  1. Not at all complicated when you realize the one big factor that changed this season. Two, if you consider that three of the biggest playmakers on the team went to the NFL. From the secondary???
  2. I'm not asking for anyone to be fired. But regarding the bolded, no they haven't.... The line looked their best in the wins. Even looked solid against Minnesota. But you can go back to Miami of last year, Fresno State last year, and a handful of other wins (since we are only picking "certain points") to see that this line is the same as it was last year. I might even say less consistent this year, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because of a new system. True2, I like Riley, I hope he figures whatever he needs to out and is successful. But at the same time, this year's line is what it is: not very good. Hopefully Cavanaugh can figure out why. I agree they're not very good this year, I just said they have looked better at times this season than they ever did last season. I tend to give Ameer Abdullah a lot of credit for much of the statistics and wins last season. It's hard for me to say an offensive line made up of Jake Cotton, Mark Pelini, and Sterup was all that impressive.

  4. Its game day! Time to find anything we can to bitch about!

  5. Sounds fair to me, too. But I would like to know when is this "coaching guys up" supposed to start. If I had any say in the matter, it would have started sometime before the Northwestern game. This statement is such garbage. There have been times this season that the offensive line has looked the best they have in years in this program. During certain games in this season the run blocking and especially the pass blocking has looked pretty good. Then during those same games it all falls apart and looks terrible. From one drive to the next you don't know which group you're gonna get. It comes back to that word "consistency". Consistency has been Nebraskas biggest struggle for a very long time. It still doesn't mean the guys haven't done anyhing right. They just don't do it often enough. Especially in that Northwestern game.
  6. http://www.scout.com/college/nebraska/story/1604252-cavanaugh-says-no-to-offensive-line-rotation Hmmm.....shows what you know I guess. I'm gonna assume Cav has the edge in knowledge of the situation. Teams do not do an offensive line rotation, they just don't. Starting five should gel, have chemistry, and should be able to get the job done. They aren't. There is an obvious gap in the ability of the guys behind the starting five. I'd say that was pretty obvious when Gates got injured and we saw how it went for the guy that took his spot. Cavanaugh says if they were good enough, they'd be playing. Maybe we give Cavanaugh a bit of time to get some of his guys in here, or at the very least coach up some of the guys already on the roster before we go calling him an idiot. Sounds fair to me. How the hell is anyone expecting miracles from this years offensive line after watching last years offensive line? If that was the best we had last season, then we could've assumed that maybe we were in trouble a little bit? No? Okay I guess not. I keep expecting logic and thinking to prevail. It's obviously a real struggle for some. The old "wait till he gets his guys" argument. Wait till Riley gets his guys and we can be, well .500..... Awesome. That small (and possibly inaccurate snippet) shows a line that has horrible technique, footwork, balance, etc, Cavs had these guys for what? 9 months? At what time does he take ownership of "these" guys? A rotation doesn't mean a whole new group every series. It means getting guys into the rotation to build depth, experience keep guys fresh and ironically build chemistry. You know with the WHOLE team, not just 4 or 5 other guys.... Maybe we should fire these guys, and then we can talk about how long it should take the next guys to "take ownership". It'll be like one giant expensive merry go round all while we f#*k Nebraska football into the dirt! Yay! We are 3-5, dead last in pass defense, close to last in penalties per game. We lose to Iowa or MSU at home, and if memory serves me correct we will have the first losing season at home. We lost our first home opener since I can't remember when. I think this season so far is pretty much in the dirt. Maybe Riley pulls it out. Instead of barbs back and forth all night, riddle me this. What in Riley's resume gives you the confidence/faith/belief he can turn NU into a dominant program? I just don't see him being the guy. He's nicer, maybe we lose by less with no blowouts (still have Iowa and MSU), but that's not why he was hired. Nothing. Nothing about his resume' says I should expect any better. These aren't "barbs", this is reality and the world we live in. Ya'll act like we were some dream boat that Riley has ran ashore. I don't see it that way. It's really unfortunate that we haven't been able to be consistent enough to win these close games. Sadly, the idiots are all the loudest right now and Riley and his football team have given them the ammunition because in all reality, wins and losses is all there is....... I'm hopeful that with a clear plan, a strong recruting effort based on that plan, and a bit of effort from all involved, these 13 points go our way next year and we get to claim to be SO MUCH BETTER than everyone else again.
  7. "The old wait til' he get's his guys argument"...... Forgive me if I'm still chuckling about that...... Maybe these guys aren't good enough? What then? Should Cav own that? He didn't recruit the guys.... Weird how the youngest of the bunch is the best of the bunch too. Totally weird. Who took ownership of the offensive line before Cavanaugh came? Does he still have any ownership? Or did he get to bail out and kind of scapegoat it on to someone else? You and some of your buddies here like to act like Cavanaugh was handed a Mercedes and is driving it like a Volkswagon. In reality, this Volkswagon has looked better than it has in a long time at certain points of this season. Might get better if we give it a little more time....... Or let's fire all these guys and start over! Yay!

  9. On the referee's behalf, I'm glad the strap of Bo Pelini's hat didn't contact the ref, but man if that sucker had come around in hit the ref in the eye! WooWee! This dipsh*t could've got assault charges pressed on him right there on Tom Osborne Field! Now that would've been hilarious! (not for the ref obviously)
  10. If this had any semblance of coherency I'd try to respond. So don't.......? I can't figure why you even typed that part? Seems like you like to instigate.

It's obviously a real struggle for some. I just don't understand the "get his guys" argument. We have won 9 or more games for several years in a row. How many years do we have to be a laughing stock before MR has enough of his guys? I'm hoping not more than this one. The only ones doing all the laughing are you "Husker" fans.
  12. I'm gonna love it if the young guys on this team are just building this season, learning technique and establishing their own chemistry, then come out next season and just kick some ass. I know, I might be being a little too positive in hoping that, but what can I say? I'm a Husker fan and I just can't grasp this whole idea of laying all the blame on a brand new coaching staff in their first season. I guess I'm just weird like that. Forgive me for wanting to see a little bit more before I declare this whole thing a HUGE FAILURE and run off to my hello kitty pillow and cry my eyes out.
  13. This is what worries me the most if the staff stays intact (besides the losses). If I am an OL, I'm looking elsewhere. If I am a second stringer and he basically says "I suck", and no chance to prove myself in a game, I am probably looking elsewhere. Gosh, good thing you're not. Some football players look for competition and see playing at Nebraska as an opportunity. Especially if they believe in their coach. I guess if we have a mass exodus of offensive linemen this season we will know that they don't believe in what Cavanaugh is doing. How are we looking on the offensive line recruting front? I thought it was looking strong with a few top notch commits and a couple really good ones possible?..........

  15. 2011- Lost 28-25 to Northwestern 2012 - Lost 36-30 to UCLA (Oregon State beat UCLA two weeks later) 2012- Won 29-28 to Northwestern (what's this about gimme teams we didn't even consider losing to before?) I sure considered it a possibility that day. 2012 - Lost 70-31 to Wisconsin (we lost to them this year, they've never been a gimme team) 2013 - Won 37-34 to Wyoming (boy that sure seems like a gimme team that I considered losing as a real possibility) 2013 - Lost 34-23 to Minnesota (uh oh, here's another counter punch to the bogus claim that the "teams we've lost to were the gimme teams we didn't even consider losing to last year or before") 2013- Won 27-24 to Northwestern (close call for a gimme team we never considered losing to before) 2014 - Won 31-24 to McNeese St. (gimme team? or no? depends on the agenda I guess) I've done enough already to completely debunk that garbage you typed. Don't come to Huskerboard and make up fairyland garbage. We got enough people doing that here already.
  16. Even I thought the secondary would be better. Then I watched them play this season and realized I was wrong. Not complicated. These boys are used to being in a system that kept a lot of things in front of them, and when they didn't, they knew they had help over the top. Hard to fail with 7 in coverage. AND EVEN THEN.....we watched them do some of the same things they are doing now like not turning back for the ball, not keeping their hands active and hand fighting, or completely losing leverage and allowing players to complete their routes unphased. It's magnified this season because they are in a situation where the magnifying glass is solely on them when the ball is in the air. Playing DB in this type of system is not for the weak minded, or the fundamentally weak. Nebraska has constantly changed out secondary coaches in recent history, one of them even called out the toughness and mindset of the players in the secondary here. Something about being able to take a punch and punch back. Banker and Stewart will get their guys. They will build them fundamentally and technically where footwork will be an emphasis. Those players will get beat too, in this system you will get beat, but when those players who are strong technically and fundamentally get beat, they will be able to revert back to their technique and what they've been taught, and make the next play. Right now we are seeing guys get beat and revert back to the way they used to do things, and then it gets sloppy. It's really easy to see it if you watch. I can make GIF's of some very evident ones if anyone would like.
  17. Slow developing plays with linemen pulling was a bad idea because we were having success running it straight at them? Or you wanted us to get "more creative"? Which is it? We averaged 2 yards a carry. You've got six GIF images staring you in the face showing you our offensive line was out-matched, but you want to run the ball more and maybe even throw in a few more wrinkles? Holy Moly, man women and child you would put us in the gutter! Thankfully Huskerboard does not call the plays or we'd really be in trouble.
  18. Illinois is the only game this season that falls squarely on this coaching staff.
  19. 9 games into Bo's first season he had two blowouts to the tune of 52-17 and 62-28. Those mostly disappeared the next two years, but then reared their extremely ugly heads all of the next four seasons. Riley's been in every game thus far. Without making a claim about that specifically, I'll say that if Riley can start winning more of the close ones, and gets to the 9/10 win average, while avoiding the 50+ to 30- blowout games, he'll be just fine. Those bad losses... has NU played any teams this season that were of the caliber of those opponents? But I'm glad you're onboard with no canning .700 coaches. Nope, we sure have not. But we will later, and my guess is we won't get depantsed by MSU and Iowa. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm on board with Nebraska canning Bo Pelini, because it was pretty obvious that he wasn't the answer for our program, nor was our program what he wanted. I don't have a blanket philosophy that all .700 coaches should be fired. So always keep the blowouts in mind, because they matter obviously, but they seem to be clouding everyone's memory of all the slim victories and close calls against these very same teams that we are SO MUCH MORE TALENTED than. Thankfully, Taylor Martinez, Ameer Abdullah, Rex Burkhead, Ndamukong Suh, and Alex Henery were all Huskers. Who has filled those shoes this season in those 5 games that have went the other way by the slimmest of margins?
  20. It amazes me how many people are willing to defend Bo Pelini. I can't understand it. It's craziness. It's almost a sickness. How can a Nebraska fan have any respect for the guy? He's got no respect for you. He hates your program. He wishes he had never come here and he wanted to get out a long time ago. It's your fault Husker fans. It's your fault Eichorst. We made this too hard for him and it almost cost him his life or eventually would have....right? He's poisoned what was once one of the most unified fan/team relationships in the history of this game. If you'd have told me that one guy would come into this program and create so much division and toxicity, I'd have said NO WAY, NOT HERE. It won't ever happen at Nebraska. Instead, some of the classiest fans in the country, and a team that is usually full of some of the most passionate, classy, loyal, committed, hard working, non-stop high integrity type of players, is now full of resentment for the very people that load the stadium 90,000+ strong, even when some players make it obvious as ever that they don't want to be here and they hate playing for the Big Red. We've got a Husker legacy player flipping off the Husker crowd? How the hell could a kid whose father played as an All American Center at Nebraska, now have such a lack of respect for this program? If a legacy player feels that way, imagine some of Bo's even more loyal minions who aren't born and bred Husker red....... And we've got fans who still jock ride the guy who preached this garbage every Sunday like a pastor to the church.
  21. No kidding. Pelini is gone and we replaced him with a nicer person, but a much worse football coach. It will take a few more seasons to say that with any accuracy. Actually, he could be 100% accurate right now, but you could indeed claim it would take a few seasons to confirm it. Of course. That's the whole point. If NU tanks this seasons, i.e., loses out, this staff should be summarily fired and Frost or gill or just about anyone else should be brought in. There would be absolutely no excuse for such a collapse, and it would all but confirm this was the wrong hire. Waiting 3 to 4 years to confirm it would be a waste of time and would risk NU falling into true obscurity. Good thing your voice has no impact on anything. Sounds like you've got a real clear plan there. Fire everybody and bring in ANYBODY!
  22. http://247sports.com/Bolt/Cavanaugh-Theres-a-gap-40616554 Get him cm husker! This focker Cavanaugh thinks he know more about coaching the offensive line than you do! That derty sumbeach!
  23. I'm partially with you, trust me, I didn't expect this staff to come in and put up this record. It's a miserable win/loss record. And if win/loss record was all I looked for in determining who is/isn't a good football coach, then we'd have a discussion here. Unfortunately, Bo Pelini's record as a leader of men is included in his resume' as a coach. I think sometimes that part can even be the more important part when it comes to the Head Coach. Position coaches are there for a reason. As the Head Coach, I saw Bo Pelini struggle in a lot of aspects that Riley destroys him in. A clear plan, a calm demeanor, trusting your players and coaches to do their jobs, and the simple knowledge of how to treat people and talk to people, can go a long ways. You may not see the results from these things as quickly as you'd like, but I have a deep belief that these things eventually take root and build the culture of your program. It just takes time. This season is a culmination of so many unfortunate things that have happened in this program. It's hard for me to sit here and say that these coaches "suck", when I see so much "suck" from so many aspects of this team. I'd like to see Riley get the time to bring his own brand of leadership into the program and in no way do I feel like he has full ownership of this team yet. I really think this guy get's it and can end up doing well here. He's really stepped into a tough situation. Unfortunately, every single time we've been within a play of ending these negative discussions, we've instead fueled them. 5 games by 13 points, just unbelievable really, and truly unfortunate.
