  1. Then...why don't we wait and see what happens. Yes, we can only wait and see what happens. But, if Riley/Eichorst has the thought of "we just need to turn around some of those close losses and NU will be fine" that's already a losing proposition.
  2. The Bo teams and the 2015 Riley team weren't all that far off. I am willing to admit that. Riley had some bad luck, bad coaching decisions, and other factors that led to a 5-7 regular season. I agree that a few of Bo's 9-win teams were very close to being 6, 7, or 8 win teams. However, my point is that we want NU to get back to being a championship contender every year. In order to do that, NU has to get to the point that they are getting 7,8,9 "easy wins" each year. I know it's more difficult to do in today's college football, but it can be done with recruiting, coaching, development, and scheme. My point is that NU needs to get those 8 comfortable, regular season wins, and then go from there. The true greatness of the season, then depends on how NU does in those other 4 "close games", which can turn on one play and even luck.
  3. You are flat out wrong in that Ohio State was skimming by all season with close games. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-15/big-ten/2015-ohio-state-buckeyes-football-schedule.php There were 3 Ohio State games that were within 10 points. Ohio State went 2-1 in those games.
  4. NU "shouldn't be in the ballgame" with teams like Illinois, BYU, Purdue, and even Northwestern. NU should be getting enough talent and coaching so that those are no contests in the 4th quarter and not coming down to the last minutes. This times infinity It's not like Bo was beating the brakes off Northwestern or Minny However, Bo was beating the brakes off numerous teams each year to get to 9 wins. I am not arguing that Bo should have been retained because he wasn't doing enough to get to NU to a championship level. I am saying that Riley can't be content with 4 or 5 blowout wins and being close (to win or loss) in the rest of the 7-8 games, and say "darn, we lost a few close games this year, that's why we didn't win the division/conference".
  5. You may not like the statement, but what he said is true. Of the seven losses that we had the only game I feel they wern't in was Purdue. Whether anyone likes that or not is there opinion. The BYU, Miami, Illinois, Wisconsin, NW, and Iowa games all came down to the wire and Nebraska could have won them. The fact that NU didn't win them sucks, but his statement isn't false. NU will never get back to the point where the team is competing for conference championships on an annual basis until there aren't 7 games that can go down to the wire. The truly dominant programs have 2 or 3 "close games" a year. Close games can turn on a single play or even luck. Riley was probably unlucky to go 1-6 in "close games" this past year, but it would be nearly impossible to go 6-1 or 7-0 in those "close games". In order for NU to be dominant, the coaches can't be happy with close games. The coaches need to demand 8 or 9 ass-whippings, and then 3 or 4 close games.
  6. Mike'l Severe ‏@MikelSevere 3m3 minutes ago Not surprised that Tramel Ivy isn't visiting this weekend. From everything I heard he is no where close with his grades situation. 0 retweets1 like Reply Retweet Like 1 More

  8. I've done 20 of those, but I only lived in Lincoln for 4 years during college.
  9. So, NU fans want a transfer to come in from another school to provide depth and competition. So, now when a proposed transfer from Tulane comes into visit, NU fans aren't happy because he's "not good enough"? I am not saying this kid will ever do anything at his next stop, but most guys look to transfer from their current school because they are 2nd string/demoted/not all that great. Yes, there are exceptions like Russell Wilson going to Wisconsin, but Wilson is the exception and not the rule.
  10. http://espn.go.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0481573739771730852-4 Congrats to a former Husker. Clete is reaching the top of his profession by being the referee for Super Bowl 50.
  11. Unfortunately this prevents the staff from recruiting for those spots this cycle. If the staff wanted those spots for this cycle then they should go the SEC route and cut guys. I don't agree with it, but the current staff can't go "whoa is me" if a guy doesn't transfer when the coaches want them to.
  12. Well, 2nd semester started this past Monday, so we probably won't see more transfers until after the semester ends. Plus, it will give guys the opportunity to go thru Spring practice at NU and see where they think they rate in the coaches' minds.
  13. I was kind of thinking that too but it would be sweet to just toss them in the crockpot and leave while they are cooking. My wife and I like to try and make different things in the crock pot, because it's nice to have dinner done when we get home from work.
  14. Cincinnati, Memphis, and UConn are the closest schools to the Big Ten footprint. BYU, South Florida, and UCF have also been rumored, as well as Houston in the state of Texas.
  15. I think Sam is referring to schools around the Big Ten footprint, but not in the Big Ten.
  16. I would hope he's better than Gangwish. We can't be satisfied with serviceable defensive ends.
  17. I had AG LEC with LP in the 2nd semester of my freshman year, and It was a night class. After the National Championship victory in the fall of 1994, they were having a big celebration at halftime of a Husker basketball game, which was the same night as our class. I remember LP sheepishly asking the teacher for permission to leave class early to go to the celebration at the Devaney Center. The teacher kind of responded with "well, duh, Lawrence, go ahead". it was just a funny moment.
  18. Sims was much better than where he was on the depth chart. I personally knew him, and he was an athletic freak. If memory serves me correctly, he was the fastest guy on the team. I think he was also the oldest guy on the team. For whatever reason, he was always in the coaches doghouse. They didn't like some of his sideline antics. Sims was a totally freak athlete. Teach might have known him from the dorms, and I had played basketball with him a time or two at the campus rec center. He was in his mid 20's while he was at UNL. I always thought it was funny that the roster listed him being a graduate of Omaha Burke. Sims never touched foot in the school.
  19. One of the funniest moments I remember after this game was that Saban said that he though NU's best RB that game was Jay Sims. Sims was the 5th string I-back that day, and ripped off an 80-yard TD run late in the 4th quarter. See the 5:05 mark of the video posted above.
  20. Very impactful stuff on Benning & Sharp this morning. I just started listening to the podcasts. Benning and other former Huskers (especially the RB's) lost a close friend yesterday.
  21. It might have had to do with Damon's divorce from his ex-wife. I am not sure about the timing of when that happened.
  22. Omaha.com has posted an excerpt from the book about the mid-90s Huskers, and it's from the chapter about Lawrence. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/phillips-was-explosive-on-field-but-deep-anger-smoldered-inside/article_53d51f44-ba27-11e5-a8e1-23ec7fb8f3a4.html It's a pretty cool read, as it touches his high school days, his recruitment to NU, and his time at NU before the Kate McEwen incident.
  23. He played great against FSU in that Orange Bowl. He had a great 2nd half when Jones was pretty uneffective in the first half. I didn't realize that Phillips was suspended for the 1st half of the '94 Orange Bowl against FSU. He skipped a practice to see his mom (who had moved to Nebraska) after she got beat up by her boyfriend. Osborne wanted to suspend LP for the whole game for the skipped practice, but the team captains were able to talk TO into only a 1st half suspension. Man, that's another "what if" for that game. Phillips had become the more effective RB by the end of that year, but he was only able to play half the game.
  24. To me, LP wearing #1 added to his aura. It just looked so cool on him.
