  1. It's a sad day when we have to start using this excuse for a poor performance. Mostly focusing on OSU here. They are having an off day. Is it because the start time? Or is it because they're facing an opponent that got destroyed the last 2 weeks and overlooking them. It could be that Purdue is playing out of their minds on defense in forcing 4 TOs. We were hyped 2 weeks ago, let up a big play on d, then started pressing. The game happened, we lost and we need to learn from it. And stop bringing it up when someone plays them better than us.
  2. Different game times, it's a hell of a lot easier to get psyched up for a prime time game at home against us then a noon start game against Purdue. Before Miller's run, we were doing the same exact thing. After the run our defense lost its mojo. You can't use the transitive property in football. Each and every game is different.
  3. O'Hanlon was pretty fast. I think he ended up running a sub 4.5 40, and he did end up chasing that WR down at VT. I wouldn't put O'Hanlon in the same tier that Thorell is in. Thorell was solid, but had some physical limitations. O'Hanlon was great on a great defense.
  4. I was listening to the BRT podcast on my way to work today and Sam brought up a good point. The defense is 100% looking for perfection. It's hypercritical of itself and when one bad thing happens, the players start pushing to make plays and things snowball. Look at what happened against Ohio State. Miller has a 70 yard run, and all of a sudden we can't stop anything after looking so great in the first quarter.
  5. The biggest thing that needs to happen though is if we let a big play by either Colter or Robinson, we don't let things snowball. Seems like when the first play happens, especially on the road, it leads to a second, then a third and so on. It seems like since the A&M game of '10, once the first bad play happens the players are waiting for the next one to happen instead of doing their jobs.
  6. Maybe they don't put that much emphasis on maxing bench? I thought Crick did a middling job at the pro day. Wasn't the best, but it also wasn't a number where NFL teams questioned his strength. Really it was only Jones that had a pis poor number on the Bench.
  7. We focused a lot of our recruiting those first couple of years on Offense, especially offensive skill players. Look where we're at there. WR depth that we've never seen (probably the best WR core in our history). RBs that are dynamic with multiple different skill sets. An overall offense that's scored 30+ points in every game so far. When was the last time we've done that? '95 with the best team ever in CFB? On the flipside of that though is we missed on a number of the D recruits. Along the D-Line especially. But it looks like the d-line recruits we got this year along with the overall strength of the last couple classes along all three levels means that we have hopefully some good years ahead of us. For this year though, it's been said before, but Bo either needs to swallow his pride and simplify things on D so that the players react instead of thinking. Or he needs to burn some redshirts (Brown at LB should be the first to play). Take the hits that come with playing freshmen and ride the offense the rest of the year.
  8. Secondary has been pretty good this year, especially the CBs. Safeties have been up and down. Down in rush defense, but up in pass.
  9. The Golf Pro's responsibility has shown the most improvement on the team. Don't knock Fisher. Outside of the RBs and WRs, there hasn't been consistent success from any other unit on the team. That definitely needs improvement.
  10. We aren't going to face a better team than Ohio State the rest of the year. None of the rest of our road games are going to have the atmosphere that Buckeye Stadium has. Braxton Miller is the best QB we'll face all year. (even better than Denard) That when we don't step on our own feet or shoot ourselves, we have a damn good offense that can put points up in bunches very quickly. But the offense is absolutely schizophrenic, we have those good parts, but they are followed by times where we fumble the ball and kill drives or give the opposing teams the ball within our 30. But this is a reoccurring issue that we've known about. Something needs the change, but I don't think a coaching change does it. We need a personnel change on the defense. Maybe even sweeping changes in our front 7. CBs played well tonight in pass defense. Mitchell got abused a couple times covering a TE over the middle, but other than that I don't think a receiver caught a ball that wasn't a little flair.
  11. It's not the Rod Smith run, it's the run by Hyde with barely a minute left. Sure we still had 2 timeouts left, but we hadn't used them at any other point in the drive. He's just asking for someone to get hurt on that play. Just a dick move.
  12. It's halftime, we're down by 11 and we get the ball first. Take a deep breath and come off the ledge folks.
  13. God he got really lucky when Ball dropped that pass. Outside of that the 3 senior LBs played really well. Compton had 10 tackles, Whaley had 9 and broke up the last real play of the game (not counting the kneel downs), and Fisher made at least 1 huge stop on a 3rd and short. Congrats to all 3, don't think they're going to get to play until Michigan State though.
  14. Similar to the Ohio State game last year, except Ohio State was straight up beating us. We had problems in the first half, but it was because Ohio State was playing great. Even in the second half we got lucky because Miller rolled his ankle. If he plays the whole game it's a toss up with us probably losing (but I think we controlled the game after David's fumble and it didn't matter what QB was playing). Tonight, we straight up beat them in the second half. 0 injuries on Wisconsin's side. Just complete domination by both the offense and defense. This is the second straight week (not counting Idaho State) that the defense has come out of half with fire and completely smothered the offense. Of course we absolutely need to fix a lot of things. This is a flawed team, but I like the mental fortitude they've shown after the UCLA game.
  15. Fumbles almost killed us. Without those two fumbles we win by 3 scores and it's not as close. Kudos to Wisconsin for taking advantage, but we also spent most of the first half shooting ourselves in the foot.
  16. Played absolutely horsesh#t in the 1st half. Night and day in the 2nd half. We ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT do this again though. We can't come out flat like that. Shades of Ohio State last year. Now let's see what we can do going forward. Are we going to build off this and keep the momentum? Or are we going to crap the bed somewhere again?
  17. D has stepped it up against the last 2 teams with some type of pulse (Arky State and Wisky). 89 yards allowed against Arky, and we're right at those yards right now. First half we couldn't have played any worse, but we were only down 10. We're at 20-7 in the second half.
  18. Burkhead just doesn't have that first step burst at this point. He's still shifty as all heck, but he just doesn't seem right.
