  1. I completely understand how you feel. I really don't like the attitude surrounding the program right now. My math may be off, but the point is that location hurts more schools than it helps. There are places that have a lot worse locations than ours and have found consistent success. Location plays a factor, but the best recruiting tool available is winning trophies. Where?
  2. I am not claiming that our division titles mean as much as a conference championship. Just pointing out that TO didn't win an outright conference title till his 8th year.

^This. I have no idea how the players would react if Pelini is fired. It is not a secret that the players love him and want him to be their coach. If you fire a guy they like, they could rebel and not play hard for the next coach. We'd probably see a bunch of players transfer also. I'd predict a mass exodus of players and a lot of the kids with NFL futures leaving early. I personally wouldn't think Ameer would come back for his senior year.
  4. You don't defend it. You accept it. This is Nebraska and with all the disadvantages we face, we can never be an elite program again. I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but if it's not, that's just wrong. We have top notch facilities, a fanbase that always shows up, we are in a great conference with it's own network, an athletic department that doesn't operate in the red, no in state competition, and good academics. If a coaching staff can't turn that into success, there is a problem. Does location hurt us? Not that much. Location is working against about 85% of schools out there. Kids commit to the situation more often than location. We should never drop out of the top 25, and we should FINISH in the top 15, if not top 10, more often than we don't. Maybe the school isn't helping the staff enough, maybe the staff is just inadequate(spelling?), or maybe both. But, everybody is tired of this crap. Changes need to be made and it's time to start fixing the problem. The status quo isn't working, and it isn't acceptable. Location doesn't work against 85% of schools and location absolutely is a big part of where kids sign.
  5. MSU's time of possession was somewhere north of 38 minutes. Wow.

I thought we did fine tempo wise, we used no huddle and had a 4 minute 80 yard TD drive I believe.

ZRod, we may have had a food drive in there somewhere. Good for us. We put a good drive together. I'm baking some cookies for the team and getting pats on the back lined up for everyone.

Most of the time we no huddle - no sub and wait to 10 to 5 seconds to center the ball. Just keeping the D from making subs

  6. This would be easier to say yes or no to if it were a cut and dry case. But it isn't.
  7. Actually we were conference co-champions i/e we tied for 1st in Osborne's 3rd and 6th year in the Big 8. Yes. But counting those is like counting every time we played for it as a conference championship. How so? Why did the final standings not reflect this, and why weren't we selected to play in BCS bowls? Im missing the point of your post.
  8. The mix of sarcasm and my thought of you missing the context of my post had me confused.

  11. Well that's f'ing idiotic then. You can't have a twice concussed qb be your qb of the year. Should we keep his offer, of course. But you get another guy. If Bo thinks like you do, he's a pea brain. Hahahahahaha.
  12. If Bo was being retained for certain, the athletic department surely would have made a statement saying as much by now wouldn't they? No. If they say something then they are addressing controversy. If they don't say anything then there is nothing to talk about. This. It's the kiss of death for any coach when the school says anything
  13. Osborne was getting blown out on occasion by Oklahoma.....and not winning the conference.....which had 8 teams. By 1988 Osborne still hadn't won a conference title? I need to brush up on my Nebraska football history. Yes, Osborne won conference titles, but certainly not every year....in a conference with 8 teams. Roughly equivalent to winning your 6 team division in a 12 team conference. That's why Osborne points out Pelini's division championships. I disagree with it being an equivalent, but thanks for the clarification. Osborne won his first conference title in year 8
  14. We won't take another one. Darlington is our QB
  15. When does the responsibly fall back on the players?
  16. Im shaking my head at some of this. It's so cliche, but the back up is always better than the guy playing now. Having said that, I have said for awhile now that I think we are going to have an all out war at the QB position this spring.
  17. Walton and Mosley will both get bumps I would imagine.
  18. For us to be even in this game with 5 TOs is a pretty good coaching day when you are missing the pieces we were. Martinez at 80% is better than every other QB on our roster. By a lot. These two things.
  19. Really unfortunate. To be completely honest though, I thought we won the LOS on both sides of the football and our guys didn't back down. Its really hard to swallow now, but we wont see an OL or a DL that good the rest of the year and in bowl season we should be closer to full strength.

Maybe our next coach will have that authority....if we can get him to leave his current job at Colorado.

Valentine was a force in the middle. Can't wait to see the guy develop.

  20. Yep that Bo Pelini just can't hang on to the ball. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have had a turnover. We've been negative TO margin 5 out of 6 years under Bo. -28 in TO margin in his 6 years. Sloppy. Don't pretend it's just one game. This. A million times this. To suggest that the fumbles, muffed punts, dropped passes, etc. have nothing to do with the coaching staff and their effect on these kids is ridiculous in light of the fact that these mistakes happen again and again. If you watched any of the small little clips on the news from spring and fall ball you would know that holding the football was a huge emphasis. If this were a black and white issue it wouldn't be up for debate. But the fact of the matter is that there is only so much coaching that can be done and at some point you have to put the responsibility on the ball carrier. They go hand in hand. To me, the question is at what point do you blame which party?
  21. Not disagreeing with you there. The frustraiting part for me is I truly think we were more talented and a better team top to bottom. But we made way too many mistakes to honestly claim that we deserved to win this one. We just racked up a ton of yards (and should have been more yards and points) against "the nation's best defense. We had more rushing yards on one play than they were giving up on average in whole conference games. That all happened with an OL held together by duct tape and super glue. We had two walk-on wide receivers playing the majority of the game because we are so banged up. Did they ever say what happened to Alonzo Moore? That would really suck to lose him. Jamal Turner would have helped a ton today.
  22. We spread them out and got their LBs away from the LOS. Then Cross was able to do what he did. I saw the play develop from where I was in the South Endzone. Any one of us could have ran through that hole for at least 20 yards.
  23. Not to give up 41 points. Or letting them convert over half of their third downs. Coaches are responsible for the substandard mental readiness and lack of discipline their team shows. Unless I was that drunk in the late 90's and forgot the part where Tom Osborne blamed a player for not executing his brilliant gameplan. You don't watch a lot of football do you? Our defense didn't give up 41 points. Yeah, they did. Sure the offense put them in bad positions but they gave those points up. Every. Single. One. Excusing the defense for that is fine, but then you need to admit Nebraska sucks. Because they suck. Hard. You are being completely unreasonable if you honestly put 41 points on the defense. How about our freshman QB not give MSU the ball inside our own ten twice that lead to 14 points? You can't be serious by blaming that on the defense. 24 points off of our turnovers. Was the offensive play calling perfect? By no means. I was shouting at the top of my lungs when we ran a slow developing read play with the slowest RB on our roster. But dear Lord there is no way you can honestly say that our defense is responsible for giving up 41 points.
