  1. I would like the old offense as much as the next guy, but I don't think it is completely necessary. Here is a list that I always thought we needed to be successful on offense. 1. We need our old line back. When our bright spot on this line is Ricky Henry (no offense intended to him, cause I like him) something is wrong, because he probably wouldn't sniff 3rd team on our old lines. We haven't had a high caliber line since maybe 2001 and that wasn't even one of our best by a long shot. 2. This goes with #1, but we need two offensive line coaches. One coaching pass blocking and the other coaching run blocking, just like we used to have. 3. We need an offense that doesn't rely on 5* WR's and amazing passing QB's. For some reason we have never been able to really recruit these positions with any type of consistency. Osborne was the last one to get a top notch WR and that was a long time ago. As far as QB's we have never gotten a Dan Marino or Peyton Manning and we probably never will. 4. We need an offense built around the recruits we have in our own backyard. Get as many high profile guys around the country for your skill positions for sure, but we also need to rely on what the kids are built for in our 300 mile radius recruiting circle. I think a power run type offense would still be very successful here, but we don't need the old offense back...not that I wouldn't love to have it back though.
  2. This is just me, but I don't like it when I hear the players' attitudes are very business-like. Everytime I hear that they come out flat. Every team has their own way of acting, but sometimes I would just like to see some guys getting each other fired up. Mostly I just want to see someone leading out there and inspiring the troops. Getting in guys ears if their head isn't in the game. When someone has a great play they are there knocking them to the ground and smacking them in the facemask as a celebration. Intensity...all that kind of stuff.
  3. Well we were setup to defend the spread, which is what most teams in the big 12 run. Honestly, it isn't a big deal to me. Bo will gameplan for the defenses that have a heavy run...and that is for Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, and maybe Ohio State. Ohio State is much more multiple to me....they use power formations along with spread formations and are what a real multiple team looks like. Penn St. is pretty balanced so maybe throw them in although I haven't watched them play much lately. But even though we gave up some yards on the ground, most of the time we stopped them when it counted. Plus, when we played Kansas St. we played the run and shut it down, so I wouldn't worry too much there.
  4. Who was coaching the offense and the QB's? And then who did the playcalling tonight? Tim Beck. Which is hilarious that Bo let Beck assume these responsibilities, then allowed Watson to playcall. Freakin' moronic to allow that to happen. That is pretty strange. I would think you would want Beck to call the plays since he did the gameplanning and all. That is all on Bo if that is the case.
  5. Who was coaching the offense and the QB's? And then who did the playcalling tonight?
  6. That gave me goosebumps...very well said.
  7. It is funny...I said to everyone I was talking to that the best way to attack our defense was to run it right at us. Washington did a heck of a job exploiting our weaknesses on defense. However, we still held them to 19 which goes to tell you that our defense is still a great one...if they can only score 19 exploiting our weakness on d? Not too shabby.
  8. I was on the basketball team with Nick in High School. He was one heck of a shooter let me tell ya. His dad, Mitch, was a heck of an athlete as well. I played him a few times in leagues and that whole family are great competitors. Hopefully Trevor gets on the football team, because I think he would be a solid get for the Huskers. Good to see Nick is doing well coaching...I always thought he would be a good coach.
  9. Watson has said that he wanted this type of offense in 2009 with Lee. The splits in the line happened way back in the spring game in case you guys forgot. So not really sure how anyone can say we switched everything in fall camp.
  10. 1. Quit buying into the coach speak. Yes this is a team game, but we know where the games are lost on this team and you better believe Pelini knows it to. He will tell all the media it is a team game, but deep down he knows the offense is the problem. 2. You don't have to be balanced to be effective...you just have to execute at a high level in whatever you run. Basically have an identity which we don't have. 3. There is something very wrong with Watson. I don't know if he isn't a good teacher, can't see talent, overthinks the playcalling, etc, etc...but there is something wrong there and he doesn't get the most out of his players for whatever reason.
  11. Yep I heard from a guy I trust that Gilmore was out and the coaching staff wanted to move on without Watson. Plus, they also wanted to get rid of Ekeler, because he wasn't that good of a coach. It might be true...might not be, but the guy has always been spot on. I was surprised to hear that about Ekeler, but it seems like that might be the case.
  12. My sources say 60% of the time it works everytime.
  13. This was our last Big XII tour and we blew it against Texas, Texas A&M, and OU. Against Texas, it looked like there was no passion out there...the team should have been completely fired up for that game and they weren't. A&M...6 points enough said. OU we blew a 17 point lead...never should have happened. Mostly us fans wanted to go out winners and get some redemption. We didn't get it so we are a little bummed about it. It is still a pretty good season and now we are going into the unknown in the Big 10.
  14. Thanks for the kind words. I will miss the Big 8...I never did like the Big XII, so I feel like the SWC schools ruined something special. Hopefully we will meet again sometime down the road in a bowl game or in the Big 10.
  15. Is Braylon Heard ever going to make it? Or are we done with him? Aaron Green WILL be ahead of Robinson though. Also I would say Bubba Starling would be penciled in at QB IF he doesn't go to the MLB. I gave up hope on that happening though.
  16. I would punch a baby in the face if Bo left for Miami! Disclaimer- The above statement should only be taken as humor. Striking babies is wrong.
  17. I agree with a lot of that, except to note that Ron Brown is a damn fine coach and a big asset to this staff. Also not sure what the band aid fixes in 2008 were, but you get the idea. The stuff about missing on QBs a few years in a row really resonates with me and moreover, the stockpiling of projects at that position. That's a big reason why we are so thin at depth there right now. People said before the season we had a 3-headed monster there, but let's be real now. We had Taylor (when healthy), and nobody knew what we would get out of Lee and Green other than projections. Went digging around and more on the changes to the offense here. I admit I really know very little about the nature of the changes or the probably direction we are going to take in the future with the O, other than very generally QBs that can run and an offense that relies on running. Basically, we have problems with the offense right now, but it's going to take a real solution that the folks in charge are going to have to identify and work at. Most just want to change the name of the guy, but I think the problems here are more deep-rooted than that and Bo as HC will have to work up a solid and comprehensive plan of attack to find the best solution, rather than cut anyone and throw some money at someone else (advocated by some fans) or replace anyone that leaves with someone from within and keep on chugging as we have (what seems to be the likely future in the next several years if anyone leaves). People want Watson to get fired or quit and they see it as a solution, but it's not a solution. Whether he stays or not, we need a solution, and it probably isn't clear to anyone what that may be - so we have only to turn to Bo, and hope. I don't know zoogies...I agree with a couple of things that guy said, but some of it I don't really see how he came up with some of his opinions. As a playcaller he is not fine in my eyes. At times some of the plays are poor execution by the players and then other times they are just bad series, because Watson went away from what is working. Watson just doesn't see how the game is going and he doesn't know how and when to make adjustments. Plus, Bo is still figuring out what type of offense he wants. But at this point he is still trying to get the right recruits for that offense and at the same time win games. So we don't have an identity because of this. That is why so many new coaches fail...they try to ram in their system with the wrong players and have multiple bad seasons. Which in turn gets the coach fired before he can establish the culture he wants. Then for the guy to say Blaine Gabbert would have made a difference is ludicrous. Not with the offensive philosophy that Bo wants anyways. He wants a QB that can be a threat to run to make defenses account for all 11 guys on the offense. It is basically like when we ran the power option in a way. Defenses had to account for the QB as well. That is what I heard him say in an interview anyways...that was straight from Bo. Anyways, I agree we need to recruit more QB's with the skill set to run what we want. They need to commit to having a run first QB and go out and get those types of guys (if that is the direction they want with the offense). Then you can establish an identity. What I see right now from our QB's is a guy that can pass in Lee, a guy that is somewhat average at both in Green, and a guy that can run in Martinez...just no consistency on what we want. You want guys that can run...then get QB's that run first. You want a passer, then get all passers. It is a jumbled mess of what our QB's are good at and if one goes down then we have to completely change the offense for whoever is in there. If we do get a new OC then he needs to be knowledgable in the type of offense that Bo wants to run. The bolded part is very well said and pretty much sums up how they need to approach this situation.
  18. Well, you started out strong . . . . Yeah most of my post sounded like I am a Watson supporter, but I am not. I just feel like we need to keep some continuity going into the Big 10, because it could be an awful time to change the entire offense. Not to mention the fact that we have been recruiting for this type of offense. I just feel a total shift in our philosophy right now would be a bad decision. If we can get a gradual shift to some type of identity...it would be for the better IMO. Like some people have said though, I really hate how we have wasted a couple of great defenses. We lose a lot of our secondary this year, so I think we need to rely on our offense a little more next year. We might be great again on defense (which I think we will be pretty good in that department), but I think a couple of wins will have to come from the offense next year. Just a little food for thought.
  19. I hate Watson's offense...just going to come right out and say it. I hate how we have lost our offensive identity of power and imposing our will on the defense. I looked up some scores from the Tom Osborne era and I have to say I was surprised. We had a few games where we were shutout or just scored 7 or 3 points. So I think we need to lighten up a little and show patience. There will be games like this. We just need to be patient for the pieces to fall into place. In the meantime, I will take 10 win seasons all day long until we can sprinkle in a few championships. We should be thankful for those many wins after the last decade we went through. Can we really dispute that we haven't been competitive in almost all of our games with very few exceptions? That is all we can ask for IMO. I am not a Watson supporter and never really have been...I also hate the spread and zone read. I think Watson should stay...but only if he is willing to change some things and show he can learn/evolve, take responsibility, and inspire the offense. I just never see passion from the offensive side of the ball. So if Bo has to inspire Watson to inspire the offense...then that is what needs to be done. Mostly just wanted to say that even Osborne struggled to put points on the board at times. He also did show that he can have some potent offenses as well. The coaches just need to put it all together and we might have a powerful offense again. We need to keep continuity and it will all come together. I guess until that happens, I will be happy with 10 wins a season...it is what I figured we would have this year anyways. I also really hope if Watson stays, that he will learn something new...his playcalling is just terrible at times.
  20. I thought contacting your parents during a game is against team rules or something. I could be wrong, but if anything that is why Bo would be pissed. Also isn't that kind of a fuzzy deal with the NCAA due to the possibility of a gambling issue...insider info or something? That might be why he was going off on Taylor IMO. He violated some rule about contacting parents during the game and got ripped for it. Most people are probably just going crazy with speculation and that is how these rumors just blow up.
  21. I don't think there is a conspiracy against us. I just think the Big XII refs are the worst out there. They have been a problem for a long time now...not just this year. But they missed a PI against us (not in the endzone though). Then they missed the fumble Osborne caused for us. The officiating was bad this game, but I have to admit I have seen worse. The only conspiracy there is though...is when you play Texas. It doesn't matter who they play...they will get every call imaginable.
  22. Dude...go pound sand. This kind of sh!t is why we are tired of you little piss ants in the big XII. Just take your licks like a man and call it a day would ya?
  23. Cry some more...we don't think we are the classiest fans...and cool story.
  24. Why would you laugh at that? It's like laughing at Missouri saying they're better than Nebraska in basketball. You are, and it's demonstrable. By what measure of "best" would you describe a fan base? Best manners? Best treatment of opponents? Best tailgate? Best rack? Best travel? Best...what? Whatever measure you want to use, Nebraska's fan base has to be among the top in the nation. It's not a boastful thing, it's part of the culture of the state. 99.337% of all Husker fans take that "best fans" thing with a huge grain of salt. It doesn't win games, so who cares? And the kicker is, if we forbade the use of that term forevermore, Nebraska fans would still travel well, still applaud the opponent on the way out of the stadium, still be friendly and welcoming. The label followed the behavior, not vise versa. i think you are missing what is funny to me. its funny that someone so adamantly denied that any nebraska fan would ever tell someone else that NE fans are great fans, when in fact nebraska fans often tell others that. thats what i thought was funny. its not a knock. in a lot of ways i wish other mu fans were like ne fans. maybe its just my humor, i just got a kick out it Dude did I say any Nebraska fan...I said REAL fan...in both my posts. I don't listen to what the casual fan says. And for the record I was born and raised in Nebraska...I have talked to more NE fans then you have and I have heard someone say it one time. Then she asked what color was Nebraska. Are you kidding me? I also said greatest fans in college football...we are great fans and that is a fact. We just don't think we are the greatest or above most other fanbases. I don't know if you just saw what you wanted from my posts, but you are wrong and you should read them again. But I am done with this so we are dropping the subject. Now Blaine Gabbert is a great QB and he is better then Chase Daniel. He will definetly have a great NFL career.
  25. you may not, but i have to call it I cant tell you the exact number of times I have had a NE fan tell me about how classy Nebraska fans are and how you are the best fans in college football. I can however tell you its in the HUNDREDS. I seriously nearly feel over laughing when i read your post. Lets just put it this way...If i posted what you just wrote on a big 12 board where fans from the other teams could see this it would be the highest rated joke thread in the history of that board. These were REAL Nebraska fans? Like they knew our history and they could name players that weren't starters? And I couldn't care any less what other people on big 12 boards would have to say about our fans, but I bet if they have ever been to a game in Nebraska...they would have good things to say about the majority of our fans.
