  1. I was just about to ask if their fight song was seriously "Iowa Fight Song". That is ridiculous. Nobody could come up with a name for it after all these years? Also, why is "Hail Varsity" on there instead of "There is No Place Like Nebraska"? Space constraints?
  2. While I didn't think it was PI on Thorell, I'm ok with that call, in a vacuum it's a close one. But when earlier in the game a Michigan WR just shoved Fonzie to the ground with the ball in the air, and the Marlowe got wrapped up around the arms before the ball got there and neither of those were called... then you have to let Thorell's go. And the holding was just ridiculous. No officials in college football even call holding any more.
  3. So my Jets lose to Tebow 4 days after losing to the Pats... Saturday can not come soon enough.

    1. Excel

      Excel

Why...who do they lose to then?

  4. Nebraska first and foremost, but I root for a few other teams as well. Oregon State, TCU, Ohio and Kansas. Ohio and Kansas are for obvious reasons and would no longer remain if those coaches were ousted. When I was looking for a college to go to, I nearly chose TCU, so there lies my rooting interest there. Oregon State is kinda stupid, but there's a town Brogan, Oregon, and Gary Payton went to Oregon State and he was my favorite basketball player growing up... so I root for their football team. I know weird logic, but hey I was like 10. Pro teams are the Jets, Royals, Knicks and Flyers. I work with a guy that says his life long favorite team is the Vikings, but he now roots for the Packers also because he wants to root for a team that wins. I can do nothing but shake my head, as he's even rooting for the Packers to win tonight, and not because he wants a good draft pick for the Vikings.
  5. Seems like a big deal to someone. Because I posted what you asked me to? Just forget it. I was pointing it out, you got defensive, I retorted. blah blah blah
  6. Which is also the point Blackshirt316 made by comparing numbers. Which is what you were saying to do, right after saying not to compare numbers. You even said "comparable". Really it's not a big deal, I was just pointing out that you were telling everyone to stop comparing numbers, but compared numbers yourself. So.... why stop comparing numbers, especially when you were saying "everyone" who was comparing numbers, which would include someone who made the same point you were trying to make, much more in depth.
  7. Which is exactly what the comparisons earlier in the thread did. I don't recall a post in the thread talking about the Freshmen splitting carries three ways while Rex didn't split carries with any other Freshmen during his Freshmen year. Can you show that to me? I don't get where you're coming from. I made a valid point that Rex didn't split carries with anyone in his recruiting class and Heard/Abdullah/Green are.
  8. Plus Southern Miss (more than likely) in the C-USA championship game.
  9. Which is exactly what the comparisons earlier in the thread did.
  10. I disagree... I think he lost the ROOM to show you his speed due to how weak our O-Line has been. Exactly. When he had that crease on his 17 yard run, he exploded and looked like early last year. He just had a defender bring him down.
  11. So you compare his carries to Rex's after saying it needs to stop?
  12. It's just speculation, for crying out loud. I don't think Stanford is a lock for an at-large bid. They don't have a very strong fan base. Although having Andrew Luck in your bowl game would be appealing.
  13. While it would be difficult if I were in that situation, personally I think he's crazy for choosing the game over the Rhodes scholarship interview. That game is just one day, a Rhodes scholarship will set you up for life. I guess having a Yale education has already set him up for life though.
  14. Has that ever happened? A true freshman getting redshirted his sophomore year or later that wasn't due to injury? Virginia Tech intended to do that with Tyrod Taylor and have Sean Glennon at qb for his senior season... then they lost to East Carolina and burned his redshirt.
  15. While it's true that we have trouble containing mobile quarterbacks and have a soft run defense, I think where mobile quarterbacks have hurt us the most this year is extending the play and getting open receivers. That's where I think it bodes well for us, because Denard Robinson is no Russel Wilson, Keith Price, Kain Colter/Dan Persa, or even Braxton Miller when it comes to passing. So while I am still worried, I'm fairly confident that with his passing "skills" our defensive backfield could have a field day if he tries to throw on the run after a scramble. We just have to hope he does pass instead of taking off on the run.
  16. Well I'm not so sure it's geography so much as it is climate. When faced with 50+ degrees or snow in December, most kids will choose 50's
  17. And west of there too! Or east of Portland, Oregon. I agree though, I don't understand why Choi doesn't see more action. He's got a helluva motor.
  18. This story makes me sick. Furthermore, anyone supporting/defending Joe Paterno literally make my stomach churn.

    2. carlfense

      carlfense

Agreed. I was a Paterno fan before I knew of this stuff. Now, Paterno is scum. Sad. Sad for Penn State fans and players and sad for college football. More importantly, sad for the victims.

      all he wanted was 409.

  19. And for the players moving forward, how do they ever trust another coach? Do they all get penalty-free transfers? Are they forced to stay at PSU? This is an ugly situation and really just a no-win scenario for everybody. I hope they don't forfeit the game over, but I would understand if they did. NCAA says that any coaching changes (for any reason) or cancellation of a sport allows the students a penalty-free transfer. Any other reason for transfer is up to the school's discretion. I believe those are the only two obligatory ways out penalty free besides graduation (read Russel Wilson) and even that is enforced at the conference level. Is this a recent thing? When Ryan Mallett transferred from Michigan to Arkansas he actually fought to not have to sit out and still had to.
  20. I dislike the guy a lot. I didn't like him when he was at Florida, because I believe he is way too public about his belief system. Personally, I think he exploits Christianity for his own gain/fame. I also think he's a douche, amongst other things that I probably shouldn't go into. That was when he was in college. Fast forward to draft day, our drinking game involves finishing your drink if your team drafts Tebow, and everyone there is saying how they don't want Tebow, even the Broncos fan... who also was a giant douche. As soon as they announced the pick he goes off "YES!!!! TEBOW! TEBOW! TEBOW!". Then when the Broncos fans were all in a tizzy wanting Tebow over Orton. Why? The same reason people here want Carnes over Martinez, because it's something different. There's absolutely nothing that should make you believe the backup would be better, that's why they're not starting in the first place (unless it's a Calliban coached team). So lo and behold, Tebow becomes the starter, and promptly makes my sleeper 15th round fantasy pick Eric Decker look like less of a bargain, and now I'm always trying to decide if I should start him, Percy Harvin or Early Doucet. So yes, the cherry on top was just something stupid about fantasy football, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, haha. Basically, to me, he's the Nickelback of quarterbacks. They really suck, but I wouldn't care if they sucked if everyone weren't saying how awesome they are, and all the stations play their music all the damn time.
  21. Making major headway on the book I'm writing with my brother. If anybody is interested in western stories, look out for "Ogallala" on the horizon.

We're also planning on adapting it into a screenplay, which would be crossing something off of my bucket list.

That sounds pretty cool, I will keep my eye for it.

  22. It's an amoeba defense. It's been en vogue in the NFL lately, the Jets ran it a lot last year. I've been hoping we would utilize it at some point, as I think it give the line a bit of an advantage. The first time I've seen it in college football.
