  1. My son loved it every part of it and so did I. Here's the link to the photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/husker_youth_experience/
  2. I've taken my sons to the Husker Youth Experience every time they have had it. Bo runs a practice a whole lot different than the previous regime. Bo's is alot more like I would assume practice should be. Each team getting reps, lots of hands on teach and lots of enthusiasm from both coaches and players. Today, the players were in pads and they had a controlled scrimmage. Not a whole lot of tackling, but enough hitting to make it interesting. There was a little skirmish between Lydon Murtha and Barry Turner. The players and coaches quickly separated both, and each took off on laps around Tom Osborne field. Here are the players that stood out. Receivers Curenski Gilleylen Man, is this kid fast and made some really nice catches out on his finger tips Niles Paul made probably the catch of the day on a sideline route and pass from Ganz. Menelik Holt caught everything thrown his way. Chris Brooks dropped a sure td pass, but otherwise, shows promise. OL Lydon Murtha is lean. Not an ounce of fat on that guy. Matt Slauson, he may have lost some weight between January and the start of spring practice, but he's got a ways to go. Jaivorio Burkes is really solid at tackle. This kids got tons of ability. Linebackers Latravis Washington was going with the first unit at outside linebacker. He made a couple of stops, but the thing that sticks out is he got an earful from Bo during the scrimmage. Phillip Dillard looks alot more comfortable after dropping the weight, he'll be solid. Blake Lawrence really needs to add some size. He doesn't look very big at all, if he's 225 pounds, I'll be very surprised. RB''s All the running backs looked pretty good at times. Cody Glenn and Quintin Castille really stood out. Marlon Lucky didn't scrimmage, he was riding an exercise bike on the sidelines for a while, is he hurt? Marcus Mendoza was back catching punts and didn't look comfortable at all catching the ball. Don't expect to see him back there. The guy who stood out the most was LB coach Mike Ekeler, that guy ran around more than any player. He was jumping up and down when one of his LB's filled the hole and made a play and he's running towards the players even before the play is over to either praise the players or instruct them on how to do things better. He's just a load of energy and someone I'd really like to play for (if I wasn't too old and out of shape). I took a ton of pictures and I'll post a link to them later. (right now, I can't find the cord to connect the digital camera to my computer. )
  3. Today's the day I get to take my 8 year old to Husker Youth Experience. This is the day that 500 youngsters get to go through some football drills with the players and coaches and I GET TO WATCH SPRING PRACTICE. I'm bringing my camera and I'll file a report when I return. Anyone else going?
  4. would make more sense being this big of a midweek series, but normally the only midweek night games are nu v creighton games I think Mother Nature has something to do with it also. Most early season mid-week games are during the day. Once the season gets more into April, then we'll see the night games.
  5. Isn't he Sara Paven's boyfriend?? Heckuva leap there young man. If those two decide to get married and have kids, I'm sure there will be a scholarship waiting their offspring, whatever sport they are into.
  6. Coz and the Minnesota head coach worked together on the Illinois staff together back in the 80's. That's how Cosgrove can and will continue to get work in college football. It's not what you know, (in Cosgrove's case, not much, except out to tear down a powerhouse program in 4 years) it's who you know.
  7. In watching the defense play during the 2002 season, who honestly saw NFL potential in any of those guys? I'll give you Fabian, Bullocks and Ruud maybe, but we just came off a stellar 7-7 season with a loss in the Independence Bowl. There obviously was talent on the roster with the guys who played in the NFL, but who says the guys on this years team don't have the same potential. Bo came in and made Demorrio Williams an NFL stud, who was splitting time in 2002. Besides, I'm thinking we have tons of talent on the roster right now that the previous staff either simply didn't tap or didn't utilize correctly. That won't be the case with this staff. Kickoff on August 30 cannot get here quick enough.
  8. Don't know if this was posted, but what the hey! Huskers are 100-1 to win the BCS Championship according to Sportsbook.com. other Big 12 teams are; Missouri 20 - 1 Kansas 60 - 1 Oklahoma 8 - 1 Oklahoma St 75 - 1 Texas 30 - 1 Texas A&M 100 - 1 Texas Tech 75 - 1 Some interesting teams/odds USC 5 - 2 and Florida at 6 - 1 are favorites Notre Dame 75 - 1 Considering the Irish had a more disappointing season and play a tougher scheduled than the Huskers, I find it strange that Nebraska is a longer favorite. the rest of the field is 25 - 1.
  9. Lane Grindel was talking about Suh on Sports Nightly sometime this week. He stated, and I wholeheartedly agree that Suh might just be a barometer for this coaching staff. Suh has all the physical tools to be an exceptional defensive lineman, size, speed, strength, you name it. Now, he needs someone to light a fire under him and get him playing like we know he can play. The defensive philosophy will change from read and react to attack will showcase his ability also. I'm looking forward to watch Suh and the rest of Bo's defense. Ain't nobody gonna put 60 on Bo's defense.
  10. From what I'm hearing this one has legs. Keep tuned in.
  11. According to Rivals, Gray doesn't have Nebraska on his list, so we'll have to make up some serious ground in a pretty big hurry, but just looking at the highlights, both are good, solid players who run well.
  12. Kansas took a hit with Aqib Talib and Anthony Collins declaring on Monday that they plan to give up their eligibility and turn pro. Jamal Charles from Texas is gone, too. Any other conference players decide to leave early?
  13. Texas hiring Muschamp is not good for anyone in the Big 12 except Texas. This guy is a great defensive football coach and Texas just made a HUGE step toward taking over the Big 12 South and I'm the second biggest anti-Texas anything person that I know. Winning the Big 12 conference just got tougher.
  14. Anyone who says that hiring of Skippy Neuheisel is an 'A' hire loses all creditability. Who cares what this guy thinks? We know what we have in Pelini.
  15. So, do you think John Leverson is solid on his commitment to Nebraska. Here's a quote from the Crete News, after reading this, I would say so. Despite a dizzying array of changes in the Husker football staff, Levorson told NU officials weeks ago he was committed no matter who the coach turned out to be. “I didn’t commit because of the coaching staff,” he said. “I committed because of the history of the program, the facilities and it’s my home state. I committed pretty much for every reason but the coaching staff.”
  16. Concerned? Not really, though I am surprised that some of the defensive players who were committed are not embracing Bo Pelini as head coach. I would think that his reputation as a defensive coach and the whole package that Nebraska has to offer would be enough to keep those players in the fold. We knew that this recruiting class would be a long shot to hold together. The fact that these kids talk to each other and tried to recruit others players to follow them was great when they were still Huskers, but now it's biting us right in the backside. Maybe Bo being truthful with the recruits turned them off, maybe they wanted to hear what the previous staff told them, that they would be guaranteed a starting spot or immediate playing time or Nebraska would be a stepping stone on to the playing on Sundays, whatever. Maybe these prima donna's don't want to hear that everyone is starting on the same level and everyone will be expected to give 110% on every drill in every practice or else they won't see the field?? This year, we'll take all the players who want to be Huskers and not just use the facilities to get to the next level. Give the staff a year to build up the relationships with this year's HS juniors, the same relationships that the previous staff had the time to build. That and a return to real Nebraska football will be enough to get a recruiting class in that we can all be proud of. GBR
  17. How cool would it be for Bo call a Husker recruit during halftime of the BSC Title game?
  18. Jeremy Crabtree was on 1620 today and said that it's kind of a "gentlemen's agreement" not to take recruits away from your old school but it does happen. He also said that Nebraska and LSU don't recruit against each other very often, as LSU recruits are from the Bayou and Nebraska hasn't done well in that part of the country for some time. I'm not holding my breath. I would like to see us hold on to the recruits we have already committed and pick up a couple more defensive tackles and a linebacker or two.
  19. Yeah, it is getting old, especially on Championship Saturday, but the first time I saw the big guy do a belly flop off the goal posts, I laughed.
  20. When Stevie P got the axe, all bets were off.
  21. Besides Callahan's spitting, the nervous tick he did with his mouth needed to be stopped, even if he had to get counseling in order to quit it. It was one of those things that you didn't notice until someone pointed it out to you that bothers the $hit out of you.
  22. All the home games and one of the away games, haven't figure out which one yet. Just like every year (except this year)
  23. If Turner is named the guy, filling out his staff will be a problem. I see Jimmy Williams, Scott Frost, Tim Albin, Barney Cotton etc. I'm not dumping on these guys, but that ain't a good staff, if you ask me, that's a perennial 6 to 8 win staff. Bo Pelini or any other of the candidates will have a much easier time filling out their staff with quality assistants.
  24. Problem with that is I'm not 100% sure that LSU wants Bo back at DC, much less as the head guy.
  25. I don't have a subscription to either Scout or Rivals, but insiders at both are betting on Pelini bering named HC sometime midweek
