  1. He is definitely not head coach material in my book unless it is for some high school. As for DC, I even have doubts about his abilities there too; he had lots of help from great recruiting at LSU and after the Callahan players left, his defenses at Nebraska went downhill. Giving up 70 points in one game and 400+ yards rushing to one RB in another is not my idea of a good defense. Don't hate the guy, just don't like what he did for Nebraska football.
  2. I would take him over Bo but would prefer that he goes and makes a name for himself as a head coach somewhere else before we brought him in. I want a proven head coach and not another coordinator-to-head coach hire.

  4. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/11/30/7309591/nebraska-football-coaching-search-candidates-bo-pelini I am still a fan of bringing in Bohl, he has proven he can coach (head coach) up a team and bring in talent to one of the most remote locations in the country. He would bring back the power running game and playing solid defense. Mark Stoops is also an interesting choice, not sure if he would be interested in the job however. Scott Frost would be great to have as a OC and possible head coach in waiting. I know a lot of people want Jim Tressel and perhaps he will be the next coach at Nebraska but me being a Ohio native I just worry about what he will bring. He does have some baggage (two blowout losses in NC games) and the tattoo scandal. He also has a lot of Ohio ties, how motivated will he be to beat Ohio State in games? He does have a lot of upside also (proven winner at Youngstown State and Ohio State, good record (not great) in bowl games and knows how to beat Michigan. Not much of a fan of anyone else on that list.
  5. I feel for the players but the program was not going to ever get to the next level with Bo as coach.
  6. Call me absolutely shocked, didn't think it would ever happen even though I have been hoping for it since '11.
  7. What happens now? Nothing, business as usual; crappy recruiting, blow out losses to the good teams next season along with 9 more wins and no division title. But if that is what the majority of fans expect and want, guess that is what we will continue to get.
  8. Doesn't matter how much I dislike Bo, I would never cheer for the opposing team. Besides, Bo seems to know how to beat himself without our help cheering the opposition. Do I believe we will beat Iowa? I'd say we have a 50% chance.
  9. Oops, sorry. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/11/23/7270227/bowl-projections-2014-college-football-playoff-predictions
  10. I don't really have a specific coach wish list but I do have a wish list for what a potential coach will bring to Nebraska football. A return to the power running game (preferably with a good dose of option and play action passing). A grind the clock mentality instead of score fast and often one (probably not to popular with the younger generations). A big, powerful offensive line to go with the running game. A return to that physical Nebraska that teams dreaded playing on Saturday's. Is that too much to ask for this Christmas?
  11. Music City Nebraska Missouri 12/30/2014 Nashville, TN ACC 3-6/Big Ten 5-7 vs. SEC 3-8
  12. Wisconsin 26, Iowa 24, 5 minutes left in the game.
  13. "NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma freshman Samaje Perine set a major college record by running for 427 yards in a driving rainstorm, scoring five touchdowns and leading the No. 23 Sooners over Kansas 44-7 Saturday." So I guess our defense is now on the same level (slightly better) as Kansas'.
  14. For some Husker fans, Bo can do no wrong. They say fire the coordinators but they are the people Bo hired. As long as the core is rotten, the rest will rot too.
  15. One question. Does Nebraska appear to be slower because of sheer athletic ability, or is it because of what so many have been suspecting and what Jake Cotton has pretty much confirmed? (too much thinking. not enough playing) But, yeah, the thing about SEC looking bigger faster strong is such a crapload of BS. I watch a lot of football, and I guess i just dont see such a glaring difference. I have always felt like the SEC has been known for it's speed going way back. The Miami teams we used to play and Florida in 96. That's all they talked about was their speed or when they talked about the SEC as a whole that's what they talked about. I do think Nebraska looks lost like they're thinking to much and not playing which has been even more stupefying this season and last season also after hearing our so called coaches say that they were going to 'simplify' things. Sometimes even the simplest things can be made confusing if the source that the information is coming from doesn't know how to explain something effectively and efficiently or just doesn't know what they're talking about. I would blame the players but this has been going on for years now so these coaches are the one's to blame imo when it comes to the 'current state' of NU. I don't think it has anything to do with Nebraska's speed or lack thereof. I'm right with you on that one, was watching those championship games recently and all they talked about was the speed of Miami, Florida and Tennessee. We had the formula for beating them way back then and decided to get cute and change things. What a disaster it has been. I want to see us return to the team that Osborne created, the team that people hated to play because we were so physical.
  16. I actually began to question Bo's coaching ability after Texas beat us during the 2010 season when Texas couldn't beat their way out of a brown paper bag. I chalked it up as a fluke. Even after the 2011 beat down's at the hands of Wisconsin and Michigan, I told myself that it was probably due to our being new to the conference and not used to the way Big Ten football was played. 2012 verified my suspicions however; Bo does not know how to coach. He is great at beating lesser opponents but on the big stage he completely flops. Here is one thing I recently asked myself; if Bill Callahan were still coach, could he have accomplished the same as Bo? The scary thing is, I believe that he could. Bo's best defensive years were with Callahan's players so maybe Callahan (not defending the man) had turned the corner with the poor defenses. So what we have today is a fanbase that is afraid to change coaches but what they don't realize is that we have exactly the same as we had with Bill Callahan but with worse recruiting and more childish behavior. Looks like we are heading to the Holiday Bowl, any bets on who will win? Holiday Bowl Dec. 27 San Diego, Calif. Big Ten vs. Pac-12 Nebraska vs. UCLA
  17. I would take a chance on Frost for head coach. Would rather he come in here after being head coach some other place first but in either case I think he would be an upgrade to what we currently have.
  18. Welcome to the boards! I'm a Ohio Husker fan also. Fell in love with the Huskers watching them on TV in 1983 (what a great team that was!) when I was in 9th grade. I too am a huge fan of the option and would love to see its return. I don't like the offense they run today, we aren't scaring anyone or wearing down opposing defenses with it like the "Nebraska I" (agree with The Duke, it was more of a pro-style option) did years ago. It seems that everyone is in love with the Spread Option these days but to me it just seems to be the fastest way to get your defense back on the field but I guess the fans today love seeing those high scoring games.
  19. What really gets me is that Gordon looked very good against the lower tier teams in the Big Ten but against us he looked like Superman. What gives? Do we have worse athletes than Illinois (175 yards), Maryland (122 yards) and Rutgers (128 yards)? I believe the failure lies with the coaching. New players, same results as previous blowout loses against Wisconsin.
  20. Willie Fritz - proven he can turn a program around and make it a winner. Craig Bohl - Even though many don't like him, he was able to turn North Dakota State into a powerhouse. There is a difference between being a DC and a HC. Scott Frost - Not a big fan of making a coordinator a head coach (see Pelini) but I think he might make a good one. Would rather wait until he gets a head coaching job somewhere else and proves he can be a good head coach before bringing him in here.
  21. OK, probably not, but if you take away all of the carries they gave to their other backs and added them to his, averaging over 16 yards per carry, he could have. If he had just played the 4th quarter, probably would have easily surpassed 500 yards which is pretty remarkable. Most QB's dream of that kind of stat line. I seriously thought I was watching a NCAA Football video game where some elite team from the past was playing some poor, lowly FCS opponent and seeing how badly they could punish them. It almost reminded me of the Callahan years defenses. I stay pretty quite on these boards but when the Huskers are embarrassed I do need to vent my frustration. I've been saying that Bo needs to go since 2011 after being embarrassed twice on national TV. His best defensive units were with Callahan recruited players. Bo has embarrassed the Huskers with his coaching, his sideline antics and his dealings with the media. The day Frank Solich was fired, Nebraska lost its identity and has yet to get it back. We need to hire a coach who will bring back that identity. I would love to see Nebraska get back to that big bully program which Wisconsin more closely resembles today than we do. But who to get? Considering Callahan and Pelini do not have Nebraska roots, it is pretty obvious what one of the prime requisites would be for the next coach.
  22. Went back through some of the old recruiting on Rivals and noticed that Nebraska hasn't picked up a 5 star recruit since 2008 and the number of 4 star recruits has dropped pretty significantly since joining the Big Ten (eleven 4 stars in 2011 to four 4 stars in 2014). Cause for concern?
  23. Watching the 96 National Championship and just in awe at how dominate that team was. Watching the Tennessee game next.
