  1. Wow. Did everyone have their Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches this morning? I'm guessing no.
  2. As a girl college student who lived in the dorms and had trouble adjusting to being away from home, I can say that these are all great ideas (well, minus the lokos!) Also, decorations is spot on. It may not be a main Christmas present as far as price, but picture frames with family pictures, or other ways to display photographs would be a good one. I know when I graduated high school my aunt made me these picture boards, made of foamboard covered with fabric and ribbons stretched across that you can put snapshots on..very stylish in the dorm and a great way to keep pictures from home around Maybe take her shopping and let her get some stuff for her room, a new bedspread or rug perhaps. Another one I just thought of, if she loves her coffee (I know I basically always had coffee brewing in my dorm) and you are willing to spend the cash, they make these great coffee makers now that come with individualized packets that make a cup of coffee at a time. And it's really tasty too. They run at about $140 though. Hope this helps! Just trying to add some ideas to the idea pile
  3. Maybe I'm just blind, but I always thought that was a pizzaheadbunny. An interestingly delicious idea. I always thought it was based on this:
  4. This does bring up some good points. The Donaghy story does put a good perspective on it, that knowing the bias of the referrees (towards players, in that instance; not teams) can be shown to directly effect the outcome of a game. I have no doubt that bias exists in officiating; Even umpiring for ten-year-olds kickball games, I know how bias can creep in. However, I'm still hesitant toward the idea that the bias of the big XII refs is caused by our leaving. While there are undoubtedly people who are left with a bad taste in their mouths over our joining the B10, is it that strong among refs? Are the reasons stated in the OP enough to cause pointed widespread bias among officials?
  5. This thread gets two thumbs up. And a pancakeheadbunny. Also, my brother's friend's dad's hairstylist knows a guy who knows Martinez's dads tax guy, and he says that Martinez had eggs for breakfast, which is a sure sign he's thinking of transferring..
  6. Reading the comments on that article, I think it's funny that other fans call us "bugeaters" as an..insult apparently? I'm proud of that old name personally.
  7. Hah, well if any guy said something like that about me at a game they'd have my man to deal with Although it might be hard to get him to come as he's a hardcore Iowa fan. Hey, the heart wants what it wants. And yeah, I might say something like that at a game! I'm not saying I'm not going to talk to the people around me, but that's not why I go. You're right though, everyone has a different definition of fun. I like my fun without a side dish of hangover and "who/what the hell did I do last night?" haha.
  8. Some comedian once said to women, "You know how you are when you're really horny? That's how guys are when they're not even thinking about it." So drunk or not, that's just the way we are. I think there's some gray area to be found there. I doubt you, Landlord and/or Newearth are going to games by yourselves. I'm sure at some time you've gone with friend/Parent/child/sibling/loved one/whatever, and you hung out before the game, talked about the game, ate some food, whatever. You did that at your house or a friend's, or at a tailgate. For most the people who go to games, that's what we do. The folks who do keg stands or half a dozen shots before a game are rare, as are those who have humongous tailgates with the giant smoker and five briskets smoking all day. Most people hit a bar or a restaurant, walk around the stadium, then go to the game and their focus is on the game, not the trappings around it. Those trappings are just for fun, like the parsley garnish on your pasta at Vincenzo's. The pasta is the focus. Not once today have I stated that I thought men were or weren't horny at certain times. All I said was that when they're drunk, a lot of guys act like jerks. Whether or not they can help it isn't the issue, I just don't like to be around it and that's why I don't like the student section because..well, for obvious reasons. Also, I'd like to point out that I said it's fun to go with friends and family. I'm not saying I don't enjoy talking to my friends at games, but that's not the main reason I go. The main reason is the game-or as you call it, the pasta. But there's a difference between hanging out with my family or boyfriend and "meeting girls" or "socializing". I keep to myself at games. If people wanna have a few drinks, that's fine. I'm not stopping them. But as I said, it's not my thing. The OP's question was whether or not people went to the game to party, and in my case that's a resounding "no".
  9. Well guys vocalize a lot more about being horny when they're drunk. -.- My style is football. I guess I agree with Landlord and Newearthhusker. I'm there for the players, not to "socialize". I can do plenty of that here on Huskerboard where there are mods to filter out the jerks Although I do much more reading than posting.
  10. I'm a UNL student. I don't go to many games, but when I do, it's for the guys on the field, not the ones in the stands. Yeah it's fun to go with friends and family, but I don't get drunk and I don't go to meet people. Sure, those things are great but that's not why I go. I don't even drink at games. For me, going to the games is a chance to watch the 'skers without an announcer blabbing in my ear. It's also for the atmosphere, the loud music and cheering on the team. But I don't go to "party", that's just not really my style. I'm usually sickened by most of the DB's on campus anyway, so having to deal with them when they're drunk and horny is about nine times worse in my opinion. I think I might be a "blue-hair" trapped in a female college-student's body, though..xD Show me a group of fans who are loud, appreciative, and focused on/knowledgeable about the game and that's where I want to be.
  11. Make a new thread if you want; I don't really think there's much to it. I just want to facepalm every time a drunk chick asks how many points you get for kicking the ball through the yellow poles. Or dude for that matter. Not all girls are that way, that's all I had to say. So Bo wants us to be louder, eh? Hmm, how 'bout that.
  12. Does not compute. touche. I should have been more specific, it's getting old to me haha!
  13. I don't want to continue the derailment of this thread, so I'll just say this: Believe me, I understand that guys are hard-wired that way and they're gonna do it. That's why I offered up the cheerleader solution I just felt that it needed pointing out that some of us are more inclined to say "C'mon Niles, catch the d*mn ball!" than to say "Like, is Taylor Martinez a blackshirt? I am sooo wasted. What are you doing later?" I'm not one to get pissed when men objectify women because I know it happens. But to say all girls see the game as a "social event" is something I gotta speak up about. Some of us do know what we're talking about..not all, but some </rant>
  14. As a girl who spends most of her time reading this board or arguing football with her boyfriend, I can tell you that nothing annoys me more than the drunk sorority girls who go to the games just to get laid with a drunk frat boy. I'm sure they're fun to look at. Isn't that what cheerleaders are for, though? I don't wanna come off as a "feminazi" but the whole beer, football, chicks thing is getting kind of old. If you have to be super drunk and have boobs waved in your face in order to enjoy a football game, one would question your true motives for being at the game at all. Yeah, go to the game, have fun, have a few drinks, cheer for your team. If you want to sit and be quiet then go to a sports bar and/or library. If you want to get drunk and look at boobs go to a strip joint and/or frat party. Just sayin'.
  15. I kind of agree, not a rivalry but definitely a series I'm going to miss. I don't think there's many hard feelings towards Kansas (although I could live without the "rock chalk jayhawk" chant). It really is the end of an era though, and definitely makes me nostalgic.
  16. Honestly, I think they can't beat Iowa because Iowa is a much stronger team, this season at least. I think Iowa state is starting to get something going offensively, which was evidenced by a win on Texas last week (although this should be taken with a grain of salt--Texas couldn't get it together much in the same fashion Nebraska couldn't the week before). Still, I give ISU credit. They were running on all cylinders during that game where Texas clearly wasn't. However, Iowa beat ISU this year because they were the better team. Iowa State may be finally getting their offensive game going, but Iowa has one of the top ranked passing QBs in the country in Ricky Stanzi. Yup, Iowa State beat Texas, but I still look forward to trouncing them in Ames. And if we don't (*cough* eight turnovers *cough*) I'll be confused and devastated. Just like Iowa, Nebraska is a much stronger team than ISU this year and if we don't beat them it'll be because of our own folly.
  17. Seriously though guys, I don't see how K-state is even a D1 program, half of their players are also on the cheerleading squad; I predict Martinez runs for 385 yards and passes for 200 to Paul, every time. Also, Alex Henery will go up into the stands and kick a 115-yard field goal while Daniel Thomas tears his ACL standing in line for the bathroom. Final score 116-3, easy. Now excuse me while I go refill my kool-aid flask..
  18. I had a friend schedule his wedding during the WKU game this year. He's an Iowa State fan and their game was on that Thursday. I told him I couldn't make it. He wasn't that good of a friend anyway.
