  1. Considering that I'm that concussion +20 years. I had 4 between the ages of 8-14, and I can tell you now that I"m 20 years later from my last I am encountering all sorts of problems. Depression, anxiety, I have a hard time focusing on things that I use to just dive into and enjoy. I can't watch movies without getting frustrated by sitting still. I can't enjoy video games any more except a few. I have a hard time with jobs that require a lot of concentration, I'm argumentative about everything, I have a hard time hanging on to relationships, and that is just 20 years. TBI is a huge problem, and your response is a slap in the face to someone who is dealing with it on a daily basis.
  2. Ken Niumatalolo Has pretty good success at Navy, understand a run first option style/flex bone offenaive scheme
  3. I fail to understand why we continue to pass on 3Rd and 3
  4. I do agree, ().() I'm interested just how rounded the pegs are in terms of talent and scheme.
  5. MR has coached against BYU three times recently and has an idea of what to expect from them, but knows, relatively speaking, less about how the huskers are going to look come game day. BYU has gone up against MR and knows his scheme but doesn't really know how they are going to come out with the changes made to fit the talent. BYU coach knows a lot more about his team. So which one them has the advantage?
  6. that is kind of what I thought. though I think the money is there no matter what though if you are consistently fielding competitive teams against each other rather than cupcakes.
  7. the article that just came out about Nebraska's peer would be a good example of the teams that a team would play as a drop in game. Teams that compare in terms of performance during the season
  8. Essentially that's what I am saying, but the opponents are scheduled based on where your team, or in our case (Neb) sets within the college landscape for the season. Conference play as it stands now establishes a pretty obvious pecking order. So say Nebraska was 4th or 5th last year. That would mean that Nebraska would play the 4/5th best team from say the SEC/Big12/Pac-12 as three non conference games. It can all be fluid, and home team determined by what ever they want to use in terms of fairness.
  9. Is there a good reason why college football schedules all games so far in advance? Furthermore is it that hard to allow for some flex scheduling during the season based on some predetermined parameters? What I mean by flex scheduling is instead of a nonconference schedules at the beginning of the year but broken up or even placed at the end of year to act as sort of a bracket buster type idea. good idea or not, why cant it happen?
  10. Landlord, I think you might have missed what I was trying to say, and I though I do agree with what you are saying, the point I am making about non subjective, and subjective is not the criteria i used, but the points assigned to them. Everything is subjective, but I took to categories that are pretty defined, wins/losses top 25 stuff, that sort of stuff, and assigned (generally through a discussion) point values. I kind of took that part out of the discussion. That is how it works though. Like I said before we can discuss what really should be in there, and the point totals regarding any all criteria I used.
  11. NUance. Absolutely, in no way did I write this up to make it seems as though my criteria is gold. We can definitely discuss what the criteria should be and rework the whole thing. Moiraine Yes, I could have used a negative point system for the losses, but regardless, the point system further differentiates the two from each other so I think it still makes for a valid comparison based on the info.
  12. I wanted to liven up the board a bit because I've noticed that its become a bit stagnant, so please be patient as I spell out what I am trying to do here. If I am like any of you, which I probably am, I just have no real clue what to expect this year. I've heard the arguments that M.R. isn't cut out for Nebraska, that his nice guy persona isn't going to fly, and the arguments that M.R. did more with less OSU than Bo did with NU. From he sucks and it was a bad hire, to he's going to take us all the way...we've all heard them. So, maybe, here is a little more concrete way to compare Mike Riley to Bo Pelini. (Background) I am currently coming up on year number 10 in the Navy. Many of those years have been in the Reserves, and for several years I've been placed in a room with several others who hold the same rank as I do. We are asked to rank other sailors based only on the information provided in their evaluations. There are areas of their evaluations that are not subjective and that all people scoring should have the same or very close to the same point totals for these areas. (Usually agreed upon through a discussion) Then there are other areas that are subjective between ranges. So if there was an evaluation of coaching careers between M.R. and Bo starting in 2008 ending in 2014....what would the area's of evaluation cover that would best represent the coach as a leader of an organization? I threw together some categories that we can play with. I provided the non subjective point totals below. Non Subjective Areas worth 10 Points Each Bowl Games Played MR 5 Bo 7 Number of Winning Seasons MR 4 Bo 7 Blow Out Wins(defined by wins of 2 TD or more) MR 24 Bo 39 Blow out Losses (defined by losses of 2 TD or more) MR 19 Bo 13 Players Drafted MR 18 Bo 25 Games Against Top 25 Teams MR 29 Bo 27 Wins against top 25 teams MR 8 Bo 10 Losses against top 25 teams MR 21 Bo 17 How I graded areas Non Subjective Bowl Games - 3 points for 1-2 games, 6 points for 3-4 games, 9 points for 5-6 games, 10 points for 7 games Winning seasons - 3 points for 1-2 seasons, 6 points for 3-4 seasons, 9 points for 5-6 seasons, 10 points for 7 seasons Blow out Wins - 2.5 points for 1-10, 5 points for 11-20, 7.5 points for 21-30, 10 points for 31-40 Blow out Losses - 2.5 points for 31-40, 5 points for 21-30, 7.5 points for 11-20, 10 points for 1-10 Players Drafted - 2.5 points for 1-10, 5 points for 11-20, 7.5 points for 21-30, 10 points for 31-40 Games Played Against Top 25 Teams - 2.5 points for 1-10, 5 points for 11-20, 7.5 points for 21-30, 10 points for 31-40 Wins Against Top 25 - 2 points for 1-2, 4 point for 3-4, 6 point for 5-6, 8 points to 7-8, 10 points for 9-10 Wins Loses Against Top 25 - 2 point for 21-25, 4 points for 16-20, 6 points for 11-15, 8 points for 6-10, 10 points for 1-5 Non Subjective Point Total Mike Riley 52.5 Bo Pelini 66.5 Rate Each coach where you think their skill sets are within each category below. Each category can be scored between 1-10 Perception (Grade on how he is perceived by his players and public) Community Involvement (What did he do outside of the game) Opponent Game Planning Player Management Staff Management In Game Adjustments Recruiting (Grade on ability to recruit vs what their recruiting classes are at the end of the recruiting cycle) Player Development (Grade on their ability to develop players vs who has the better talent at the end of a players Senior Year) Rank each coach on the Subjective Categories and then add up the points, and add to the Non Subjective Point Total I provided and answer the the poll questions. Enjoy! GBR!
  13. Marketing/Branding is much more about perception than anything else. We may not be nearly as dominant on the field as we use to be, but besides Alabama, maybe Ohio State, no one is where they once where. The college landscape and always has been pretty fluid. However, we are still in the conversation, and you should really ask yourself...Why? My two cents. We are an anomaly, with no real resource for recruits we have a winning tradition. That winning tradition has always made the Huskers a team you have to beat to win the conference/division. Even in our down years I can only remember a few years where this was not true. Nebraska is hardly ever an easy win. We consistently have stadium that is packed. Expectations are always high. A season is not measured by just wins and losses, but how we win and absolutely how we lose. The sheer amount of support we provide to the school as a fan base drives the whole train. We show up in force around the country, we dominate in fan polls, and we generally can hold our own in a college football conversation without sounding like homers. Add all of that together and perception of the team will always be high, but honestly, you remove the support of the fans and it all goes away.
  14. Who drew that line, I wonder? Who made that conflict a present issue for the players? All Bo, not debating that.
  15. I'd like to agree with this, but can't. So many other players stayed, and have had nothing but good things to say about Bo. Until former players of his come out and start slamming the guy, I tend to believe that personality conflicts with admin and the line drawn between admin and the team ultimately cost us one or more games a year. Bo did say that he hasn't ever had the support of an AD that knows football, so I guess TO doesn't count? Maybe there were conflicts there too.
  16. I'm tired after this year, I need a break.

  17. I see what you are saying, and it is a valid point. And even if you statement is sarcasm there is some truth to it.
  18. I don't buy into the fact that in order for a program to succeed you have to bring in people who "know the culture". Our culture isn't rocket science. It is a work hard, and enjoy what you have. Our history is long, and has a lot of traditions that upon talking to the fan base, one CAN be educated on them. We were spoiled by having two coaches in a span of 30 plus years (I may be wrong on the dates, but Im close), but we can't make the the deal breaking requirement. All Mike Riley has to to do is educate himself, and embrace it in a manner that he sees fit.
  19. Been at work all day, and just now getting in to see what happened in husker world today, and I'm quite shocked. I honestly don't know what to think. Is the product of what has been on the field in the last couple of years a result of a coach who hasn't learned to adjust or properly develop players, or the result of a hostile work environment that filtered out to the rest of the program? I've never worked in any type of a sports program, but I do know what a toxic work environment is and what it does. Say what you want about the pressure not being apples to apples, because in no way was I being paid as much. However, the pressure was life or death situations daily in regards to the safety and security of many people daily. As I read the different articles related, comments sections, and the actual transcripts, I think I have a bit of perspective that I'll share. Maybe you'll find it useful to wrap your head around it as I am now. My educational background is in the management of organizations, and thus these are my thoughts on this whole ordeal. People have personality conflicts (Appears to be the case between SE and BP) Building an atmosphere that draws a line between the people below you, and the people above you is a bad, very bad idea. Your direct influence can only flow downward to the people who are below you. They have two choices, fall in to your thoughts and perceptions, or leave. BP recruited these guys, hired these guys, and one can only think where their loyalties are. People who lead this way are more often then not have a narrow minded point of views, and/or have been placed into a position of authority with no formal training of leading people. (I believe this was the case with BP as he was being mentored by a CEO when he first was brought on. You have to buy into what people teach you in leadership training, and continue to develop them by reading books of people that you believe in.) In a situation where you have organizational problems and you are in a position to execute change, you are generally the part of the problem, but also part of the solution. An honest self evaluation needs to be conducted. If you can't be honest with yourself, you can't even begin to fix organizational issues. The us against them mentality can be good if it includes the whole organization. (Top to bottom) and... Generally the us vs them mentalities should only be used in a situation where you vs them is a life or death situation as it creates a very strong bond between members. (Obviously the case in the bond, not the life or death situation) This mentality gives a one way street on how the communication flows. Both sides are at war with each other, everyone else suffers. When SE took hold of the position, I believe that he had a clear idea of what he wanted in organizational characters and for whatever reason BP didn't want to, or didn't believe that SE and him can find common ground, or SE made an evaluation that BP wasn't his type of character early on. There is only one way to fix a dysfunctional organization, and that is to pull it apart and put it back together. Time will tell who is to blame in this whole ordeal. Did SE create the hostility that transferred to the field of play? Or did BP's mentality create an the atmosphere of an us against them and drew the line between the administration and the team? If other programs at Nebraska start to fall apart then I believe that SE (or the person who hired him) is the toxic component in the organization and it wasn't BP. If Nebraska continues to excel, or remain consistent, then I would have to say that the toxic component was BP. Either way, we've turned the page to a new chapter, and we should all be optimistic. The organizational conflict should be no more, and that is a good thing on all fronts, question is,...Did SE get the right guy?
  20. Here is an idea that I just kind of though of, lemme know what you think. Anyways, I keep coming back to the fact that all teams should be on an equal standing at the beginning of the year. 16 makes the most sense to me. Cut out the early non conf. and replace it at the end with meaningful match ups. 9 games played in conference to determine conference championships for all conferences. The 10th week is a match up of the top four W-L record of each conference against a different conference. Power Conference VS Non Power Conference to establish a more realistic pecking order. (Generally the smaller schools will lose, but at least that have a chance to show up) Look like this https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=674EDC75A988F4AC&id=674EDC75A988F4AC%2113384&v=3 Conference winners are automatically in. The remaining 6 teams are The first round is played at the home team with the lower seed to provide a better atmosphere for the fans, and to give some of the smaller schools a chance for some revenue. The next two rounds are played at home of the higher seed, with the last being played a geographical neutral location for both teams. Ensuring that no team has a geographical home field advantage, and played under a dome for no weather advantages. (There are plenty to cover this.) Bracket may look like this for this year https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=674EDC75A988F4AC&id=674EDC75A988F4AC%2113385&v=3 So yeah,
  21. All season long I kept hearing us fans (college football fans that is) that the AP, and Coaches Pole rankings are crap, and as we saw so very on a heavy dose of SEC in the top ten. This is the only way I can think of fixing it. Play your conference 8 games. This should allow everyone to play their division and a couple more (8 games) Play your Conference Championship, or in Big12 case their last game, and the teams that don't get to one, they just dont play(9 games) Winner of each conference is in no matter how small or big the conference is. (10 Slots..Independents just get seeded in if they qualify as an at large) 6 teams get picked as an at large bid, then seeded accordingly like basketball. Just because you got in as a conference winner doesn't mean you get a good seed. Top 16 teams play a tournament style non conference schedule to determine the champion, with the losers playing a consolation bracket to where every team in the top 16 plays the same amount of games. (14 games) Championship game is done around new years. 17-32 has their own bracket 33-48 has their own bracket and so on to ensure that all teams play almost the same amount of games. Option 1 continue current bowl structure during january Option 2 during the spring, have teams play their traditional spring game, and conduct bowl games over spring break as just exhibition games.
  22. Throughout the last week or so I have learned to expect the opposite of whatever you say. I learned that a while ago *edit* post # 187....murder
