  1. After 10 years away from the capital city....I'm moving back. I'm trying to line up as much as I can before I get there. I don't really want to use Time Warner or Windstream for Internet. Anybody know of some good alternatives? Thanks
  2. Cactusboy, Why do you hate the police? You clearly have an issue with them. You take every opportunity to use a story here and there to make them all look bad. It would be like a person reading only your posts on Huskerboard and then thinking that all of us on the board were ignorant because of your content. My personal favorite was your 'waste of taxpayer money thread' from a few months back. Keep up the good work.
  3. For me it isn't about losing fans. If they are still there now, they will be there tomorrow. I am at best a novice basketball fan, but I watch every Husker game I can. I happen to believe that it should be unacceptable that Doc's teams are outplayed the last 5 minutes of the first half and the last ten minutes of the second half in nearly every single game. They have no offense whatsoever and haven't in some time. The can't shoot or handle the ball and the make senseless turnovers. Our basketball program has no tradition (except being losers) and at somepoint that needs to stop. I believe even a decent team will pack that new arena. I'm not trying to sensational here, but the current program is far from decent.
  4. I don't see how this goes on much longer. I guess we can give Doc one more year, but I really don't see why. He completely lost me after his post game comments after the disaster at Northwestern. I'm paraphrasing, 'Everyone wants us to score points....we don't need to score points we need to execute on defense'. I know very little about basketball, but I can tell you that Ubel is weak. I understand they probably have no choice but to play him. Talley picks up his dribble at the worst time over and over and over again. He also dribbles with the ball so far out and high in front of him he looks like he is in highschool. No one wants to shoot either......kind of why it is irrelavant that they are such a good free throw team. Let's just start building this program now instead of waiting until 2013 to fire Doc. I'm so tired of hearing about facilities being a big reason why Nebraska struggles.
  5. I would add a scale to every entrance. You can figure the rest out yourself.
  6. I love how this article immediately sets the foundation that inmates are victims. I have actually thought about this quite a bit before. Why don't we have inmates make products/services that don't compete with things currently manufactured domestically? I don't want to go Shawshank and compete with jobs currently held by Americans. Put them in a boring cell if they don't want to work. Offer cable, phone, rec privileges that only someone with the means to pay for it could have.....kind of like the real world.
  7. A game manager is a 'coach' on the field. Has strong leadership abilities. Patient, relaxed and doesn't make mistakes. I don't really think big plays have anything to do with it. edit...They may or may not make big plays...it doesn't matter. Taylor made Pangia size improvements in this department this year. Many want the kid to pop off 40+ yard runs. I would rather see he 'manage' the game.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear from this kid soon. I like that the staff didn't waste a scholie, but I think this kid fits in with what Beck is trying to do. Win Win as far as I'm concerned.
  9. Who the hell wrote all of these descriptions for each position? Lot of work.
  10. BOTH They can't hit a three, lay up or a put back. It's terrible.
  11. Basketball Novice Posting Warning: Is Nebraska's offense that bad or do they just not have the players (Poor Shooting & Turnovers)? I watched Creighton today and it looked like just about anyone they put on the floor could score.
  12. Actually, I've answered quite a few questions in this thread alone. If there are more questions in this thread that you would like me to answer I would be happy to take a stab at them. Fire away. Also, I think I've explained and defended my opinion several times in this thread alone. In fact, if I am reading this correctly we share opinions on a few historical questions. I'm not sure where you are reading that I think that the rules don't apply to me. They do. Regarding the last: I suppose it depends on your definition of fairly young. I'm sure college kids think that I'm old. 50 year olds probably think that I'm still a child. No children yet that I'm aware of (knock on wood ) but a wife. We're actually about the same age....I think. Just different life experiences. Please don't take the life experiences thing as a negative because it isn't meant to be. I use to share similar views to most on this in this politics/religion forum. Things change though. Might actually be an interesting thread....'What event(s) shaped your Social/Political views. I'm done with this thread for today though. You are like arguing with my wife. I'm right (in my head), and there is no way I will ever win.
  13. Whining? Classy. Does that mean that you can't answer the question? I've responded to your rable all day long and you keep asking questions. You never answer any questions....laughable. I'm done with you for...at least for today. I hope that eventually you can substantiate your claims. It would be a shame if it turned out that it was all bluster with no foundation in reality. sorry...i edited.
  14. Whining? Classy. Does that mean that you can't answer the question? I've responded to your rable all day long and you keep asking questions. You never answer any questions....laughable. I'm done with you for...at least for today. You're really good at it. Posting a link or graph and then standing back waiting to pounce. Rarely do you ever explain your stance. It's much easier to needledick holes what someone else writes. You question the sources of information that people post from, but the same criteria doesn't apply to you. You hold others to standards that you don't even hold yourself to. It's a skill....good for you. You really seem like a pretty smart guy. I'm guessing you are fairly young and have no children.
  15. I'm sure if you wanted to dig enough, those saying Obama has created jobs probably are saying Rick Perry didn't create any in Texas.
  16. Oof. That's more like a book than a message board post but I will try. It will be extremely abbreviated. Sorry. The U.S. and Japan were warring economically prior to Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor turned the war of words and sanctions into a shooting war. Japan's invasions in Manchuria and the Pacific islands threatened the U.S. economically and militarily. The well known island campaigns and naval battles followed. (The battles I've studied most closely are the big naval battles at Midway and Leyte . . . love the "crossing of the T" in Leyte Gulf . . . and Guadalcanal/Iwo/Okinawa.) After the U.S. was within airstrike range of mainland Japan the decision was made to apply enough pressure to the people and economy of Japan to make a surrender by the ruling regime palatable. No one really wanted to have to invade Japan. This was the alternative. The pressure worked. Japan surrendered. I have little doubt that if we could have obtained the same result (the end of the ruling regime and the removal of Japan's military threat) with killing fewer Japanese citizens we would have done so. If you're interested in my opinion, I think the ends did justify the means (firebombing and nuclear weapons). The Japanese government initiated the shooting war and seemed quite willing to continue it through a land invasion. That would have been enormously costly in US lives and money. In this type of war I am more comfortable with the enemy paying that price. Anyways, are you arguing that the goal of the war in the Pacific was to kill as many Japanese people as possible . . . just for the sake of killing them? Wasn't the estimate at something like a million us troops, for the invasion? I'm merely guessing, but I think that sounds about right. I'm glad they chose the route they did, becuase my grandfather and uncle were sitting in ETO waiting to ship out for the Pacific. A million+, but I think it is unlikely you will get a response. The bombs saved countless American lives. This was a culture that was teaching it's women how to kill in an invasion via suicide. Carlfense picks out 1 word, doesn't answer any questions, then poses another. NOWHERE in anything did I say that there is that the objective in war is to crush a country. I did say we could crush Afganistan, or any enemy for that matter, if our hands weren't tied. We would rather spare one Afghan goat herder than an American soldier. If that is the situation we are going to put our men in, then get them out. edit: Carlfense will turn that into that I want to kill innocent civilians.
  17. We will never win in Afghanistan...or we won't win it with Military Lawyers looking over the shoulders of our group. We are not able to fight the kind of war that would crush this country. There is no reason to put the bravest men in our country on line to fight for their lives with their hands cuffed. It was a mistake and we should leave.
  18. I'm sure this put them over the top. They were definately on their way to loving us fully. Just like all those in Iraq, Egypt and Libya are loving us right now. Who said anything about them loving us? I think you missed the point. I'll explain it to you in more detail if necessary. They hate us and they will always hate us. The argument that us 'throwing more fuel on the fire' holds no water with me. Trying to be everyones friend on the world stage is no different than real life. No one respects you and think you are a douche. I don't how anyone could possibly argue that PC high road mentality that we currently operate under has been effective. Why anyone cares what a 15th cenurty, women oppressing throwback culture think of Americans is beyond me. I have no doubt we would be in better shape if lady liberty threw her middle finger in the air. No details necessary.
  19. Opinion vs. Fact I have not read the Cornell link, but I will. Demand for Oil vs. Need for Pipeline I think the risk question is relevant, but it gets back to my entire point. What is the real risk? I argue that we don't know. Bitumen by itself doesn't appear to be anything that could do a lot of damage given a reasonable response. That being said, I have no idea what the hydrocarbons are that are mixed with the Bitumen allow it to be transported via a pipeline. What are the interlocks and failsafes of a pipeline built in 2012 and beyond...I don't know. Being involved in manufacturing, I will tell you that accidents do happen and I will not minimize the risks assoiciated with this project. Is anyone even talking about the worst oil disaster in US history (that just happened) anymore? Jobs You are clearly taking the side that the number of jobs is being overstated. I don't disagree with you. The problem is, I would venture to say that the other side is grossly understating the economic (jobs) impact of such a project. Jobs reach far beyond those that just work on the pipeline. That is why when a large facility closes in a small town, the town dies. You don't need a restaurant, gas station or shoe store if there are no other jobs. This is the primary reason why I get so bent out of shape about the lose of manufacturing jobs in America. Because those 200 manufacturing jobs employ another 20+ (I'm making up my own numbers here) in other industries.
  20. I read this earlier, but it didn't get into what he said or did. Kid did something stupid. If I needed some talent, I would take a chance on him. I would give him a real real real short leash.
  21. I'm sure this put them over the top. They were definately on their way to loving us fully. Just like all those in Iraq, Egypt and Libya are loving us right now.
