  1. Maybe the staff won’t get a pure zone-read guy. Based on the high school QB’s they have recruited, I don’t know if there is one offensive requirement for QB. I think they want a QB who can run, but maybe they will move away from the “athlete first” type QB. Either way, unless Haarberg improves significantly, NU will be going back to the portal for another starting QB, or at least competition.
  2. Satterfield is trying to develop some concepts to be successful on first down passing, early in the game. It hasn’t worked, so the last 2 games he’s gone back to “let’s just pound it at them and win the game ugly”. It’s not halftime adjustments, it’s just the staff realizing that they will need to win ugly again, and worry about development second.
  3. Can’t target receivers downfield if the o-line can’t protect that long. The first play from scrimmage for NU against La Tech could have been a called deep shot, but Haarberg was sacked.
  4. And the most Frazier ran for in one season was 704 yards. Frost did have over 1000 yards rushing in 1997 when Osborne designed more QB-specific runs out of spear formations, but like you are pointing out that was over 25 years ago.
  5. Umm, that was 30 years ago, and even then we didn’t rely on the QB running the ball like we are this season. NU has already had to play 3 QB’s in 4 games due to QB’s picking up injuries. It’s not a recipe for long-term success. I know you think NU needs to run the triple option like the military academies, but you will see how bad of an idea that is this coming Saturday against Michigan.
  6. Agree that the coaches gaffed on Sims, but not sure how the WR issue is the fault of Rhule and Satt.
  7. It will not be fun next week. Michigan is gonna roll.
  8. The team is still not very talented, but Rhule and his staff is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s#!t. It’s good to see guys who never sniffed the field under the previous staff playing decent, and Rhule using younger guys his staff has recruited.
  9. Yeah, most likely. But, IMO the first step in rebuilding a program is beating the bad to average teams, not necessarily competing against the best teams.
  10. The offense is going to be bad, pretty much all season. But, Rhule seems fine with being as conservative as possible and limiting mistakes, if it means more wins against bad to average teams.
  11. It really doesn’t do any good for players to leave a school midseason, if they can’t play until the next. I know the rule, but can you give examples of guys actually doing it?
  12. Don’t know if you are serious, but players can’t switch teams mid-season.
  13. That’s a $90 million masturbation session.
  14. Yet Desmond Howard will look for another opportunity to say Nebraska should be kicked out of the Big Ten.
  15. It’s like discovering plutonium by accident!
  16. Yeah, I think Real Sports on HBO did a profile on one guy/company who will “invest” in a minor league baseball player and pay him more than typical wages in exchange for a percentage of future wages. It does give the young/minor league player a more livable wage early in their career, but critics have pointed out that these companies seem to prey on young Latin players who may not know what they are getting into.
  17. I wouldn't read too much into that. It's probably just CU's version of "Buff Vision" testing out their video screens and entering the data to appear on the screen.
  18. Seems like the public money is on Colorado, especially after last week's win over TCU. I haven't heard where the sharps are putting their money.
  19. I think the fear of being one-dimensional is fair for this year. However, I don’t think Rhule and Satterfield want to be one-dimensional in the long-run. NU needs better WR’s, and be smarter with the WR’s on the current roster for this year. Yes, Sims needs to improve, but he also needs guys who he can throw to. EDIT: Listening to Nebraska radio today, there has been more the one mention of Minnesota having a very good secondary. That could be another reason for why NU struggled in the passing game last week, but also makes it too soon to say “NU can’t pass”.
  20. Definitely should give you access to the “back room” at Gate 25.
  21. Good gravy. Living in Colorado I’m getting enough media about Deion’s win over TCU, and now I get it shoved down my throat on a NU message board after 1 game in their respective tenures. I’m gonna take a break for a while. Peace!
  22. I’m thinking people are misunderstanding the point of Dirk’s Tweet.
  23. That’s not your decision to make.
  24. A couple of follow-ups on the clock management at the end of the first half: The game clock still does stop for first downs under 2 minutes in each half. However, the clock stoppage is still momentarily to move the chains. Unless the ball carrier goes out of bounds after achieving the first down, the game clock will resume after the chains are set. In this instance, NU's player was in bounds while getting the first down, so the clock started after moving the chains. When Rhule called that 2nd timeout, he was visibly upset with his players for not getting out of the huddle quicker, and the play clock was near zero. Rhule called the timeout to avoid the penalty. That's not necessarily poor clock management by Rhule, but it's poor game management by the players, who should know they need to get out of the huddle quicker and up to the line to run the play. These players run 2-minute drills all the time in practice, they should know to show more urgency to get up to the LOS.
