  1. I'm not sure most of you learned much today, since everybody in the game thread seemed to be yelling for Langsdorf to use Ozigbo to pound Oregon...and that was spot on. Maybe Newby could have done the same. An overwhelming majority of people on this forum hate a 3 man rush on 3rd and long, because the 3 man rush has only paid off three times out of 19,473,872 times it has been tried in the history of football. So that was already common knowledge on this forum, nothing learned there today. Nobody learned anything about Westerkamp today that they didn't already know. Did anybody just now realize today that Armstrong can put a dagger into a defense's heart with his running?...Thought not... Okay, here is one thing that I learned: That Reimser kid is a ham actor. Give him a bit part for one play in front of a big crowd and he makes it all about himself, stealing the spotlight with an over the top TD and a dramatic stretch for the goal line. He still gets an Oscar from me, though. I like theatrics. My one and only b!tch: No way Nebraska should have had enough Gatorade left at the end of the game to dump on Riley if Armstrong had cramps. Every drop should have been put down Tommie's throat with a funnel...then we steal Oregon's Gatorade to baptize Riley.
  2. I just finished watching that Penn State / Miami national championship game. The guy who had Michael Irvin hearing footsteps for 3 1/2 quarters and knocked Alonzo Highsmith out for part of the first quarter was 5'9", 180 lbs. and run the 40 in 4.8...
  3. So which of you are still planning to hook up with this..."guy"?
  4. Between the targeting rules and the gender ID bs coming down in places like North Carolina, this is not out of the realm of possibility:
  5. Really?... You should all be so very proud of your newest West Coast friend.
  6. Calling an act "egregious" condemns it by definition. e·gre·gious əˈɡrējəs/ adjective adjective: egregious 1. outstandingly bad; shocking. I think I have chewed on this bone long enough.
  7. That is more of a mistake in execution, as opposed to poor behavior. I want to make it clear that I don't equate a false start with someone showing poor character or sportsmanship.
  8. But it wasn't. One can't aways count on somebody else's bad choice canceling out their own bad choice. Gerry's behavior doesn't stand or fall on what somebody else did or didn't do, does it?
  9. Unfortunately, one can't rely on team captains to stop it, since one of them is the biggest offender.
  10. They know all about it. Back in the day pounding out short, cryptic messages one letter at a time was called the "telegraph". We sh!t canned it about a hundred years ago when we found out communicating live by voice and in real time was infinitely superior. In another ten years, you guys will figure out the same thing. I bet your generation believes it invented putting a shot of each flavor of pop into a cup as well and calling it "suicide", doesn't it?
  11. The taunting / excessive celebration / unnecessary roughness after the whistle penalties aren't "heat of the battle, trying to make a play" type mistakes, they are an attitude or mindset that can be purged rather easily. Someone named Riley just has to take hold of the problem and deal with it before it bites him and his team in the butt. For a thousand bucks and gas money, I can drive down the next home game and will make sure no player will EVER commit a second stupid foul, if given the authority to remedy it. As the Army used to say: "We can't make you do anything you don't want to do, but we can sure make you wish you would have."
  12. Actually, you are offering excuses, not a correction.
  13. Gerry is on a four game streak for "bad behavior": Two ejections, a suspension, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. I would like to see him break this against Oregon.
  14. Maybe make Rose-Ivey a deal: A No sit Saturday in exchange for no personal foul / unsportsmanlike conduct / excessive celebration penalties down on the field by the players.
  15. Well, a 2-0 Huskers team boosts the perception of the Big 10 more than a 1-1...
  16. Five interceptions means that the defenders at least are looking for the ball, which is a huge step forward. Also a conference booster, since interceptions last year were slightly less common than miracles. Good deal. I think Nebraska might have reached the high water mark for the season for a single game performance, but let's watch and see.
  17. I can't say yes or no to this, but I know that Jerry Gdowski could only be run down from behind consistently in practice by one other Cornhusker...Kenny Walker*. According to 40 times, Gdowski should have been able to be caught by several others, one of them NOT being Kenny Walker. That being said quicker is always better than slower, unless one is running the wrong way. *You younger guys go look these two players up if you don't know who they are.
  18. Last chance for Mike Riley to fix the needless and not so smart penalties before they cost us dearly. This isn't rocket science, it's a force of wills thing. Unfortunately, yanking an offender in the Wyoming game to teach him the lesson he needs to learn before going into the Oregon game is no longer an option. I guess we'll see what transpires... I was sure Ozigbo looked injured there for a moment. I thought the Newby / Ozigbo debate was going to be settled with an X-ray / MRI. Riley got the backups into the game again, good for everybody! This is trading for valuable experience with the backups by giving up the opportunity to get your first string hurt for no good reason. What's not to like about that? The ranks of the unbeaten are thinned yet again this week, Nebraska still marching. Assign whatever value you want to that fact.
  19. As for Desmond Howard's comments, consider the source. Some old guy trying to remind everybody he was somebody back in the day.
  20. I think some of the votes Nebraska received were from southern coaches miffed that Charles Woodson "stole" the Heisman from Peyton Manning on what they thought was showmanship over substance. That being said, how does anyone give the championship to a 12-0 team that did not have a convincing bowl win instead of a 13-0 team that trounced their bowl opponent...which featured the above mentioned Manning. I would have welcomed a chance to bet on Nebraska in this mythical matchup between these two national champs.
  21. This is my first time thinking that way, so can't I get a second chance? My worry is that injuries might make this decision for us. This is, after all, the Big 10 and not the SEC or Big 12 it's a meat grinder conference. No team in this conference gets through the season unscathed. I am thankful we have to good backs pushing each other and ready to carry the load if the other one falters or falls. Lastly, I'm definitely not going to worry about this issue when someone else gets paid big bucks in Lincoln to figure it out. After all, Riley hasn't ever offered to help me to do my job...
  22. Yep, one of those could keep you out. Those other three remind me of what Jim Skow's NFL coach used to say about his size: "If he's good enough, he's big enough."
  23. Since I haven't seen either of them practice even once and since I don't know what the game plan is for Wyoming, Oregon, or beyond, I would not be able to make an intelligent decision based on what I haven't see and don't know.
  24. So can these things come about through strength and conditioning and practice? Was the bobsled guy from Shelby as fast as he was ever going to get the first day he showed up at Lake Placid to try out?
