  1. bob problem was ends didn't do anything on the edge, just looked inside at rb while copernick ran around them, very troubling. Same time they have two weeks to make adjustments and lee running the option doesn't pose much of a problem as nv qb who was much better at it. Helu is the guy there, ends smack lee, backers pick up Helu. that is the theory, now lets see who executes.
  2. game is a tossup and gambling lines are to entice action not make judgements on who will actually win. as for me I wouldn't bet anything on this game. Last yr tigers were hd and shoulders more talented and huskers were a slow, ponderous team on both sides of the ball. Now huskers are a little quicker, tigers are even quicker, more athletic. How that will translate on final score, who knows. lots of emotion and ball takes funny bounces. Turnovers and who has a better game plan will be big factors. who coaches up there guys better. I would say tigers have better talent overall, at skill positions it isn't even close. You have the better rb and te, tigers have much better qb and Wr's are clearly superior. predict if you chose, last yr I read where huskers thought they should be favored by 2 to 4 tds. how did that work out for you? personally I am just going to enjoy the limelight, only game on that night. Great opportunity for one team to show what they have.
  3. good conversation, running attack will be vry important as which MU dline will show up? the one that totally shut down IL's running game? Or the one that allowed BG, Furman and NV too many yds too easily? I can't say, lot of size and ability in tackles but will they get it done? Lbers are very good tacklers and blitz well but havn't done much of that. Lots of questions. How Helu does is key to this game. Had a big game against a good D at VT in open field but not so much in red zone. How Lee handles the pressure will be huge, as he seemed to get happy feet against VT's pressure. MU's ends are very fast, how will huskers tackles do? If they don't get pressure Lee will be able to hit underneath routes for good yardage. does tigers try to establish run or throw the ball as in yrs past very successfully to open up running lanes? Is a mystery, answers coming soon!
  4. just watched replays of last game and Nu wasn't getting pressure from front four at all so sent several blitzes which rattled qb, Asante's pick 6 was off a blitz. you all talk about a good secondary but all i saw was cagins being thrown to and those ugle red uniforms wern't that close, quite a few completions. granted only saw about 30 snaps but that was my impression. guess those were throwbacks as they were hideous, regular uni's are cool.
  5. the baylor game I had thought would be very tough for nu, as his speed is something you would have a hard time dealing with. I keep seeing how you guys think you are fast, I don't think so at all. Last yr you were painfully slow is why you took several a**whuppings at home from MU and OU, are better now but still arn't where you need to be to hang with the faster spread teams. Griffin would have been tough for you to handle in waco, mu gets then at columbia so that would be an easier task and there de's and lbers are quicker than nu's, so had the speed to run with him. wouldn't write them off as they still have upgraded their talent base adn briles knows how to score pts.
  6. both teams are about where they deserve to be in polls. not really much excitement about either program and untill either beats someone from south, likely to remain so. On the other hand both play couple of big teams from south and if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Just Do it! After this game one will arise into top 20 and the other will sink out of sight for remainder of year. After thursday week, we shall find out who is who.
  7. pinkel is stubborn and has done some mighty questionable things in the past, yes like trying to turn BS into a throwing somoan was not wise. Last friday he kept trying two pt conversions when it was not wise as well. One thing to remember, MU has rarely blitzed so far this season, getting all pressure from front four, who are very fast and athletic group, quicker than the huskers line. Holding anything else back is just talk. Football coaches as a group arn't that smart and rarely are risk takers. Just saw a half of ragincagin/husker game, Lee looked good on short to intermediary passes, long passes notsomuch. Helu ran very well, impressive! Burkhead was just a guy but I only saw a few touches, receivers were ok, TE's are huge, what did they put mcneil on? he wasn't that big last yr? On the other hand he was covered easily downfield by cagin lbers, not as quick either, other TE is large, decent receiver, not quick. Lee is not much of a runner, has a short quirky throw, nice touch again short and medium. Good possesion type qb, as long as he has time. Helu should do well against tigers. lot of exchange problems while I watched between Lee and Helu plus several bad snaps, is that a thing? Dline was ok, cagins had success running the ball, not much pressure unless you blitzed with a lot of bodies. secondary was giving up a lot of cushion, asante went down hard after long run, while it may not be a big thing but will limit him, other db went down and isn't coming back. A thin secondary looks thinner. Lbers are quick to tackle but gave up too many completions first. Looked what you would expect from ones so inexperienced, Bo needed to burn a few shirts last yr on D and these guys that will hurt you in big 12. KU especially will have a field day on this D, BG is likely to have a lot of success deep on you. Just one fans observations.
  8. billyball good analysis of the tigers, while some of the rest of you are so far off to be laughable? someone even said Chase was a scrambler and blaine a pocket passer, totally wrong, chase didn't throw well on the run and gabbart has made some spectacular throws while running for his life plus he can take off and is very fast and huge. the comments on mu's running attack were accurate and something I am not a fan of but it did work against huskers last several years for big yardage, including the total wipeout at lincoln last year. has it been good so far, not really. as someone else mentioned young OC so not sure if he can take advantage of NU's weak secondary and lbers, if he runs against your line it won't be pretty. If he throws over them from the gitgo mu will have a lot of success, receivers are very good after catch. As for having better talent? Huh? by many of your own postings, Nu is very thin everywhere but that is all speculation so not worth going into, you think the same way every fan of every team does and is has little reality. All I can say is MU has more athletes at more positions than they ever had but they are very young with many of the two deep freshmen or sophomores. Will be a big night on National TV when our game is THE game throughout the land and it will be enjoyable. As we have had little national pub and expectations are lowered and we have a very young team, we are shooting for 2010 to really come out and shine, but uneverknow. I won't engage in a pissing match over who will win as that is a summer game. Now they will actually play this bad boy and it will be fun!
  9. as a tigers fan I have no idea what to expect. mu does some things very well on D and then lets some guy gash them easily last friday. On O they have started very slowly then heated it up in 2nd half, running game has been inconsistant. On the other hand BG is the real deal, can scramble, ramble for big yardage and can throw it backpedaling on a rope 50 yds and accurately. OC has been inconsistant in playcalling, best when he lets the big dog eat and rocks back and fires, receivers are good, the two seniors are very good. As for the insane commit that lee looks as good as Gabbart? Man what have you been smoking? granted I watched him in the VT game as the only opponent you played that was NT but he made poor throws and bad decisions on the option. On the 3 if he had pitched it helu walks in untouched, he kept it. Might have done better against the rest of the jr high teams you played, they were not tv worthy, so don't know. he had big days, blah, blah, blah, means little. Helu is lighting it up, running hard and elusive, very good rb. As of right now he is better than mu's top runner. Now as for predictions? Have no idea, thought I would by now. BG will light up your secondary as they arn't very good, Dline will stop running game cold, will pick on inexperienced backers with a lot of success. Not sure if OC will have the right game plan to exploit the obvious weaknesses of this secondary, takes too long to figure the obvious out. Husker will be able to run the ball, helu should have big day, will have some success throwing short, especially to TE. Final score? At this pt can't say but it should be an entertaining day and by thursday night we will finally have a better idea of who each team is.
  10. Bo is in a growing process, you never know about a guy till he has the ultimate authority and they all have growing pains and make mistakes. those who expect anyone to step in and make dramatic upgrades to a program in one yr are doomed to be dissappointed. Those who pt out his obvious mistakes are no less a fan of the program than someone who questions that posters loyalty. Pinkel took over the MU program and made a ton of questionable mistakes and had the fans calling for his hd untill he grew and upgraded the program and it took years. Is he a grt hd coach? Not really but he has made Tigers competitive and put them on the national map while running a very clean program, a credit to the Big 12. Guy who roots out the cancers and gets rid of them, unlike Mangino who turns out is running a Thug U. GP may not be an Urban Meyer or top 5 HC but he is a very good one who runs a program that you can be proud of, with players who have character who are moving on to the next level and who get their degrees, which is kinda what college is about. Watson's playcalling in the vt game was not very good. Helu was dealing and you don't pound the ball when you are on the 3 and Lee is not making grt decisions? Give roy the da** ball, you have to have your playmakers make the plays and he is the best thing about NU's O. Bo is still in his formative whoamI stage, jury is still out on his abilities (as it is in all HC's) till he has at least 3 or 4 yrs of results in not only wins or losses but in recruiting and running a program. Still hasn't beaten anyone of consequence which isn't surprising for a young coach, time will tell.
  11. fro you are spot on about dw, he just doesn't run the same way. not as explosive or as hard to take down. KL is a pistol and when he gets his running legs under him is as dangerous a back as there is in conference. Will be interesting to see if MU D can shut down running attack of NV, they have looked good so far but this will be the best running game before they play huskers. Helu looked very good against vt.
  12. watched the vt/nu game yesterday finally, so I have some impressions to share. VT rolled thru nu fairly easily early on, d adjusted and did much better. Red zone O was not good, if lee simply pitches to helu on first and g on 3, helu walks in, saw a lot of bd decisions by Lee. Optimist says he has so much room to improve, which is true or is he just not that good? I have no idea till he plays better teams. Ttaylor was not very good at all but letting him beat you on that last drive, wow a real hrtbrker. how could db let someone get behind him in last 2 minutes? as for MU, have been inconsistant, not surprising with young qb, amazing that against the best team tigers faced he came out and played very well. running game is spotty, attribute that to inexperienced OC. as for the game coming? two teams still trying to find an identity. Tigers have more talented players and deeper without question, qb is much better, top receivers are seniors not even close, oline is very athletic, rb's are solid. D is doing well but still has questions. special team play has been vry good. as for predicting the game, who knows, lots of emotion involved, this is a game where a lot of questions will be answered and could go either way, depends on which team steps up. Think you will find out a lot more about Bo, as he hasn't beaten anyone of consequence yet. And BTW beating a lousy Clemson squad who was considered the most dissapointing team of the yr wasn't much. Mu beating a decent nw team, wsn't much either, just made you feel better about a dissapointing season.
  13. morris twins were trouble at their home city, bussed them to lorance in order to clean up their almost woeful transcripts and were by reputation notorious thugs and gangbangersand everyone knew it. they, sherron collins and other bb players have been accused of shooting at students with bb guns from their dorm and kids take alternative routes, relative is a recent ku grad and grudingly told me this recently, when we were talking about ku/mu/nu chances. Only thing he regrets is they wern't better bb players to justify all their personal issues, oh well. Briscoe has had numerous issues and was on a reportely very short lease. Wonder what the large one will do with this? MU promptly cut from program top rated qb freshmen who after one incident, put on probation had another. Bo is to be commended for dismissing a key player in Q, you just can't tolerate bad apples and build a successful program. Out of all the players every program signs, you are going to run into a few bad ones. you are judged tho on how you handle them. You can be a mangino and keep giving a know problem like briscoe and others more chances or you can be like bo or pinkel and cut the cancers out. have to say TO did not do his program any good in reinstating a terrible thug in Lawrence, he came to the STL and even the ultimate upwithpeople father figure kinda guy dick vermeil was couldn't stop him from following a selfdestructive path, he is where he has always belonged.
  14. writer made grt pts, his job to ask questions and pellini's immature answers arn't reassuring to the fan base. saw the holt replay, know the rule but as a practical matter, when is that not a catch? he got both feet in bounds, have rarely seen them call it anything but a catch. How can you let someone get behind you as a DB that late in the game? THAT will give you a hrt attack as a fan. troubling for husker fans is the penalties and ineffective playcalling and Lee's execution. roy was rocking and they don't give him the ball, once in 3 downs? Huh? What happened to NU football? So to sum up, Huskers have a lot of questions and do some things well, others notso much. You can say that about all three top teams in north. Lots of gray areas, glad they will play each other and answer the questions. Tx has looked good but not grt, TT will be able to light up the scoreboard, question is, can you score enough on them? Baylor will be a challenging game in Waco. Will be an interesting strech of games.
  15. shame you guys couldn't finish off the hokies when you had them by the cahonies. mu fans can empathise, how does a receiver get all alone behind the safeties? that was mu d last yr, had KU stoned 4 and forever and let them do that, it is a killer. question is, have the game dvred havn't seen it yet, what did you learn about your team? apparantly roy can run effectively against a good D but what was up with playcalling on 3 yd line, first and goal? when your guy is running hard and you don't give it to him? you pass the ball? sure you guys arn't happy with that, I wouldn't be. Lee is an erractic passer by all accounts, didn't do well, receivers did ok not grt. understand about containing a running qb, forcing him to beat you with pass, mu did that successfully against IL, huskers made it work for almost the whole game. Again how can you let someone by you late in the game? mu played a patsy, so nothing to see there, NV should be decent but they have been not much so far. in a short time all the talking stops to watch what fans of the two teams have. Should be fun, see you in columbia.
  16. Husker will find out who they are after playing their paid patsies, as all good teams do, questions fans have will be answered. Hokies have a stout D especially against the run, if you can run against them you will have something. Can Lee get it done against a good rush? Will the receivers step up? Statement game, you will know who you are tomorrow. How does the team handle it if they get behind? Will Bo go ballistic again? Or will he be a leader and keep his charges ready to come back? Either way it will be fun, huskers could still control destiny in north.
  17. Hats off to huskers for taking on the toughest preconference test in all big 12 and that includes BYU. VT is always a top 10 Defense with a QB who did enough to beat you in lincoln last yr and is improved this yr. Most predictions by the experts has hokies as heavy favorites but if you do upset them, it would raise perceptions of your program. On the other hand a bad loss would totally erase all the preseason expectations and hype. but it is why you play the games as a test to see where you are. Huskers have a brutal schedule with so many tough games on the road, good luck in all but october 8th.
  18. what it means is in Pinkel's past, this would have been a loss, OC wouldn't have made adjustments, kept committment ot running the ball, d shut down falcons O for last 25 minutes and O regrouped and moved the ball the way they should have. For a very young team it was learning while winning. That is growth for any program. To a husker fan or north fan, this game is huge as it is against one of ESPN's favorites, the power in the ACC for years, they will actually pay close attention to it. Your the underdog but have a chance to show who you are and you will, one way or another. In the ongoing debate over how to rank conferences, every game a north team plays on National tv or against a name opponent is very important. It will be interesting. Either you will be more thought of much more to the talking heads or they will dismiss you because of all the early hype if huskers don't play well. Talking heads don't like to look bad.
  19. hmmm, why is upward movement inevitable? NU didn't beat anyone of consequence last yr and it's overhyped run was against weak teams. beat two nobodies so far, what did you learn, not much. top 3 teams are works in progress, ku has played even worse opponents so they know nothing either. this is the game for nu to judge themselves by, much higher rated and the d at VT is always consistantly good, offense is solid. MU handled the good team and barely got their act together, mark of a young team and coordinators and passed a difficult test. for those who question, 3 MAC teams beat BCS teams last weekend, including a highly regarded MI State team at home and western mi was rated middle of the pack in MAC, of course Toledo destroyed the CU team many of you were so worried about before season. after this weekend you will know much more about this team. MU plays a FBS team so no news there, while KU plays a so so Duke squad without a established qb, so they won't help them at all. NU is going into the crucible and will be very interesting as to how it performs. You will know if you can run the ball against a top D, know if Lee can be effective and how the D truly is. These are the games that matter. Good luck it will be a fight, again hats off to NU for scheduling the best team of the north preconference schedule. to be the best you have to play the best.
  20. north needs to step up against tough non conference teams, cu was an embarassment, huskers need to make a good showing in va. MU handled a good IL team that was touted by the talking heads. Huskers need to do same.
  21. this is the best contest between two good teams who still are wondering how good they will be. NU hasn't played anyone yet, so vt playing a competitive game against a very good AL team will have all the advantages. Always tough D, at home TTaylor more mature and having already been thru the grinder. Will be very interesting. Love the Tx-TT matchup, preeminent B12 conference matchup, good call by the TV dudes as not much competition on the schedule other than NU/VT game. Will be very revealing for both tx squads, TX obviously more a veteran team who knows who it is, tech always reloads offensively but can they stop Mccoy? college football is off and running again and it is grt fun! good luck to huskers.
  22. Wow the fact you think you have a prayer against a very good VTech team is amusing but OU? THAT is funny. Going into Baylor, MU, KU and CU will define your season, 2 and 2 record would be outstanding. Not bashing just realistic, unlike husker fans who come on tigers bds. Overlooking Baylor and Ttech would be a mistake, by all accounts baylor has a ton of very good athletes, glad mu has them at home and TTech always reloads on O, they will put up a ton of pts on you and everyone else, an upgraded D will make them very tough matchups. 7 win season is more realistic as KU will blitz you in Lorance offensively, if TR is still mobile with a young oline, which is NU's best opportunity to slow them down. MU like NU is loaded with question marks everywhere but with much better talent. being a spread team and with the top prostyle qb of his class(as you know very well), they should be very good offensively, Defense should be better, faster anyway. What is NU's strength on O? With Q gone, can Hulu carry the primary load and stay healthy? Passing attack will be weak, so hulu and reserves are needed in big way. games are starting, time to stop speculating and see how it all plays out. have a fun season and temper your expectations, all this talk of national prominence is amusing but silly. find out who your HC is first, he beat no one of consequence last yr, staff has recruited poorly as many of you pt out, see how he does with a very tough schedule. VTech game will tell you a lot about him and your team. Enjoy.
  23. both teams have questions on both sides of the ball but nebraska's best bet was a punishing ground game to take pressure off a juco qb with no PT in big 12. losing q hurts as hulu was hurt last yr and has had some problems this yr. the vaunted D was torched by OU and MU at home and lost several good players, lot of inexperience replacing. Both fans will find out who their team is after october game. NU doesn't appear to have the talent to run with Vtech in their house, while IL was 5-7, Zook is a very good recruiter and has assembled a highly rated skilled offense, their D, not so much. Will be interesting starts for both teams. IMO which is all anyone has, MU appears more talented on Offense by far, two returning proven receivers and a load of new talent, easily best running back tandem in north and as you all know the top Pro style qb in that class but still hasn't thrown a pass that mattered, who has taken charge of fall camp. How will they do? we shall see. as always it will be entertaining, it isn't life or death. I agree with an earlier poster, would someone in the north please beat OU or TX! Then someone in the north can talk all the smack they want. till then we are battling for "the best of the rest".
  24. nice meltdown by tigers fan, some truth in the middle of the insanity. question is why are you guys so excited about a medicore team and coach? after you were destroyed in lincoln by the good teams you played you get excited about beating a couple of bad teams? almost losing to cu at home who was shut out in their loss to MU? And you think that was something? Really, truly funny. Talk is cheap, see how you feel after going to Vtech, you will know who your team is. I could be wrong but the talent difference between tigers and nubs was incredible last yr, mu lost a ton of talent, nu lost a bunch of seniors who wern't very good. Tigers have reloaded but won't find out who they are untill they play a very good offensive Illini team. Who will win north? no one stands out as there are so many questions, KU does have the best proven offense but their d is totally unknown. Will be interesting. We'll talk further after a certain october thursday. obviously I don't think you will be happy after a second bad loss early in the season. By then fans of both teams will know much more about their teams.
  25. what a writer or pollster says, yawn, doesn't matter anymore. bullets start flying in just a few days. why not wait till after the first game. nebraska fans are like beaker or tigers fans, you have so many question marks and beat no one of consequence last year, wait till after your trip to blackwater and a very good Vtech team. just as MU has to play a very talented Illinois team, which is heavily favored. till then sure everyone looks good in fall camp, wait till you play someone who is favored and beat them, then talk all you want. KU has to take on 3 tough teams in the south, that is when you will find out who they are. north is in flux, no one truly stands out as a complete team, will be an interesting season and someone from north please beat TX or OU. then you would have something to crow about.
