  1. And most of all Texas (burned scorched blackened dirty orange)
  2. Really enjoyed seeing the BTN programs to welcome Nebraska. All were well done. Earlier this year I got a Big Red Husker flag and have been flying it in front of the house this week. I'm sure that over time the I will grow to dislike some Big 10 schools, but for right now I like everyone! (except maybe Michigan.... and Ohio State.... and maybe Penn State too. Now that I think about it a little longer, Iowa fans are just plane obnoxious).
  3. Nuance is right - the punishment extents beyond the guilty and affects many people who were innocent. I especially feel bad for the players who didn't cheat on the rules and the ordinary fans who will endure a poor teams for years. Coaches - in football its true that they are usually penalized beyond a loss of job at a school; it carries over to their career (ex - Gary Barnett). Sometime a coach escapes by going to another school (Lane Kiffin) or going to the pros (Pete Carroll). In basketball the coaches seem to get away with murder! It seems that a lot of crooked coaches jump from one college to another.
  4. Assuming the rumors all turn out to be true and the NCAA finds the truth, I have to ask myself the following. Since multiple players are involved at tOSU for multiple years, how come only Tressel admitted he hid the abuse and resigned? How many other coaches / admin people within the Buckeye organization knew and did nothing and haven't yet been punished? I've read some of the Buckeye chat boards and they want the Athletic Director Gene Smith fired (some want the university President fired!). I do believe that the fan base is strong & will insist the tOSU will eventually return to a national power, but it may take quite a few years.
  5. There is no doubt that Martinez showed huge upside potential. His passing game against Okla St was just as amazing to me as his running ability. Its great that he is getting pre-season recognition. If he is to continue to grow, I think he will have to develop a better relationship with the OL and obviously will have to become a reliable passer in Beck's offensive scheme. If he can't grow into that leadership role, then another QB will have to arise. As my boss once told me - "Someone out there can do this job well, I hope you're the man."
  6. I think the non-conference games should be aimed at re-enforcing our recruiting efforts. So, I'd like to see Ariz or Ariz St, any competent Florida team and a California team.
  7. Teams respond in one of 2 ways. They either split apart and lose their "chemistry" or they pull together and unite against the world. For our sake, I hope they fracture .... at least for the NU game! GBR
  8. In light of recent events both here and in Ohio - my Christmas wish for 2011 is that - 1) ALL Nebraska players comply with the NCAA rules, 2) ALL Nebraska players stay out of trouble with the police, 3) A good replacement LB coach is found and 4) The verbal commitments become written commitments in Febr.
  9. Having CU move to the Pac-10 does NOT improve their fans, who have been some of the most ignorant, mean-spirited, dirty mouthed and just plain hateful fans in the USA. So, in their last year I should wish them well?
  10. With Smith and Fisher out for the season, I started thinking - who is most vital to the team this season. In other words, which player would we have the hardest replacing?
  11. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm kind of surprised they have a self-identity crisis.
  12. To quote The Pretender's - "A O Way to Go Ohio" from "My City Was Gone" - Rush Limbaugh's theme music.
  13. Pardon my stupid question, but what does tOSU mean? Specifically, why the "t"?
  14. As a NU grad living in Big 10 territory, its my observation that the Big 10 teams are a lot more balanced that the Big 12 ever thought of being. Since 1990, eight different teams from the Big 10 have gone to the Rose Bowl. Michigan (7), Wisc (3), OSU (2), Penn St (2) and one each: Iowa, NW, Purdue and Ill. Only 3 teams have not made it: Minn, Mich St and Indiana. The point - don't worry so much about an imbalance in the Big 10. Its nothing like the B12 north - south imbalance.
  15. Ford Field in Detroit would be neat. Suh and his team mates could cheer on Nebraska!
  16. I miss the Big 12 until I consider that Texas wants to form their own TV network (Longhorn Network) and not share the TV revenues equally. Is that a conference or a dictatorship? How can any member feel they are anything other than a semi-slave? Its one thing to be proud of your university and another thing to be an egomaniac. You decide which one Texas is. Going to the Big 10 was the most intelligent move NU could make.
  17. That was very funny! After all the praise from Big 10 Conference AD's and coaches, its about time that that someone said what they really thought!
  18. Is Joe Pa still your coach?
  19. The real question is - how will Bo like playing against his alma mater OSU? Will he try to treat them like his formal boss - Oklahoma and Stoops? What was Conan the Barbarian's line about crushing the enemy and lamentation of the women?
  20. As a NU alum living in Illinois, can't wait to visit the Big House when the Huskers come to play. Attended only one game in Ann Arbor many, many years ago. Michigan beat Navy (what a shock!) but the fans were great. PS - Michigan is my favorite state to visit on vacation. Always found the people friendly.
  21. It's very gratifying to have so many Big 10 fans welcome NU. I'm a Nebr alum, living in Illinois. I met with friends at lunch today. Got Big 10 welcomes from Wisconsin, Illinois and Purdue alums. It felt great! For those who are new to this board I'd like to confirm that the moderators WILL enforce decency and WILL ban those trolls who make crude attacks on others. THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS BOARD! One of the things I'm most proud of is the way NU fans respect opponents. Big 10 fans might not know this, but Florida State visited NU in Lincoln years ago and won the game. The NU fans gave them a standing ovation at the end of the game. Its the kind of class that makes me proud to be a BIG RED FAN and proud to be part of the Big 10.
