  1. I wholeheartedly agreed with everything in this post. Very nicely put, Guy. So you agree with the part in bold? Yes So you believe that those who disagree with protesting the national anthem are racist? Is that correct? If so, please explain. Of course not. I believe that good people can be racist....which is exactly what Guy said. Racism has multiple layers. I think it's more complex than labels suggest.

  3. -Statement just issued by Ronnie Green. I especially enjoyed the bolded portion.

  5. Here's the thing...freedom of speech is a 2-way street. Someone earlier made a point that players should be allowed to express themselves even if it leads to divisions within the team and the program. I am all on board with freedom of speech and expression but also am on board with the criticism that follows. So if the players can voice their concerns, why isn't Ricketts allowed to voice his concern....because of the impact it may have on recruiting? I personally thought the articles was poorly written and only considered one side of the debate. Anytime a political topic is injected into a team environment, it's going to create opposing views and conflict. Ricketts did not initiate the topic but was responding to actions taken by the players. People can disagree with him just as many disagree with the players. With that said, I do hope MRI and Ricketts have a nice conversation. They shouldn't have tried to tell Riley how to do his job. I don't recall Riley ever telling either of them how to do theirs.
  6. The empty can rattles the loudest. Hopefully those outside the Husker bubble can understand that.
  7. Michael, DaiShon, and Mohamed, if nothing else, exposed certain people of power at this university to be less than reputable citizens with unequivocally ugly opinions. It's unfortunate that we are being represented by some of those people at this school, but hopefully consequences will be coming for them. We'll be better for it. It's not an attractive headline for us, in terms of national attention, but this is no time to hide. This is time for change. I applaud the three for acting on their beliefs with conviction.
  8. I'd like to see him end up at USC. He's so eccentric and his football style matches up with the traditional Trojan offense.
  9. Well someone is back pedaling real fast... If I were Daub I'd be rowing that boat away from the falls as hard as I could. I'm guessing the LJS has that interview on tape, though. You would think he would realize in today's age of technology and being able to get news at a moments notice he would have maybe put some thought into his comments. And yeah all rowing is gonna do is make him very tired before he goes over the fall... Close minded folks like Mr. Daub aren't very good at realizing things. Well this will make for a great life lesson for him ...if he possessed the mental capacity to realize how idiotic his opinions are, but, based on his comments on the issue, I don't believe he does.

  11. Not true. The message being sent is that all whites have benefitted from the systems of racism, while minorities have suffered. That's a very different message than, "You are a racist." and it's also unfortunately sad that so many of us can't admit to being fortunate to be given opportunities that others haven't because of their skin color. A second message being sent is that being silent, being unconcerned, being in disagreement with the notion that whites have benefitted while minorities have suffered is to choose the side of oppression. That's a different conversation, but it's still hardly something that should be taken as a personal attack. It's a plea to listen and to see, to have compassion and empathy, to look out for each other. So when some of the people leading a BLM protest chant "What do we want? Dead Cops! When do we want them? Now!" and "Pigs in a blanket, Fry em like bacon!" They're just good, concerned citizens letting people know that we lack compassion and empathy. Please note, I used the word some, not all. It's probably best when talking about these issues not to lump everyone together. BLM is very decentralized in the sense that any person or people can claim it while doing things not represented by the 'official' movement. As an actual organization, BLM hasn't and wouldn't ever spout rhetoric like this, and is consistently quick to condemn rogue people trying to hijack the movement for obviously hateful and misguided agendas. ^
  12. I'm glad Mike Riley is our head coach, you guys.

Where is the crowd who was calling for him to be fired this past year to so?

I was calling him to be fired last year after the Illinois debacle. I knew that it wasn't realistic and his job was safe. I admit that he has done a good job with the team this year, but it's still a long ways to go. I am also leery on the long-term success aspects for Riley.

I went to the Illini game. (My son's first game! Ugh.) I was very disappointed. But still thought it would set us back even further to start from ground zero again. JMHO.

  13. Regardless of how likely or unlikely this hire would be, you can't deny Les' connections. He probably has a gigantic network down in Louisiana. We all know they have tons of athletes down there. Adding him to the staff would bring knowledge, perspective, and recruits.
  14. I would imagine Mike Riley had something to do with it. Or did he specifically say that he chose Nebraska because he didn't want to be coached by his dad at LSU?
  15. ^ I'll give you that. I've always hated when they focus on black/white/silver instead of their school colors. Like in the national championship against Ohio State. Classic Buckeye home uniforms vs. the Ducks' white helmets, black numbers, silver feathers, and silver pants. You have how many uniform combinations and that's what you end up with when you go against Ohio State? A team whose secondary color is silver? The orange isn't my favorite, but maybe it will look better in the actual game.
  16. I mean, I get it. I understand why, but...damn. I hate seeing orange on Oregon's uniforms. Hard pass.
  17. My heart agrees with you, but my mind is telling me to hang on a second.
  18. MR press conference said something like that .... "tallest grass I've ever seen" http://thebiglead.com/2013/10/05/northwestern-stadium-grass-is-ankle-deep-and-wet/ I get it but...here me out... If the tall grass makes a guy that runs a 4.6 start running a 4.9 doesn't it also make a guy that runs a 4.9 run a 5.2? So, if the OSU players were slower than they usually are on turf...aren't the NW players also slower? I have always thought this as well. It only makes sense to me. All players are slowed down, so why does it make a difference? I never have understood the concept of taller grass to slow down the faster team. Because it is not a real thing. People like to pretend like it is but it clearly would impact both teams the same exact way. I don't really think it makes that much of a difference. But the theory is that it will slow the "speed" team down while the "power" team won't be affected. Since they're moving slower but with more power, they aren't affected as much. It's probably true to some extent. It would be harder to run in long grass. But I think that extent is basically negligible. There it is.
