  1. Another great point. I hate the fact our uniforms are so similar to theirs. They even wore red pants in the Rose Bowl. If you took someone not really associated with College Football, but they knew that you're favorite team was Nebraska, and you showed them clips from the 2011 Rose Bowl, while covering up the score and muting the audio, I bet you more than a few fans would say "That's Nebraska out there".
  2. A lot of good information here, great topic and discussion. I think a spread option offense, or a multiple offense with the threat of an option attack from any formation, is the best offense for us to win at Nebraska. You would have to put in a lot of time to be able to execute the option, however I think it can be done. You need the coaches and the athletes in place to make it work. I think we have the coaches now, and I know for a fact we have the athletes to get it done. The fact we are going to put the best athletes on the field and get our younger guys out there quicker shows a positive step in the right direction. However, a spread option offense I think is the way to go. You can be balanced 50/50 out of this philosophy [see KU 2007 and Urban Meyer Florida tams] while still imposing your will either through the ground or in the air. You have to be able to pass when need to, and you have to be able to run either around or right at the defenses to keep them guessing. Our teams in the 90s and early 2000s were not 50/50, but we kept defenses guessing, which is what you had to do. You had no idea when you would see an Option pass from Shotgun or an option pass from an I-Formation set-up. We were probably 73/23 run to pass if I had to guess, but we kept defenses off balance, we kept them guessing. Any offense like that will be good, and it will be even more lethal if we can get a true 50/50 ratio going, which is what Bo wants to do, and he said himself he wants to run a Florida type spread when he was first hired. Correct me if I'm wrong. Florida, Oregon, Texas 05, and Auburn of last year, were fun offenses to watch. And to say an offense is bad because Oregon "runs around them as opposed to running through them" what difference does it make? They are scoring points, moving the ball, and limiting turnovers, which is more than our offense can say last year. Yeah they didn't win the BCS Title Game, but Auburn did with their Spread Hybrid and a hell of an athlete at quarterback. A balanced attack will always out-trump an all out air attack philosophy or an all out 3 yards and a cloud of dust philosophy.
  3. Great information, although it's scary to think how things could have turned out, we should just be thankful that it turned out good for us the way things seemed to happen and discussed. The other angle is that you could also say that he was just looking to get a head coaching job as opposed to just getting out of town. Seeing how most coordinators look for head coaching jobs which would be the next step up on the ladder, but I'm sure you know that zoogies.
  4. 2001 uniforms shall live FOREVER!!! I think the striped pants are out-dated and look awful on our home uniforms and look 'just okay' with our road uniforms. However, if I had it my way, they would be out the door and we would bring back 2001 for eternity. Adidas logo on the left, Huskers patch on the right, 'Nebraska' in small print above the numbers, the shoulder stripes at the bottom of the sleeve, not on the upper-shoulder, no striped pants, and knee high red/white socks for appropriate game location, will always be the best look ever. I believe the Bowl patch went on-top of the right shoulder pad as well, so there would be room for Bowl patches. No one else really does knee high tall socks consistently and I thought they gave a more 'modern' look while keeping the 'classic' image. Nothing you can show me can convince me that our uniforms can look better than those. *Nerd Rant* I hate the fact that we were the only team [darn near only team] in the Big XII [not sure about Big Ten] that did not have some form of our team name on our jersey. For example: It would mean playing for the 'Team name' on the front of your jersey as opposed to nothing at all. Yes it's a small thing, but I thought it was represented well with the design. No, it shouldn't say 'HUSKERZ1!1!1' or something stupid like that, but I always felt that was a very over-looked part of our uniform that was taken off after the 2004 season and added again, a nice part of our uniform, while keeping it 'classic' and not 'over-doing' it. And no, it doesn't ultimately matter when the game is in motion, since you cannot see it, but in freeze-frames, interviews, pictures, it adds a lot.
  5. I apologize if this has already been answered, but.... Even if you have the Big Ten Network [like most of us on here], if Time Warner Cable and the Big Ten Network don't reach an agreement by the start of the season to offer the Big Ten Network on their lowest channel package [like everyone else in the Big Ten], then that means the people that DO get Big Ten Network will also be S.O.L. to see Husker games on TV for the first few games, not including Washington [ABC] or Wyoming [Verses]? It won't matter to me [student tickets] but I will feel bad for everyone else and I will pull my Time Warner cable and internet just for the sake of sticking it to them by not getting something done before the start of the season.
  6. You're somewhat close on the 17 first round draft-picks. They had 22 LEGIT NFL starters on that team AND they were 2 deep at EVERY position, INCLUDING, but not limited to, water-boy and towel grabber. Come on Carlfense, every Hurricane fan knows this, how come you don't? Do your research!!!
  7. When I heard he was looking at Kansas State, I instantly thought he might choose them. They run more of a pro-style/West Coast Offense, and it's been stated that's what he wants to be in. As well as Bill Snyder having a great track-record with JUCO's and mobile quarterbacks, although Cody never really showed how dual threat he was supposed to be, I thought he might end up there based on what he wanted. I wish him the best of luck, it's his decision, but if the Huskers play the Wildcats in a bowl game, which would have to be a helluva season for the Wildcats or a horrible season for our Huskers, I hope we pound the hell out of him and make him look like a fool who is lost and confused on the football field.
  8. I knew there was a new celebration rule in effect for next year, but I didn't know it applied to "Team traditions/actions". I knew the rule was going to be B.S. before it started, but that is even more B.S. now that you say that. Thanks for clearing that up. That's what the board is for. And yes, teams will get penalized and it will cost someone a very important game down the road. Let's just hope it's not us.
  9. Doesn't matter if you do it at opposing players or not. Drawing attention to yourself is a flag. See KSU and Syracuse. Which is sad. But I remember seeing our players throw the bones, not at anyone, and they were not flagged. If that's the case of drawing attention to yourself, then why wasn't the Missouri player flagged for throwing the bones at the Husker fans then last fall? That was clearly taunting and was not called for. Oh right, Big XII refs. I'll move along now.
  10. Is it September 3rd yet? Anyway, the gloves are pretty cool, but I hope the players still throw the bones [although not AT opposing players, which would draw a flag] instead of hold up their gloves to connect the logo.
  11. To be fair to Cosgrove, the 2006 defense was pretty damn good. Not elite Pelini kind of good (let's face it, Pelini is ahead of every single person in the country as far as defensive philosophy), but still well above average. Held USC to 28, Oklahoma to 21, Auburn to 17, Texas to 22, etc. We played championship caliber defense and had a potentially championship caliber offense, but the pieces didn't stick due to a shaky fundamental core (see, Callahan). They were good though. Good post Lanlord. The 2006 defense was good on it's own with Cosgrove, but with Pelini, I think we can say it could hae been EVEN BETTER. 2006 will be one of those years, like 2001 and 1999, that we had all the pieces, but for some reason things didn't work out. Fumbles in 99, Colorado exposing us and no real other offensive weapon in 2001, and Callahan debacle in 2006. All the pieces were there, but you're right, the fundamental core was rotten.
  12. Guy is obviously a troll. That being said, I have to agree with him on one thing. The 2006 defense, was set up to be SO freaking good. Could you IMAGINE what Pelini would do with that defense? Carriker, Moore, [heck, throw a Redshirt Freshman Suh in there], Bo Ruud [When he was still playing well and not 2007 form], Corey McKeon [see Bo Ruud] Steve Octavien [see Corey McKeon and Bo Ruud] Zack Bowman, Andre Jones [had a lot of potential to be really good], Cortney Grixby, and Bo being a natural safety [who did wonders with Matt O'Hanlon] think about what he could have done with Andrew Shanle and Tierre Green? Maybe not world beaters, but better than they were for sure!!! It could have been one of the better defenses we've ever had if we had our current defensive staff coaching them, but sadly we had the two C's coaching them, which, as we all know, lead us back to Pelini. However, I think they would be sick. Absolutely. Freaking. Sick!!
  13. I was in Las Vegas this past weekend. Loved it. Love this show too. My dad and me were looking at championship rings. We saw one that caught our eyes. A red 1995 National Championship ring, but it didn't have an N or a Back to Back or anything like that on it. It could be from some other sport, but I haven't done the research of whose team would be red and won a National Title in 1995. I Googled the rings from 1995, the Big Eight and National Title rings, and they look nothing like what was in the store. We tried to ask but it was super busy and we had to get going sadly. On a more ironic note... There was a guy standing next to us. With a Pacific Tigers vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers shirt on from 1995. I asked him if he played for Nebraska. He said he played against Nebraska his Senior year at Tennessee in the Orange Bowl. So we started talking about championship rings. I didn't mention I was a Husker fan, although we probably should have. My assumption: He was a Freshman, possibly a red-shirt Freshman in 1995, and after Pacific ended their football team in 1995 he was forced to go elsewhere, Tennessee, and then had his Senior season in 1997-1998. Maybe it's best I didn't mention I was a Husker fan, seeing how he "probably" got whooped twice, and at least once for sure.
  14. I was just thinking about this for a "LOL" submission. It was only a matter of time....
  15. How about 941 with the logos of each school instead of stars? Maybe that would d be too much to some, but I think that would be neat. 471 was good and 621 on the second page was good as well if you're going to try to incorporate a 12 in the logo.
  16. If we are going by just "Pure Plays" then this would be my list. 1. The Black 41 Flash Reverse Pass 2. Henery's Kick, Suh's pick 3. Rozier's 100 yard run for a 5 yard touchdown 4. Harold Hartley's 60-yard TD catch against THE FOUR HORSEMEN and KNUTE ROCKNE of Notre Dame in 1922 5. Nate Swift's punt return vs Virgina Tech 2008 6. Marlon Lucky's touchdown pass to Nate Swift vs Texas 2006 7. The bounce rooskie 1982 vs. OU 8. 1982 Scott Strasburg interception 9. Prince Amukamra's INT vs OU 2009 10. Will Shields fumblerooski vs CU 1992 If we are going by "Big play that had an impact in the Big moment" this would be my list 1. The Black 41 Flash Reverse Pass 2. Harold Hartley's 60-yard TD catch against THE FOUR HORSEMEN and KNUTE ROCKNE of Notre Dame in 1922 3. Henery's Kick, Suh's pick 4. 1982 Scott Strasburg interception 5. Prince Amukamra's INT vs OU 2009 6. Marlon Lucky's touchdown pass to Nate Swift vs Texas 2006 7. Nate Swift's punt return vs Virgina Tech 2008 8. The bounce rooskie 1982 vs. OU 9. Rozier's 100 yard run for a 5 yard touchdown 10. Will Shields fumblerooski vs CU 1992 Yes, I like to make things difficult and give TWO lists. Sorry Will Sheilds, you get the love of the bottom of Top 10. A good play, but nothing more than gaining a few yards, but very cool still, AND we got that play outlawed after that year. I wish I could have seen the Strasburg interception, unless it was already posted somewhere, as well as the 1922 Touchdown catch by Hartley. I was fortunate enough to see Black 41 Flash Pass and Prince's interception in the stadium. The other ones that have been more recent I should have seen too, but oh well.
  17. It's not a shot at Green. The tone in Cody's voice may have given Sipple a reason to stop asking questions and let him just have his peace and quiet for now. Come to think of it, maybe he thought Cody wasn't serious about the "Whatever offense gets him to the next level" as Sipple may think that Cody is not suited at quarterback for the next level. Now next level could mean a lot of things: NFL, CFL, UFL, XFL, is there still an Arena Football League? Point being: Maybe he thought Cody was being arrogant at stating whatever can get him to the next level, and Sipple thought there would be no way he could be quarterback at a higher level, so he may have thought Cody was shrugging him off or giving a stupid answer to what he felt may have been a stupid question at the time and then decided to let him have his time alone.
  18. While we're at it... Where's the 'Beat Chattanooga shirt' at?
  19. Enough already. My word - you make fun of some guy for saying "lulz" after you said "waahhh", and the proceed to argue with everybody that disagrees with you. Perhaps you should check your own maturity at the door. Furthermore, I don't think there's any room for you to call somebody a teenage girl when you accuse Nebraska of using "illegal tactics" like a tattle tale on the playground. If it were illegal it'd be called a penalty, right? You're the exact reason we've had problems with Washington fans on this board following the bowl game. Most of them come on here, pretend the non-con game didn't happen and then say Nebraska has no reason to make excuses for their Holiday Bowl loss. I'm sorry, but your fans made handfuls of excuses for why Nebraska destroyed you in the non-conference. The truth of the matter is Nebraska suffered a key injury to the most important member of our offense, a member of our offense that masked the bad consistency and execution errors Nebraska had for many games during the season. Without Martinez at full healthy, we just weren't the same team plain and simple. There's no way you or anybody can convince me that motivation wasn't a factor in that game. Nebraska got worse after the season went a long because of injuries and poor execution on offense, and was then told they had to go to a bowl game they did not expect to fall to and play a team they had dominated earlier in the season. And by dominate, I mean we literally made you look like you didn't belong on the field once the second half started. Washington, conversely, got better as the season progressed and made it to a bowl game that realistically speaking was better than what they deserved. Washington then had the chance to face a team that embarrassed them earlier in the season. Add those two things together and you have a motivated Washington team going against a Nebraska team that failed near the end of the season and fell to a bowl game they didn't want to be in. This team had BCS prospects that they let flounder away, and somehow they're supposed to be motivated to face a less talented Washington team? I'm sorry, but your argument is faulty. Lastly, can you please tell me how upset you are about how Nebraska plays defense and all of those "illegal tactics" they use? Honestly, I love reading you complain. Nebraska has a top 10 defense to show for it, and Washington ranked what, exactly? I guess there's nothing left for me to say. Oh wait, I almost forgot... LULZ Owned. Utterly, owned and destroyed. Well done. +1 Be careful Enhance....we wouldn't want to show up our splendid troll-infested guest and give him a lesson on hypocrisy or show him anything like that....
  20. Good info. I saw this today and was glad to see it, can't wait for Round Three! And yes, Washington WAS the better team that NIGHT in the Holiday Bowl. But for many reasons listed. Yes they won, yes they earned it, however you also have to look at the full picture too. Sure, we should have been more mentally prepared, and that's on the coaching staff, but there were other issues as well, and they have all been stated.
  21. This. Especially this! ABSOLUTELY THIS!!! Agreed. But more likely this..... I would love to send a message to Time Warner Cable as they are the only monopoly cable company in Lincoln. We get our basic cable free with our apartment rent and then I just pay the rest for the DVR/HD box. However, I wouldn't mind switching to Direct-TV, especially if it's a reason like this. The reason why we don't is, I'm not sure how the contracted plans work with apartment buildings. If we want to move within the complex to another floor, or rent a house do we have to pay the exit fee of like 200 dollars just to move the dish, and then have to pay for the re-instalation at the new place? That's why we stick with Time Warner for now...but I would love nothing more than the entire state stick it to them and send them a message.
  22. Agreed. The sure bet is the MLB, but how's that a bad thing? If that's what he is comfortable with and he can be the most successful in, then he has the right to do that as well as making sure he has his life covered. Going through the minor leagues can be a grind, but the minute he steps on campus he will be a GOD before even playing one down. From a popularity stand-point, he will have it easier here based on the hype alone and has everything at his finger tips. And absolutely agree, the what-ifs will be at Nebraska...I still think about Carl Crawford at Quarterback. Jamaal Lord at safety. Solich still here in 2004, takes the team to great heights, especially if Bo stays. Bo takes over in..201X? Since Solich said that was the plan all along for Bo to eventually take over. But do we get into the Big Ten with Pedey at the helm? Or does he leave, since Bo would be promoted to Head Coach, Osborne comes in and we still get in the Big Ten? Agh, that's for a Rumorville or What-If thread!!! Sometimes it's best to just take things as they come and not think about the what-ifs, but it is hard to do that in the off-season. Now back to your regular scheduled programming thread....
  23. Sorry, but how does choosing MLB over college football have anything to do with "fundamental things" like you mentioned? Can he not get that from the professional world? Do you have none of that in your job or career? Let's be honest. If you put that much money in-front of yourself at 18, you know you'd be hard pressed to not say no to it. I know I would probably choose the MLB route if I were in his shoes. I admit it would be hard, but it would be hard not to turn down an automatic paycheck. It has nothing to do with "fundamental things" that you mentioned. That is laughable. He has friends, he can make friends in the minors and at the majors. He has family. And the college experience, will always be there for him, either in a few months or years down the road. Look at Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden, or former Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke. He has to not only do what's best for him, but he has to be as successful as he can be. Maybe he knows he will be a better MLB player than college football player, but really wants to go to college at the same time? He can have his cake and eat it too, he is in that good of a situation. Which is why we should just be happy for him that he has two GREAT decisions to make. He will make the decision that is best for him, for his career and his family. He does seem torn, which makes me think he is really, really, really leaning towards Nebraska, but when that contract offer arrives, he will be hard pressed to turn it away. Accepting money is not a bad thing at all. How many of you have left a job to advance your career? For better benefits, more money, more stability? To help your family? Can you not do what's best for you? Isn't that why Nebraska left the Big XII? For the reasons I just listed? Should we go back to the Big XII because of loyalty and what it used to be? You know you can take money and not be greedy at all. Being greedy would be demanding more than he is being offered. He isn't choosing money over ethics, you can get ethics anywhere, it just depends on what kind of person you are and how you go about life, it's your personality. Money makes things click and the world turn. However, it's the LOVE of money that can be the root of evilness. I know I'd like to have that extra cash in my checking account as a security measure, to not only secure my future, my career, my family, but my future family as well. Much like how Nebraska looked after itself when we joined the Big Ten. How is that a bad thing? It just seems like some of us are jealous and selfish that he may go the MLB route. If he does, I say good for him and good luck. If he comes to Nebraska I will still say thanks for your commitment, and good luck on being the best Husker he can be. Let's just be happy for him and stop saying if he turns down Nebraska that he is a "bad person with no fundamentals" because in my opinion, that's what it seems like some of the posters are trying to do. Please Husker nation, do not take his choice personal if he chooses the MLB and calling him selfish or something like that. Thats an easy way out? Um, last time i checked the major leagues are tougher than college. What if he came up here and ended up getting hurt or his baseball skills declined because he was not fully committed to baseball? I know if that happened to me, I would wonder what it would have been like if i focused on baseball. Also, he would always wonder how good he could have been if he solely focused on the major leagues, it is a two way road. Watching video of him though, I do not think he will succeed as a qb, he has too much air under his ball that will be easy to pick off for division 1 cbs. But who knows! Agreed mostly. The tough challenge would be going professional. He might feel he will be more successful as a MLB player as opposed to a college football player as I stated earlier, and probably won't go professional in the NFL, but that still is a long way to go. I'm glad we recruited Bubba, I would recruit him too, but let's be honest, he was throwing the ball and running against Kansas kids, not the most powerhouse high school football teams. He is a hell of a runner though, and has the arm, but I think his passing accuracy needs to be worked on. Some of us here think that he is a finished project and the minute he steps on campus he will be a 3 times Heisman Trophy winner. He is not a finished project. Can he be? Absolutely, but he has things to work on, such as the ball hanging in the air too long, he has got to get the ball to his receivers faster and not leave them up in he air as much. However, we will have coaches that WILL help him improve, and he will NATURALLY improve with the game and experience. If he put up those stats in California, Texas, Florida, or Ohio, then I would be very impressed. But against Kansas competition, I am wary of him throwing the ball at this point in his career, and him looking a little loss in the High School All-Star game, he is not a finished project and needs some things to work on. But as most high school prospects, that's how it is, they have some things to work on. I am glad he is a Husker, I hope he ends up here, if he doesn't I won't hold it against him and I will understand, but he will need to work on things and if he can he can be a great one, I absolutely believe that.
