  1. How exactly? I was in Tiger Band in the 98, 99, and 00 seasons. I would guess that you mean that they played Tiger Rag or some variation of it every other down.
  2. Congratulations Huskers. There's quite a few of these threads so I figured I wouldn't start a new one. That was definitely one of the most entertaining bowl games so far. Of course I'm disappointed because we had every chance to win but given where we were in October, I don't have much to complain about. I've always liked Nebraska and I will continue to pull for y'all. I'd love to schedule a home and home at some point in the future.
  3. Clemson is a tight family also within the university and alumni. Now I know that Nebraska as a state is solid Red and the state of South Carolina is fairly evenly divided (slight tilt towards USC due to their larger alumni base) in terms of loyalty. Our state as a whole will never have the kind of unity that Nebraska has. However, the Clemson family itself is a very close group. In fact, the phrase "Clemson Family" is used often and is evident everywhere. A couple examples: - A few years ago, an off campus apartment building burned down and left dozens of students with nothing but the clothes on their backs (thankfully nobody was hurt). Immediately, donations began pouring in from fellow students, faculty, the city of Clemson, and others. The morning after the fire, there was a message posted on Clemson's webpage stating where to send donated items such as clothing, books, school supplies, etc. By that afternoon - less than 24 hours after the fire - the message on the webpage had changed to something like "Please don't send any more donations of anything. We have way more than we will ever need." - With the budget crunch this year, President Barker (Clemson's president) imposed a 5-day unpaid furlough for salaried employees this year to save money. Of course he didn't want to do that but money is very tight. As a result, a fund was set up for people to donate money to help those employees who would need money the most (obviously not for the highest paid professors but for the support staff who don't make much) and donations are accepted from everybody at Clemson. Students, faculty, and alumni all came together to donate in this fund to make up for the shortfall. South Carolinians are a stubborn bunch and we stick together on most things with the notable exception of college football. Seems like Nebraskans are exactly the same except that every single one of you all across the state live and breathe Cornhusker football. And I would bet that y'all have a similar bond with fellow students and alumni and the campus itself that is as deep yet undescribable to outsiders. These similarities are part of what makes it so much fun for us Clemson fans to come over here on this board. Finally, below are a couple of my favorite writings about Clemson. The first is entitled "Something in These Hills" and was written by an alumnus of Clemson College. http://www.tigermemories.com/page.php?3 The second is the last two sections from a post on TigerNet (www.thetigernet.com) from a few years ago describing senior year and coming back to Clemson as an alumnus. It is looking back and laughing at yourself when you were a freshman. It is looking back and asking yourself where four years went. It is realizing that the past four years were the greatest in your life. It is the sweat on your brow as you finish your biggest project ever. It is being able to walk in front of the Calhoun house. It is being able to walk in front of the statue of Thomas Clemson. It is knowing every square inch of campus while blindfolded. It is walking down the aisle. It is shaking the president's hand. It is seeing your name on that piece of parchment. It is taking one last walk alone through campus as a student. It is your senior year. It is coming back for the first time in years. It is seeing Tillman again for the first time. It is noticing the statue in front of Mell and having it mean something. It is watching the demolition of Johnstone. It is watching it grow younger as you grow older. It is giving anything you can because you think of it as your child. It is knowing that your best friends who are standing beside you were your neighbors. It is looking into your old classrooms and sitting in your old seats. It is standing on the hill for the first time in years. It is a picnic out at Twin Lakes. It is seeing your name that you carved during your junior year in the same place. It is knowing that after you are gone, your children and friends were influenced by things you learned here. It is knowing that it will be here when your children think the same thing you are thinking right now. It is Clemson. It is more to you than anyone will ever know. full post is http://www.thetigernet.com/view/hof_post.do?id=218
  4. We play on New Years Day in the Outback Bowl against Iowa. Bigger bowl than the Gator. It pays a million dollars more. More people will watch too. Just to see what Spurrier will do. Sorry. Hopefully we will be able to meet in a BCS bowl next year. Ya'll deserve a better opponent. Go c$%ks!! Go Huskersd!! Wrong. It pays at most $600K more. And no one wants to watch Spurrier's whiney face on TV. More is more. I'm pretty sure that I read that the payout was 1 million more than the Gator. I'm sure Nebraska would rather be playing in Tampa, getting a half million more against an SEC team. You can't deny that, can you? I wish we could face off. I think it'd be a good game. Iowa is good, but no Nebarska. And ya'll have good, loyal travelling fans much like USC. And at least you'd be playing a school that the rest of the country would know the location of. California?
  5. I know that football reigns supreme in Nebraska but do y'all follow college baseball since your team is pretty good and the CWS is right next door in Omaha? I don't like basketball at all even though Clemson is apparently pretty good at it now but I love baseball so after the BCS games I don't do much sports until the end of February when college baseball starts.
  6. Tommy Bowden is a pansy. A good Christian man (Clemson inside joke), but a pansy. It kind of got on my nerves that they would use T. Bowden with the ESPN crew. Like, the only credibilty he has is that he's Bobby's kid. Like, "hey let's get some expert commentary from a bad coach who's hated by his former fans and just got canned!' His eyes looked bloodshot and he didn't seem to speak very well. Is he going to be doing more of the bowl games? Holtz, May, and he are an almost unbearable combo. Hey, I wouldn't be dissin' on T. Bowden if I thought you Clemson guys liked him.... Not all us Clemson hate Bowden. Now I do think that he needed to go but he did a good job during his time at Clemson but not good enough. He left the program in far better shape than when he found it (remember 3-8 the year before he took over?) as far as facilities, talent, players' off the field behavior, etc. He just couldn't turn the corner completely so he did need to go. But constantly bashing him for not winning the conference is not right. It's not like he took a national championship caliber team and drove it into the ground - he took a program that was on the ground and brought it part of the way back up to a championship program.
  7. Usually in cases like this with a good offense against a good defense, the defense comes out on top but I'm worried because, as the article said, our defense looks good on paper partly due to the fact that we haven't faced top offenses. Also, our defensive coordinator responsible for our good defense this year is no longer with us (a move by Dabo that I personally don't agree with). This game could very well be a shootout if we can get Spiller and company rolling.
  8. A lot of time there are local charities that you can donate the tickets to that give them to poor kids in the Jacksonville area so they can attend the game. I'll try to find some info on this but it's fairly common for the bowls. A lot of Clemson fans did this when we played in Boise a few years ago.
  9. If I remember right from when I was there in 2001, I'm pretty sure that it Row A is the first row and it goes up from there so Row JJ would be 36 rows up (A through Z is 26, AA through JJ is 10 more than that). That's how it's numbered in Clemson also - I think it's a fairly common way of doing it. By the way, what does GBR mean? I've seen it on a few posts on here.
  10. This game will be very close to a sellout. Both teams travel very well which I'm sure was a big factor in both schools' invites given the current state of the economy. One thing that y'all will see a lot of in Jacksonville is this: .jpg]Tiger Paw-Stamped $2 bill Sorry, I can't figure out how to get the html to work to make it up the picture up instead of this link. Clemson has a tradition of spending $2 bills on bowl trips because it's a very clear way to show the city how big of an economic impact our fans have. But it has been known to get some people a little upset because there's not a slot in the cashier drawer to put the bills so it might be a little inconvenient. In fact, a few years ago I believe at the Peach Bowl against Tennessee, the cashiers at restaurants and bars had to give change in $2 bills to Tennessee fans who were not all that pleased about it. I fully expect the game to be a sellout or very close to it with Clemson having just over half of the fans there. I know y'all will show up strong also but the distance is a factor as was mentioned above.
  11. Our OL has been patchwork all season but they finally started to play well together over the past few games. No telling what a month off will do but I worry about them more than anything else about us. If Nebraska's DL plays well, then it could be a long day for us especially if we can't get Davis and Spiller going.
  12. Makes sense. A lot of times in the rivalries over this way there is some history in them to where it's not just about bragging rights. For example, UCS (short for University of Carolina South - another topic for another thread) was founded in 1801 and has been the largest college in the state ever since. In the late 1800s, Governor Ben Tillman wanted to establish a completely separate agricultural college but he met heavy resistance from the legislature. In his will, Thomas G. Clemson left the land for a new college (he died in 1888) and it was barely approved in 1889 and the Clemson Agricultural College opened its doors in 1893. UCS was liberal arts and Clemson was agriculture and military and those cultural differences helped fuel the rivalry before football was ever a big thing. After the game in 1902 there was a riot between fans and students of the two schools so the game wasn't played for the next nine years. UCS is a bigger school (~27,000 students compared to Clemson's 17,000) so the greater number of alumni put their fan base a little larger than ours but the distribution of fans throughout the state is fairly even with the exception of the cities of Columbia and Clemson obviously. I wonder what it would be like to live in a state like Nebraska where everybody is all for one school. I can't imagine the state of South Carolina without two big school at each other's throats all the time.
  13. It doesn't sound right to say "you" when I'm talking to everybody on this board. And I never say "you all" or "you guys". I could've said "you-ins" My writing is MUCH better grammatically than my speaking and "y'all" is one of the few Southern things that I both say and write. Other things I just say - such as "We ain't got a defensive coordinator right now." That LSU fan was probably some swamp cajun.
  14. I'll definitely drob by after the game. Might wait a day or two for folks to cool off (me or y'all depending on the outcome) but I'll be here.
  15. One thing about Spiller and Ford is their love of catching kickoffs and especially punts on the run sometimes even while diving. We've muffed a couple punts this year. They have the potential to break one every time they touch the ball but sometimes they give the ball up. Both Spiller and Ford are very fast but Spiller has more moves so kicking it to Ford would be best for y'all unless you want to go the pooch kick route which wouldn't be a bad idea considering what I just said above.
  16. PerryWheels.wmv don't need to, we've got it on dvd I watched that game during the bowl season last year, and the Fridge is just so much bigger than the other players. And surprisingly fast for his size. He was a major reason you guys took home the trophy. One of my favorite William Perry clips. He's got some wheels.
  17. Just thought I'd drop by on this Sunday morning before church to say hey. I've been lurking for a while on this board since they announced the Gator Bowl. Of course I am really looking forward to the game and I wish I could go but my teacher's salary doesn't give me a lot of options right now. I've always liked Nebraska and I've heard from other teams that y'all have awesome fans. We played Texas A&M a few years ago in a home and home and they were heaping praise on Nebraska fans also. I know that the whole state lives and breathes Nebraska football as somebody mentioned below. My dad had an Air Force buddy out in Omaha during the 1981 season who said that if Clemson beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl then it would just kill the fans (I was less than a year old then so I don't remember it). And I remember watching Nebraska games in the 80s and 90s and in the rare losses, the cameras would focus on fans and little kids would be crying. Now I'm not saying this to get y'all upset. All these things generated a huge amount of respect from me for Nebraska since it is that important. I don't think that there is a state anywhere in the country that has such a strong support for one team. Other schools have strong support but the state populations are divided between at least two schools (Clemson and South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn, etc.). I've always liked Nebraska for that reason among others. I hope it's a great game in a couple weeks with no injuries and good sportsmanship all around. Y'all have a great Sunday.
