  1. The receiving group this year is definitely a talented bunch. As it has been for the past few years. The speed element has surely gone up big time with guys like Kyler Reed at TE, and the additions of Kenny Bell and Jamal Turner at the wideout position. To me, the receivers have not really been the biggest issue here nor will they be this year. We have to get a guy that can distribute the ball to them. We also have to have an offensive line that will give that Quarterback enough time to make his reads and find the best option. The best thing about this is that Beck sounds like he is really going to simplify things for the Quarterback. Giving him a select number of plays in which he is comfortable with to audible to at opportune times. Simplifying routes, simplifying blocking schemes, simplifying the whole damn offensive playbook......I think this was preached for years under the Watson regime. Thank the Lord that time is over. I just can't wait to see this new offense executed.
  2. Suh is an absolute animal and is the most dominant defensive lineman to hit the college or pro ranks that I think I have ever seen. Now this fine example video above just shows me that the NFL has gone so overboard with protecting the QB position that it has really gone to the QB's heads. I mean, Dalton's helmet came off just from being grabbed. The damn thing was already off before he ever hit the ground.....you know why? Because these pansies come out there so protected and so untouchable that the damn fools don't even strap up their helmets. Suh may have been overboard, but the kid's helmet flying off sure made it look a bit more offensive.......... Hey Dalton! Your a football player, not a damn dancing fairy, strap the damn thing on like it is intended to be.
  3. I think we will find out almost all we need to know about this starting defensive line in the first week of B1G play. I think the depth is going to pay off big this year. Wisconsin will surely test us up front probably better than anyone else will all year. They have the biggest offensive line in the conference and they love to pound the rock. I think we will hold up, but we will have to stay fresh out there because let's face it guys......we have not faced a team in a long time that will line up and pound the rock like Wisconsin does. From everything I've gathered, they have two of the best backs we will see all year too. That is two of the best behind Rex Burkhead.
  4. It's funny. I've read a few articles from Sipple of the LJS talking about these so called technique changes at the defensive back position. Yet, I watched the post practice video on Huskers.com the other day and Sipple clearly asked Pelini about these changes. Pelini had no clue what the hell Sipple was talking about. In short Pelini said, changes? what changes? why would I want Dennard to change anything, he's great at what he does and should keep doing it. Sounds to me like the new coach is making some waves with his own technique and Pelini is not aware of it. I don't know how it will be handled from there but I found it interesting that Pelini had no idea his new coach was changing things up at what has been the strongest part of our defense the past couple years.
  5. Holy snikes! Did he just say that he will do with this offensive whatever the players are capable of and feel comfortable with. You mean, you build your scheme around the talent you have? Wait a minute Shawn Watson? Your telling me your not supposed to try to shove the same offense down the kids throats when you just don't have the players to execute that 300 page thick playbook of yours? Genius!
  6. I don't think there's even a debate on this one. Rex is and should be the horse this year and rightfully so. He has proven his worth. In my opinion he is one those backs that only get better as the game goes on and the more carries they have. We would sorely miss him and this year he will make Husker fans remember the old days of the grinder at running back.
  7. Throwing out predictions is one thing, but saying there is a chance we will win or lose each game is just kind of a no brainer.
  8. In my opinion, there is a chance that we could lose any of the games on our schedule. There is also a chance that we could win any of the games on our schedule. If we prepare the way we are taught, work as hard as we can, show devotion to ourselves and to our teammates, then the talent and abilities of the players on our rosters has a very good chance to outshine the talent on other rosters. Thank God we play the games. It makes Saturdays so much more fun. I couldn't imagine if all we had was this preseason bull crap to read. Some of the quotes here lately are hilarious. Robsker from above, not to single you out but you sound like a lot of folks I hear........ "Michigan State, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Washington, and Iowa as regular season foes... it is easy to see us losing to any one of these teams (it would not be a surprise at all). It is also easy to see us beat any of these teams... again that would be no surprise." I mean, isn't that pretty much a Captain Obvious quote of the year. So your saying you wouldn't be surprised if we won or lost half of our schedule? Ummmmm......no kidding? Isn't that kind of the way football works? Two teams line up, and one of them loses in the end of the 60 minute game? I think they designed it to where if there's a tie, there is a thing called overtime to determine the winner even yet. I know I'm being a smartass, but folks need to lower their expectations and let the damn season play out. Watch the games, have a blast, have a beer, have some friends, just have a good time. It's football season. What the hell would we do without it? Win or lose, you know your gonna watch, and if you don't root the boys on even in losing fashion, then your fanhood is revoked in my opinion. So if we go 9-3 so what? What the hell is wrong with that? Not too bad if you ask me. Of course, we'll have the same band of rednecks that ran around calling for Solich's head calling for Martinez to be benched, Bo to be fired, or Beck to be banished. It makes me laugh, but also gets old.
  9. I'm really looking forward to the season. This change of conference has really made this season over the top. We fit in the B1G and I hope folks will grow to appreciate that. Forget the old, we belong in the new. This will be some good football folks. Good solid smashmouth ball, will big ole' boys up front on O and D. Best linebackers in the country all trying to imprint their forearm into your throats. Hard hitting safeties, and tenacious cornerbacks. Solid Qb's with hard nosed RB's (Rex Burkheads).......gonna love watching that kid run that damn ball! Some fullback lead blockers, hopefully we see some of that on our side. Weather will be a factor! Field condition will be a factor! Coaching will be key, playmakers will be known, legends will be made hell yea! It's almost time.
  10. I pray the broken elbow is not on his throwing arm......(sarcasm)? maybe?
  11. I've got to agree with comments made by knapplc above. I'm sure any of these radio hosts and sports columnist would love to know how much Nebraska fans fret over the ignorant asinine comments they all have about the split of the Big 12. I'm sure Texas and Missouri fans would love to know that all this banter is getting under the skin of so many Husker fans. I unfortunately get stuck listening to a self righteous no-logic radio show host named Kevin Keetzmen (not sure on spelling, nor do I care)........he is a real Husker hater and will bend all facts and logic to make the story follow his personal beliefs. I can't get mad when I hear it though. I laugh at their sourness. I mean, if they are all so happy that we left, then why the hell do they seem so damn mad!? Right? In short, I think we are all better off. Nebraska is a true fit in the B1G. Nebraska fans who haven't accepted that I think no doubt will soon grow to love it in the Big 10. I wish the former conference well. I don't know if things are going to work out very well for the bottom 5 or 6 teams in the Big 12 that will probably find themselves at the bottom of the league every year. Only they can control their own destiny and it is no longer our problem. I hope we meet Texas in the National Championship game in the near future.
  12. Barney does need to show me he can coach these guys up and finish their damn blocks though. Our aggressiveness has been lacking up front. We just don't go out there and smash guys in the mouth much anymore. But the other side of that coin is the fact that I really don't think Watson's offense complimented Cotton's style of coaching. This staff was just thrown together in the beginning with some old familiar faces. It just didn't seem like anybody was having much success trying to coach alongside Shawn Watson. Most of all though I think Cotton's style really never fit in well with Watson. Thankfully, that man is gone ( I know some of you disagree with it, but I begged for years for his release), soon we will see how Beck and Cotton merge to form an offense.
  13. This year will be the first year we really start to see the talent on our offensive line. We've recruited very well up front and have some top notch young guys ready to make an impact up front. Sirles, Moore, Rodriguez and Qvale will step up, and incoming center/guard Ryne Reeves is gonna be a pitbull up front. Caputo is great, but hopefully when Reeves makes the transition to center, the rest of the offensive line will develop the smashmouth attitude that Reeves has. Cole Pensick was also a really hard nosed player, but I really haven't heard a lot about how people think his transition to the offensive side of the ball is going to work out.
  14. The offensive line is going to blow open some huge gaps this year! ( If I say it with enough confidence it will make it reality, right?). I'm really hoping the offensive line comes together very strong this year and I have every reason to believe it will. With that in mind, I don't think you'll find a more instinctive back in the B1G, possibly in the country than Rex. I'm a huge Burkhead fan, but I really think his vision and effort after contact is one of those things that just can't be taught. This guy has got it, and if the offense gives him the chance, I expect Rex to come out of this season as a Top 3 back in the country.
  15. I think Bubba will take the money and begin his baseball career. Who could blame him? Not I. You just don't get an opportunity like the one he has. To play ball for his hometown Royals for the kind of money he will see. I think the decision has already been made. I think Nebraska fans should not get too worried about the quarterback situation. It might seem dire, but really I think we are going to be more than fine. Martinez will most likely start, with Carnes at number 2. I have liked Kellogg from day one and really like his timing and pocket presence. He could surprise a lot of people and be very solid for us if needed. The best part will be when Brion, and Broekemeier become the top contenders for the starting job in two years, then Jamal Turner moves back into the mix. Really excited about Broekemeier and Carnes.
