txhuskermedic
I wish we had computers in the early years of TO's tenure. The boards would have been wild with hate. Quote Link to comment
REDSTEEL
I wish we had computers in the early years of TO's tenure. The boards would have been wild with hate. Then the smart people would have pointed out how many high ranked teams T.O. beat, how he has'nt had less then 9 wins each year and how he has been competitve in every game. All would be an good excuse to keep him. He also won a few bowl games in the 70's Can you really use those excuses with Callahan? Quote Link to comment

Pedro Guerrero
My point is there were many calling for TO's head back then. even death threats. I think they missed it. Also to who-ever said the "smart" fans would have changed people's minds. I call BS on that statement. People back then didn't care about the rest of the games they cared what happened against OU. Beat everyone else and lose to OU = Bad Year. The wolves were around then and are now and will always be. It will happen to the next coach as well. www.fire(insertnamehere).com will be up and running by year 2. It will be purchased the week if not the day after a new coach is hired. Mark my words on that one. Quote Link to comment

Vizsla1
It would have been interesting to say at least to see a strength of schedule back then. I wonder how we would have done with current BCS standings etc... Big 8 was more like the Big 2. However; those Big 2 took a large part in shaping the national title quite often. Pedro Guerrero
I thought it was funny that T.O. just said that he was told if he wouldn't have won the Bowl game is 4th year he was going to be fired. So I guess those "smart people" as mentioned earlier really didn't have any control of how things went down. Quote Link to comment
