  1. You are very wrong on the boycott. It was discussed on many boards and even some students on the BigHuskerFan echoed it. I am not at many home games. But the best fan title came from cheering our opponents win or lose. Not the student section. I appreciate that we have a strong student backing, but pretty much every power does. There are very few differences between ours and any of the others. Other than we as locals think ours are the best. See MIchigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida STate, Texas, A&M and Texas Tech. We as a program are respected but most feel their fans are the best no matter yours or my thoughts. Most Texas Tech fans stand for the whole game, not just students. I have stood for every game I have attended, and have for as long as I can remember. But bare in mind alot of those that are not students, were at one time, some recent and alot before you were born. Your the new kids on the block, some of us have been doing these things since before your parents were born.
  2. We have the best fans if the students are not counted in the equation. Last year there was talk by the students of boycotting games. Great fans never make those remarks or even think of them. Your great fan base is all the blue hairs that most of the students hate. Without the old guard this fan base is no better than any other. Very few students remain and cheer the other team off the field, it is the old fans that respect our competition. That is what has gotten us the best fans title.
  3. Clone, Your last sentence pretty much sums it up. As a group we are no better than any other program as fans. We actually are a little worse with the newer generation counted. Demanding to win every game. It just does not happen and not matter how much I like BC I do not see that happening either. We will return to the top of college football (top 10) and occasionally get the sniff of a NC game. In honesty that is good enough for me. Younger Nebraska fans are very unrealistic, in their judgement of our team and our competition.
  4. I have been to just about every major football stadium. I have never had a bad time anywhere. Most college football fans are not students. You get what you get when you view them as the representative of the university and normally that depends on security. Overall though the most obnoxious fans that I have ever encountered are LSU fans, at home, at nite. Really different there.
  5. The key words here are "He made football his prime mission". That in its self is a major improvemnt over the past. Bill is the reason this program started down hill. No money on the football side of the house hurt this team and the battle between Frank and Bill did not help.
  6. Nebraska born and raised. SoCal by necessity. Utah by choice. Nothing compares to southern Utah. Dixie is for me, that is Utah Dixie. You can not travel 10 miles and swear you aren't in a different country. So varied and so rural. Natural, pristine, and thousands of blue eyed, blonde beauties at every little burg and town you can imagine. People are respectful. Paradise I tell you, paradise.
  7. Yea just think how much better we could look with a drunk driving, cheer leader banging coach. Things happen for a reason. Some are not privy to all the info. Deal with it.
  8. I personally know the man. I do not like him at all. But I will say this, he has done just exactly what this program needed. He is doing the job he was hired to do and most likely better than anyone else could have. He is a Nebraskan and he wants this program to succeed. You really can not ask for much more. To bad he is such a jerk or most would feel he could walk on water. Credit where credit is due. I appreciate what he has done.
  9. You are discussing one of the most storied football programs in college football history. Heart and will to win will not be missing from the Wolverines. The key is if they take Nebraska seriously. If they do and come prepared I think we are in real trouble. There are a lot of very unhappy fans in Michigan. I doubt Carr will overlook Nebraska, and the team will be on line to support their coach. In honesty I would have rather faced anyone else this year.
  10. I stated earlier, this is the toughest opponent we could have gotten. This is a great team that fell short for what ever reason. My guess is if they were playing USC or Texas they would not be more than a 7pt dog. There is talent on the Wolverine team and sideline. I am with Hunter, just show up and play the game. Nothing could make me happier than being back in a bowl. I can understand Michigan's frustration, I remember Shreveport a few years back. Fans support their team. I do and have for a very long time. I want Nebraska to win and think they have shot. But this Michigan team is not a team to be disrespected. I am very concerned about them. We have not faced anyone near their talent since the Rose Bowl in 01. We have our hands full.
  11. Most on here know I am a die hard Nebraska fan. But I have always dealt in reality. This is a game that we have absolutely no chance of winning if Michigan comes to play. There talent level is vastly superior to ours no matter the thinking on this board. This is a top 5-10 team period. A little luck and a more aggressive coaching stance and they could be in a BCS game. They beat the #3 team in the country. Betting would be on Michigan if it involved my farm. But I think Nebraska will play a good game. If we hold Michigan with in a touchdown I would be very happy with that performance. If Michigan comes to San Antonio with fire in their bellies, it will look more like the Colorado/Texas game than most want to hear. We are no where near their talent or ability. Coaching argurement is not answered yet. Lloyd Carr is a very good coach. He will right the ship and keep Michigan moving forward. This a proud storied program that in their fans eyes have fallen some. We as Nebraska fans know what that feels like. We have been to the bottom of the barrel and are working our way back up. If BC wins this game we will have seen a total turn around of this program. If we play respectable the same will be true. Michigan 35 Nebraska 21.
  12. When history and traditon of college football are discussed three institutions jump out at you. Notre Dame Michigan Alabama then way down the list comes Nebraska. In honesty the last 6 years have dropped us alot in most peoples eyes. As much as I love this program that is reality.
  13. This is about the toughest opponent we could have gotten. There is a real disdain for Nebraska at Michigan. Comments range from subpar accademics to steroids, not to mention sharing the 97 title. They will be ready to play. This is a top ten team with some bad luck. I hope we play a respectable game against them. They would have been the last on the list for me to pick. This will be our toughest game this year by far no matter their current ranking. We will know where we are after this game. I am afraid we are a lot farther off than some think. This could get very ugly very quickly if Zac and Cory are not spot on.
  14. I tend to agree Utah. I do not think Nebraska is ready to crush anyone the level of Michigan or Iowa. Still hoping for UCLA or Oregon though. We will have our hands full with who ever we face in a bowl game. Improvement has been made and I am very happy for BC and the staff. But expecting or predicting destruction of a good oponent is a little early for me. But I admire Nameless for his confidence. I just take it a little slower.
  15. His threatening of the Head Coach, his cheap shots on his own team mates in the locker room, breaking a felllow teammates ankle. Yea we needed Richie. Hell Cotton wanted to get rid of him the year before. Washington and Bullocks were told to hit the road. Too many problems for the staff to overcome with disloyalty. We are far better off that they left, I wish they had left the year before. Those 3 did more damage to this program than they ever did good.
  16. Back to back is something that is very hard to do. The school that looks to have that ability in the future is ND. SC will continue to do well due to weather and population. Warm weather schools in the south I doubt we will see any back to backs from Big 12 or Big 10 programs. Here's hoping but I have my doubts.
  17. I am not calling for that. I doubt it would ever happen. I just see the logic that Former is putting out there. It does come occasionally. Hanc, you bring some important points too.
  18. That is your opinion and you are surely entitled to it. I attended the Rose Bowl in 2001. I do not see that that bowl game did the program any good other than the financial side. It did nothing for recruiting or the general public's opinion of Nebraska. I think in the media's eyes it hurt us way more than any good it did. I remember Tom losing many bowl games and it almost got him fired long before his first NC. Many were screaming he could not win a major game. The media is a very powerful tool in recruiting. We are not nor is our staff very highly thought of currently. A blow out loss to Clemson or BC would really hurt recruiting I think. If we are not able to play competively with Colorado, which is not even a top 40 team with their losses, what team would we play that would benefit the program. I remember the tempest after the Independence Bowl. I remember the low numbers of fans at the game. I doubt Nebraska fans will follow this team to a low level bowl. Way more unrest this year than then. Again I will spend my money to go and support the team. I love this staff and this team. It may even be one of my all time favorites. But I just do not see a silver lining out there.
  19. I think you measure the improvement against teams such as Texas Tech and Oklahoma, Iowa State. Kansas and Missouri make you question, but overall there has been some improvement. I would think much more next year. I tend to agree with Former on the bowl deal. It may end up costing the university to go to one of these low level bowls. Personally, I would rather we did not go this year. I know the kids worked hard and want that holiday, but bowl standards really should be met. I remember ND turning down a bowl game due to their record. But the number one worry on my part is who we would play. I have heard Florida State, Clemson, Tennessee and Boston College. Personally I do not think we would stand a chance against any of those teams. Could end up being more of an embarassment than anything. I am looking at it from the University and coaching staff side on this. I would not want to stop the team from going to a bowl, but I truly do not feel we are at Nebraska bowl standards. I am not a team basher, or Callahan hater. I just see this in the long run not being the best thing for the program. But I will be at what ever bowl we go to, to support our team. JMO

-Congrats to Zac, he truly is a class act. But mentioning that, I heard that Coach Snyer walked to the center of the field and told him great game, and numerous KSU players did the same. Possibly some of their fans are not the best but it sounds like the staff and players of KSU are pretty good people. We owe them a thank you for their concern.
  21. I think this staff will do fine. It takes time to get the depth that is needed anymore to play in a BCS conference. We have had injuries and players not stepping up as expected. But the worst thing in the world is to expect a NC team to appear. It took TO 20 some years to accomplish it. I never expect NC teams. I hope for a competitive team in the hunt for the Big 12 every year and an outside chance of a top 5 finish every 4-5 years. Anything above that is unrealistic/Nebraska thinking.
  22. How many Pro teams are soley rushing teams. You need to do both. But no matter the desire and love for it the option is never going to work at the top of college football or the professional side. We are nothing more than a a training site for the Pro side. That is what the top athletes want. To get them you can not offer them the option, it quit working in 97. We did not get one top rated offensive lineman in that recruiting class after we won the National championship. WHHHHHYYYYYYYY?
  23. All that decide to sell their season tickets let me know.
  24. Well from what I have seen from Lucky, USC would not want him. Talent is still the issue. Our highly toted freshman just did not have the ability to be a RB or AP. So what, give them the time to learn. Alabama here we come. What crappy fans!
