  1. I believe I read somewhere that Wilbon is out due to injury. I could be mistaken though. Thanks. I'm yearning for Taylor to get a chance, thinking he might be the answer. Wonder what's up there. You are hoping Taylor gets some action? That guy hasn't sniffed the field at the RB position.
  2. I think the main point of these efficiency rankings is that it gives an idea of actually "how good" the team is. I have seen countless posts about how NU is the best 5-6 team in the country. These efficiency rankings kind of show that. According to how efficient the team has been throughout the season, the expected wins is 8.5. One could argue that the reason NU isn't at 8 or 9 wins is a few lucky plays or bad decisions at the end of some games. NU is basically the same team as Northwestern and Wisconsin, but those 2 teams have been able to win the majority of the close games, rather than losing them like NU has. Where we should want NU to get to the point is that NU is in the top 10-15 of statistical efficiency, so that the games against Big Ten West opponents aren't coming down to the final possession of the game, and NU would be able to regularly compete with Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State from the Big Ten East.
  3. Massage sounds a lot like manipulate. Anyway I get how you are really into that stat end of the game. Lots of people really like the stuff. In baseball I get the stat end of it because it is a 162 game season. But to me a 12 game season is a little short to draw huge statitical information. Do you play fantacy football, or do you gamble on games? People that do a lot of that tend to look at statistic a lot more than some do. I do neither. Instead of looking at stats I watch a lot of games, because I love the game of football. Yes, a 12 game season is a small sample size, but each game has 60-100 offensive snaps from each team. The number of snaps creates a large enough sample size to analyze the data efficiently. I do play fantasy football, but am not super into it. I don't do Draft Kings or Fan Duel. I used to gamble in college, but not anymore. I am into the stat trends because I like math. I also watch games on Saturday. I like having statistical information as another tool to analyze information. One of the complaints of the CFB Playoff committee is that they are too old, and prefer old-school football, so teams in the Big 12 get penalized. The non-statistical minds may think that certain teams play better defense just because they give up a fewer points per game. In fact, defenses may be "stronger" in a certain conference just because the pace of play is slower. For example, a team like Oklahoma is ranked 25th in scoring defense by PPG, but football outsiders rank their defensive efficiency #1. On the other hand, Wisconsin is #1 in scoring defense in PPG allowed, but #14 in defensive efficiency. Yes, Wisconsin's D is good, but their PPG benefits from style of play from their offense, and the poor offenses that Wisconsin plays in the Big Ten. Ok, I understand the statistical end of the game, but in the end it is just one small thing to look at in a game. Statistiaclly speaking there is no reason why OSU should not have been able to run or pass against an MSU defense that Nebraska almost put 500 yard on. Yet they had less than 150. Statistically speaking Purdue should not have had the kind of game they did against Nebraska, yet they did. Football is an emotional game that has players playing better " in the moment" than they should be able to statistically. It happens all the time. That is why I guess I don't like too many statistics in football, it takes the emotion out of the game. For someone like you that is exactly why you like the statistic part. Just different opinions I guess. Except you are partially incorrect. Nebraska has a more efficient offense than Ohio State according to the linked efficiency rankings. Plus, MSU wasn't doing much with their offense, so Ohio State was content on being super conservative, as long as they were in the lead or tied. NU was behind for the 2nd half of the MSU game, so NU had to be more aggressive on offense. Throw in the fact that the weather conditions were much worse in the Ohio State game, it's not a huge surprise that NU would have more success than Ohio State against Michigan State's defense. Yes, the amount of difference is surprising, but again I chalk that up to the weather and overall game conditions.

  6. I hear a lot of mention regarding rote statistics, but what the football outsiders guys do is massage the rote statistics to put out efficiency ratings. Baylor and their fast paced offense is going to create a higher YPG produced on offense and allowed on defense. That may not mean their offense or defense is better or worse than others. I like it when "efficiency" measures are done, because the stats are normalized, and made into an apples to apples comparison.
  7. I am not sure what you mean by "what can happen during a coaching change"? Are you saying it's typical for teams to lose a bunch of close games during coaching changes?
  8. Mike'l Severe sent out some tweets this morning regarding Nebraska's Fremeau Efficiency Index (FMI) according to Football Outsiders. If you aren't familiar with Football Outsiders, they are basically a website that does in-depth and innovative statistical analysis for NFL and college football. Here is a link to what I am referencing in this post: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/fei Anyway, according to the FEI, Nebraska is the 34th most efficient team in CFB. Given the FEI rating, NU would have expected to win 8.5 FBS regular season games. With NU going to finish at 5 or 6 FBS wins in the regular season, how do you view this season? Was NU just unlucky to lose games against BYU, Illinois, etc.? Does Riley deserve credit for having an "efficient" team, but deserves criticism for "losing games that NU should have won". Does this efficiency rating show that NU isn't as "untalented" as many people have thought? There are a few more interesting nuggets from the link. Among teams in the Big Ten West, NU is ranked above every team except Iowa. When garbage time is excluded, NU ranked 50th in efficiency ratings (column GE). NU's strength of schedule ranks 92nd in this measure. NU's offense efficiency is ranked 28th, while the defense efficiency is ranked 80th. Since I am kind of a stat nerd, I thought these measure were pretty interesting. People can use stats to "prove" whatever theory they have, but I think these efficiency rankings show what we have seen for most of the season. From my point of view, the team has looked good at times, and I have expected more wins than we have seen this year. IMO, NU should have easily beaten Illinois and Purdue. The games against NW, BYU, and Wisconsin were "toss-ups" and it is very disappointing that NU lost all three. The Michigan State win is a very good win. A win over Iowa wouldn't be as huge an upset as the CFB Playoff rankings would make it appear. Finally, Miami appears to have completely fallen off after beating NU in week 3.
  9. Riley is the type of guy though that even if you did talk to him about football and bombard him with football questions he would answer them and genuinely enjoy the conversation. The guy really is an incredibly sincere and nice person. I'm not doubting that Riley isn't sincere and nice. However, if Q and his brother were beating down Riley with a bunch of football questions, I would expect Riley to find an excuse to leave the conversation after 15 minutes. I give a lot of credit to Q and his brother for treating Riley like a normal person and not beating him down.
  10. I'm sure Riley was willing to stand there and chit-chat because Q and his brother weren't beating Riley down with a bunch of football questions. These coaches have lives outside of football. Even though Riley was on a recruiting trip, I am sure he was glad to not hear a bunch of football crap from a couple of deranged fans.
  11. Cool story, Q. I don't think many people question Riley's personality or "kindness". I am sure he is a great model on how you should act professionally. I really do hope Riley succeeds at NU, because I just want to see NU have a championship program again.
  12. Why would College Gameday be in Lincoln on Friday for the Iowa-NU game when College Gameday isn't even on the air on Friday morning?
  13. While also losing to Purdue and Illinois. Crap happens when you are building a team,,get over it.Crap like terrible game management and game plans? You really want to start that lame argument again? Guessing you will call for Riley to be fired if we beat Iowa and lose the bowl game.Funny that you came out of the woodwork after NU finally won 2 games in a row this year. Been here all along, just sitting back and enjoying being right all along, how is that cold plate of crow tasting? bet it will be a little chewy after next Friday, but still ENJOY!What crow? I want NU to beat Iowa. That will be great. However let's not pretend that the first 9 games didn't happen. NU will still have a 6-6 season. That's not good. As much as I question the hire, you can't expect any new coach to come in and turn things around. it just doesn't happen. Give it time. You can always jump ship if you're disastified with the team. Plenty of other fanbases you can be part of.Thanks for the advice. I'm a Nebraska native and a proud alum of UNL. I don't quit on the Huskers, I just don't have to give blind satisfaction to coaching that was highly questionable in a lot of points this season.

  18. Picture of the 2nd woman Umm.......ya, wood. Wth. I agree!!! The chick in the pink is totally bangable!!!
  19. Houston does nothing for the Big 12 financially. Nothing. If the 12 is going to expand, its going to be in new markets. Think some combination of BYU/Cincinnati/UCF/USF/Memphis. I was involved in a twitter discussion regarding Houston to the Big 12. Most people think Texas would block Houston to the Big 12. I don't see the Big 12 wanting another Texas school. Cincinnati seems like a logical choice. Mike'l Severe responded to me with UCF. A lot of schools don't want to put up with BYU's scheduling requirements and their rules of no games on Sundays.
  20. I've got a terrible beard going. Trimmed up the mustache to keep it from going too crazy. I think I'm gonna shave it down to a goatee and sideburns this weekend, and then have some fun with it the last few days of November.
  21. 8. self righteous posters anry at everyone else for talking about the incident Good one!!! 9. Way too serious people who say we shouldn't be making any "funny posts" about a situation involving such a serious accusation. I understand the sexual assault is a serious situation, however, some of the reactions aren't as "serious". Let's keep 'em coming!!!
  22. Let me see who everyone is getting mad at for this incident, and let me know if I missed anyone. 1. The LPD for always targeting Huskers 2. The OWH for "sensational journalism" 3. TA for throwing a party 4. TA for not telling Mike Riley first thing 5. The girl for being a jersey chaser and then reporting a sexual assault. 6. The kids' parents for not telling their kids to keep their ding-dong in their pants. 7. Other message board posters for spreading further rumors.
  23. So OWH took it upon themselves to be TMZ? Reporting on celebrity news? I get it. It's going to drive readers and clicks. Also I see your point about getting in front of the story because bad news beating you home is never good. I just think if they wanted to report it, there had to have been a way to do so with minimal collateral damage. Like many have stated, these household residents are now tied to this regardless of level of involvement. I have to agree here. They shouldn't have reported it until they found out that one of those players is involved. Also, now everyone knows their address. Who cares if they know their address? I don't get why people think these players should be protected. The OWH reported the facts as to what happened. Nothing more, nothing less.
  24. I didn't get to watch the game but coaches can't call time outs now if that makes any difference. I think they still can but only at certain times of the game...not live action like when a guy is diving on a ball Coaches can call timeouts in dead ball situations. So, yes Miles could have called a timeout after a made basket or another dead ball. He could at least instruct his players to call a timeout.
