  1. The fact people don't remember the play very well reiterates the fact that the game didn't matter and wasn't even close to making up for the other call.
  2. I don't understand how the misdeeds and the errors of others should excuse Hillary's behavior. I haven't really been one to raise much of a stink about any of them but two wrongs don't make a right. I thought you didn't like Hillary? One of the main reason I have been avoiding these political threads lately is, I dont think any of the candidates are worthy of being defended. I dont want anyone to think I support any of them because IMO that would be somewhat embarrassing and also extremely hard to get very enthusiastic about. I'm confused why anybody who regularly claims the same thing, that all the candidates are poor, so often is seen defending one of them. Is it just the least bad of the bad thing that makes her worthy of sticking up for? Or, do you think she's not really all that bad? Or, is it just the thrill of pointing out cases of perceived hypocrisy? I don't mean to be getting on you specifically. I'm just dumbfounded by all the apparent support any of these wastes of air are garnering. Maybe I've just gotten too cynical. You wouldn't be hearing about this if Hilary weren't running for office. You wouldn't care. It wouldn't be treated as "big news," because it wouldn't be. It'd be treated the same as when Colin Powell did it and Condoleeza Rice did it. With a "meh" and barely a mention in the news. What you should be dumbfounded with is how shrill the attacks on Hillary are over something that at least two other Secretaries of State have done. What you should be dumbfounded about is how, 12 years after John Kerry was "swiftboated" in a crazy, stupid smear campaign, Americans are falling for the same kind of smear tactics again. I guess it doesn't surprise me that a candidate for President is being highly, and maybe unfairly, scrutinized by supporters of the opponent. Also it doesn't surprise me that people will tend to ignore the flaws of the person they support and raise a bigger stink about the opponent. That's just human nature. I guess I'll just have to remain most dumbfounded by the fact that any of them have any supporters who think they're worth defending. I'm having trouble coming to terms with these being our choices. I don't want any of them to get a pass on anything even if the attack may be considered unfair. Made up and over played controversy has been a backbone of our political system forever. But totally worthless candidates for POTUS? I won't accept that. I don't agree with you about Obama but I agree with the above. I really don't want to vote for Clinton :/
  3. Things have taken a turn for the better now that I have associates in the game. I went on a raid with said-chivalrous man today. (The rest of the clan is in Britain and was asleep for it). We raided this clan that killed me 3+ times when I was on my own and helpless without even a gun. After we gathered all the booty into a bunch of their unlocked boxes I suddenly noticed a naked man crouching and slowly approaching me. Scariest thing I've ever seen in a video game. All of the characters are bald. So completely naked bald dude trying to be sneaky, 3 feet from me, seeing me in HIS base stealing HIS stuff. Ugh. I'm going to have a nightmare tonight. Anyhow, I unloaded on him and killed him. We got the hell out of there with all of their guns and rocket launchers and rockets that we could find and heard gun fire behind us but made it back to our base safely. I hope I'm not dead when I login tomorrow.
  4. Must you keep doing this? In every thread in this forum?
  5. One of the worst calls in the history of college football. Maybe THE worst. I still wonder whether that ref was crooked. I mean, how could he *possibly* make an honest mistake like that? There's just no way. He was right on top of the play with a perfect view. And the other ref should have been able to see the OB catch. Total bullsh#t. The refs literally gift wrapped the game for Joe Paterno. I bought my custom t-shirt in late '80s ...... Beaver field layout. L shaped instead of normal 53x120yds rectangle field !!!!! Worn out years ago (destination: paint rag). Not exactly but similar idea ......... "Karma" was 2012 PSU/NU game. THE LINK The funny thing about that shirt is that it's actually incorrect. Drawing the line that way means the ball carrier would have to travel further to cross the goal line. On top of that the TD call was WAY closer and happened in a meaningless game.
  6. Yup. It's been shown in several studies that advertising can affect people even when they don't realize it and think they're immune. So it's not a stretch that political stuff does the same thing.
  7. We have satellites, and a crapton of other technology. Seems to me if we can't get the info we need through other means and have to use antiquated methods then we're a bunch of idiots.
  8. There needs to be a constitutional mechanism whereby the public can vote for "none of the above" on every election, and if that gets the most votes, we have to start the process over.Combine that with shortening the campaign season to no more than two months and we should have a better political process.Love the "none of the above" option. Never heard that proposed before. It is brilliant. Coupled with a 2 month election cycle......we should now be on about the 45th attempt for 2008.Don't think so. Neither Obama nor McCain were widely disliked at the time.
  9. There needs to be a constitutional mechanism whereby the public can vote for "none of the above" on every election, and if that gets the most votes, we have to start the process over. Combine that with shortening the campaign season to no more than two months and we should have a better political process. A bit tangential, but folks I've talked to lately have advocated doing away with the First Past the Post system as a way of helping third party candidates become viable alternatives to a two party duopoly. The current timeframe of the election system is stupid. I'd do all the primary voting on one day just like the general election. I think they stretch it all out for the fanfare and pageantry of it all at this point. I absolutely agree with this. Set a deadline for when they have to declare, then let them campaign and debate for a couple months, then vote on one day. That would take much of the politics out of the situation as well. Are there examples of the "real issues" that Trump is talking about, that no one else wants to talk about? I'm trying to think of what these issues are and I can't come up with a single one, much less one that needs over-dramatization just to be heard. I believe I've spelled out an entire list earlier in this thread somewhere, or over in the Republican thread, so I'll save my time by re-posting it. You're a smart guy, so I think you can figure it out. Here's just one example, but this is a very well written, unbiased article to answer your question: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kironskinner/2016/05/24/the-beginnings-of-a-trump-doctrine/#54a2211a2fc6 It's hard to take anyone seriously when they say things like the bolded and then provide a link to Forbes magazine. a) It's published by Forbes. b) The author "has been an adviser to multiple Republican Presidential campaigns and served as an advisor on a number of governmental national security panels." At the very least say the source/author/article are unbiased for a staunchly Republican publication/author/article.
  10. What's that? Not being biased at all based on gender? Morian said it should not matter at all and I am trying to copy that. So Hillary and trump are both "it". Try it, try getting rid of labels. I think you will feel free. Form now on, please call me, it. I don't want to see color, or height, or gender, or intelligence, I just want to see people. Don't you think that's the right way? I just want everybody to be looked at the same Exactly the same Don't you think that's correct? No more difference!!! I didn't say gender doesn't matter at all. I said it doesn't matter for the office of president. You've been going on and on (and on) with this Hillary Clinton is a man crap, since before I ever said anything about gender. It's weird as hell and goes beyond not liking her. You seem to be implying she's a man because she's average-looking and not a beauty queen, and in that case you're doing the same thing to all women. Now you're going to reply that you wouldn't ever dare say anything mean to a woman because you love and respect them all. On the 2nd amendment topic, no, Clinton does not want to repeal it. Nor does/did Obama, nor do the vast majority of Democrats/Independents. This is crazy uber-conservative propaganda.
  11. So, people are upset about the election for the most important position in the country and your conclusion is that they get upset at the drop of the hat over anything? That isn't a logical conclusion. There are things worthy of getting involved in and upset about. The direction our country is headed and who its leader might be are valid things to be invested in. You've said a bunch of people in a thread were going to leave the country if Trump gets elected and when asked who, you said you would move out of the country.
  12. Well who else in northern Maine would be the most popular? No FBS team let alone power conference team is anywhere nearby. Although granted UCLA and northern Maine are as far away as any 2 locations in the continental U.S. are. I'd expect Maine people to be Penn State fans.
  13. Awesome reply here: "He doesnt tell me hes going to do any of that. Its true but its not something I would put on Twitter. I havent been there yet. Hes been there. Hes an 11-year vet, won a Super Bowl, No. 1 draft pick. He can say it."
  14. This type of talk is not poor sportsmanship and is pretty normal throughout CFB. Not normally from a father of a player but hopefully Sr.'s swagger got passed down to son as well as athletic abilities. We need a little more testosterone running throughout the team. Just need to apply it while on the field, but hey, its a start! Matter of opinion on the level of sportsmanship - I like the testosterone, just prefer it in the locker room and on the field. I'd prefer we get it done and let that speak for itself. Just like dancing in the end zone - I think it's more impactful to politely hand the ref the ball and get back to the sideline. Do your business. Don't talk about it, and certainly don't talk about it on twitter months before a game. Look at the 92' Huskers vs. the Miami Hurricanes of the 80s'. I'd rather be the former and be respected for our talent than hated for our mouths. Those 90s teams talked crap...I mean, in the NC Tommie Frazier straight up called Warren Sapp "fat ass" after Sapp talked crap to him That isn't what we're talking about.
  15. dudeguyy - pretty sure I already told you that while I like Sanders and don't like Clinton, I'll vote for her if she wins the nomination. I will be pissed if Sanders runs as an independent. Unless of course he can pull off a miracle and actually win, which seems unlikely. That being said if he can somehow get rid of superdelegates immediately and win the nomination I'm fine with it and don't mind him trying. I don't really think he's damaging Clinton. And as I've mentioned before it's only been his party for one year. On the flip side... superdelegates don't seem like such a bad idea. If the Republicans had them they might not have had Trump as their nominee.
  16. I don't watch women's sports unless there's something different about them that make them more interesting, or better, or at least on par with men's. Those are few and far between. Women do different events in gymnastics, so that's one example.
  17. Likewise? The problem is, your anecdotal evidence doesn't matter because you can look at those images all day, just somewhere else. The anecdotal evidence that matters here is the 1 person who gets in trouble or worse for accidentally having an inappropriate photo wind up on their monitor while the wrong person is walking by. I sometimes use my work computer while on lunch break. Never for Huskerboard because we have security requirements that prevent it, but I'm sure lots of people have jobs here that don't mind it being used for that during a break. you say my "anecdotal" evidence of working for multiple companies that have rules prohibiting the use of social media and forums like Huskerboard doesn't matter...by stating your company also has security requirements preventing it... -- where you going with this one? and I agree, lots of people probably do have jobs where they don't mind if their employees sit on forums all day. they're called government/state employees (and whoever employs cm husker - probably city gov.). I'm not sure what you're missing from my post. Where I am going is that if there is a single person on this forum who could be negatively affected by a surprise half-naked photo or whatever you want to call it, then they shouldn't be allowed anywhere but designated areas. That one person is all that matters. Everyone else can survive by not having them on here.

  19. Ok, I'll put it this way. Lots of graduate students from outside of Nebraska join the UNL Statistics department because they have a focus/specialization in sports statistics. It was a very good place to hire from for this job. On top of that, due to the fact they attract people with this interest means he'll have lots of potential GAs and future employees to pick from. His advisor retired last year. Even if that were not the case, statistics is a rapidly changing field and hiring a new grad isn't necessarily worse than hiring someone with decades of non-sports statistics experience. It depends largely on how up to date the person stays. Sports analytics is a pretty new field. Most potential candidates are going to be young. You're doing a better job of selling the quality of the program as opposed to the qualifications of the individual, which in reality you don't even have to try as Sargon already illuminated the hiring standards for this field. Let's just welcome the guy, and move on.They're pretty similar things. If the program is high quality, the people who got their degrees from it are probably high quality, so it's a good place to hire from. That's what I was trying to say. I'm not sure why you're asking me to move on or telling me Sargon's post was illuminating about the field. All he said was this wasn't an academic position. I was trying to inform about something I know a lot about. I didn't realize this was a tense conversation but I guess internet words can be read in a different tone than they're intended. Anyhow, this is something I'm passionate/knowledgeable about so I wanted to talk about it. I don't want people to get the wrong idea that they're not hiring the best just because he's from Nebraska and recently graduated, because that's not the case.
  20. Welp, someone keeps opening my window shutters but I've now gone 72 hours without my base being looted or destroyed, which is a record for me. I'm sure it was the girly sign that stopped them. AND some chivalrous man has invited me to join his clan. Sometimes it pays having a girl voice.
  21. The possibilities are practically endless. Injuries can be predicted with a high success rate. Weight lifting regimens can be optimized. + over 9000 more thingies.

  23. Sarah Palin made the shortlist of potential VP candidates for Trump. Others: Ted Cruz, Carson himself, Marco Rubio, John Kasich and Chris Christie. I can see Christie or Kasich saying yes. Not Cruz or Rubio.
  24. Like Sargon said, you're thinking of the academic world. The Sports Analytics department is a sub-department of the athletic department. A friend of mine has a similar position with a pretty big company and she only has her Master's. Statistics is new for quite a few companies and Tucker made sense because he'd done his dissertation with Nebraska sports data (weightlifting if I'm remembering correctly).
