  1. And bring in his "throw it all over the yard, PAC 12 basketball offense"???? This is freaking hilarious........ People here bitch about throwing it to much and you want the Frost offense????? Of course it is Frost, so he will do no wrong. LOL!!!!I'm assuming that since Frost is actually familiar with our program, he would formulate an offense to be successful here. I'd bet that he would call plays to the strengths of his players, something that the current staff lied about doing. His familiarity with Lincoln is not as big an advantage as everybody seems to think. 1997 was almost 20 years ago. Unlike the current staff, he has actually been in Lincoln. I realize that the current staff was getting run out of Corvallis and found a safe house in Lincoln, but this is embarrassing. At least Frost has an idea what to expect.

Frost is going to run his Oregon offense in Florida and should he come here in the distant future, he is not going to run an offense he has NEVER coached. He would bring an offense you claim to despise (Chuckle) Dream on Dream Weaver...... You mean his offense that is based on principles of Dr. Tom's? I'll take that.
  3. At least we agree on it being a mistake that we fired Solich. I disagree that NU's path to consistent success lies along the road that MSU has taken. What exactly is our path to consistent success? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say having four different coaches in the past 15 years isn't the correct path. For various reasons, we will not be able to recruit top 10 or probably even top 15 recruiting classes year in and year out. There are several programs that will out recruit us year in and year out. One of the reasons we were able to keep it rolling for so long under TO was because rarely did we lose someone from the staff. We need to pick a staff and stick with them. I want one coach for a long time. But he has to be the right coach. With Riley reaching retirement age, we should just pull the trigger now on the inevitable. I hate that we dismantled (twice) what Osborne built. I'd like to see frost return at this point. I'd rather "suffer" through his "on the job training" than continue down this true road to averageness. Because you know how there are those signs "last exist before bridge"? I feel like one is coming up during the next season or so. I'd rather suffer through OJT with a young and upcoming coach as opposed to suffering through OJT with an experienced staff who is on a downward trajectory.

  5. that good? Youre comin around faster than i thought. Anytime anyone says something like 5-7 for a record for NU in 2015, I just shake my head. That is not even being realistic. NU should be no worse than they were last year. They have too much talent to lose that many games. The only teams that will out talent them on the schedule are Miami and maybe MSU. Mike Riley would have to be completely incompetent to lose that many games with that much talent.. . . I think Riley will do well here. I don't know how many if any CCG he will win. OSU is head and shoulders better than everyone in the conference right now. That will a big obstacle to overcome. This one is good, too. I think we found the asnswer. "Mike Riley would have to be completely incompetent to lose that many games with that much talent." Drops mic>>>
  6. Again, incorrect. I'd name names, but people would have to be familiar with those teams and players.
  7. It's funny how the good ol boy club takes umbrage to newcomers whom ruffle their feathers.
  8. This entire thread is full of laffy, but this post takes the cake. The only place we had an upgrade is at LB, and I'm not so certain that Els was as bad as the system he was coaching in. Grading out the two staffs, after the season Riley = Bo (Advantage Bo in record, Advantage Riley in PR) Langsdorf > Beck (Not a fan of Langsdorf's system, but definitely less boom or bust minus TA) Banker > Papuchis (I think stopping the run is more important in the B1G, but that secondary...woof) Cavanaugh = Garrison + Cotton (Poor OL play all-around) Williams >> Fisher (Our perimeter warriors can catch now) Davis < Brown (Call it talent-based, but the RB position was poorly managed this year and underperformed with what they had) Hughes = Kaz (Both have got the DL to play within their respected systems and have movers in the middle) Bray >> Els (Bray maximized this group and will out-recruit you everyday of the week) Stewart << Warren (Different system but the secondary when from first to last nationally, and Warren was a hell of a recruiter) Read < Bo + Els (Bo took over ST last year and was #1 Nationally in ST Efficiency. Read sub-100...woof) IMO.... Bo>> Mike. Records speak volumes, and Mike's whole schtick is already played out. Beck>>Langs. Becks system is better, and a much better fit in Lincoln. There is a reason why Urb hired him. Fischer>Williams. Williams is the 2nd best on the current staff, but Rich may have been the best on the previous. Paps>>Banker. Paps was not our DC, Bo was. And Paps is doing nice things at NC.
  9. Didn't Callahan V.1 show that a pass happy, West coast style offense not fit I Lincoln? Looks like Callahan V.2 is doubling down on the stupid. It wasn't Callahan's offense that got him fired. One of the great fallacies is that Callahan ran an effective offense. More times than not, it was offensive failures that led to defensive blow ups. Sound familiar? Look at the Purdue game this year. Rl What about the Purdue game?? We played a backup qb and the rest of the team never got off the plane. Riley runs a fantastic offense if only he had a qb that did not play in hero mode all game long. Is hero ball the new term we are using? I said "hero mode" try to be more accurate when quoting. Thanks in advance. So 2 different QBs play "hero mode?" Sounds like a coaching issue.
  10. He subbed not anymore than Cav. More players played because we won by bigger margins and the second, third and sometimes the forth string played. What you are claiming is just flat out wrong. Go and watch some of the old big bowl games where the game was not yet decided. You will definitely see more rotation on the O-line than you do today. I have and was at most of them. The starters played until the game was under control which was very early most of the time. Obviously not. All Husker fans know that Milt always had a rotation, usually 7 to 8 guys.

Sound familiar? Look at the Purdue game this year.Great point. The offense did little in 2007 losses to Missouri, Okie State, and Texas A&M. It wasn't until he decided to pad his stats that the Callahan offense looked "great". It's strange how it's always the same that trash every coach. Prolly called for TO's head a time or two as well. Maybe we should hire you guys and see what type of offensive and defense you would run. "In my grandpas voice" We have to get back to the option game if we want to win. Give it to the fullback 15 times a game. A forward pass wtf is that?? Strawman much?

Incorrect. Everything was wrong with Callahan V.1. Remember USC? CM is 100% correct. It's funny how those that militantly defend Callahan V.2 also seem to wax nostalgic about Billy C.V.1.

  15. My eyes saw this staff guide the team to getting blown out 42-13 in the 3rd quarter to Purdue. That didn't pass they eyeball test, no matter how much Pedeyshine you try to rub in my eyes. You want to talk about low hanging fruit and whiners, I agree. See how many people are still hung up over blow out losses of the past regime. and still only lost by 10 points. Garbage time points at the end of a blowout. So Callahanesque. Some of us have the intellect to understand that the previous coach needed to go AND can see that the current coach is terrible. Some can't figure out that seeing the ineptitude of the current staff isn't the same as clamoring for the return of the former.

  18. The NFL is also full of elite running backs who get stuffed on third and inches, and/or shut down for entire ball games. Consistent winning football is tough, even for the professionals. The WCO is perhaps the most effective offensive system yet devised, and a decent high school quarterback knows how to run it. If you think WCO is merely a pass-happy offense, I'll put that on the list of things you don't know about football. I disagree with this statement. The WCO can be effective, but it's one of the most complex offenses in football. Most high schools and a lot of colleges have switched to the spread offense scheme because it's easier to coach and easier to run. Yes, the spread offenses may have similar philosophies with the WCO, but the spread offense has become much more effective in the high school and college game. EDIT -- The spread offenses also enable a program to have an effective offense without needing the best talent on the field. The spread offenses don't require super talent at the offensive line. They don't require QB's with rocket arms and who can fit the ball into tight spaces. They don't require a stud RB, stud WR, and stud TE. They utilize the talent they have, the best way they can. They capitalize on spreading the field and finding the number and space advantages. The WCO is great in the pros when you have a plethora of talent and a lot of time to work on timing and all the nuances that go into coverage reads and audibles. It's also good at the pros because pros want some homogeneity due to free agency. But in college, those reads are so much harder to develop due to lack of practice time. One of the big advantages of the spread is that it (a) usually takes a DB out of coverage, and (b) divides the field, and associated reads, in a way that makes it easier for QBs to identify where the open man will be based on coverage (which is why you see so much looking to the sideline for signals). Yeah,, all of what you and Colorado said are true. It's pretty much common knowledge.
  19. Ya, cuz finishing a distant 4th in what is possibly the worst division in 4th FBS is closer to winning the conference championship than actually playing in the game itself. Irony. You must not have been on this board much the past few years. Now there was some epic whining.
  20. There really is no truth to the bolded, see Purdue and Illinois. If wonder boy does what the coach says, you could cross off the Illinois issue and if TA had been well enough to play,we would have only had two picks instead of four..cough cough.. If the staff would have figured out clock management and would have actually had a QB boot in their play book, cross off Illinois. Since both QBs had their problems with the INT, the common denominator is the staff and their game plans.
  21. You need a different hobby Prolly think the last staff was better than this one too Nope...the last staff was brutal Yet still better than what we currently have.
  22. Yes he is. Which is why it makes ZERO sense that he's seen ZERO playing time. This staff has little need for the run game.
  23. There really is no truth to the bolded, see Purdue and Illinois.
  24. Remember how much discussion we had on that play after the Illinois game? Odd that no one mentioned the same play--run correctly--after the Michigan State game. I guess there's nothing to discuss when things are executed correctly, huh? This is a classic case of a "call plays that work" mentality. When the play works as designed no one says a thing, but let it get screwed up and by gawd the coaches need firing! Yeah. Funny what happens when you call a run play, as opposed to a "tagged" pass play.
