  1. 1. Like a very few on HB I actually knew who Riley was. I still am amazed at how many people had no who he was. 2. I wasn't sure at first, but I knew MR had good years at Oregon State in the past. I had no clue about his assistants and how he had done in his past few years at Oregon State. As I saw more info come out, I wasn't excited about the hire as it was clear the Eichorst was basically hiring the exact opposite of Pelini. I will never be a fan of the West Coast Offense and statue QB's in the college game, and I was told by an Oregon State alum and former player that Banker was terrible.
  2. True, but Eichorst went the cheap route with Riley and fans are already saying that $3.0M for Frost would be too much to pay for him. Again, you pay for the job, not the person you are hiring.
  3. Don't worry too much about any current coach being under contract. Everyone knows those contracts are made to be broken.
  4. Honestly, I think people are making too much out of the potential head coaching connections to the new AD. With NU continuing to struggle this year, it's a 2-step process. 1. Hire the new AD. 2. Let him conduct a full search for the next head coach. If people are thinking Leach, Kelly, or even Frost, they are trying to make connections that aren't completely there.
  5. You don't pay the market rate based on the guy you're hiring, you are paying the market rate based on the job you are paying for.
  6. Also, if people think Frost will take a "home-town discount" to come to NU, I almost think it would take him more money to come to NU, because he knows the intense scrutiny that he would be under by coming to NU.
  7. 100% correct. That's the market rate for anyone worth a damn, and you will probably need to make it $4.0-4.5M if you are trying to outbid other programs.
  8. Thanks, Austin. So if NU wants to still think themselves as a big program, we need to start shelling out cash for our head coach. I don't care if he has 20 years of coaching experience or this is the guy's first head coaching job, pay the guy the market rate for a head coach at one of the pre-eminent programs in college football.
  9. Exactly right. Stop being cheap on a guy just because he is inexperienced. Pay the market rate for a guy.
  10. I would base it on potential and he has UCF in the top 20, so it's not unrealistic he's a top 20 head coach.
  11. Based on the market price for a top 10-20 head coach. Gotta stop thinking small potatoes and pay top dollar. I'm sure someone can show me coach salary rankings.
  12. Where would $3.0-3.5M rank him among college coaches?
  13. He's running an athletic department, not coaching the football team.
  14. Leach isn't very realistic IMO. Yeah, Moos hired him at WSU, but Leach will probably want to stay there for a while. He likes to be off the beaten path.
  15. AD's generally don't bring their football coach along with them. They aren't directly related. Leach is probably really happy at WSU. He can be his own guy and do things his way.
  16. Nope, but it will easier for a guy like Moos to tell Riley he's gone and NU is moving in a different direction.
  17. Moos will have the ability to hire and fire coaches, but I'm sure he will review his decisions with Bounds and Green, to get their buy-in. So yes, he has the authority, but will go through proper channels with that authority.
  18. I think Moos will definitely pull the trigger on Riley. He won't need to stick around another year to watch the failed Riley era.
  19. Seems like a solid hire. Exact opposite personality as the Ginger Assassin. He's a football guy. If he does well, would be good for him to groom a #2 to hand the reins to in a few years and keep stability.
  20. Fair enough. Riley and his staff have been "good men", but they haven't done much of anything on the field.
  21. I don't get why we need to show patience for a coach who wasn't highly sought after when he was hired by NU, and Riley hasn't shown anything on the field worth a darn. Yeah, Riley has cut ties with long-time assistants to try and change things, but the poor product on the field has stayed the same. The one constant is Riley. He's heading things up, and he's failing.
  22. Honestly, I think Nebraska is the better AD job than Oregon. Yes, Oregon will have Nike money, but that means dealing with Phil Knight. I also wonder how much the student body and the community is invested in the athletic program at Oregon. Eugene is a pretty liberal city that probably has more concerns than sports. I think people know that the students and the community supports the Husker athletic programs, especially if the teams are winning.
  23. This is 100% true. A new coach who is any good will be able to prove themselves with improvement or a great season by year 3. This has been discussed extensively here. Riley has made the on the field product significantly worse in his 3 years.
  24. You are right, I will watch the game to get an idea of what actually happened.
