What unsung Husker will emerge in fall camp?
flatwaterfan replied to NUance's topic in Husker Football
How about a walkon like Roach, Jake Long, Spencer Long or Blatchford? These are guys that might end up on the 2 deep. -
I think May (wlb) Roach (mlb) and Whaley (SLB) makes up the 2nd team unit. Stoddard may be in there somewhere too.

Would Abdul Muhammad make all time top ten WR at NU?
flatwaterfan replied to OH HSKR FAN's topic in Husker Football
Not in any order. Here are some of my favorites. Guy Ingles, Frost Anderson, Todd Brown, Tim Smith, Chuck Malito, Bobby Thomas, Jon Bostic, Nate Swift, Purify, Nunn. There are other WB's that I liked like von Shephard, Kenny Brown, Richard Bell, Shane Swanson (now there was a tough kid). Corey Dixon Dana Brinson, Curtis Craig. Muhammed is in my top 20 or 25. -
Sad or happy we don't play Iowa State anymore?
flatwaterfan replied to copenhagen longcut's topic in Husker Football
I will miss playing ISU. Iowa will be a good replacement. I will miss the Big 8 teams more than the Texas teams because I grew up with those games. I will miss them all at the same level. Prior to the b12 OU would of been the team that I missed the most, but the b12 rotation killed that. So now their relegated to the same level as all the b8 teams. B1G will be fun and I am looking forward to it. One thing I attribute to playing ISU at ISU is that game is usually cold and windy. Also will remember Kent laughing about Tommie Fraizer giving T.O dagger eyes. ( When T.O recruited Tommie he said that they don't really play in too many cold games. which is true..... ) -
Have you ever heard somebody say this?
flatwaterfan replied to Axl_sued_me's topic in Husker Football
I've heard that from a few Creighton fans. -
Cox and BTN have come to an agreement. Details will probably come out Monday or sometime early next week. Most likely it will be on extended basic. Not sure if they will raise the price. Need to find out if there will be multiple BTN channels carried by Cox to cover the alternate games too and verify btn2go is available.

I think October 8th is going to be electric. First b1g home game against Ohio State no less. Should have the same feel as an OU game. I think it will be loud. Need to get a good start. We also get some very fine weather in October. Some top 10 days. Hopefully that weekend is a top 10 weekend . -
I like the idea of redshirting all freshmen, but it's tough to do in this day and age because of the scholarship limits and to a lesser degree the potential for losing players to the NFL draft. So I think from a idealistic frame of mind Pelini can support this issue, but from a practical standpoint he must recruit the best players that he can and play them as needed. I think what he was trying to convey was that he keeps an open mind on whether the player will redshirt or not as they won't know how the player stacks up until they get to campus. Then at that point they can make a recommendation to the player based on how they do and what the team needs. The player ultimately makes the decision with input from the coaches. I do think that they sign players that they expect will end up redshirting. It's splitting hairs somewhat. Bo's not the best word-smith.

Best coaches show by far was the John Melton show.

Do you like "he said/she said" reports from camp???
flatwaterfan replied to Axl_sued_me's topic in Husker Football
I could see them starting in 2 back and then 1 motioning out. -

Appreciate the report! I can't wait until practice starts and yet I hate preseason camp as there is always somebody who gets hurt. -
Wow. Interesting turn of events.

If Cox hasn't reached a deal by Aug 5th, I'm going with Direct TV choice xtra.

I believe I read somewhere that there is a technique that can be practiced to not trigger the timer prematurely/get an appropriate start out of the blocks. I also think the way they trigger the timers have changed through the years so that needs to be taken in consideration. Maybe someone can verify or clear this up. Regardless fast is fast no matter how you measure it.

Good point about the OL. They got snubbed.

Here's a list of all the player of the year award winners. I would think a top 20 from this list works. Surprised that 2 time winner Grant Wistrom didn't make their list as there has never been a repeat Defensive player of the year other than GRANT. I also would say I don't agree with the player of the year list either as I don't see how Mike Brown, Bishop and others can't be on it. I mean really, would you rather have Ahman Green or Troy Davis??? 1996: Troy Davis, RB, Iowa State 1997: Ricky Williams, RB, Texas 1998: Ricky Williams, RB, Texas 1999: Major Applewhite, QB, Texas and Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska 2000: Josh Heupel, QB, Oklahoma 2001: Eric Crouch, QB, Nebraska 2002: Chris Brown, RB, Colorado 2003: Jason White, QB, Oklahoma 2004: Jason White, QB, Oklahoma 2005: Vince Young, QB, Texas 2006: Zac Taylor, QB, Nebraska 2007: Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri 2008: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma 2009: Colt McCoy, QB, Texas 2010: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State [edit]Defensive Player of the Year 1996: Grant Wistrom, DE, Nebraska 1997: Grant Wistrom, DE, Nebraska 1998: Dat Nguyen, LB, Texas A&M 1999: Mark Simoneau, LB, Kansas State 2000: Casey Hampton, DL, Texas 2001: Roy Williams, DB, Oklahoma 2002: Terence Newman, DB, Kansas State 2003: Teddy Lehman, LB, Oklahoma 2004: Derrick Johnson, LB, Texas 2005: Nick Reid, LB, Kansas 2006: Rufus Alexander, LB, Oklahoma and Aaron Ross, DB, Texas 2007: Jordon Dizon, LB, Colorado and Curtis Lofton LB Oklahoma 2008: Brian Orakpo, DL, Texas 2009: Ndamukong Suh, DL, Nebraska 2010: Prince Amukamara, DB, Nebraska

Great article. Lots of tidbits. http://www.omaha.com/article/20110723/BIGRED/707239836/-1#mckewon-professors-careful-with-nu-s-inner-workings I'm guilty of trying to put a label on the offense, we've been through this before but I can't help it. Sounds to me like they want to go with the mutt offense. I like the the description of a motion offense on the football field, which is more specific than the semi-old saying about basketball on grass ...... I will go with the grotion offense. (GRassmOTION) Like the explanation of why the WCO works in the NFL. Also like the point about Burkhead being able to run inside. I think he showed a little of that in the spring. Not sure if I believe that TMART will run less. We shall see. I think it depends upon what the D gives us. Would like to see them publish more of the husker power records, Martinez has 3 records underscoring why he has great burst. So much good stuff in the article that we could start a plethora of threads on it that would carry us to FALL CAMP!.

That's one of the things I like to do after a recruiting class.... build a depth chart with the last 2 recruiting classes and identify the positions that are thin. Obviously I don't have enough to do.

That is my thinking. A 5 man front would be good against Wisconsin. It wouldn't be our base defense for the season but I can see it being employed against a few teams and in the red zone. It would be another package like the nickel. I also agree with your comment about the O holding the ball. Unfortunately, I tend to think this offense will end up being a quick strike offense vs a grinding offense. Guess we will have to wait to find out.
