  1. Once again, you have heard my "song and dance" about this before, but IMO, Potter will be a bust at NU... Big kid, successful at HS because of size......NU took him because of "in-state" talent that BC needed for PR.... horrible, cocky attitude, seems to be a little bit of a "me" instead of "team"....... and Allen will win the position outright, causing Potter to finish his career at UNO or UNI.
  2. I agree with gamecocks....Green has the experience at Corner and we need him for depth and size...... Right on target with Culbert and Thenarse... Just my opinion, but as I have said in many, many posts, I don't claim to know more than the staff....so I will trust their decision making skills..
  3. guys, I hope that I am dead wrong, but don't expect to see Bowman anytime soon, and very, very possibly ever again...unless there is a medical hardship case... As a coach, I have seen this injury before...in fact, a player this past fall ruptured PT, and still is not at full speed...granted, he is not the athlete of ZB, nor do we have the 24 - 7 trainer at beck and call, but don't get your hopes up. Today on 1620 the zone, the hosts talked to "several" (4-6) doctors and/or atheltice trainers, and only 1, yes 1, said 4-6 months was possible....the rest said that 4-6 was very optimistic, and seemed a little over agressive....everyone says that the PT is the power tendon, becuase all the motion of the quad has to travel across the tendon...... many Dr./AT's said today that it usually takes a full year before the athlete is 100%.. I truly hope that I am wrong, but the luck that this kid has had, makes me a little bit nervous.... and, at what point do you start putting ZB ahead of the team....this was a guy, who was set to go pro, to avoid another injury, and was "persuaded" by people on the inside to come back... one of the people being Coach Kennedy......not saying this was wrong, because it was absolutely correct....barring a freak thing like this.. but, if ZB can come back in the middle of the conference schedule, and has been shut - down for over a year and 1/2, ....1st, can he really be completely ready, and 2nd, is it in his best interest to totally rehab. and take a shot at the combine, instead of risking another , probable career ending tear.... the poor kid would be done before he even got a pay check....
  4. This is why, many, many times on this board, I have asked if ANYONE has any insight on Potter....it seems like most of us have/had him listed as the guy to take over for Carriker..... I just dont' buy it, or see it happening... Just my personal opinion... Outside of making an impact on special teams (absolutely, extrememly important impact).... I just haven't seen or heard enough about him to just "assume" that he will be next in line..... My gut feeling is that he will be a guy we all will consider a "bust" in a few years.....probably will not start, be disgruntled, and and will transfer to UNO to finish his "over-hyped potential" career.... Hope I am wrong, and he is all-big 12 !!!!! Go Big Red
  5. Yes, he is from Boston, and is the world's biggest Red Sox fan, but his last gig before coming to Omaha was in Alabama I believe, or somewhere in the SEC country.... I know he wasn't born there...but he is always referring to SEC..... I actually do believe some of the stuff he says, but he is not a "smart" talk show host...he spouts a lot of "wrong" info., and then will defend himself, without even realizing that he is completely wrong..
  6. I am the world's biggest husker fan (aren't we all), but I also am not afraid to tell it "like it is".....in other words, I don't wear the perverbial "big red blinders", but i will say that Matt Perault is a complete dumbass from the hicks of SEC country.....He thinks he knows it all, when he absolutely doesn't know sh!t......I am not saying this because he occassionally bashes NU...but the fact is, most of us know more about sports than this idiot....I have called him a few times to set the record straight... Hell, Kugler and Severe, especially Severe bash the Huskers often also, but at least they don't come across arrogant and they are informed....Heck, Kugler even works nationally for westwood one radio...he was doing live broadcasts of the great 8......these guys are good and pretty humorous....don't waste your time with 590 am.
  7. I live in Southwest Iowa, and listen to Omaha radio....from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm there is a talk show called "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" on 1620 am.......During the football season, NU football seems to be the most talked about topic, but they do talk about other "sports".... It is fairly enjoyable to listen to......After that, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm , 1110 am has a husker talk show.... I don't get much of a chance to listen to it, but I know that during football season, it is almost all husker football....year -round on whatever sport is in season.
  8. Call me a skeptic, but I DON'T BUY IT !!!! 1. He has had issues at NU....left team for a while after BC's 1st year 2. Lacks control....loses his head once in a while 3. HOLDS way too much........draws many flags 4. I am not confident that he is nearly good enough to make an impact in the NFL I am very proud of him for not dragging NU through the mud......if he is leaving NU because of any ohter reason, he left with a LOT OF CLASS, and as a fan, I really appreciate that....So, Good Luck to Chris.. I am just not sold that everything was "great" for him here !!!!
  9. I agree with 316......I gave them a B, but that was a little painful, because of the losses to ISU at home and the road losses to lowly Baylor and Colorado..... We did have a great home game vs Texas that got away from us, and a great win at Tech and wins over KSU.... I agree, no way would I have predicted 17 wins coming into the year...and with the defections and the suspension of White, I think Doc did a great job of getting the most out of what he had....this is NOT A VERY TALENTED TEAM in comparison to the upper teir of the Big 12.... Based on all of that, I rounded up to a B instead of a C..... Look forward to next season......that is something I am not sure I ever said when Collier was here.... Good Luck Huskers and Doc !!!!1
  10. Awsome response to the thread......... it is cool to see so many different names pop up....naturally, from the pre-BC era......I honestly can't argue the greatness of any of the names, and the reasons you all have listed as why they are your favorites.... The current or BC era will be interesting to watch.....
  11. We have all hashed out the DB's......and I know that we have talked about the DE's... But, refresh my memory.....who will start DE.. Potter and Turner ??? I asked a while back how Potter was doing, and no one was able to give me an answer.... Has anyone heard, is he going to develop into a good/great DE or is he just being given a lot of attention due to his special teams play as a freshman?
  12. Troy is originally from the New Orleans area....his family was displaced by katrina....ended up in Auburn last year.....man, would I love to have stud land in my lap like that....He drastically helped Auburn win the State title in class B last season... I watched the championship game, and he is a stud.. I was recently at Auburn HS for a j. high wrestling meet (last week) and talked to their HC and Assis.Coach...they said Troy had 4 D-I schools already make contact....didn't mention who.. I don't think NU will offer because of WR depth and youth... If Troy was still listed as a NO kid instead of NE kid, he may be getting A LOT MORE ATTENTION.....midwest stereo-typing on skill positions..
  13. Here is the deal...... a few weeks ago, we actually had a slim chance to play in the NCAA.....if we would have beaten Baylor, MU, ISU,CU, and OSU....we would have had 19-20 wins, plus a possible win or two in the big 12... I felt like the NIT was a lock....but now, this team probably doesn't deserve an NIT....you CAN'T LOSE TO BAYLOR, GET SWEPT BY ISU, AND LOSE TO CU if you want to participate in post-season, even in the NIT.. I understand the officiating was horrible today...I had to listen to it....but damn it, you have to beat the bottom feeders......unless, yes, WE ARE ONE OF THE BOTTOM FEEDERS.... I am pissed.. Now, we just have to give Doc time to build.....it is just frustrating to be in position to do something good, and let it slide so deeply the wrong way.
  14. Okay, I know that we have had this opinion thread many times, but it is fun and I am bored, stuck at home in the snow for the 3rd consecutive day..... I want to know who is your all-time FAVORITE, not the best.. Offensive Player, Defensive Player......... and to make it interesting (current and historical), I want to know pre- Callahan and during Callahan era... LIMIT 1 PLAYER ON OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.....NO NAMING 2-3.....GET OFF OF THE FENCE Here are mine: Pre-BC offense: Tommie Frazier...no contest Pre-BC defense: Mike Brown BC era offense: Zac Taylor BC era defense: Barry Turner * remember, this is your favorite, so there is no right or wrong, but I am sure that we will all find a way to turn this into a debate some how or another
  15. I was looking at a Steeler's message board, and a couple of threads had other Steeler fans saying that they would like Carriker.....I honestly think that it is a possibility... The Steelers new coach would like to run a 4-3, which is why they felt releasing Porter wasn't a horrible idea (although I am pissed as hell)...... Obviously, Carriker can play that 4-3 DE and can also slid down to DT if needed in the same scheme.... A few mock drafts have the Steelers going defense, either CB or DE.... if Carriker is available, I bet they take a GOOD look !!!
  16. He will be playing RB......did anyone see that Glanville is now a HC at a small college....wasn't he the DC at Hawaii.. Hell, I bet LJ is watching the flippin' weather that we have had in the last 7 days, and is sitting in the sand studying RB pays, gettin' a chub watchin' the bikinis, laughing the whole time.
  17. My wife is a huge Broncos fan, and she would love nothing more than to have AC go to Denver......partly, because she wants to see KC husker's reaction if Carriker wears blue and orange... Personally, the Steelers would be a nice fit...seriously....when they let Von Olhaufen (sp) walk last year, that really took a lot from their D-line pressure....
  18. I have no info on Patrick, but his time here at NU has been iffy at best....remember, he almost left early and had to be talked back to Lincoln.... I am still pissed at him for the holding call in last years Alamo Bowl that took a TD off of the board :angry He seems to be very "edgy" so the whole roid SPECULATION wouldn't be a huge surprise......but I hope that whatever the problem may be, can be fixed with a suspension or something non-permanent... I think Murtha is a HUGE liability...he hasn't panned out at ALL...... On 1620 the Zone today, Mike 'l Severe said " Asking Murtha to protect Keller's back is as likely as Lee Harvey Oswald protecting the back of JFK head"..... LMAO..
  19. Thanks for the pictures BorNred....I haven't been able to access the internet for a few days....so this was my 1st look..... I do like the look of your Huskers tat... I appreciate the info. One of these days, I'll drag my skinny a$$ to an artist and just DO IT.
  20. Sorry I haven't been on for a couple of days.....internet service, what a great thing Absolutely......we lost our center....and he was good at the medium snaps (shot gun)....he missed 4 games this season, and when he was down, we scrambled, becuase we did run about 40% shot-gun this season... we even had to shuffle our TE to C....2 minutes prior to kickoff when our C dislocated his knee cap in warm ups.. C will be the biggest question mark entering the season.... By the way....I ahve noticed that some of you guys coach Pop Warner or some form of "youth" football.... Speaking as a High School football coach, I want to say "Thank you" and that I truly admire each of you...The early "learning" stage is the most important, yet the must frustrating to coach... I personally have a great deal of admiration for anyone who coaches football at that level..... I am still considering this "spread" system for next season....but developing a C who can get the QB the ball is obviously the thing we must develop this spring !!!!
  21. Arms are probably too skinny......only go shirtless when we are in the boat.......calf is where I originally going to go...... The N with Huskers signia across it is the route on the calf that I would do...
  22. Man, I have wanted a inked forever...my wife is in total favor of it.... I will only get a husker tatoo.... I figure, other than my children, it is the best thing to be marked with forever.... I am a real skinny, red-headed light skinned person, so I need to be careful where to get one....my damn shoulders are almost too damn skinny and I thought the lower calf thing was a little bit much for a guy....but someone could convince me otherwise.... so my only solution was on my upper back between my shoulder blades, but then I can't see the damn thing.... also, as a teacher, I would like to cover it up whenever I feel necessary, so arms are kind of out anyway.. Thinking of have HUSKERS written with the barbed wire look between shoulder baldes would be cool.
  23. Blackshirtsguru.....couldn't agree more..... been doin' it since '92 and love every minute of it.....hectic at times, dealing with parents and player issues, but I'll never do anything else but teach and coach.. KC... unless Natural light has a huge sale at the local Super Walmart , I'll never be able to afford you but, have your agent call mine, and we'll see what can be worked out...
  24. We lost our top WR to graduation....he is going to Simpson College to play..... We will be breaking in a young group of WR... I do believe that we have one of the better IB in the area....not big, but very quick (4.5) for a small school and sees the field extrememly well..... he led us in rushing this year, and will be a senior next season... Because we are going to be replacing so many starters, inlcuding all but one on the LOS, I am thinking about moving our FB (6'0 235) to the LOS.....leaving another young, small, quick RB to take his place.. Instead of running the traditional I- formation, I am considering running a version of West Virginia offense... Our QB is a big, hard runner..... our IB is a very good "scat-back"....thinking about going shot-gun 1 back with our other young Rb as a Wing...... trying to run read options, shovel passes, powers, draws, etc. with one back and strong QB.. This is a complete change of the system in place, but we may have to change to fit personnel....Good or bad idea ???? I am "teetering" back and forth...
  25. Probably somewhere in the area of 4.8 ..... he is a State discus thrower, all-SWI baseball player, and an all-SWI basketball player....probably going to UNO to play baseball/basketball....speed is just not an asset. Smart, runs hard, throws the ball very well, strong, and is natural leader....just need him a step quicker to be a complete stud on the football field... Another topic.....We have really seem to struggle with our pass protection over the years... Now, we have had a good run as far as our 10 year win/loss record is concerned, so we have a decent program...but pass blocking has struggled..... I was watching some NFL film, and saw that the Colts use a "stretch pass blocking" scheme.....where the O-line actually pursues down the line 2-3 steps, QB rolls, and then O-line sets up to pass block....great scheme.....really hinders LB and DB who are trying to read the blocking scheme... Of course, this is the Super Bowl Champs...... Is a scheme like this too difficult to pull into a small high school football team or not..... I am really thinking about this...any opinions.
