  1. +1 Thank you, Big Ten Network! :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs Since it's a Wyoming Home Game I'm sure it is the Mountain West's TV Contract that has the game on Versus.
  2. I'm pretty sure any games they show that you lose would just be to another Big 10 school. Yup. They will have to dig back to the televised games of the Golden Gophers demolishing NU in the '20s and '30s Were any of those games done in HD or 3D?
  3. I really hope they don't show that 84 Miami game. ESPNU has run that game into ground. I want to watch those games where we blew out the competition (95 season!) those games are so much fun to watch. Ladyhawke, I wholeheartedly agree, that game is painful. Let me approach this from a different angle. If you were introducing an entire fan base to Husker Football wouldn't that game, the 94 OB vs. FSU and some of the OU losses help to better understand Husker football? I know we hate to see those games, but shouldn't we also be proud of those games that have helped NU be what they have become? I'd argue the 92 OB where we got throttled by Miami is one to discuss about Husker football lore because that was really the final straw for TO to change what he was doing and the type of player he was recruiting and combined with the 94 OB set us up for 3 NC's in 4 years. We didn't just stumble into the 94, 95 and 97 seasons that was a man that had tremendous success changing what he did to let his teams get better. The 84 OB cemented TO's legacy. Ahh, who knows maybe that just makes sense to me. Thanks so much for that perspective. I've never considered the loses from that point of view. Thanks (It DOES make sense!!) I was at that 92 OB debacle, the weather before the game was so bad that they canceled the halftime spectacular. So the one time I got to the OB we get throttled and the only time I know of no halftime show. Yep, great evening!

  5. I would imagine that the Big Ten Network will try to show Nebraska in a very positive light so most of the old Husker games shown will be wins, but they may show some classics that we lost too. (1984 OB vs Miami and 1994 OB vs FSU come to mind) If they do it's not some vast Big Ten conspiracy against Nebraska. As of July 1 Nebraska will officially be part of the Big Ten Brand and from what I can see they protect the hell out of that brand.
  6. Isn't he being drafted as a pitcher? If so, how could he possibly be a poor thrower? From what I've seen on him, I don't think he's being drafted as a pitcher, he's a great athlete and an excellent hitter too. Having a good pitching arm doesn't always equate to being an accurate QB, but it should mean he has the tools to be able to improve.
  7. I thought this quote was interesting: "I do know this," Diener said, "He doesn't like people telling him that he's not going to play football." I wonder if that isn't more for the baseball people's benefit, a negotiation strategy. Letting them know they are going to have to pay him big dollars to get him to play baseball. If he goes in the top half of the 1st round the money will likely be way too good to pass up.
  8. Just saw a segment on him on KMBC Channel 9 in KC and he said it would be hard to pass up the money (from baseball). I don't think this young man will be wearing the Scarlet and Cream come this fall. I wish him much success in whatever he decides to do.
  9. While Suh is certainly deserving of both All Pro and Rookie of the Year. I think it will be difficult to overcome Bradford. The QB of a team that went from 1 win to 7 or 8 and a possible Play off birth (in the woeful NFC West, yet a potential PO birth) and the Lions have won what 4 games. I think the Higher Profile position on a team that did better probably wins Rookie of the year. I do hope I am wrong.
  10. man, i gotta get volleyball season tickets And they have to switch in between games, if it goes to a game 5 let the crowd vote who goes shirts and who goes skins!!!
  11. Aren't they out of school tomorrow on another one of the famous "Professional Development Days?" Mine are, but they aren't at North yet. Are there a bunch of Husker fans at North? My youngest is a huge Husker fan and wears her Husker gear all the time! Yes no school tomorrow they had to do it today either way because of football. You should come to a North game our son Jersey #1 leads the team in the husker prayer on the sideline right before the kickoff. The school only has soph and Jr. in there first year as you know. Its awesome seeing all those kids doing the prayer no matter what school they like they love doing it. When will your kids go to North? That's awesome. I'm amazed that they have won two games this year with no Sr. class!! Well, depending on how many more times they redistrict I've got a 6th grader and a 3rd grader, both girls and my 3rd grader wants to play football at NU, but will settle for being on the Women's BB team.

  13. I'd guess that this offseason the Big Ten Network will have a ton of Nebraska stuff to make sure that the rest of the conference becomes familiar with their history and in turn will also have programming for us Husker fans to become more familiar with the different schools and their traditions. I know I have been watching it a lot more already I like how they have included Penn State in their Top 10's etc. from even before they were in the conference. I trust they will do that with the Huskers too. I'm just torn figuring out if it will make the offseason more palitable or make it worse by building the excitement even more. I can't imagine why other conferences haven't jumped more quickly to mimic what the Big Ten Network has done. They have laid the groundwork so they don't have to reinvent the wheel. Oh well, I'm just glad we will be a part of it very soon.
  14. Boise St. is switching conferences cause the MWC is on the verge of becoming an AQ for BCS bowls but still hopefully now. They need to seriously take away the Big East automatic. That conference is crap since the ACC raided it. Say how did that Utah vs Alabama game work out? Oh that's right Utah smacked them down. I don't know why everyone wants to underestimate Boise St? That's why they lose to them. The MWC may have been close to becoming an AQ, but with BYU and Utah leaving I don't see BSU having the clout to make up for those two losses.
  15. If memory serves isn't this about the first article from an area surrounding the teams that are remaining under the Big Tex conference to really admit to this? I know in KC the talking heads keep saying how great this is for the remaining teams, how they will all get more money, how they are going to go get Arkansas and Notre Dame to join them how the new TV contract will be so huge, blah, blah, blah. I predict a total meltdown within the media in KC when the Big Tex conference folds in the next few years.
  16. Exactly - and those local fanbases don't travel anywhere! Even to the "fake-a-rivalry" game between ISU and KSU could only muster up 36,500 fans at Arrowhead. To further illustrate how bad this is. Two Division II teams play at Arrowhead every year in front of about 24,000. (The lowest was about 20,000 the highest a little more than 27,000)
  17. Definitely it's not perfect but it's still better. I don't think they will be debating how the #9 should have been the national champion years later so I think it's definitely an improvement. And if the #8 team beats the other top teams in the playoff I think they'd be deserving enough. What if #9 is an undefeated Boise St. or TCU? I would say the best playoff would have to be 16 teams, IMO. I love the playoffs, really wish D1A had it. It's a great time when your team is the last one in as the 24th seed and makes a run to the NC game all on the road...bummer to lose it on a dropped pass in the endzone that would have won it.
  18. OU has NOW had Texas since 1900, which is before they started playing NU. Also if the NU/OU “rivalry” meant the same to both sides they wouldn’t have voted against inter-divisional rivals when the Big 12 was formed. We would have stayed on each others schedules every year. That didn’t happen so that just proves that no matter what people want to believe we were always their #2 behind Texas. That game was huge just ask Switzer, we were #1 until he left The OU fans I know have always said that Texas was their most hated rival and NU was their most respected rival.
  19. IIRC Wiscy plays Penn State the last weekend.
  20. I've got a lot of friends that are Iowa fans, a few are ex-players and so far it's been no problem, of course living in Missouri I'm not living in the belly of the beast. I've been to Kinnick once, in 1992 vs. NW went to see four friends play their last home game, was at a tailgate got interviewed by a radio station because my buddy and I had come up from KC for the game, made the comment that I was a Husker fan but was up rooting for the Hawkeyes. Well, that was the same day that ISU beat NU when Tommie Frazier was a Frosh and just about everyone I met at the tailgate followed me around all day, buying me shots, saying I was a p***y Husker if it didn't drink them. Didn't experience anything bad with their fans, caught a lot of crap (rightfully so losing to ISU) and got so drunk I vowed to never go back to Iowa City, hmm guess now I'll have to change that vow now that NU will be there every other year. I'm really looking forward to this game, I'm sure my friends and I will make it a big party here in KC except those years we can make it to games.
  21. It wouldn't be right. Some fans would have liked it, but I think that you put it all out on the field once, and whoever wins that game is the superior team. After that, let the pollsters sort it out. 1) It is better than nothing that they decided to keep it (allegedly) at the end of the season. 2) It will suck if there are two games. It isn't the culture of this rivalry. Some rivalries if may have worked, like Nebraska and Oklahoma. I am not totally familiar with the traditions of that Rivalry, but UM-OSU is a strictly once a year tradition, like a religious holiday almost. 3) Not really. It is obviously better if you win the Big Ten, so that means the previous game is probably going to be of diminished importance, which is disheartening. 4) Sometimes, because of how Thanksgiving falls, it is on the fourth Saturday (like this year), but the majority are on the third Saturday. The specific weekend isn't as important, but it should be the last regular season game in late November, where it is the weekend before or after isn't as important (it is the third Saturday when possible). 5)I don't really understand this question. The match up is considered by most to be the best rivalry in sports on this continent. I don't think that matters much to fans of other teams though. On #5, I meant that the day it was on it was THE game pretty much in the country now it will be moved back a week to the weekend of Thanksgiving (Joe Pa has been complaining that the Big Ten became irrelevant after the 3rd weekend in Nov) where there are other rivalries on a national stage. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought part of the allure of that game was it was such a big game on the national level too. Just thinking it will lose some of that "national" luster. From an outsider I would think that's important, perhaps to an "insider" you'd disagree. I remember OU-NU being "THE" game that day after Thanksgiving and there wasn't really much any other big game on which I felt helped make it even bigger.
  22. Manhattan, A couple questions, I've tried to ask my friends that are tOSU fans, but all I get is smart arse answers, perhaps I can get the feel of tOSU faithful from you. Assuming that tOSU and UM are in different divisions does playing the last game of the year satisfy or appease the fan base? If it does, what will be the feeling if/when you have to play them in back to back weeks? Will that feeling be different if you win and then lose or lose then win? Also, you said playing the third saturday in Nov, you realize that it is highly likely that the last week of conference games will be the weekend after Thanksgiving (the 4th weekend) so is it the weekend that is important to the faithful or is it playing the last game of the conference season? Do you think there any lessening of the game (not necessarily in the eyes of tOSU & UM fans, but what about across the nation) with the possiblity of playing twice in a row AND sharing that weekend with other marquee matchups in the Big Ten? I'll be the first to admit I am not overly familiar with all the traditions in the Big Ten and out of respect of those traditions I am trying to get honest answers and not the "We'll be happy to beat UM twice a year" responses, which BTW is a similar answer I get when I've asked what tOSU fans around KC think of having Nebraska join the conference. Thanks in advance.
  23. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ They need the money.
  24. I've been having fun giving MU fans crap about the whole deal. It's not hard to shut them up. Just tell them that they are lucky Texas bailed them out, because they couldn't finish any higher than 2nd in the MIAA behing NW Missouri State(for those that don't know it's a DII conference mostly in Missouri and Kansas). That gets them riled up.
  25. Do you think they would split up Mich and Mich State? I was under the impression that was a pretty big rivalry. If they do just one rivalry game across divisions that would be Ohio State and would make the UM vs. MSU not happen on a regular basis. I think this may be the only time I've seen someone split those two teams. If they could do it like this I am all on board. We'd get UM, IA, Wiscy and Minnesota plus PSU as our cross division rivalry game...that would be great for Nebraska. Put NU vs. UM the day after Thanksgiving with OSU vs. PSU that's a heckuva line up for the day after Turkey Day. It may be a big thing in-state, but it means nothing in the national scene, It has no national relevance. It goes Michigan-OSU, Michigan-ND. Hell, Michigan-Wisconsin is more of a rivalry to most of us M fans I would say. Well alright then. I'm on board with this alignment. I know many Husker Fans would like PSU in our division, but I'd rather have Michigan or tOSU and play that game on the day after Turkey Day. That would quickly develop into a huge game. If it's Michigan it may take a few years because I'm not sold on RichRod bringing them back.
