  1. haha look at you, Mr. Optimistic. I wouldn't expect Michigan State to win vs Georgia, but it would sure make the B1G look good if we swept the 3 games vs the SEC. Can't wait to see the excuses from the SEC fan base pour out if it happens. They won the MNC. Granted OSU wasn't given the opportunity but that is water under the bridge.
  2. How is the BIG turning into the SEC Lite? If this were the SEC, a little legal investigation wouldn't lead the coach to suspend the player. Hell, in the SEC they can get a tape of you committing armed robery and have the victim decline to press charges because he doesn't want to affect their ability to play in the game on Saturday. Last year we had our star RB suspended for the bowl game and it led to the emergence of Coker. This year we have Coker suspended and it will lead to the emergence of Mic.. no wait... he is also suspended. OK - Can.. no wait.. he is injured... Anyone have a RB we can borrow for a couple of weeks?
  3. edit because responding to the post above me in the manner that I did won't do any good and I don't feel like taking the time to find facts other than the obvious Nebraska beat Iowa this year so this year Nebraska was indeed better.
  4. http://www.hawkeyenation.com/football/more-turnover Miller's take on Kaczenski to Nebraska. He mentions that the guy might just be wanting to pad his resume some by working under Bo after having worked under Parker for the past few years. He isn't one of the long time coaches we have and he hasn't been spectacular.
  5. I figured you were going to bring up the INTs and I almost mentioned that as well. My only point about that is, if INTs/turnovers demoralize a defense, shouldn't TDs & field goals pump them up? We were scoring against Fresno and Washington, yet they still gave up a bunch of yards. Same for Northwestern, same for Michigan. That point has to work both ways. OR, you could also say that the fact that the defense couldn't/wouldn't stop Wiscy and Michigan demoralized the offense, and they gave up. Personally, I think each guy who straps on the helmet, whether they're on offense, defense or special teams, should pull himself up by his own bootstraps and do his part. It is demoralizing when the guy on the other side of the ball isn't doing his part - either throwing interceptions, dropping passes, fumbling the ball, whatever. Holding, pass interference, etc - they all are a drain to the other side of the ball. But that stuff happens. Our 2009 defense, which did feature a freak in Ndamukong Suh, granted, was the poster-child for ignoring the other side of the ball and just doing what they were supposed to do. That 2009 offense was horrid, but the defense - not just Suh - played fantastic, all year long. I think if the offense says they sucked because the defense couldn't stop anyone, or the defense says they sucked because the offense couldn't score, that's doing too much finger-pointing, and not enough responsibility-taking. Gotta take responsibility. Yes I am going to tell an Iowa story because it illustrates an attitude that BOTH of our teams have had on defense in the past that has been lacking lately - and it is as frustrating for Husker fans as it is for Hawkeye fans. This happened several years ago so I don't remember the exact game or score - but the defense had an awesome game and held the opponent something in the 7-10 point range but the offense had only scored 6. The media was interviewing some of our star defensive players after the game and asked how frustrating it was that they had played such a good game but the offense had let them down. They got mad at the media because in their mind they had let the offense down by allowing the other team to score a single TD. They sincerely believed that the offense had scored enough points and it was their fault the team had lost. This is the kind of attitude I would like to see both of our teams get back to on defense. It has been a frustrating couple of years for both and certainly not in the defensive style we are all used to.
  6. Ferentz isn't leaving Iowa - but Iowa's DC just retired and we could give Nebraska a run for Stoops given their family history with us if Ferentz doesn't just promote from within for the DC job.
  7. There were so many mixed groups of fans. I know quite a few Iowa fans that live here in Lincoln and have season tickets to Nebraska games because they can't travel to Iowa for every home game and just like football. They have all been Iowa fans first and Husker fans 2nd - but the Huskers are the hometown team so that is where they have tickets. Between those fans and the ones that have family friends visiting for Thanksgiving it isn't a surprise there was a lot of Black and Gold just like it won't be a surprise to see more Husker fans than a normal team would get in at Kinnick next year. I know that I will be responsible for letting 3 Nebraska fans in to the game next year - but that was the tradeoff for getting 2 of us in this year.
  8. For the comments about the special event tickets - I stated that I didn't know if Nebraska did that. Someone asked where the tickets might have come from and I was simply stating where single game tickets come from by how things are done at Iowa and those are special event blocks and returned visiting team tickets. If Nebraska doesn't do special event tickets - great! I know that I always enjoy giving my Nebraska band friends a hard time because for homecoming they are put in folding chairs down in the corner while we get actual seats in the stands at Iowa. That would be an example of an area of the stadium that Iowa can't sell as season tickets because there is a game they are not available for that doesn't affect Nebraska. Unlike in Kinnick, Nebraska actually has sideline space in Memorial so it is very possible that they just do this kind of thing with all of their special event attendees and don't need actual stand space. Maybe the tickets were returned by a visiting team and some speical alumni group bought up a block for some kind of mini-reunion. I really don't know and I wasn't trying to stir up anything. Someone stated earlier in the thread that they wanted an explanation if you voted no and so I gave it using the information I used to form my opinion in the first place. It is like anything that can't be proven - people will believe what they choose to believe. I can't offer any proof and I have said that before. This was asking for an opinion and I gave mine. That doesn't make it correct - it is just an opinion after all.
  9. I know that I have to bite my tongue anytime my Nebraska friends bring up the streak. Nebraska fans are certainly (ever so slightly) more fanatical than Iowa fans I will admit But at least none of my work friends that received that email ever say anything about it as I think I would probably give them all kinds of crap.
  10. This. For some reason the coaches get ultra-conservative when we are on the road and just hamstring the team and the players play tight and make mistakes they don't otherwise make.
  11. But haven't all of these tickets already been sold, regardless of who actually buys and uses them? The tickets for the special events yes - but there aren't special events at every game so that will leave a few tickets for a few games that need to be sold individually. Again, not sure if this is how Nebraska does it - I can only speak for how I know Iowa does it that could have potentially left a few tickets that needed dealt with when demand was lower. I know that the waiting list for season tickets was gone by then as several friends picked up season tickets for the first time that year and none were denied so potentially there were a few tickets left over for the one and only time in decades. Don't know for sure - just spitballing it a little for possibilities that fit in to what I know.
  12. I read that they have a 2 game leeway Can't take a 7 win team over a 9 win team I believe that the only bowls that have any kind of requirements are the Cap One and Outback and they have a 1 game leeway in the standings. After that the only requirement is that a 6 win team can't be taken before a 7 win team unless there are still enough bowl slots to guarantee the 7 win team a slot. Now given that - most of the bowls will usually stay pretty close to the standings order.
  13. There are always a few extra tickets for some of the early games due to the need to keep a few tickets back for special event type stuff. Most schools will have a small block set aside for this kind of thing. They could have also been tickets returned to the athletic department by the visiting team. I know at Iowa they keep a few thousand tickets back for homecoming and parents weekend which then can't be sold as a full season ticket so they sell a few 3 game packages and then have a few single game tickets to some of the games.
  14. tOSU or Michigan Michigan helps both our teams Minny or Illini Illinois gives them a little momentum heading into bowls PSU or Wisky Wisky helps Nebraska and possibly Iowa - depends on bowl committees thoughts on what isg going on at PSU Purdue or Indy Purdue gives us another bowl eligible team MSU or NW NW helps Nebraska (might move them into the Cap One). MSU keeps another higher ranked team heading into bowls. Other than MSU/NW I would think we would all be cheering for the same teams for conference and bowl positioning.
  15. I would add Vandy to the hit list. He just could not get it going yesterday and most of his numbers came in garbage time.
  16. I voted no. There were a few games in the (I think) 2007 season that Nebraska gave away several tickets on Friday evening before the game to preserve the streak. I know of this only because several of my co-workers in Omaha that were recent graduates and members of the alumni association received emails telling them that they could reserve tickets to pick up either Friday night or Saturday morning before the game for free on a first come, first serve basis in order to preserve the streak and one of them asked me if I wanted to go to the game with them. They had tried selling them on Wednesday and Thursday but couldn't get them sold and they needed to do something with them. Thus in my opinion since these were given away and not sold it should be over. Any school can just give away their tickets for free and claim a sell-out streak. Most don't.

    Iowa game

Just to defend bigg10 a little bit - he posted this before the season and at that time we hadn't lost by more than a TD in several years. I knew our D wouldn't be as good this year - but I would have never guessed it would be as piss poor horrible as it turned out to be. 2010: 7 2009: 10 2008: 8 2007: 15 2006: Bleh 2005: 20 2004: 17 2003: 10 That is all the further back Yahoo stats goes and I don't feel like looking around anymore since 7 out of the past 8 in the top 20 and top 10 the past 3 years kind of proves that he knew what he was talking about and you don't with respect to Iowa's defense. These numbers are pts/game since points are what win and lose games.
  18. It will most likely be Outback vs. either South Carolina or Georgia. Cap One has stronly hinted that they will take the loser of the championship game. They tend to be the least likely bowl to break from the actual Big 10 standings with their pick. So probably Michigan State (or definitely Wisconsin). The biggest thing that could throw a kink in things is if Penn State beats Wisconsin tomorrow and then loses the CCG. Not sure which bowls will want to end up associated with their baggage this year. My predictions for tomorrow are Michigan beats OSU and Wisconsin beats Penn State which gives: Rose: Wisconsin BCS at large (Fiesta): Michigan Cap One: Michigan State Outback: Nebraska This is where it gets tricky due to Penn State Insight: Iowa/Penn State Gator: Iowa/Penn State/Ohio State Meinke Car Care Bowl: Ohio State/Penn State Ticket City Bowl: Northwestern Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl: Illinois Iowa will be taken above Ohio State - I just don't have a feel for what the Insight will do about Penn State. The other 9-3 teams are easy to take over Penn State without even thinking about it and nobody HAS to take Penn State until you get all the way to the Little Caesar's Bowl, although Ticket City has stated they would take Penn State if they fell all the way to them. I am pretty sure that Penn State won't fall past the Meinke. My best guess is that if nothing else comes out in the next week that the Insight probably goes ahead and pulls the trigger on Penn State - but if PSU ends up back in the news this week they pass and take Iowa and PSU falls to the Meinke. It is just a gut feeling - but I don't think the Gator is interested in Penn State this year as they will have more intriguing storylines with either Iowa or OSU against the SEC opponent.
  19. That is the worst I have seen our offense play all year - and it was mostly due to the Blackshirts finally getting it done when they needed to. I was pretty happy that our defense had held you to 10 points at the end of their 30 minutes worth of being on the field - too bad that was still early in the 3rd quarter. I look forward to both of us winning our bowl games and then getting things figured out in the off-season so that we can actually be playing each other for the legends title next year in Iowa City!
  20. Nebraska will win because Iowa has a well documented problem with playing games when they have to travel west...
  21. You missed some undeniable truths about this season. 1. Nebraska will play 13 games, 8 of which will be conference games 2. Nebraska will win at least 8 games this year and possibly more including at least 4 in conference I am sure there are a few more - but those were the ones that jumped out at me.
  22. It won't take long before you start losing recruits if you start pulling scholarships from existing players.
  23. The key to good 3rd down conversions against Iowa is make sure you are in 3rd and long situations. If you are in 3rd and 4-5 we have a good chance of stopping you. However if it is 3rd and 7 or longer and your conversion rate should be something close to 90%. I don't get it at all - but that seems to be how we roll. eta: Heya Duff. Welcome to Huskerboard!
  24. Well, I did call this game the schizo's against the schizo's in another thread here
