  1. Forgive me, I just want to vomit at the reminder of this coaching staff doing exactly the opposite of what they told the media/fans prior to this season. Didn't MR state that he was going to move to a spread offense over at OSU before taking over at Nebraska? Here, we have a team who was more comfortable with spread formations/up-tempo, recruited for it and we force feed them the WCO and sling the football around in crappy weather 45+ times. That's not putting your players in the best position to win. Our OC plays not to lose. Makes me sick hearing him say he was "spooked" by calling run plays but then goes and asks Tommy to play like Tom Brady or one of the Manning brothers. Riley and Langsdorf were playing lip service to the fans and the media. They were just saying what we all wanted to hear. We fell for that old man hook line and sinker.
  2. I also think it's ironic that Armstrong lost 5 games in his freshman and sophomore year when he had coaches who coached to his strengths and didn't make him "do too much". Then when a new coach comes in and tries to make Armstrong do what he doesn't excel in, Armstrong loses 6 games as a starter.
  3. Well, Riley pretty much showed what kind of coach he was with his 15 years of college head coaching experience. I'm not expecting a miraculous turnaround in year 16.
  4. If the Big 12 goes after UCF to get into Florida, Frost may want to stay. Before you say "why would the Big 12 want UCF?" It's a school outside of Texas, it's in a recruiting hot bed, and it has 60k students. If the Big Ten went after Rutgers, the Big 12 going after UCF isn't so far fetched.
  5. Why don't the coaches just kick Darlington and Bush to the curb, and give Martin a scholly? Because Nebraska is not in the $EC and we made a commitment as a university on our scholarships being four years. I believe in Darlington's case it was unconditional on even ever playing. Right?? I understand that it's not the "Nebraska way", but they can be encouraged to move on. With Darlington, move him to medical hardship so he can remain on scholly, stay in school, and be a quasi-grad assistant.
  6. Why don't the coaches just kick Darlington and Bush to the curb, and give Martin a scholly?
  7. I didn't say it was a perfect comparison, and I don't think Dirk was either. I think he was saying it's eerily similar. Another disappointing loss, to a team wearing black/gold(yellow), which is in a border state, and a team that a lot of fans don't want to admit is a rival. I wish people would stop taking things 100% literal all the darn time.
  8. Well actually.... I'm not sure why the 28-20 loss to #3 Iowa would remind Dirk of losing 26-20 to a CU team that lost nine games that year. #3 Iowa. Nine loss Colorado. Similar? No. Huh? CU went 8-5 in 2004, and the win over NU enabled CU to win the Big 12 North. I know it's not the #3 team in the country, but CU was decent.
  9. Vernon Adams wasn't exacly a scrub to throw back there. Three year starter at Eastern Washington who would have beaten Oregon this year if he hadn't transferred. Actually he played against Michigan State in week 2 as well. The only teams in which they played a team with a good defense they struggled with (Michigan State, and Utah). PAC 12 is pretty weak on the defensive side Ok, so now SF is riding the coattails of a DIAA transfer... If I could retweet that post, I would. Classic!!!
  10. This gets posed all the time, and frankly I think it's a dumb question. Him being a Nebraska native that played here is part of his resume to look at as a potential head coach at Nebraska. He's a great coach in his own right, but him being a hometown boy that knows the culture, a former player that knows the program, and a good man that would embrace the values and the characteristics of the state are important. Would Michigan have hired Brady Hoke if he wasn't a Michigan Man? Would Urban have jumped back into coaching for any job other than his homestate school? You don't think Bama will come calling to Dabo Swinney when Saban hangs it up? Would Pat Fitzgerald or Mike Gundy have essentially lifetime job security if they didn't play at NW or OSU respectively? So a good reason for the Frank Solich hire is because he played here? Or to have Turner Gill here as a head coach. Would it be great to bring back the hometown kid who won a national championship?? Sure, but I don't need a hometown kid for me to feel better about the program. I just want the coach who is going to win here. He has ZERO head coaching experience this year and the last couple years he's called plays he had arguably the best QB in the NCAA. Let's see what he can do on his own before we crown him. Lawrence, I didn't realize they gave you internet access in the hole, and are you still mad that Frosty started banging Kate McEwen after you and her broke up? No problems with Frost. I'm a 27 year old fan so I was just a youngin when Frost was playing at Nebraska. Just guess I'm not a real big fan of hiring a guy just because he lived and went to school at NEB. I get it he had success at Oregon with a Heisman winning QB. I think the timing was pretty good for him because he was looking at the QB depth chart for Oregon and saw what was coming in the next couple years. I think Frost has one of the strongest resumes of all the assistant coaches in Division 1 football. He played for two legendary coaches who ran pretty different offenses. He played both offense and defense at the college level, and had great success at NU. He played a few years in the NFL at safety, including playing for Bill Parcells. He served as a co-DC at Northern Iowa and then OC at Oregon. His parents are also long-time coaches. Simply put the dude had a great resume. I know a great resume doesn't make a great coach, but I am confident he will do very well. So if he had such a strong resume then why go to UCF? This is one of those disagree moments where I see you as a Frost "bring back the glory days" and you see me as Frost hater I guess I would have to ask...what on his resume would not be strong? Lack of HC experience is probably it, right? I think going to UCF is a brilliant move. Recruiting is "easy" by that I mean, even after FSU, Miami and UF get the guys they want you still have plenty players left for a solid class each year. Expectations are super low: win 5 games next year and you are "amazing" get to a bowl game and you are "super terrific amazing" I wouldn't exactly say the recruiting is easy as they just went 0-12. Also they just playing in and won a BCS bowl not to long ago so I wouldn't say expectations are super low. To me he is the guy who road the coat tails of Marcus Mariota. Just as a Charlie Weiss, or a Josh McDaniels did of a Tom Brady for example. It didn't matter who was going to call the plays at Oregon the offense was still going to run smoothly with Mariota at the helm. The responses to your "why did he go to UCF" question were already answered pretty well. I won't rehash them. I don't think he rode Mariota's coat tails. Mariota gave a lot of credit to Frost when Mariota won the Heisman, and he had Frost at all the awards ceremonies. Yes, Frost was helped by great talent at QB, but it goes both ways. This year, Adams got to Eugene right at the start of fall camp, and Frost was able to get him ready to be the starting QB. Adams then got hurt, and Frost had to do a lot of coaching to keep Oregon going. I know Oregon lost 3 games this year, but much of it was due to a porous defense. Oregon's offense was humming along pretty well in wins over USC and Stanford, who are the 2 representatives in the PAC 12 title game.

  12. I don't think it's the entire group all of a sudden switching narratives. The opinions are still split. I was all for the coordinator hiring and I still am. Like it or not. These people who think NU needs a guy with experience don't grasp coaching. If we go back to the firing of Bo, and we have 2 candidates. Bob Davie and Scott Frost...who are you gunna choose? Life is about taking chances. When you play it safe, generally you will have a pretty BLAND life. I agree. I never understood the thought of "well he doesn't have head coaching experience". What's the difference of a guy making mistakes due to being a first time head coach and a guy making the same mistakes he has had for 20 years in coaching? Well, for one, the new guy is more apt to use those mistakes as learning opportunities. Sometimes, in order to hit a home run, you have to swing for the fences. Going for a coaching retread is going for a single up the middle.
  13. I think if Frost does well at UCF, he becomes one of the "up and coming" head coaching prospects in college football. He is very well known in the college football ranks, based on his playing days at NU and him getting pretty good jobs in his relative coaching youth. Think Jim Harbaugh. 11 years ago he got the University of San Diego head coaching job. He then went to Stanford and so on. Harbaugh might have been more well known with his NFL career, but he was roughly the same age when he got his first head coaching job at USD. You didn't answer my question If he didn't go to Nebraska, he would be seen very much like Tom Herman, Justin Fuente, and other youngish coordinators who have moved onto be head coaches of mid-major college football teams. Being from Nebraska and being a former NU QB does enhance his resume at his own alma mater though.
  14. I'm really interested to see the blend of offense he ends up running. The guy has played for and coached with so many brilliant offensive minds, I am sure he has some brilliant thoughts on what he will do when he has control of his own offense and team.
  15. We're really grasping for silver linings here if we're pointing at zero blowouts as a success when this team lost to Pur-f******-due. And it was 42-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The whole 4th quarter was garbage time.
  16. I don't agree with this writer's line of thinking. Maybe Frost's agent put out feelers to bigger programs regarding Frost. I have a feeling these bigger programs mentioned that he needed experience running his own program. Maybe Frost wants to try being an overall CEO type coach. The guy played both offense and defense in college. He played safety in the NFL, and he has coached offense and defense positions in the NFL. Maybe he's bored with just running an offense (that is more known with Kelly still) and wants to try running an entire program.

  18. I definitely agree with this. I think most of the playing-time decisions are based on who does better in the passing game. Early in the season, the coaches said Wilbon wasn't getting as much time because of his pass blocking. By all accounts, Jerald Foster is an absolute mauler when run blocking but he said he is still working on his pass blocking. Have to think Farmer is in the same boat. Everything they do is pre-disposed towards the pass. With a QB who isn't a very good passer. Doesn't seem like a very intelligent choice, imo. +1
  19. Benning was saying this morning that Frost is a single guy and coming back to Lincoln wouldn't be a good fit and he doesn't think Frost would want to make his way back to Lincoln. Is this his recent "days of our lives" soap opera drama they've been joking over? Because I thought I had heard Frost express his interest in coaching at Nebraska sometime in his career? Oh well, congrats to Frost, glad he's leaving finally leaving Oregon. Benning said he was single? Interesting that such an "insider" would get a basic fact wrong. Frost isn't married, is he? He's engaged.
  20. Reilly is over 18, isn't he? What's your definition of a "kid"? I'm nearly 40. I pretty much consider anyone 18-22 still a kid. Yes, I understand the whole "if he can fight for our country, he's not a kid anymore".
  21. yup It's what kids do. Twitter/Facebook/other social media are their outlet. It's not a big deal.
  22. False. Or the Cotton boys wouldn't have been on scholly. Unless it's different for the coaching staff Huskerhead has it correct. Family of university emoployees can go to school at discounted rate. It's totally different if the kid is going to be playing a sport. As pointed out elsewhere, student athletes could be recruited to schools simply by giving their parents a job. Not that it's not being done currently in the SEC.
  23. Maybe Keyan Williams can say he's from Ogalalla and earn a county scholarship to pay for his tuition.
