  1. Okay..... this question sucks Tommie may be my all time favorite Husker.... He was a leader... He absolutely amazed people. Tommie has 2 NC and played very well in another .... He set a new standard for all qb's to follow (among "duel threat") Vince was amazing last night. I am still in awe.. You just knew that on that last play, he wasn't going to let the ball leave his hands. He does have better poise in the pocket and is a better passer... He is so strong as runner ( as was Tommie). Both of these guys finished runner-up in the Heisman, and then turned around and out performed the winner.... Tommie deserved the Heisman. He was better than George, but regardless of last night, Bush deserved the Heisman over Young. I really hope Young goes pro. , but I think he will come back and not only win the Heisman, but probably will have Texas in the NC game again... Okay.....this question sucks I refuse to pick against Tommie..... my favorite (but, damn, Young is a stud)

    note to ESPN

ESPN sucks !!!!!! They will not admit they were worng on this whoele USC garbage... Good for Texas for shutting these guys up !!!! The way Young "ran" all over them, just think what Tommie and Lawrence would have done..... Herbstreit may want to rethink that prediction... As for USC and Texas, they are BY FAR the two best teams in America.... what a game !!!! I sure hope that LenDale White, some of the O-line, and a few of the def players dart for the draft..... If not, I would be very concerned with NU's trip to Cally next year... AND, if Young stays, "ouch !!!" I bleed Husker red more than any other fan, but I also see reality.... Both of these teams are FAR more superior than NU right now..... if not many underclassmen leave, I really think we will be overmatched in these 2 games.... still expect a very good season and Big 12 north title.... I am still amazed at Young.... One of the best single game performances of all time... a lot like Frazier in the NC game vs Florida.... YOung is a stud !!!!!
  3. I have said from day 1 that I am not a complete BC supporter..... but "not so fast my friend"...... I have really begun to change my mind !!!!! This year, BC has shown a very deep compassion for NU football... He has gone to bat for his team (sometime too much)..... He seems to really care about these kids and the program. An example would be his "teary eyed" interview after the CU game. I was at the Alamo Bowl, and his excitement after the game was geniune. He stressed how proud of his players, and he exclaimed once agian, that NU has the best football fans ever.... I honestly do not believe that he would want to leave this situation "AT THIS TIME". 1620 the zone just reported that BC name has not surfaced in Minnesota as reported, and that he is not on Mortensen's top 20 available list (ESPN) ** I have also said on other threads, that I do expect BC to be back in the NFL before long.... As soon as he "rebuilds" this program with a North Championship and / or a Big 12 title.... When this happens, offers will come, and he will have a hard time turning them down..... ex. Kirk Ferentz is starting to listen.... NFL $$$ talks too loudly to not listen.
  4. Too many in this game to just pick one..... I would have to say Ross' 30 yd run that brought NU within 1 score
  5. I agree.... the fact that Michigan and Ohio State and ND get big time recruits should void the "cold weather" excuse....... Hell, how did we land Tommie, LP, Bullocks, etc...... WE WERE WINNING AND FINISHING HIGH IN THE POLLS With that said, the cold weather is definatley a factor though..... it makes it twice as difficult to recruit if you are not winning..... Losing and cold weather is almost impossible to consistently recruit top notch players. Damn, I have spent my entire life here..... went to San Antonio for 4 days, and when we got back, the cold weather sucked... that was only after 4 freakin days.... I can't imagine a player who grew up in a warm climate.... hell, most of the time, I don't want to be here in the winter. WINNING will over-ride the weather....
  6. I agree with most of your list.... You state 8 seniors on def. next year, but if Octavian gets a med., only 7 are listed according to your list..... The D looks loaded, because it doesn't take into account Green, Ruud, Turner, possibly Wali Muhammed.... and the incoming Palmer.... I look for Leon Jackson to stay on offense.... On offense, don't forget about Murtha..... He and Patrick battled, and Lydon has said that he hates it if he doesn't start....look for him to really work hard. Also, look for Brooks to make an impact next season.... He has a super build and should excel next year.... also, Mo Purify (not here in spring I believe) could make immediate impact.... I love Swift, Nunn, but won't be surprised if their PT doesn't drop off next year.
  7. this thread has kind of turned into a 2 part question/answer... 1st question: is North weak..... IMO, I think the North and the Big 12 is showing well.... the guys on ESPN can kiss my a$$.... I really hope that tech and TU win, so the Big 12 can win the bowl challenge..... ISU lost, but only becuase Meyer couldn't handle the ball..... and I will catch crap for this, but I picked CU to win...... I know the stats were very lopsided, but remember, Klatt makes a difference !!!! With Klatt on the field, and without the off the field stuff, CU beats Clemson.... 2nd Question: rank North teams for 2006.....based on recent showings IMO: NU - ISU * this is a toss up.... ISU has 10 starters on Offense and their best best 2 d-line players back (Berryman-Curvey)..plus game is at ISU NU will be a much improved team.....this will be for the North MU Lose Smith, but a lot of starters back.... Pinkel still coach, enough said KU Offense returns, but lose a ton on D....plus, play at NU, ISU CU Have talent, and Hawkins can coach !! KSU It is a mess, plus I hate those bastards.....
  8. I agree with the initial post..... #1 = Taylor.... he DEFINATELY SAVED THIS PROGRAM #2 = McKeon.... he is the spark we needed on the d-side of field #3 = Ross..... a true class act and leader Honorable Mention = Young WR core of Swift, Nunn, Peterson Young O-line who seemed to not "give-up" BC deserves to be menitoned too..... I know he is not a player, but he refused to let this team believe the criticism that was being spewed, especially in October.. I have stated many times that I am not a die-hard BC supporter, but I am starting to come around.... He seems to really care about his guys..... He was definatley classy at the post-game celebration..... thanked Alamo people, proud of players, thanked fans.....
  9. I think that NU deserves to be somewhere between 20 - 23..... But, I am concerned that we will not be ranked..... Actually, OU winning hurt our chances.... OU will remain ahead of us (which is logical and fair).... they will slide into the top 25.... Only 2 ranked teams have lost so far..... opening those 2 spots.... OU will take one..... If Iowa happens to lose, that would help, but if they beat Florida, they stay ahead of NU..... If a few teams ahead of us, especially lower ranked teams, then we definately move in, but unless teams lose, the media will NOT jump us over anyone who won... WE DESERVE A TOP 25 RANKING, but as history goes, poeple like to keep NU down.... Oh well, we need to take care of business and not give the pollsters a choice.
  10. With all due respect, at this point, this is an assinine topic..... I sure hope it was posted for "converation" purposes ONLY..... (that I would understand and appreciate) But..... if ANYONE is truly questioning who the QB of this team is, is only looking for controversy..... Taylor is the man.... this is his team, bar none...... Beck is talented, and his time will come..... He could very well be a better qb, but he will have 2 years to lead this team... I really repsect beck for his loyalty and being a "team-player"..... I love this young kid (that didn't sound right ) How can anyone question Taylor....to do so, is a slap in the face.... without Taylor, this team would have been home for the Holidays instead of beating a UM team, that was ranked as high as #3..... Taylor is a tough guy, who, when given time, can be very productive.... He is not fast, but runs effectively when needed... Taylor is #1, and unless he gets hurt, this is his team.... Beck will be solid #2 and may at one time in spring/fall practice be listed "co-#1" just for motivational purposes....
  11. I have missed this board for the last 4 days....... KC husker and I just returned from San Antonio..... This was an awesome experience...... I have attended many, many road trip games over the last 20 some years, including many bowl games and NC games..... This trip was near the top of the list..... I still can not speak because of my voice being gone..... NU had amazing fan support (not surprised) NU definately showed that this university has the best tradition and fan support ....bar none Our guys outplayed UM, and our fans out-matched UM.... I want to hear from some of the UM fans who were taking smack before this game...... Hell, their fans didn't even stick around after the game..... We still have a lot of work to do, but this program is headed in the right direction.....
  12. Mark May is a complete idiot..... Not becuase of his UM-NU predictions, but just because he is an idiot.... It is no wonder Trev wanted out of that place.......
  13. Hope everyone has a Happy and safe Holidays..... Can't wait to see what '06 has instore for the Big Red... Merry Christmas Huskerboard members !!!
  14. He is a big time recruit, and we lost him....... not the end of the world... I remeber being disappointed when Odell James didn't come to town, or when Curt Dukes left......oops..... how did they pan out ??? He probably will be very good, but he'll meet a "fire-storm" when he arrives in Lincoln 2 yrs. from now..... And hell, text message..... did he think he was breaking up with his girlfriend This shows the maturity and integrity of this guy..... maybe not a "born-leader" that a qb should be? I don't blame KSU..... it is Prince's job to get recruits (can't fault a guy for doing his job).... I definatley don't blame BC..... He was bieng honest with the kid, when he told him that Freeman would enjoy the next "5 1/2 years" at NU...... thus meaning a "redhirt" was a probability...... BC is being honest, not promising things he can't deliver....
  15. I am bummed that Bo is hurt.... I for one, didn't think that he played extremely well most of the season.... the last 2 games, he played very well.... Brandenburgh will be fine....he was pissed this season that he didn't get a "fair-shake" at LB in his opinion.... remember, he was listed co-#1 most of srping and into the fall....an injury really slowed him early and never got a chance during season..... this will give him an opportunity to show his stuff... Possibly move Corey to OLB, and shove Dillard in middle.... I bet you will see a little of both situations. As stated above, look to see a BUNCH of Barry Turner in this game.... he will play DE and LB...this kid is a stud...... He will be an all-american before he leaves.
  16. A disappointing end to a great season !!!! It looked as if NU wasn't able to handle the pressure of the title game. NU played one of the sloppiest games that I have seen in many seasons... It is hard to tell if they looked bad because UW was THAT GOOD, or the NU just didn't play... Probably a little of both..... If we say that NU just didn't show up, it would be suggesting that UW didn't really "earn" the win (a lot like the UM guys on football)... IMO, the girls "choked" a little bit (by definition, they did choke, big time), but I refuse to be negative about the game...... UW had 5 seniors who were in the final 4 last yr., and we only had 2 on the team.... Next year, NU will probably be the odds on favorite to win the NC...especially in Omaha... Congrats to the volleyball team..... #2 in the country isn't bad....... Good luck to next years team, and thanks to Melissa and Jen.
  17. I have seen these girls play a handful of times this season (like most of you), and this group is as talented as any team that NU has had.... I think that NU wins, but a sweep may not happen... Both of these teams are too good to expect a sweep by either team..... NU will win in 4 (3-1). If we can survive the 1st game, things will roll. Go Big Red
  18. Congrats to Coach Gill.. Just saw (actually my wife just saw) on ESPNU that Gill was named head coach at Buffalo !! I know that there is already a thread that is somewhat devoted to this, but I felt that Turner Gill deserves his own thread.... I am extremely happy for him. I also think it is great that he and Frank are in the same conference.... Good luck to Coach Gill..... He deserves this opportunity .
  19. Now that the bowl has been set, tickets are flying off of the shelf, I thought I would ask if anyone on the board is making the trip? KC Husker and I are headed down..... I don't know our schedule (we don't have one ) , but I am sure that we would probably find time to meet up with board members for a drink somewhere... Although we were at almost every game, I was unable to attend any of the Huskerboard tailgates.... I am disappointed about that, so if anyone else is going, maybe we'll work something out.
  20. As much as I hate to admit it, this is a great hire ..... I believe that he may be the perfect fit for the situation... I think he will clean house, and with his reputation, it won't take long to re-fill the house... Boise has had very good teams with less talent... I for one am a little concerned what may happen when this guy gets the type of talent that revolves around the Big 12.... But, I am excited to see what BC does when our talent level increases..... I also think a young Ron Prince may eventually be the answer for KSU.... Agree with Huskerstag, it may not be long that NU, CU, KSU begin to flex their muscle in the Big 12..... the North really needs a few teams to step up... As much as I want NU to win the North every year, until the North gets better, and yes, this includes KSU-CU, the champion will get no respect.... I want NU to win a tough division.

    '97 game

WOW, I am impressed.... All you Husker guys really "outfacted" another doubter.. I really don't need to respond at all..... Congrats fellow Huksers..... The more the UM supporters try to justify their argument, the deeper the hole they dig...... Keep em coming guys !!!
  22. Does anyone else notice that as soon as we offer great arguments against these guys's post, they don't respond ???????? They haven't touched the "97 game for quite awhile now....... and as soon as we point out that they are "fair-weathered", they disappear... I mean, sh!t, if you are going to come onto a Husker message board, at least be ready to defend yourself!
  23. Man I am glad you guys jumped on this thread in a positive way !!! Taylor deserves to get this type of support !!!!! And Huskeruguy4, I don't necessarily disagree totally, but my god, did you pay attention last November and look at this board during the month of October? I am not saying that it is a fact that the program would be ruin the program, but if you don't agree that this program would be in trouble, then you are not realistic at all.... If we had not gone to a bowl, Husker Nation would be crying for BC's head big time.... hell, some still are.... How can you possibly recruit when the state is calling for your job...... the words "hot-seat" scare recruits, and ESPN were throwing that around prior to KSU..... A losing season would have been disasterous bar none !!!!!
  24. I stated on another thread that I personally felt that Taylor is savior of this program..... people where/are debating JUCO guys, and I stated that if we didn't take chances on JUCO's , we would have never found this guy... I know that this is bold, but Taylor may single handily saved the NU football program !!!!!! Once everything is said and done, years from now, we will look at Zac Taylor as one of the most IMPORTANT qb to EVER play at Nebraska No, he isn't as talented as Gill, Frazier, Crouch, but he is every bit as IMPORTANT, and may be even MORE important than these guys were (except Frazier).... He will not win the Heisman or win NC ,but he saved this program... Without Taylor, we would not have a winning season or be going to a bowl.... And 2 consecutive seasons like that would have killed this programs spirit, recruiting, and in all likelyhood set us back 5-6 years.. Taylor is one tough SOB, and he has shown that he loves to play.. What he has done, is show the Husker Nation that the WCO has a CHANCE to work. We owe this kid a ton of thanks. We should be talking about him instead of all the threads on Beck... Beck may be great in his time, but Taylor saved this program, and he deserves the praise !!
  25. I don't see the big deal....... Everyone keeps referring to Kansas State whenever they don't agree with all of the JUCO's..... So what !!!!!! I completely understand the draw-backs such as a kid may not pan out, and he may only have 1 good yr....... Hey , wihtout the JUCO route, we wouldn't have won 3 games this year....Even Beck says that he wasn't even close to being ready to play..... Taylor is an absolute savior for now !!!! He may have single handily SAVED this program I know that is a huge statement, but if we don't win 6-7 games and go to a bowl, this program would be way down in the dumps !!!! JUCO guys can play, and I will take my chances on these guys, expecially if you need immediatel help (I believe we had a JUCO Heisman winner - Rozier) And the KSU arguement makes absolutely NO SENSE to me.... Now, I hate those bast@rds more than anyone, but why is the comparison so negative? Last time I checked, KSU kicked ass during the last decade with JUCO guys !!!!!!! Man, that would suck.... They contended for the Big 12 and NC (or top 5), using JUCO kids...... IMO, the reason KSU has dropped has nothing to do with the JUCO route !!!! Does anyone realize that Snyder lost many good assistant coaches during the past 5 years, and those guys not only could coach, but they were GREAT RECRUITERS.... the fact that the these coaches are not there anymore is why KSU dropped.. The JUCO route hasn't "cost" them anything IMO.... I like the High School kids, and we should focus mainly on these guys, but is is okay to bring at least 7-8 JUCO guys a year..... you can survive with this mix.
