  1. Yeah, I'd rather have ours... by a LOT... than the Great Lakes Michigan uniform. Not feeling the look of that at all. And whoever said Notre Dame and Nebraska keeping Adidas relevant... while I know it can be hard to give Wisky props at times... they ARE another Adidas school and will be wearing alternates too. Just as a reminder. We've been with Adidas so long, I seriously doubt if they throw decent money at us that we'll switch. Without there being a true REASON to change, from the ADs point of view, there won't be change. And I'm thinking the AD likely isn't thinking the alternate uniform we got is going to be a reason to change.
  2. Parkour Legolas. Legolas the Oliphaunt slayer (while performing more Parkour). Denethor as this vile, disgusting creature rather than a Lord of Men. The brilliance of the Two Towers cliffhanger (Frodo was alive but taken by the enemy) tossed aside needlessly. The forces of Mordor entering Minas Tirith. Shelob in the third act rather than the centerpiece of the second's denoument. All these you're OK with? We'll have to agree to disagree. Regarding Sam, which was a minor part of my discourse up there but which got all the focus, yes it did "end up there," but that's not the point. I simply didn't like how he handled it. Aye, I believe we will have to agree to disagree. I could argue points on all of those, but ultimately, you have your mind made up (and I had mine made up a while ago), so further discourse is probably going to avail us not. Again, for the most part, I agree with Landlord, though I can appreciate the comments you've made. (And I've heard similar before, so you're obviously not alone in that thinking.) As I stated above, ultimately, in movies made from books like these, I've taken to being content with the fact that the film is the director's concept of the book, and not necessarily a pure and accurate rendition of the book. I could go on for hours about pieces of the Chronicles of Narnia films that I have problems with... but again... I take them simply as the director's vision of CS Lewis' stories. I did enjoy reading your comments, even though I didn't necessarily agree. To see others so passionate about early fantasy literature that I hold dear is truly a treasure every time I find it.
  3. We all do. Sad thing is... the wife of one of my best friends happened to be out on East Campus not too long ago, and posted on FB it was P.O. Pears Day... and they had the Jiffy Burger... and another burger that sounded about on par with it. *sigh* No way I could get out there that day either.
  4. Peanut Butter and honey is the way to go. Not to thread-jack, but speaking of peanut butter... I miss the Jiffy Burger. *sigh*
  5. And peanut butter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> syrup on pancakes. Chocolate chip pancakes... with peanut butter. *drool*
  6. Sausage, wrapped in pancake, wrapped with bacon, on top of French toast.
  7. I tend to agree with Landlord regarding the direction of the movies. I think most of what knapp mentioned ended up there. Could there have been more done to make out the Gondorians and humans in general as having more strength? Potentially, but ultimately, I think it showed the strengths and failings of men in Middle-Earth all too well. And I had also read the trilogy many times before the movies came out. I actually liked the way Jackson framed much of what he left out, in that he mentioned that just because they didn't include it didn't mean it didn't happen. The biggest problem I have with the trilogy had to do with the way the ending was framed. Because the ending gave a much different meaning to what happened in the Shire than what the books did. I was okay with the death of Saruman in the extended versions (I thought the dismissal of him in the regular versions was a tad bit TOO dismissive of who Saruman was), but what got left out with the way Jackson was approached it was that it made it seem as though life in general went on in the Shire as it always had, without being touched by the war that ravaged the rest of the world. Tolkien's whole point in the books was that war touches EVERYONE, and touches ALL places. Jackson's ending fit way too neatly with today's American idea that war that doesn't personally affect us doesn't touch us. Tolkien had seen the travesties of war touch all parts of the globe, and drew an ending to fit with that belief, which I felt more accurately protrays the reality than Jackson's endings did. I know they already felt like they had too many 'endings' for the movie the way it was, but I felt, if anything, that piece drew away too much from the books. But in the end... it's not really the books on the screen, but the director's (and to a certain extent the screenwriter's) vision of the books on the screen. And every time I see a movie interpretation of a book, ultimately, that's what I have to come back to. Because there are VERY few movies that can live up to what we can create with our own imagination while reading a book.
  8. Nice article by Rich Kaipust about Gary Bargen's retirement. I had not realized that he had been in that position over the years. May have seen the name, but never really dawned on me who exactly the guy was. I remember him from his years as assistant coach, but probably mostly remember him as Jed's Dad. Really nice to hear how well things turned out in that role for him. Always good to hear how many truly good people we have in the athletic department, even if you hear about it more as they're getting ready to leave than anything else. http://www.omaha.com/article/20120730/BIGRED/707309906/1001#nu-s-bargen-found-his-life-after-coaching
  9. Confirmed by Adidas to Sam McKewon, evidently. In the same blog post where they stated the game had been nicknamed "The Quick and the Red.
  10. Nicely done! Glad they were able to make that happen! She'll be a great addition to the staff!
  11. Fantastic opening ceremony! Favorite parts were the Queen/Bond, Rowan Atkinson, and the cauldron lighting! And I also thought McCartney sounded pretty warn tonight, though my wife thought he was just choked up at the beginning.
  12. Love the look. Something a little different without going too much. While it has some similarities to Michigan's, it has enough different to keep me happy. For those complaining about the N, it really is a throwback. Look at the N on the helmet, then look at the one on the jersey. That's where the N comes from. Had to see them side by side to be sure, but the link knapp gave above had the pics of the helmet and the jersey side by side. I'm good with it, and if Rex and the players like it, that's who we should be doing this type of thing for in the first place. I'll keep Adidas, tyvm, to any that want to change. While I like some of the schemes UA and Nike have, I'll take what Adidas comes up with any day.
  13. That's what was in the chat if anyone is having trouble finding it. I really hope they didn't f*ck with the helmets. He also said this shortly after that: Mike: ] So you have seen the new alternate uni's? Any other teaser comment you can share? Tuesday July 24, 2012 10:50 Mike 10:51 Sam McKewon: I haven't seen them. But I have a pretty good idea. That's why my idea is "pretty good" and not "really good" Tuesday July 24, 2012 10:51 So while he has a good idea (guessing someone 'in the know' probably described to him what they were doing), it's not 'really good'.
  14. Hadn't looked in here for a while, so I pulled up the old 'Pinnacle Bank Arena' thread in the BBall forum, and posted the video link there as well. Also posted a link to the LJS article that talked about the area and the vid that came out the same day. I may try and walk down to the place where canopy street is supposed to be, see what pics I can get, and try and post sometime this evening or this week. Great to see all the new construction being completed downtown! The 'Larson Building' just opened (the new structure that went up where the Starship 9 theatre used to be. My opinion, but I thought they did a nice job on the building. Mutual of Omaha Bank has been in and open for some time on the corner of 14th and Q, and Chipotle's new place, on the same corner they used to have of 13th and Q, looks like it's about ready. I was surprised that with all the construction being done, they were waiting on the public plaza being put in at 13th and P to start work until Spring, but maybe some of the stuff they want to do there won't fit in with starting now or in the fall. *shrug* Don't know construction enough to know. Much of the stuff down on the Antelope Valley side of downtown looks nice too. I'll see if I can get some pics next to the Parkway there to give some feel for those not in town, if I get a chance sometime. Fun stuff!
  15. New video up that I saw on DTL's FB page - http://www.haymarket...rena-flyby-0712 Nicely done, and I got a better feel from this one as to where exactly everything will be. Course, actually SEEING the arena going up every day, and understanding it's location, may be helping my understanding of all of that as well. Edit: Nice article from the LJS, complete with an updated map of the area downtown. Interesting. http://journalstar.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/new-video-shows-what-west-haymarket-will-look-like-in/article_6dc3187a-b17d-5b9a-8591-02bb398f5803.html
  16. This is the difference between "the exception" and "the rule." Nobody is saying that NO Husker fan says stupid crap. There are idiots everywhere. Here, it's the exception. That's all anyone is saying. EDIT - not five minutes after reading/responding to this, I run across this in Brian Christopherson's article about the 1992 Colorado game (which I was at, and it was crazy): That was a fun night! LINK Yeah. Poor Colorado. Underdog Nebraska beats CU despite unruly atmosphere By By JOE BONGE Published: Sunday, November 27, 2005 Updated: Sunday, June 17, 2012 18:06<p class="addthis_toolbox addthis_default_style "> Share on email CHRIS VANKAT/DN A lone Colorado fan cheers in the empty student section during the fourth quarter of the Huskers lopsided 30-3 victory over the Buffs. Two of the CU student sections were cleared after students began throwing bottles and other debris It all started at midfield before Nebraska and Colorado even lined up for the opening kickoff. As the two teams warmed up, the Colorado players converged on the 50-yard line jumping up and down with their helmets ritualistically raised to the sky. The tension mounted and soon Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell and several referees stood as the final barrier between the teams as they taunted each other. Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan called the incident "out of hand" and said he was happy the players kept their composure. "I don't know if the league or commissioner will do anything about that, but I don't think it's necessary to be taunted and to try to intimidate an opponent," Callahan said. No punches were thrown and no penalties were flagged, but the pre-game fracas before Nebraska's 30-3 win on Saturday highlighted the strangest game NU has been a part of this season. "When they started talking trash at the 50, I think that was their mistake," NU defensive end Jay Moore said. "And it only gave this team more fuel to come out and win." NU came into the contest a 14-point underdog to the Big 12 Conference North Division-leading Buffaloes. But the Huskers kept a lid on the CU offense, allowing 212 yards of total offense and just 53 rushing yards – much to the chagrin of the Colorado faithful. Nebraska dominated the first half and took a 17-3 lead into halftime. After NU quarterback Zac Taylor found wide receiver Nate Swift for a 21-yard touchdown pass with 6:30 left in the third quarter, the Colorado student section voiced their displeasure. Through the rest of the game, bottles rained down on the field from the CU student section, causing officials to stop play multiple times. At one point midway through the fourth quarter, two sections of Colorado students were ejected from the game, stopping play during a Nebraska drive for almost 10 minutes. Colorado Coach Gary Barnett said there was nothing he could do about the unruly behavior. "They probably felt the same frustration that all of us felt today and they just had some things they could throw," Barnett said. "They're just a microcosm of what we were feeling inside as well and we just couldn't do anything about it." Nebraska put up 498 total yards of offense up on the Buffaloes, but the West Coast offense wasn't the only thing running wild on the field. Twice during the game – once in the second quarter and once in the fourth quarter – a fan breached the sidelines and scrambled onto the field. The series of strange events, which culminated with the biggest surprise of the day in NU's 27-point upset, was set in motion at midfield before a ball was ever put in play. "The entire Buffalo team came out tough, talking trash and acting as if they have always owned this division," NU linebacker Corey McKeon said. "But we came out with heart, with fire, and our team pounded them from start to finish." I remember watching that game, being first hacked at hearing what had happened, then finding it oh so humorous when they emptied out the student section. Too good. If I recall correctly, Barnett even got on the stadium sound system, and tried to defuse the situation prior to removing the students, and that didn't help either.
  17. I agree with a few other comments I've seen, that I doubt the schools are going to be willing to give up that kind of authority to the conference. But that being said, from what I've read of the proposal, he alone wouldn't the authority to fire. The only way he would be able to do so would be in conjunction with the committee of conference presidents. But at this point, with the severity of the scandal, I'm sure they're looking at all options right now to curb any hint of scandalous behavior going forward. I think this type of power still needs to be kept in the hands of the individual schools, though.
  18. Yeah, but we did top Michigan in that rating. They were #6. Beaver Statidum, the Shoe, and Camp Randall are the top 3 that have yet to be revealed. And I'm definitely biased. Nothing for me like Memorial Stadium in the fall, and nothing likely ever will be.
  19. Agreed, TS. GSG, I looked around a bit, and it doesn't appear there is any TV. Again, it's probably more of an opportunity for the guys to get some games in during the break in a holiday tournament, without having them get beat up. I think TS has it exactly right, probably a good springboard into B1G action.
  20. For those that are glad this didn't happen, you do realize that the main reason we didn't go to a nine-game schedule in conference, as I recall, was because of this? And so we'll likely in the near future end up going to the nine-game schedule in conference anyway? Yeah, not seeing it as really any different in that respect. We'll still likely end up with the same type of scheduling we do now, because of the want/need to have seven home games/year. We'll have the one 'big' game matchup non-con a year, we'll have one or two that are 'two-for-one' strength type teams, and then one or two patsy 'pay' type games, as we always do. Not really seeing this changing anything. And to be honest, I'm okay with that kind of scheduling, because I think it gives us a mix, without losing the big revenue from the home games.
  21. Just to make that cut will be good within itself, with the attention the kid is getting. To be included with those schools in a kid's 'cut list' can only help. Not sure how realistic we can be with him coming here, but I'm certainly optimistic that Miles can work his magic.
  22. Not sure how exciting this is, but the official site announced the Huskers will be participating in the Sun Bowl Invitational this year. Evidently Miles participated last year with Colorado St., so I would guess that's how we ended up there again. Probably looking to pick up a Christmas break tournament, and may not have had many other options at this point. Others participating are UTEP, Central Michigan, Arkansas-Pine Bluff. UTEP was about even with us on RPI last year, the others were way down the list. Not too exciting, but a little more info about the schedule. 23. Gotcha. Thanks for checking. Appreciate it, and maybe there'll be some way to work those kinks out. Thanks for the reply, AR H, and for all you do for us!
