  1. I hurt my ankle pretty bad playing basketball almost 8 years ago. I must have tweaked it when I was walking to class yesterday, because it was hurting me to the point where I was limping for a while. Ankle injuries are something that can stay with you for a long time. I can't imagine Martinez's ankle standing up to the kind of stress football entails; making cuts, twisting when getting tackled, etc. Most people fail to realize the lingering effects of ankle injuries, once its been injured, its much more likely to become re-injured. Do you have any idea how many athletes have tweaked an ankle and come back from it in just the last 12 months alone? It happens all the time. People talk about Taylor recovering from this ankle thing like it's a complete long shot and will probably never happen... EVERY athlete hurts an ankle at some point. Many have hurt their ankles WORSE than Taylor and went on to have successful careers with no or limited lingering effects. He hurt his ankle, couldn't heal cause he was playing every week, took a couple months off, got quite a bit better, now he'll take a few more months off and be fine. He's not sitting on a couch all day, he's not going to "tweak" it walking to class. Well if you want another anecdotal story that would support him recovery almost fully. I got a high ankle sprain my senior year of high school the first half of the first game. Landed on a pile and someone rolled over my lower leg and it made a popping sound, I swore I broke the thing because I couldn't put any weight on it. Playing left tackle its a real bitch trying to push off of that thing and fall back on it in pass pro, I can't imagine trying to cut on it at speed like he was asked to do. It took me almost the whole season to fully recover, but after 5 or 6 games it was about 90%. The only lasting effects I've notice are that my right ankle (the one I sprained) is a little bit stiffer than the left. I've played basketball, football, and softball on it for 5 years and never had a problem other than pain from a casual roll of the ankle that goes away after a day or two, and that's more from having loose ankles that have been rolled numerous times playing sports since I was a kid. Now I think we had a great trainer but obviously he didn't have the equipment and facilities they do at NU so I'm going to go out on a limb and say Taylor's ankle will be just fine come this season. I'm more concerned with his turf toe being a chronic issue than his ankle at this point. Not sure about the context of Taylor's quote before, but he could be talking about his toe and not the ankle. From more personal experience toes seem to be the one injury that feels fine one week and you land on it just right the next and boom! You're back to square one again with the pain... But like you said it's all just speculation...
  2. *Update* looks like Bo is going to be on ESPNU's College Football Spring Blitz sometime with in this half hour. If you've got the new screwed up time warner in Lincoln its channel Digital: 303 HD:1303
  3. As a kid my fondest memories where of the afternoon kickoffs to the Stone's Start Me Up, but I think those are better for suited for the first couple warm-up games. The atmosphere of night games just oozes big time game to me. People are loose and actually awake and cheering. And dare I say most of the gray-hairs are probably at home because the game will go past their bed time. The Oklahoma game is the prime example I've been to so far, simply electric! Although if you do go in the day time like it was mentioned earlier you get the chance for some crazy weather in October and November like we had at the texas game in '06 I believe; bright and sunny then light snow, then heavy snow and some wind, then sun and a heart break.
  4. I apologize for contributing to your exercise and the demise of obesity in America! not that your obese or anything...
  5. Saw the bus in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot on 27th and Superior when I was driving back from class earlier this morning. I haven't heard of anything going on so I was just curious if anybody on here knew if they were doing a piece or just passing through.
  6. That picture is taken out of context. Taylor was basically blindsided on the play because no one bothered to pick up the blitz. You can hardly expect a guy to tuck the ball when he's looking down field to make a play and someone is coming free off the edge behind him that he expecting to get blocked.
  7. True, but the horseshoe loop that runs in front of the stadium is paved with bricks and from the looks of it the entrance is only going to be about 50 feet from the street so it does tie the two together. Not to mention a lot of the sidewalks in campus are outlined with brick. I agree it looks a little different but that may be where the designers were coming from, trying to tie the campus into the stadium.
  8. Come on guys let's get the facts straight here a Holstein is a cow not a pig, comparing her to either of those animals is just disrespectful to those fine beasts. But either way she is a disgusting skank, and if you think that's harsh well I'm sorry but that's exactly what she is. That's the nicest word I could think of with out burning up the language filters. I despise this show with an absolute passion. I really don't care for mtv anymore and this is one of the biggest reasons why (not to mention that teen mom garbage and the fact that they don't really play music anymore ) I had honestly never heard of her until the South Park episode. They did a pretty good job with her portrayal too.
  9. Just got an email yesterday from EA itself here's the LINK to what it said. Guess there lumping everyone who originally purchased the games from '05 on into one group unless you opt out. Here's a couple more articles on it: Article 1, Article 2
  10. Just saw the episode this afternoon after I heard about it on USC today, but apparently on Monday's show the guys on Pawn Stars bought two pair of Ohio State's gold pants. You know the ones they get for beating Michigan... The kind that Pryor is suspended for selling... There probably not his or Solomon Thomas's since they have the initials DW and LB respectively, but still pretty interesting. If you can spare a couple grand and a trip to Vegas you two can own a piece of Buckeye tradition! Link
  11. I'm pretty sure Oregon ran it in the championship game as well, or at least I remember them running it sometime during the year.
  12. You know, I was thinking the exact same thing!
  13. I'm pretty sure that "corn fed" is actually his father's trade marked brand.
  14. But there was pressure put on him from the media when it was caught. Im wondering why there's nothing here...and no its not "They hate us" or "its Bebe's fault" Very, very true. But it may have had something to do with them being #1? or top 5 at the time?
  15. But you can coach the players on how to carry the ball properly, probably more position coaches though... and when the defense holds the other team to a FG or even scoreless after those turnovers it would behoove us to score some points on offense and give them a break instead of punting.
  16. We called a screen right at the beginning of the game yesterday and the defensive end almost intercepted it... IIRC it did get a first down though. I thought Taylor was 95% when he started the game, because he was making some nice cuts and didn't seem to be bothered when he planted his foot. But I think the combination of sacks and just getting hit may have re-aggravated his injuries. If anyone thinks he was disinterested that’s just not the case. The kid's quiet and doesn't show much emotion, which leads to people filling in the gaps and we get the crazy rumors and people saying he's disinterested. This just reminds me of Gale Sayers, I wasn't alive when he played but I remember reading Brian's Song and he talked about how Gale was quiet and shy and people often mistook him for being arrogant and kind of a jerk. I think it's probably the same thing. Anyways... Taylor did, as the OP said, play his heart out last night and you can't fault him for that. He is a freshman and he was going to show it sometime this year, it just happened to be a big game unfortunately. But that's what comes with the territory of a freshman QB. I do have one question though; do you think he was told not to run from the pocket? It seems like Ganz in his first year and even Zac Lee last year were very hesitant to run when they had no options left and I can't help but wonder if Watson coaches them to stay with the pass at all cost. There's been times with all three (Taylor, Zac, Ganz) where they have no one open and some green in front of them, but they don't tuck it and go. It's just strange to me that they would all have the same habit (granted Taylor may not be confident in his feet at the moment).
  17. Brandon Spikes actually suspended himself for what it's worth...
  18. The Line wasn't pass blocking well because they were bringing more than would could pick up most of the time. In that case you run a screen... which we did guess how many times... ONCE. For a pretty nice gain. Or you could try running shorter routs instead of the longer than 10 yard routs that seem to get coverd and lead to sacks. Or like was mentioned before use straight run plays instead of the zone read which Taylor wasn't making the right reads on.
  19. Wow... That is how you write an article. Its amazing when you see a sports writer who isn't pretentious, let alone one who is actually versed in the modern world and the ancient world!
  20. Speaking of. Assuming we have Musberger and Herbstreit calling our game, drink every time Musberger says "Herbie." And I could not be happier about the potential ending to this season... How about everytime he says something stupid like a "hoosier is down" when OU and OSU are playing, or everytime he calls a TD/first down when the guy is tackled 5 yards short, or an incomplete pass that is completed/picked off.
