  1. I'm from Ohio and think the reason could be a few things. 1. Not enough film on him and if he wasn't attending camps due to injury they couldn't get a look at him there either. 2. Archbishop Alter is a very solid program in OH HS football. However they bounce around from D3 - D4 (D1 being the largest and D7 being the small schools). So competition could be questioned. 3. Type of offense. Alter is an option offense. Sometimes option RBs don't get the same looks from bigger schools. I found it unusual that the Alter QB is a Missouri commit.
  2. A funny article from deadspin from last year where the Giants ran a fade 3 plays in a row. Langsdorf must have brought some of this with him from McAdoo and the Giants. http://deadspin.com/f#*k-the-fade-route-1660807016
  3. Stupid is as stupid does! Watch the play again, there were three guys open for the first down, it was all TA and his dumb decision making that caused him to throw the fade route. The fade is always covered. It's a matchup route where you put the ball up and have your guy beat out the other guy for the catch. It is also a quick play. QB gets the snap, takes a step drop and lobs it up. It's usually seen ran on downs 1-3 and I can't remember if I've ever seen it on 4th and 1 with the game on the line. The QB can't look to the fade, check down, then go back to the fade. Which would explain why the other receivers weren't even looked at. If there is a fade route called and it's the initial read, and it's single (press) coverage...a fade is getting thrown. The questions that should be asked are: 1. Why are we not kicking a short FG to cut it to a one possession game with the amount of time left? 2. If we are going for it why are we putting it in the air when he has struggled all day with accuracy. (hell, he might have overshot Carter for all we know). 3. If we ARE going to put it in the air why would any of the receivers be running a fade route. And why would you run a fade route if that is the first read expecting him to check down? Supposedly he couldn't do it against illinois when he threw the ball on a run/throw option. Tommy was bad but as bad as he was we were still in a position to cut it to a one possession game towards the end. The coaches and that ridiculous fade call all but assured that wouldn't be a problem. It's not even a bad call. It's a completely unacceptable call. One of the dumbest calls I've seen this season....a season littered with them. You don't know that they called the fade route? That's just the one Tommy chose to throw, he had better options. I do. Because that is exactly what was thrown. And if it wasn't a fade route, why was he running a fade route? Like I said earlier, that is the primary read because you can't go back to it after scanning the field. If he was supposed to throw elsewhere, the fade route is a completely useless route for the WR to be running at all.

  5. Honestly, I think we'll be in every game. And honestly, that's not a good thing. We're a pro-style team with coaches that have a pro-style mentality. It's like watching 90% of NFL games. Boring offense and the games are grinded out until the final drive.
  6. I appreciate the positive vibe but I'd be lying if I felt as good about things. I just have a bad feeling about everything and want to be wrong. Tressel was a proven winner at Youngstown State before OSU hired him. They were 135–57–2 under him and 103–27–2 in the 90's. With like 3 or 4 national championships. You usually hear things like "yeah but that was FCS, he can't coach D1". I believe that if you can win consistently in one place you can win anywhere. You either know how to coach football and fundamentals or you don't. As much as I think MR is a good person and has had a couple of good years, he hasn't really shown he can win consistently anywhere he has been. He was 40-32 in the CFL (2 losing seasons - 2 winning seasons) 14-34 in the NFL (no winning seasons) 93-80 at OSU - 58-63 in conference play (8 winning seasons - 6 losing seasons) Again, I hope you're right and it all works out. I just have a sinking feeling we're going to reel off multiple 7-6 seasons with an occasional upset of a top 10 team over the next few years.
  7. This is why I hate 'pro-style' offenses. They don't work unless you're in the NFL and want to grind out a 17-14 win. There is a reason the best teams in college football don't run pro-style offenses. Because it sucks.
  8. There's always a lot of talk about 'backing up the cash truck' to big name coaches door. There are only a few coaches worth backing the cash truck up to and none of them are coming here. Saban, Meyer, etc. Even coaches on the verge of playing for a national title aren't coming here. Patterson and Briles come to mind. They can pick Texas clean of recruits but that changes if they leave the B12. They know that. Others just want a coach with experience. My opinion has always been why would you want an experienced coach that has proven for decades that they are only experienced in not getting it done? Sometimes you have to take a shot on someone. I know a lot of you think someone else should take a shot and then we'll hire them once proven, but at this point it's easier said than done.
  9. Then why was Ozigbo looking for the ball and not blocking? We did not ask him to complete a pass... that was a run play all the way... TA should have ate the ball... Nothing in the reaction of coaches and players and the way the play was setup said... 'pass' that was a QB run all the freaking way... not sure what the f#*k Tommy was thinking.Ozigbo f'd up... he was a lead blocker and when Tommy saw he didn't block anyone... he improvised. Not a great call in the first place but that one is all on TA and Ozigbo for horrible execution.... Riley confirmed as much in the post game. I am sure TA will confirm it also... That was not a pass play... the blocking and action had no indication of pass. it was a QB run all the way. Still Riley.... RUN JANO!!!!! What else would TA say? He's not going to just go against what MR said and call them liars. I saw a play where the "lead blocker" was running a route. Bootlegs are always run/pass options, but it's unclear if any certain way was stressed. Bottom line is if they run the ball up the middle it runs the clock to :20 seconds on 4th down. Then you have the option to either kick a 40+ yd FG or better yet short punt it where even if it goes into the endzone it's going to kill most of the clock. Worst case scenario after that is Illinois ball at their own 20 with less than :10 left.
  10. Lets face it. Bo is a loose cannon on the sidelines. He abhors the media and being interviewed. Hates it even more if someone questions him. This has rubbed off on most of the staff, and now the players. He has built a team with an us against the world mentality (including fans), and has acted like a maniac on more occasions than I can even remember now. Bo doesn't want to be here, and to be honest, I don't think he even wants to be a head coach with all of the attention that comes with it. The criticism isn't exclusive to Lincoln...he's going to have that at ANY major college football school.
  11. Do the people that want Al Golden realize he is 46-45 as a coach. If it wasn't for a good start this year he has a losing record. Tressell is 61 and has left two former schools with NCAA troubles. Richt is no better than Pelini. Multiple losses almost every year and gets blown out on occasion. I'd rather have a young coach who plans on staying a long time. Any of these guys get hired and we'll be creating this topic again in a few years.
  12. In the case of Richt...it's going to be a lot easier to recruit kids from the south who want to play in the SEC near their family and against other kids from the south. It doesn't necessarily mean his recruiting ties are going to start filling the roster up with SEC caliber recruits from the south in Lincoln. I remember everyone thought Pelini would use his ties from his days at LSU and it hasn't quite worked out like that.
  13. Love this. Again, I ask why? Richt, Petrino, Petersen, insert any other head coach with a ton of experience that can't get it done. Nebraska fans want championships. I don't think any of these guys can get them here either. And the coaches who are getting them aren't coming to Nebraska. I'm sorry, but I'd rather take a chance on a promising young coach in charge of one of the best offenses in college football over a coach with experience who I know can't get it done.
  14. Some of the names mentioned aren't going to come to Lincoln. Frost is going to be the best we can get, and to be honest, I like the choice. Young Wants to be here Has played and coached with some of the best ever Would run an exciting offense and probably be able to out-recruit the current staff Our choice is going to come down to someone who has head coaching experience but could never get it done, or someone like Frost.
  15. I like it. Being from Ohio myself, I know that Canton McKinley has great tradition and they play great football. McKinley is also in D1 in NE Ohio so he faced good competition.
  16. I just had my friend back out on going to the game. Anyone want my section 410 (2 tickets together) seats for face value ($80 each + $15 fee)? I'll even throw in 2 passes to the Husker Huddle pep rally across the street with Tom Osborne, Frazier, Kris Brown, etc. Also, here is that image you're talking about. View from section 410
  17. Meyer has already hired/retained Fickell as Defensive Coordinator. They would be looking at Stoops as a position assistant. I'm guessing either Bo handles the defense or hires Stoops....and I don't see Stoops taking a position assistant job at OSU over a DC job at Nebraska. All the news reports out there are saying that Stoops is being considered at tOSU as co-DC. So he'd share duties with Fickell. If you were Stoops would you accept a 'co-DC position' at tOSU when you could have the whole job yourself at Nebraska? It will be interesting if Stoops does come here. Can you see Mike and Bo yelling their heads off at each other on the side lines! After looking at various articles, I don't know what to believe. It seems Fickell's position is a mystery. I've seen DC, asst. head coach, co-DC or some other title. It might come down to what Stoops does. If he agrees to OSU, they might make him SOLE DC and have Fickell as asst. head coach. If he doesn't get a DC title, I think he comes to Lincoln.

  19. It'll be whatever you had last year. If you have 120+ or better, you'll get a single BTN channel, which means you'll get the feature game only. Pay $7/month extra for the sports package and you'll get all the games they broadcast, which is just about every Big 10 game not on ESPN/ABC, or NBC at Notre Dame. Or in our case, Versus for the Wyoming game. Also with that sports package you get NFL RedZone (very cool) and all of the Fox Sports and Comcast regional networks, which basically means seeing a Big 12 game on Fox Midwest/Southwest and a late night Pac 12 game on Fox West or whatever it's called. That's the way I understand it anyway. Get the sports package. You'll spend less for that for the entire fall and see just about every Husker game than you did for a single PPV game last year. Here's a tip for anyone thinking of getting Dish Network, or already have it but don't have the 120+ or sports package: 1. Go to Dish Network's site. 2. Start a live chat with customer service. 3. Ask them if they have anything that compares to the free NFL Ticket that DTV is offering, and that you are considering leaving/or signing up with them. 4. They will send you to the customer loyalty dept. and will offer you a few things. - If you are in a package below the 120+, they will give you the 120+ package + the sports package (ton of extra sports channels and all BTN and BTN alternates) + NFL redzone for only $5 more a month through January. - If you are already in the 120+ package, they will give you the sports package, BTN (and alternates) + NFL Redzone for free all the way through January. http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3250429
  20. Can you imagine how bad Dr Tom would have been BLASTED if we had the internet back when he was coaching? All those games where the Huskers would beat up Big 8 teams only to go down to the Orange Bowl and lose to Miami every year? There would have been 2000 topics started daily about how Tom can't win the big one, his offense is predictable, and how his defenses can't stop the passing teams. Oh believe me it would have been UGLY! Especially the time when he entertained and almost left for Colorado. Absoulutely.... The local tv stations and papers made it rough enough, but it would have piled on in a bad way for TO in the late 70's and some parts of the 80's....Wow, I truly think that MEDIA outlets, technology, and the rate that "stuff" gets out would make coaching at a big-time college/NFL extremely tough. Everyone knows that Bo HATES all of this stuff with a passion. If a person doesn't like the "attention" then Nebraska, of all places, is the WRONG place for you. I hope Bo stays for a very long time. I love his fire, desire, and passion for the game, along with his X-O's....but I honestly do not think that he acts like he is very happy with this gig. He always (90% of the time) comes across as someone who is frustrated, upset, defensive, or just plain unhappy..... I don't think he will be here for a whole lot longer. I agree. Being from Ohio, my gut feeling tells me he will end up at OSU. 'Unwritten' rule about not hiring coaches within the conference or not. The OSU fans I know here are already talking about wanting him as coach whenever JT steps down. Then I began wondering. As frustrated and unhappy as he seems at times, I really wonder if College football is his game at all? NCAA and NFL are two totally different monsters. In college football he has to worry about recruiting, players doing ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING wrong, academics, and so on. In the NFL you just coach. You might have some input on which players you would like to draft/trade. In the end it's basically, the front office pays you, you play, I coach. If you screw up the NFL will fine you, possibly suspend you, but it won't put the organization on probation. He could be a prick to the media without backlash, hell, tons of NFL coaches are.
  21. I disagree. 2 reasons... 1. Georgia Tech #1 in rushing yards per game at 327. 2. Air Force #2 in rushing yards at 306 They might have fast linemen, but they're far from 'elite'. Option football is assignment football at its finest. When ran well it is one of the hardest offenses to defend. The option is today what the spread offense was a long time ago. Only a few teams ran the spread back in the day and it was hard for teams to defend it. Largely because they couldn't prepare for it in practice with their personnel. Same thing with the option today. Everyone seems to run some version of the spread and they can get a good look at it with the scout team in practice. What happens when you go up against an option team and you try to get some quality reps from the scout team running the option? You don't get many quality reps. Rushing yards don't tell the whole story, here is the whole story... Georgia Tech: 6-7 Air Force: 9-4 Played each other in the Independence Bowl, Air Force won 14-7. You don't need elite lineman to make it to or win the Independence Bowl. You need them to win National Championships. Isn't that what we are chasing here? btw, I agree with your assessment on the option. We don't have the pieces to run that offense right now, is what I'm saying. 6-7 and 9-4 with horrible defenses. Air Force ran for 351 yards against Oklahoma. 458 yards total. Can you imagine if we could have had that kind of output in addition to our defense? It would make our defense even better as well. We eat up more clock and opposing offenses have even less yards/points because they are never on the field.

  23. I have to say, I will be there and so will hundreds (thousands?) of my southern California Big Red friends. Here's a challenge to Husker nation: enjoy San Diego, enjoy New Year's, enjoy the looks of a bright and prosperous future... And let's sell the mother f'er out! 80% Nebraska fans filling the stadium. Chants of Go Big Red so loud it will seem like a game in Lincoln. Let's do it. GBR. No doubt the Big 12 assumed Nebraska's fanbase that travels so well would look poor for this game too. Lets sell this place out.
  24. The problem is any coordinator who is relevant and established at a major school takes the next step - as a head coach somewhere. I don't care how much tradition we have or how much press we get. Finding a good offensive coordinator (if it comes to that) will probably have to come from a smaller school, taking a gamble on a coordinator from a bigger school who has struggled, or a very good offensive position coach that you decide to promote.
