is in season.
