  1. It'd be cool if Rex Burkhead was a blackshirt... But since he plays on offense, why are they making black jerseys with his number?
  2. He should say: "This time we're gettin it done! No excuses! This time we're gonna get it done!!!"
  3. Honestly, maybe it's just the hyped up feeling I get before a game, but I had the same feeling before the Washington and KSU games. I don't think we're going to have to pass as much as people think we are. We're going to run our offense, and while we may not break a bunch of 70 yard td plays, we're going to knock them off the ball, our receivers are going to make great blocks downfield, and we're going to churn out big chunks of yardage throughout the game. If Texas comes out with the same gameplan as SDSU, fine. We didn't struggle in that game because of SDSU's brilliant gameplan, or because of their amazing athletes. We struggled because WE didn't execute. If we take care of us, we'll be fine.
  4. I'm reminded of two historical Nebraska football games as we get closer and closer to tomorrow. 1. Tom Osborne's speech from the 1995 Orange bowl keeps running through my head. Nebraska had been outplayed in the first half, was down 10-7, and it looked like Miami was going to do what Florida teams had been doing to Nebraska all through the 80's and early 90's. But at halftime Osborne finished his prophetic speech by saying, "This time we're gettin' it done! No excuses! This time we're going to get it done!" 2. I don't think Nebraska has been this hungry for a victory since Oklahoma in 1978. How the hunger manifested itself on that day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pByDA7TmQ_w :01 FINISH
  5. That's why it's 12, not 7. Not to be anal, but its actually 11. The 12th note would just be an octave higher than the 1st. Nope it's 12. C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab A A#/Bb B
  6. Because they didn't meet the university or NCAA requirements? The NCAA qualification is a 2.5 GPA and 17 on the ACT (lower GPA requires higher test scores). I'm sorry but if you can't muster that you shouldn't be at a university. Why should an athlete be allowed in as a partial or non qualifier while anyone else would have to make the grades at juco? I won't dispute TO's genuine desire to want to help disadvantaged kids have a chance at something better by playing football, but from an academic perspective the system was always a joke. The academic system is a joke if you ask me, so your last statement doesn't hold much water with me.
  7. If in his junior year, Crick wins a conference championship and a national championship, could anyone blame him for going pro? On the other hand, if he doesn't get both of those things, he may reconsider staying at the end of the season.
  8. Just found the outtakes of Holtz's pep talk to Texas. Very inspiring stuff.
  9. Lou: "There's only seven musical notes..." And how in the world does Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address relate to this game? Wow.
  10. Tyrod Taylor... Blaine Gabbert... Landry Jones... Colt McCoy... Nick Foles... Nate Enderle... Jake Locker... Welcome to Lincoln, Garrett Gilbert. We hope you enjoy your stay.
  11. The 3 examples in the OP are about as good as it gets... Lord's effort wasn't quite on the level of the other two, in my opinion, because of that decisive interception at the end. Frazier and Suh truly had super-human performances in games where Nebraska was expected to get blown out, and did everything they possibly could have done, and then some, to put their team in a position to win.
  12. In the words of Bo: "If we lose?... I don't even want to think about that."
  13. oh no. right now we have the same colors as wisconsin, ncst., eastern washington, maryland, louisville, rutgers, utah, indiana, cornell, illinois st., fresno st., and so on and so forth. 'nuff said. Yeah. But seriously... TEXAS. TECH.
  14. If we wear black on gameday, then our colors are technically the same as Texas Tech's. 'Nuff said.
  15. I just think it's funny to look at all these different Texas writers and their mechanisms for coping with a 2 game losing streak.
  16. Sorry if this has already been posted someplace else...
  17. I thought that was 2002, under Solich. Still a terrible idea though. And definitely didn't work out too well.
  18. We tried to change once.....it rendered us unimportant to the college football landscape for about a decade. The uni we currently have is iconic there is no reason to change it. Changing uniforms for a particular game proves you are putting more emphasis on it than other games and more often than not it makes the players try too hard and then all goes to hell. Recent examples Georgia, VTech, NU all whites debacle. Changing uniforms DOES NOT render how you play. Holy Buckets! Did people b*tch and moan when we took the stripes off the pants after winning national titles...the 1997 team changed its uniform and look what happened, they won a national title. Wear the 97 style uniforms, even go back to the loose jersey, the plain white pants and the long white socks/shoes. That is the only decent Nebraska uniform there has ever been. As said before... They make minor changes to the uniform every year, which I'm ok with. But all-reds is not a minor change, and it's cursed. And the N on the helmet is our identity. It's sacred ground. You don't mess with the N on the helmet.
  19. Oh really? because Ohio State has used different uniforms, for the michigan game last year. Oklahoma has used a white helmet instead of its norm. Oklahoma's helmet was a throwback. And I'm ok with changing the uniforms to a degree, but I'm pretty sure the all-reds are cursed. See OU game in 1986.
  20. Nope, gotta stick with the old-school "N." College football is great because of the history, the tradition, the pageantry of the sport. And every little detail contributes to that. If Nebraska changes the "N" on the helmet, then they've lost a powerful symbolic link between the current players and the legends of the past. It not only changes the game for everyone watching it, but it changes the tenor of the program. There's a reason when people think of college football juggernauts, they think of Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, USC... and not Oregon. Keep the "N," the same, and while the all-reds don't look as bad as the block "N," I'm pretty sure they're cursed.
  21. I hope not. The traditional helmet is best, and the all-reds are cursed.
  22. The problem during that game wasn't so much SDSU shutting down the run game as much as it was the players shooting themselves in the foot. The players took that game for granted and tried to make things happen and it backfired. Personally, I don't see this game being very close. I see the Nebraska players putting out 110% effort during this game. Exactly. South Dakota State usually had two spies on Martinez, which is an incredibly stupid gameplan - except that Martinez, instead of handing the ball off when he should have in the zone read, kept trying to keep it himself and make big plays. If Texas tries to take away Martinez in the zone read, that's fine - because that gives Helu or Burkhead an opening. If they try to take away both the QB and the RB, they're going to leave some holes in their pass coverage. They have to pick their poison. And no matter how they gameplan, if Nebraska executes its offense, there will be a point where Texas takes a wrong step and Martinez will make them pay.
