Bleedin_Red
Im glad we won, but we got very lucky. Perry shouldn't have thrown up a one legged prayer. He is a senior and has to realize in that situation you need a better shot. Quote Link to comment

gamecocks
Our defense was awesome in that game. A box and 1 on Jackson really took Tech out of their offense. They had some guys step up and hit some big threes for them, but they never really had much of an offense idenitity last night. Our guys played great and got a huge road win with Maric struggling inside. Quote Link to comment
Eric the Red
Richardson's buzzer-beater nips Texas Tech by jeff walker | AVALANCHE-JOURNAL Convert to printable formatSend story to a friendLetters to the Sports EditorDiscuss this storyextra action item 1 - publication data - Posted: Wednesday, February 7, 2007 Updated: Wednesday, February 7, 2007 2:54 a.m. 300 Ad Logo 300 Ad Logo Some may think it's better to be lucky than good, or so the cliché goes. Texas Tech was neither on Tuesday. Charles Richardson Jr. hit a 3-point goal at the buzzer to give Nebraska a 61-59 victory over the Red Raiders, who have lost four games in a row. "Guys, I mean, the last play was just luck," Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler said. "But we stuck in there to have a chance and that's not luck. That's just a team playing hard." After squandering a 13-point halftime lead, Tech held a 59-58 advantage when Martin Zeno hit a pair of free throws with 1:11 remaining. Both teams missed field goals, setting up the Cornhuskers for the final shot with 18 seconds to play. Tech's Alan Voskuil is fouled on a reverse by Nebraska's Chris Balham, 32, during Tuesday night's game. Jodi Miller Lubbock / Avalanche-Journal Sadler, a former Tech assistant coach under James Dickey, designed a play to free Marcus Perry, who missed a 3-pointer from the left wing. The rebound was tipped to the opposite side of the court, and Tech guard Charlie Burgess saved the ball but his pass went directly to Richardson. Richardson released the ball just before the buzzer sounded and after the made basket, the senior was swarmed by his teammates to the shock of 6,317 at United Spirit Arena. A year ago, Burgess would have been able to call time out while in the air, and it appeared that his initial reaction was to attempt to do that. This year, though, the NCAA instituted a new rule preventing a player from calling time out while falling out of bounds in the air. "I like (the new rule) tonight," Sadler said. The Cornhuskers stifled Tech leading scorer Jay Jackson with a box-and-one zone defense that limited Jackson to just five points on 2-of-7 shooting. Jackson was held to single digits for the first time since Nov. 23, 2005, when he scored nine in an 83-74 victory over Furman. "They did a really, really good job on Jackson," Tech head coach Bob Knight said. "We tried a lot of things to get Jackson open and that's about as good as I've ever seen a kid stick with playing defense." Nebraska freshman Jay-R Strowbridge drew the assignment of shadowing Jackson, and the Red Raiders didn't do a good job moving around to get open shots. At one point in the second half, three Tech players were standing at the top of the 3-point arc with little movement underneath. The Red Raiders' problems, though, began early as Tech didn't score until the 12:28 mark of an ugly first half. Prior to Alan Voskuil's 3-pointer, Tech missed its first eight field goals and committed four turnovers. Nebraska, though, wasn't much better as the Cornhuskers were 3 for 9 during Tech's drought. The Huskers had three turnovers and two missed free throws and despite Tech's drought, only led 5-3 after Voskuil's 3-pointer. Tech led 29-16 at halftime, the fewest amount of points the Red Raiders have allowed in a half this season. The Huskers managed to trim the deficit to four, but Tech pushed the lead to 51-40 on a jumper by Burgess with 6:49 remaining in regulation. The Red Raiders, though, didn't score for the next three minutes and only managed six points in the game's final three minutes. "Coach Sadler said it at the half, he said this game was going to come down to a one-possession game and a last-second shot," Perry said. "We just kept competing. We believed and we executed and it came down to a last-minute shot, and Chuckie put a dagger into their heart." The dagger could go as deep as Tech's NCAA Tournament chances as the Red Raiders play three of their next four games on the road. The Red Raiders' four-game losing streak ties the longest under Knight, which was set last season when Tech lost the final four games of the regular season.
