  1. Not trying to sound like a dick, but Fla. St. and Clemson leaving the ACC for the Big 12 sounds like an absolutely ludicrous idea and I don't think that will ever happen and whoever that source is is most likely full of pooh. On a side note, ND is sitting pretty with being able to choose what to do. While the B1G makes the most sense, I could see them pulling the trigger on a different conference to keep national exposure (that is not stay in the midwest, not that the B1G doesn't get national exposure). I was about to post the same thing. espnu CFB live guy just pointed out that football only travels 6 times per year. That makes some of the geographic absurdity manageable if it is football-only the way the big east does it. But the Big12 doesn't do that so I have no idea what Clemson and FSU is thinking, if they are.
  2. We already knew he wasn't a running qb. Tmart would run circles around the SB police even though they'd yell "Where's Martinez?" upon breaking down the door. We didn't know that "assault" included knee contact when a cop chases you out of a party.
  3. I'm pretty emotionally attached to the Rose Bowl but I hear you. If they had to do away with it I'd love to see some kind of new 'classic' established at Soldier Field. I don't know if sponsors would go for that. The point of the bowls was that they were played in good weather so it could be a vacation for everyone. I'd love to see the SEC play in Soldier Field in January though.
  4. If you go by draft picks the ACC is probably a power conference.
  5. BillB is the Draft Knave, lol. Whatever Dennard did, he will be better in the Pats system.
  6. ESPNU also has decent coverage, college-centric of course.
  7. Mayock is great on Saturdays on NBC. Tom Hammond does not gel with our fans.
  8. Jan. 2 in Pasadena featuring Boise vs. Boston College? I wonder what our B1G brethren would think about *this*?? Well there was 2002 when the Rose Bowl was played in the Orange Bowl, but I suspect they were okay with Texas vs Wazzou.
  9. It's more about the death of the bowls, which is what made college football sui generis unlike any other sport in the world. now if you hate bowls that's understandable but also understand it means we're going to be just like everything else now.
  10. Well that was relevant. One bad action doesn't negate being the coach with the 2nd most National Championships in history nor all the philanthropic things he did either. Who was the champion of 1970?
  11. Having tie ins to the Big East and ACC is good way to keep a bowl game secret.
  12. If they'd go with a +1 model, the 5 major bowls and then the polls place 1 vs 2 on Jan 8th, the BigN could hold onto their Rose Bowl bid and everyone would be happy. But trying to put that into a 4 team playoff is just an enormous headache.
  13. There's that. Big# is also an older demographic from when winning the Nat'l Championship was a bit less important than winning your conference. Also they haven't been in THAT many national championship hunts. And when they were ranked in the top, there were certain years cough cough where they had a better chance being tied to the Pac10 champion.
  14. I wonder if the Big Ten would even consider Notre Dame, if any serious thoughts of conference expansion were develop in the future. Of course! They've been number one on the list for decades now. It doesn't matter how much they suck, what matters is how ND is perceived as being the default school to root for for millions of Catholics. Cool Catholics root Jesuit. Maybe I should say Lapsed Catholics root Jesuit. I count one that plays football. Is Gtown really going to be #2? As for the article. Yeah, but we stopped making BCS as soon as they started paying us not to.
  15. That was the Irish basketball version of roughing the center, discovered on UW fg attempt on 4th and goal in 2009. At least when that was invented we stuffed Jake Locker on 7th and goal.
  16. Had the ACC had a team ranked higher than Wisconsin (in this case, Clemson since they were ACC champs), that would've eliminated B1G from playoff contention in 2011. That's the drawback to this playoff system being pushed by Pac-12. Oh no I understand that, I just think that more often than not the ACC would be fighting an uphill battle to get in and the Big East certainly won't make it. True. It's telling when you calculate the number of BCS bowl game appearances by conference: B1G = 25 appearances - 11 at-large bids SEC = 23 appearances - 8 at-large bids Big 12 = 19 appearances - 5 at-large bids Pac-12 = 17 appearances - 4 at-large bids ACC = 15 appearances - 1 at-large bid Big East = 14 appearances - 0 at-large bids That tells me more about which teams bring more money with their at large bids.
  17. So you hate a coach simply because he out recruits a different coach? What about Bielema going for two when he's up by 25 because "the card says so" Amazing how a coach who hasn't even coached a single game (not even a spring one) can even remotely be considered the most hated coach in the Big10 and he was only half in the off season because the Big10 let them have two coaching staffs. Aww look. Another person whining about something every university has done on a regular basis that the NCAA grants on a regular basis. Another person apologizing for the Buckeye$. It wasn't done for us and not for everyone else.

  19. If Urban Meyer is not #1 with 80% it's because you've only been through half of one recruiting cycle.
  20. Nah, our mascot actually was intended as stereotypical joke about the Irish. The Brothers of the Holy Cross are a French Canadian order and "Fighting Irish" started off as a joke; like Yankee Doodle. Factoid: until the 1960s the mascot was an Irish Terrier. I'd bring him back to chase Southern Cal's Traveler.
  21. I'd like to see Michael Crow shoot off his mouth against a field of 7 other candidates to see if he's really the best ASU president.
  22. For tax purposes I'd put it on the Cayman Islands, built by Mexican labor with money borrowed from China.
