  1. Vegas odds have sh#t all to do with whether the results of game were a blow out or not.
  2. I think that UCLA will have no problem piling up points against NU's D. I think Rosen picks Banker's D apart. The only way NU keeps it close is if the offense keeps scoring with them, like NU did against Michigan State. There's no basis for thinking we'll get blown out. Thinking we'll lose, yes. Right. No basis whatsoever to think the Huskers will get blown out. Just like back in August when there was no basis whatsoever to think the Huskers would have a losing season. How do you figure? We hadn't played a game yet with the new staff. We haven't been blown out this year. We could get blown out by UCLA but nothing that has happened this season indicates that will happen. The Miami game was a blowout for 3 quarters, and then they went brain dead, and let NU back in it. Purdue was also a blowout, until NU put up some late points in the 4th quarter. It's a fallacy to say that NU wasn't blown out in any games this year. Until is a pretty important word, eh? The Miami game went to OT. Anyone who says that game was a blow out is a moiraine. And the Purdue game?!?!?! The Purdue game wasn't a blow out either. The fact that they're a terrible team doesn't make it more of a blow out. That's not to say the loss wasn't awful. And no, I didn't say it was a blow out. Thanks.

  5. Janovich wasn't underutilized until the Iowa game. When you run FB too often their plays don't work as well. He should have gotten at least 2 carries against Iowa though.
  6. I don't want a big playoff. This is my favorite sport, and part of the reason is because every game matters. If we move it to an 8 team playoff then even 2 loss teams can make it in. The max for me is 6 teams. We could still get 2 loss teams but there won't be more than a couple each year and it won't happen as often.
  7. I changed it to be more in the spirit of what I was trying to say - I think this will match what you mentioned ty
  8. The green Sparty jacket would look okay if it didn't have those goofy Sparty dangle thingies on it. As it is, it looks like some sort of medieval leprechaun costume. I think that's the best part about it. I love it. 2nd place is Clemson's. These aren't for wearing to normal places so it's okay to be weird.
  9. I paid quite a bit more than minimum wage. Doesn't matter. I'm saying do that, then make eligibility more strict. That'd force more people to work those jobs. Less would have the choice to not take the job because they wouldn't be eligible for welfare, and less would consider going on welfare in the first place. I'll give you credit, you have much more confidence in certain people than I do. I am interested in what type of stricter requirements you are talking about. It's never going to happen because a law to keep minimum wage up with inflation will never pass. I don't know what the current requirements are for all the welfare types so I don't know. I know for food stamps at the time I was on them you had to make less than $13,000 per year if you were the only member of your household. With that one example they could lower it to $12,000, or whatever. But the work requirement could stay at 20 hours. (That's what it is in Nebraska). If the minimum wage were $10 that would be $10,400 a year. So basically only people working < 25 hours at minimum wage would be eligible.

  11. Maybe what should happen is the minimum wage should continue to rise with inflation and if something like that passes, reduce social welfare spending (other than that for the elderly and maybe children). That's something that makes sense to me. Corporations are making more $ than ever in comparison to their employees so they should be able to keep up with inflation at the bare minimum. Do this and increase the requirements for welfare eligibility, since min. wage workers would be making more money.
  12. Where do you get such a number? That's 14 years. Terrorism all over the world. Likely thousands of attacks by refugees and immigrants all over. Why would you say $? Are you talking those convicted of carrying out attacks in the USA? We know they are terror attacks all over. Paris attacks were refugees for example. The two who were killed in San Bernadino CA one week ago were 'refugee/immigrant' and child of immigrant! I am sorry but the Unites States poplution is 'estimated' as we don't really even know due to illegal immigration at alarming rates over the past 7 years! Estimated at around 330 MILLION! That is about 90 million more than have jobs in this economy! We need 20 million good, upper middle income jobs immediately and another 2 million yearly. One reason we have so much illegal immigration is because the bottom feeders in our economy would rather live on the social welfare handouts than take entry level jobs. Do you have statistics to back that up or is it just a gut feeling based on stories you've heard about individuals? I have a feeling (but no stats) that illegal immigrants are taking jobs that pay less than minimum wage. Some anecdotal evidence: I was on food stamps for a year while getting my undergrad degree in Math and Education and working 25 hours per week cashiering and tutoring. I wanted to work, and I worked, and still needed help so I took it. I wasn't a "bottom feeder" who wanted to live off of handouts. I find it highly unlikely that more than a handful of people on social programs actually want to be reliant on them, but again, I don't have statistics. Either way, there's no reason we should cut social welfare "handouts" as you call them and spend as much $ as we do on corporate subsidies. Almost every state, maybe every state, requires that you work or volunteer if you want to receive food stamps. I don't know the details on other types of welfare. Sorry, no stats other than personal experience over the years working with various people. It sounds like your situation is the exception more than the rule. I mean, what percentage of people receiving food stamps are college students? I'm guessing it's a fairly small percentage. And I think people abusing the system area exception. I think the people who abuse the system are just more memorable because they're doing something horrible. Fair enough. But why is it that there are so many minimum wage jobs available for the taking, and yet a lot of folks would rather get a free handout than work for a small wage? I can understand if someone is going to college and working part time. But what about the vast majority of people who aren't seeking to improve their skill set? I think I was more compassionate years ago when I was just reading about these situations, before I had actually met some of these people and tried to work with them. Over the years I've gradually become convinced that, in many cases, free handouts aren't the way to go. It incentivizes the wrong behavior. But I guess that's just my opinion. Those are the statistics I'm saying you don't have. This "lot of folks" and "vast majority." Unfortunately there is a sweet spot for some of these things where it's better to stay on assistance. For instance if you work too many hours and make $500 too much then you're ineligible for the benefit which might have been more than $500. I don't really know how non disability welfare works but I was under the impression they had to prove they were applying for x # of jobs.

  15. All backups are better than the starters until proven otherwise (and sometimes even then backups > starters) This. They're basing it on the fact that he's a back up and had a lot of stars coming out of high school.
  16. It's a fact that MSU, over the course of a season, didn't perform like a great team. Their passing defense numbers are pretty average. Their rushing offense numbers are below average. Total offense is another below average category for them. I suppose my wording could be better. I tried to explain this but was probably too verbose and that obscured the overall message. I used the standard deviation as the cutoff because that means you're in the top third of the bell curve. When that's where you are for the average rating of all nine categories I considered, I thought it was fair to call those team performances great. Getting back to the B1G champ, MSU's average overall z-score was 0.536 compared to the standard deviation of 0.579. We're talking about hundredths as the difference but Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, and Wisconsin managed to exceed that for their respective averages over the course of the season (considering only their games against other FBS teams). p.s. - Vandy is at a -0.358 so they were close. South Carolina's value was -0.347. For our bad teams, Purdue and Rutgers have the same -0.697 while Maryland's was -0.607. Maybe you should have record as one of your categories. "Ability to win" is an important quality. It says something about the mentality of the players/coaches you have.
  17. One is for the football season, the other is for the Nebraska football season
  18. This isn't just aimed at you but based on things I read all over here on FB, people keep talking like they aren't screened at all. I have no idea where that idea comes from. How is the current process not effective when this was the biggest terrorist attack in the US in the past 14 years? There will ALWAYS be crazy people who manage to kill people. Most of the time it isn't done by immigrants.
  19. BYU hail mary, Interception in OT vs Miami, 4 ints against Iowa, Brandon Reilly TD against MSU, Janovich long TD against Wisconsin, Demornay's 2 injuries. There. That's 10.
  20. This was the wildest play I saw this season. They'll be showing replays of that for years to come. Sparty lived under a lucky star this year. Well, except when they came to Lincoln. That is so true too. Man I just rewatched this play probably 4 or 5 times. I'm come away just smiling in disbelief, like WTH just happened?! Yeah, I could watch that replay a dozen more times! The crowd shots and Harbaugh's expression are classic! I think shared this story already, but what the heck. My girlfriend (MSU fan) had given up on the game and was rage-cleaning the kitchen ( ) As soon as the punter dropped the snap, I yelled "oh sh*t!" and she came running just in time to see the touchdown. Between that game and B1G Championship, she's asked me multiple times how I can deal with the weekly emotional roller coaster that is college football since she likes basketball a lot more. I never have a response. I guess I'm used to it by now Seriously? I rarely watch basically but it drives me crazy. Any game I sort of care about that's close in the last 4 minutes has me on edge.
  21. Why do you have status quo as allowing all who want to enter the US enter? That's not the status quo and I don't think it ever has been. I would vote for the actual status quo but that option is not available.
  22. You have it way wrong!!! It's HIP HIP HOORAY!!! Quit that sh#t.
